      The way I understand it God just wants to know that we would be prepared to sacrifice our son.
      This shows that we put nothing in our lives above God, nothing at all.
      Although God sacrificed His own Son to save us, He would NEVER allow us to go through with it.
      Just as with Abraham and Isaac.
      It is by living this Way that God protects you and your children.

(As cool as an actual temple would be) it would probably lead to idolization of the temple mount. Just like if we had the original Pauline Epistles, there would probably be people in the world that would worship them (like how Catholics consider the communion elements to be actual flesh and blood of Christ-that is idolatry)

    I've heard many times from preachers that Isaac symbolized Christ but Isaac was not sacrificed. It makes more sense that Isaac was a type of the saved Christian, because he was just about to receive death but God intervened and provided Himself a sacrifice. The ram with his head in thorns would symbolize Christ. (Crown of thorns)

      Open your eyes to the bigger picture. In ancient Roman empire it was okay to offer human sacrifices. It would start with animal sacrifices, if the gods (Or God) is/aren't pleased, you sacrifice a virgin and the ultimate sacrifice was a son. How can the almighty God - This paragon of wisdom conform to this barbaric, hideous acts of human sacrifices and sacrifice his only begotten son???.

    My friend and I do bible discussions via txt messaging. One recent morning, on Gen 22, we saw the following:
    Abraham (the father)
    sacrifices Isaac / the lamb (the son)
    at the Mount in Moriah (Calvary/Praetorian),
    Isaac moves to Beer Lahai Roi (heaven, note Isaac is not mentioned until much later),
    Abraham's wife Sarah dies (Jerusalem/Israel?),
    then Abraham's unnamed servant (the Holy Spirit)
    prepares Rebekah as bride (the church)
    and presents her to Isaac (the son)
    and they go back to Sarah's tent (the new Jerusalem/Israel?) to live.
    I am sure there's a whole lot more; I am an amateur at this and don't speak the Hebrew. But when I saw all this all I could think of was: what do I do with all that?

    The faith of Abraham is the kind of faith that saves. Remember Abraham believed the promise of God. He knew that Isaac and Isaac's children were part of that promise. He knew that even if he killed Isaac that Isaac would be raised. He had that much faith.He even knew that God would supply the sacrifice. He had that much faith.

      I don't think he operated on faith, but from fear "And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God." (Genesis 22 verse 12). Although I would hope that Abraham, like you said before about him having faith that his son would be brought back, had that in mind when sacrificing him.

    Now I know the text is saying that God will provide a sacrifice, but the way the King James is translated I feel like it conveys the hidden message here even better. The King James says, God will provide "himself" a sacrifice. Again I know this is just the wording that was used at the time of the translation, but isn't it beautiful how the text can also be read to say that God will provide "himself" as the sacrifice. I just find it interesting and beautiful.

Weed, porn, and masterbarion. He did come to me when I had the opportunity to sin again and actively said enough is enough and I submitted to him that day. He then showed me the light. If a god tell you that he die and then come back to life by his own power then he really didn't die. There needs to be an external force in order to bring him back.

    I agree with everything Dr. Turek said up until he said we have to follow Jesus for the rest of our lives in order to be saved. That is works and no flesh shall be saved by the works of the law. We SHOULD follow christ for the rest of our lives, but if you trust in yourself following him and doing good things for him to save you, then you are not saved because your trusting in your works and your reliance is not in your faith of Christ's sacrifice, but in yourself and how well you follow him. He said "if we give ourselves to him we will live forever" can you please name ONE verse in scripture that says you are saved by giving your life to Christ? There isn't one, it's faith every time in the NT that saves you. For ye are saved by grace through faith.

