I bought this motherboard, all the connectivity is just amazing and the other features like fan connectors 4xm2 and 6x sata (7'th sata one won't work if you fill up the last m.2 slot) but other than. Thanks to this I have 2nvme ssds, 2 sata ssd and 2 archive hdd drive. I have 128gb memory, which unfortunately runs only at 4800mhz, but if I use 2x32 sticks the system is rock sollid at XMP/600. In the end very happy with the board.
Glad to read this... will be doing a build very shortly with this same motherboard and a 13600k... Felt I did a thorough look through at reviews and what not but still figured I'd give this video a look (and comments) to really make sure I see how others feel about it. Great comment mate, gave plenty of insight 👍
Great video. Although I'm still not sure which motherboard to get. Between this motherboard and the Aorus z790 Elite x Wifi 7 (DDR5), which one would you pick for an intel i9 13900k? These are the other components of the pc: - corsair 1000w gold plus - rtx 3090 fe - Corsair Vengeance 64 gb RAM 6400 mhz CL32 (2 x 32gb) - Samsung 990 2tb M2 I'm using the pc mainly for video editing (premiere pro and other adobe software). Thanks!
Hey, great to see such big RUclipsrs stopping by my channel! The truth is both are great and will serve the build just fine, and there will be no real difference to stuff like video editing. It comes down to your personal needs for things such as rear IO or internal storage options, etc.
@@avrona thanks for your reply! Much appreciated! Do you think it's worth it to spend more money (60-100€) on an Asus Rog Strix Z790-F gaming wifi or Asus Strix Z790-A Gaming Wifi II?
@@FutureVeganAgain, only really depends on what you personally need from a motherboard. Both the Z790-F and Z790-A from ASUS have tons of additional rear IO, plus internal expansion options and better CPU power delivery. If you will make use of those features, then sure go for it!
I am buying this mobo SPECIFICALLY for its LACK of RGB and blacked out features. My case is the Fractal Design North, and RGB belongs in there like a cat does at a dog show. It doesn’t.
building a machine as we speak based around this MOBO and have been using YT Univ as needed so this popped up win my feed. spent a bit of time deciding on the MOBO and it's nice to see I seem to have made a decent choice.
I'm sitting on the couch, looking at my new tomahawk, and waiting for the processor and Ram to arrive. I hope there will be no disappointment from this mommy.
I'd have a question about this: I read that the power consumption can be 381W. I have a i5-14600K CPU that I'm going to use with this and I read it can use 181W. By simple math that's a total of 562W, but is that 562 actually anywhere close to correct? I mean, mostly, that if the motherboard consumes 381, then is _any_ of that part of the CPU consumption?
Regular Motherboard 25 to 40 W High End Motherboard 45 to 80 W Factors that affect motherboard power consumption: number of power phases, type of voltage regulator, integrated chipsets and modules (e.g. on-board sound, on-board Wi-Fi, add-on USB connectors, add-on SATA connectors etc.) and BIOS power saving features. The Intel Core i5-14600K peaks at a power draw of 177W under load in Cinebench R23's multi-core test, which pushes this CPU right up next to its TDP of 181W Let's say 177W (for the CPU) + 70W (for the motherboard) = 247W , so you have an ample margin concerning the consumption.
Okay. Here's a question. I just got through a build with this motherboard and installed it into a Meshify 2 case, along with a Asus Tuf 4090 graphics card. Thankfully the build went well and everything works. The problem is that the card covers the butterfly unlocks in the case that I wanted to remove the graphics card and the SSD heatshields block the butterfly clips as well. So how exactly will I ever be able to remove the card if need be without tearing up the card or the motherboard?
i upgrading my 2017 rig to try and last another almost 7 years. my current specs are an MSI Z270-A pro, GTX 1060 6gb, i5-7500 3.4GHz. i'm hoping my new concoction will out last this one, i want to get this MSI MAG Z790, and pair it with an RTX 3060, and i5-13600k. obviously i'm getting new fans, RAM, and PSU too, but my case is a big ol' corsair obsidian boy, so i know everything will fit within it.
Currently on my 6th generation i5 and still not 100% convinced for a change (not a gamer, but for example mobile phone is already on the same level in benchmark). This one or MSI PRO Z790-A MAX WIFI performance wise with 14700k? One concern really is it worth waiting until meteor integrated gpu?
Has anyone of you experienced slow DDR5 training on this board ? When I have XMP enabled it takes around 70 seconds before I'll see MSI BIOS logo. When XMP is disabled it takes 15 seconds. I have 64GB (2x32GB) 5600Mhz RAM.
@averona this board is amazing! I ordered mine today! did you have any problems with the cable internet connection on this motherboard? I read in some places that there was a problem with the Intel network in it, I don't know if this has already been fixed. I was worried
I really like your videos for feature discussion. About the USB ports, it'd be really good to know which of those are on a separate header. If all 4 of the gen2.1 blue ones are on the same header and you plug in your mouse, you now have 4 usb 2.0 sockets. The others will downgrade to the slowest device (so I've read). Ditto for the red ones. If all 4 are on the same header they will drop down to the slowest device. ALSO - it'd be good to know what probs people might run into on installs. For example, with MSI z790s, there are a lot of complaints about not being able to automatically download the ethernet drivers. And on Some other boards with PCI 5.0 m.2 slots, if you actually use them, it will cut your graphics card slot from 16x to 8x. So talking about that sort of issue would be super useful. Even if it's just stuff you've researched rather than experienced. Another common glitch on Gigabyte others are with Intel 2..5gb ethernet. They have (or had) major driver issues causing glitchy connections. Something about an energy saving feature. I don't know if it affects mobo 10GB ports. Thanks for such a useful channel! OH - also on this MSI Tomahawk... I think the video output supports HDMI 2.1. Most competitors only support 2.0. That's good if you're doing cloud gaming and don't need a 4090 or something. Or if you're doing audio work mostly. Etc.
I just care it has a bunch of usb ports, but I've been reading on amazon reviews they've been having issues with build quality..sigh..maybe I'll pick this up last to complete my build that is in very preliminary stages.
It's probably the fact that the Amazon drivers don't look after the boxes and they aren't given any additional protection. I just got a replacement and the box is fucking damaged. Fingers crossed the board works.
I have the DDR4 one, for DDR4 overclocking because its already end of gen, it can do 5400 G2 and 4400 G1 with my new 14900KF and micron b rev ram. My previous 13600KF did 4300CL14 but degraded hence the new chip, and I lucked out on a 4400CL15 G1 IMC. 4 Slot DDR5 boards tend to max out at 7200, but if you can get that on a 2x24 m die kit its still very good. But I have 42ns latency, though Samsung B die can do like 36ns, and Hynix M die I've seen at 44ns with double the bandwidth.
Great board except for the Intel ax211 wireless network card! It disconnects constantly. I am going to replace it with a Realtek card. Intel does everything pretty well except wireless network cards!
Actually you are incorrect with the NVME M.2 slots, the only M.2 slot that runs off of the CPU Bus is Slot 1 ( gen 4 ) all the others run off of the chipset Bus, which makes them PCIe gen3. Not your fault, it's simply manufacturer typo
