This is why I love FC so much. They truly appreciate cinema and the craft that goes behind making a film. Also, the popular RUclips channel CineFix made a video where they discussed the 10 most revolutionary cinematographers which includes the likes of Roger Deakins, Sven Nykvist & Vittorio Stottaro and there they made a special mention for Santosh Sivan. I was so happy to see that his talent was recognized internationally even to some extent ❤😊
@@Akshaykhandelwal100 lol , in everything u see nepotism... Give some credit to casting directors , they have done magic in films like Taare Zameen Par etc
Instead of turning comment section into missing persons list, let us celebrate the DPs who are there. You guys don't expect FC to call fifty people for one episode, do you?
Could you be more prejudiced ? I will call out Film Companion when they act as PR agencies for starlets and a gew of these big production houses. At the same time I will still respect somebody like Santhosh Sivan giving an interview here, I am not going to type something irrelevant to poke fun on somebody else. That is the job of you people. You all think that you are intellectually superior to us but the truth is you all are so deluded and attracted to these people that you can't accept any criticism thrown towards them.
Pankaj kumar has the aesthetics and knows how to shoot an Indian film .. this man can capture scenes like no other... I hope we get to see more films shot by him
@@rafiqueahmed9128 my friend, santhosh sivan is the only indian who got membership in american society of cinematographers. And he got 12 national awards. Absolutely he is a veteran and legendary cinimatographer. So please don't compare binod pradhan to santhosh sivan.
Thank you Film Companion You have done lyricists adda 2 weeks ago & Now you are doing Cinematographers adda. Thanks for being a true film journalism channel..👍❤️😘
I have to say I am relieved, sometimes I was so convinced that the only way I can be a director or an artist is if I get a certificate saying that I am qualified in that specific skill set etc. This is very helpful, love it.
Finally.. you guys have given respect to the technicians.. 🙏 Good to see this, hope to see Editors discussions as well, Preferably Sreekar prasad, Aarti bajaj, shweta Venkat, Garry B.H 😊
Anupama and team thank you for such enriching discussions! We get to see interview on this channel that we don’t get to see elsewhere. So much toxic news and gossip going on...this is one of the few channels that is focused on the art and craft of making a film! Thank you!
Anupama and team has educated me that a film is not just actors acting or if the script is good or not. Watching all these discussions with DOP’s, writers, producers, lyricists and music directors have widened my horizon of how to watch films. Going forward I am no longer going to label a film as a hit or not based on the usual criterion. Thank you Film Companion for enlightening the audience.
They are the pseudo directors. What a lovely episode. I had requested previously for a round table with the cinematographers, thank you so much for that. Hearing them all together in a platform was such a joy.
Yes, one thing I truly agree that a cinematographer's work is the proof people who understand cinema actually will automatically get about the cinmatographer about his work and talent and that is the big screen for the cinematographers.
very much appreciate this video. thanks for giving a platform for the people literally behind the camera. please do more of these for other technicians as well
Thank you so much, thoroughly enjoyed this conversation - it made me think of the films I love in such a different light. Please do more round tables on film-making departments other than just actors and directors - it truly expands our view as audiences!
It's one of the best ADDA ever. Thank you Anupama Mam. I wish the legend Mr.Ashoke Mehta was there too but 😔. Ravi Verma and Binod Pradhan in the next ADDA mam please. Mam how difficult shoting action movies are should have been asked, DOP of URI, Baby were there.
Can we have one more session with all of them to understand their process. I also request to film director to promote the cinematographer whenever any film releases to understand the process.
Awesome, Ms. Chopra. Well done for putting together a podcast with such fine technicians. Your shows with writers was also awesome. This is great content and they are such articulate folks. Looking forward to more such shows.
Mostly people in India are curious about Bollywood gossip. So many of the trade analysts and RJs have suddenly become film critiques without any academic inclination towards the art. Despite mass producing films we still do not have a magazine like American Cinematographer.
hey, can you please ask panel to plug their upcoming project or something of their personal work so that if I like them or their opinion i can look forward to their upcoming work.
Any for Music Directors Like Ajay Atul, Rahman, Vishal Shekar, SEL, Amit Trivedi, Salim Sulaiman, Neha Khanwilkar, or reginlonal music directors just to get the esscense how they work etc...
it was a very diplomatic interview. I liked the interview with lyricists because it opened our eyes and bring something new to the table. I was hoping the same from this interview. I was hoping to learn something new from their experiences. I waited until the last question, but nothing came out. Very typical so-called "interview" FYI, public is willing to explore more, but do you have something new to give???
sorry for this one, however, I really appreciate FIlm Companion wholistically! this is just a feedback in support and not to take away your endeavours! so, Generic discussion is no fun especially when one is talking about the BACKBONE of film making, especially oscar notes don't work in most ways here... it's like talking about hamburgers in the missal-pao world and so on! the moderator should talk more about cinematography to its subject and beyond I feel, let's say how a cinematographer approaches subject/a film? what aspects are key to collabs? how does the cinematographer deal with pressures of canning shots and aesthetics - more importantly, the time? end of the day the cost of the film is equal to the time it takes to be shot- minus the actors! what about post-production? without a strong post any cinematography is not as effective, especially in these CGI days!, what about how a cinematographer decodes a script in collab? how does styles come in play when working with different directors? what prevails there? every cinematographer has their own styles if you notice...and so on and so forth... this was very nursery level conversation, should get deeper and thus more engaging! let's say how about getting a DP to do moderate such chats? it's natural as Anupama mam is a film critic, so one may not be as deep into all departments...I respect that! film making is an endless adventurous sea! well show business is different totally though! but I suggest we can be more qualitative here as FC !:) as so many efforts you put to put things together anyways! cheers and thanks for at least starting these "IMPORTANT" sharing and discussions!
Just a suggestion if the intro can be longer by showing the individual faces and their work first, had to pause every second to look for their movies underneath.

Can we have a discussion with the casting directors as to how and what they do to cast one for a character.