    And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood. And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
    Genesis 22:9&10
    By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
    Hebrew 11:17
    For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
    John 3:16
    And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
    Matthew 27:46
    And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I. And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.
    Genesis 22:11&12
    And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
    Matthew 26:39-44
    In places like my homeland where the illiteracy rate is very high, it is often said that being illiterate doesn’t make you dumb. However, the degree to which senseless animosity demonstrably destroys us, it becomes quite clear that such approach of illiteracy doesn’t hold true. And since it seems to always have had ripple effects on societies all throughout our existence, we must assume that such a bogus idea is only propagated by demagogues to advance their own interests, when the proof of the contrary is quite palpable for anyone to see. That said, being deprived of your ability to think, and to ask questions before accepting anything to be worthy of our beliefs, simply lays the foundation for many obstacles that you probably would never see as wrong. And that precisely what Hebrew 11:17 entails in its interpretation of Genesis 22:10&11.
    I bet if anyone were to do that today in the name of God, everybody else in the other side of the religious spectrum, wouldn’t hesitate one second to portray him or her as flat out ignorant. However, because it is said that God was the one to have explicitly asked Abraham to do so, it becomes an act of faith on the part of Abraham to God, even if that were to have been carried out in its entirety, which would mean that Abraham killed his very own son as requested by God . Apart from the demand that was believed to have been from God, is there any chance at all that Abraham would have done what he was about to do to his very own son? I would assume not. In this case, it doesn’t seem to be a bad idea to be cautious as far as religion is concerned. Now, it would be crazy to simply assume that God would have asked a father to put his very own son under the sword in any circumstances, and whoever that was, who posed as God and demanded Abraham to commit that horrendous crime, never should have been granted this much liberty to even think of so doing, let alone to have felt privileged enough to have gone as far as to wait to the very last minute, when Abraham pulled out his sword and was about to trounce Isaac, and yelled loudly to stop him. That in and of itself is mind-boggling, and deserves our scrutiny. Nonetheless, being blindfolded by our unconventional obedience to anything said to be coming from God, we wind up being victimized by own beliefs. Don’t put aside the possibility that the very one that we’re now worshipping, who ambitiously seeks to establish himself as God because of his strong thirst for glory, was the culprit behind the scene. If true, one can assume that the theatrical scene that occurred on the cross by that biblical figure , is nothing short of a divine payback to what he was on the verge of doing to Abraham. In fact, but for his well-deserved tragedy leading up to his demise, never would we have known him as a liar, based on various passages of the Bible where he portrays himself as God. If he were, he certainly wouldn’t have to pray in three instances to God to spare him right when he was about to be arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane, and ultimately at the cross, and at the very last second when he cried to God to come to his rescue before his passing. However, if there was a lesson to be learned from this, the messiah simply didn’t seem to get it, as well as the remaining angels over whom he, Jesus, holds dominion after the ouster of Satan , and allies, whom he got an encounter with , during the beginning of his ministry on earth. Now, if you want to ponder over a vast arrays of contradictory remarks in the Bible, you can sense that some thing isn’t right, since all of them cannot be true, that lead us to conclude that God plays way too much with his angels (devils) to our detriment . Therefore, we shouldn’t let our guard down, fearing we might as well be fooled by those moronic characters named angels (devils).

Do parents face the situation where they will lose their child (i.e. the child's love or affection or that child sunny disposition) if the do the right thing i.e what God asks them to do. Yes. When ever their must correct the child and the reason can't be explained right away. How to believe/trust?. How to believe what books/people say or write? Firstly, we have to find which religion is truth/true/right. How? We must have same definition or meaning of the truth/true/right. We must use same method to determine the truth/true/right. Believe => claim = test/check = see. This is normally practice by everybody when we buy/accept something/good which is expensive from other people(we see or we do not see).
    Example: We buy a black pen in the shop was produced/manufactured by Marker(do not see) cost around 10K USD. Producer/Manufacturer(do not see) claim, It is black pen. Outside (can see), the apparent is black in colour. Inside(ink, can not see), we not sure, it is black or blue or other colour. So, we have to test/check it. Take white paper and write to it to confirm it. It is black. When I see, it is black, I believe/trust it. So, I buy/accept it without any doubt. If you do not want to test/check, it is up to you. It is your money. It is your life. Our life is only one chance given by god(can not see). When we die, we see the truth, we can not go back in this world(can see). It is too late. I obey what Allah say in Al Quran surah Al asr (The Time) 103(30): recommend one another to the truth. If we can see god and his power, there is only one religion. We have to obey the command/law/rule from that god only. For sure this world is peacefully.
    Our faith is very expensive.Please open Al Quran Surah Al Hujurat 49: 6. O who believe! If a Fasiq (liar-evil person) comes to you with and news, verify it, lest you should harm people in ignorance, and afterwards you become regretful for what you have done. Please open Bible John 4:1. Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test to see whether they are from God, for false prophets have gone out into the world. We test and verify the claim/message words of god from Bible (can see), Torah (can see), Al Quran(can see), and other religion books(can see). We must get/see same result(claim=test/check=see) or not. God(can not see) create man(can see). Man worship god. Question: How is god create man? What Method? God create man from ground dust(Torah,Bible, Quran) or man rib(Torah, Bible,Quran) or woman only(Bible,Quran) or Nutfah(mix drop of male (sperm) and female sexual(female egg cell/ova) discharge)-Quran, 1440 years ago, they did not see it, but now, we can see it by using electron microscopy. Or other religion books or other book?. We do testing/experimenting/checking to verify it, by using these method to create man. Everybody can test/experiment/check, verify and see it. Which method can create/produce man?.Answer: The claim/message/words of god in Al Quran is truth/true/right.
    Conclusion: Certainly, we can create man by this method (claim by Al Quran). Al Quran is truth/true/right. Allah create man. Man belong to Allah. Man have to obey Allah rule/law. Prophet Muhammad s.a.w was the last prophet sent by Allah to us. This religion is truth/true/right. So, we have to believe/trust it . Please, read Al Quran and think. You get the answer. Sorry, my English is not very good.

    Frank - I submit Abraham did not "..grab Issac and throw him onto the sacrificial alter." By the time this event occurred, Isaac would have been a grown man, late 20’s, early 30s. Abraham and very old man. Hence, it’s reasonable to assume two things:
    - Abraham raised Isaac with the knowledge and fear of Jehovah
    - Abraham told Isaac, at some point in the journey, the purpose of this trek. That Jehovah has instructed me to sacrifice you.
    Issac, fully trusting in the Lord, voluntarily laid himself on the alter; as did Lord Jesus.
    Grace & Peace.

      I can see the story of Abraham and Isaac being based surrounding pagan cultures, yet progressive in its day. Instead of the Jews sacrificing humans, they decided to sacrifice animals, which they attributed it to the commands of Yahweh. This story was written thousands of years after the event supposedly took place - it’s a story about the character of their Yahweh, not necessarily the retelling of actual events.

    Turek never handled the cruelty of the story of Genesis 22. The only way that I can see this being avoided is if the story is and was intended to be seen as an allegorical statement by the writers. It isn't that Abraham would sacrifice his sun for God. It is that Abraham trusted God to make it come out OK even if he didn't understand. If you take the story as a literal event, then the outcome was still cruelty toward Abraham's child.

    • @darkiddd
      @darkiddd 9 лет назад

      Of course it was that, God tested Abraham's faith, he demanded from him something that was against all his preconceptions, Abraham couldn't understand but if he really trusted God and trusted he was all good then he had to obey because he had to believe everything was going to end well. Abraham proved his faith and God blessed him with his covenant. Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son for his love to God so God would sacrifice his son for Abraham's people and all the nation's of the Earth to save them.

      Bruce Campbell Does the parent ever face this dilemma while raising their children. Do parents face the situation where they will lose their child (i.e. the child's love or affection or that child sunny disposition) if the do the right thing i.e what God asks them to do. Yes. When ever their must correct the child and the reason can't be explained right away. This parable speaks to these situations and affirm that God will intervene especially when they feel they will certainly lose your child. This story is archetypal like many of the other stories in Genesis and require the reader to look for messages between the lines.

    • @phillybruce
      @phillybruce 9 лет назад

      Peter Bernard I agree that the stories of the bible have great literary value. My objection is the idea that the story is a historical account of a real event. As a parable, it is a wonderful story.

    • @PeterBernardMDS1
      @PeterBernardMDS1 9 лет назад

      Bruce Campbell This account is possible because of faith in God and his belief in God's innate goodness. When faced with what seems to be a difficult request it better to defer to God's. If Abraham became more attached to the gifts rather than the giver the primary promise to make him father of nations would not have been fulfilled. Also, this is way before the exposition of the ten commandments. Perhaps Abraham was following a corrupt practice of the day which seemed normal (i.e. commanded by God) in another culture. Hope this helps.

    • @phillybruce
      @phillybruce 9 лет назад

      Im a little confused. You called the story a parable but now you seem to be arguing that it is a literal account. In literature, a parable is a short work of fiction that is intended to carry a message of morality. It is often used to refer to the stories that Jesus told in the new testament. Do you think that the story of Abraham is literal or fictitious?

    Is it Just me or does anybody else find Frank Turek evasive in his answering tactics??. In ancient Roman empire it was okay to offer human sacrifices. It would start with animal sacrifices, if the gods (Or God) aren't/isn't pleased, you sacrifice a virgin and the ultimate sacrifice was a son. How can the almighty God - This paragon of wisdom conform to this barbaric, hideous acts of human sacrifices and sacrifice his only begotten son???. If he so loved us why not simply forgive the poor humans for they know not what they are doing???.
    You put humans on the same planet with your fiercest rival, (Lucifer), Who's been there since the beginning of time, tempted Adam and Eve. Tempted Jesus = God = Holy trinity. Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love-Isaac-and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”
    Genesis 22:2 NIV
    What happened to Ishmael? Firstly, How can Isaac be the "only" son when Ishmael was older. Secondly, you can't even say that God denied Ishmael because your bible says that....
    And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation.
    Genesis 17:20 NIV
    You can even use the prior verse (i.e. Gen 17:19) because the Hebrew says maintain NOT establish.
    Please preach responsibly and with honesty!

    • @scouthart3062
      @scouthart3062 Год назад

      The Hebrew word used for “only” is yachiyd, which means “unique” or “only begotten” (special). So the Hebrew clarifies that Isaac is indeed the special, unique, only begotten son of Abraham. Isaac was the son of promise. So this answers the alleged contradiction.
      Sometimes we miss the obvious answer as well. In the previous chapter (Genesis 21), Ishmael was sent away. So in chapter 22, Isaac was Abraham’s only son, for his other had gone away, presumably never to return under Abraham’s household. So this is another plausible solution to the alleged contradiction.
      God bless

How is that any better? Christianity glorifies the sacrifice of a man as if it were effective and moral. • @UNBE4R4BLE
      @UNBE4R4BLE 9 лет назад +3

      The creator does not want child sacrifice...it never happened, it was a test of faith...to find out the mettle of Abraham, but most Christians know this.
      Jesus is the Son of God, but also part of the trinity of God, God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit...the fact is he humbled himself to show us how, but more importantly the ultimate sacrifice of himself for us, for our sins and the fulfilment of old law where animals were sacrificed but now not needed...hence fulfilment.
      Jesus was sacrificed, he bore the sins of mankind on himself, he cried blood at the cup he had to drink from, he was in every sense human in his suffering and went through a real physical death.
