I have become a firm proponent of the concept of siesta. Work in the morning when it's cooler. Stop between 12:00 and 1:00, lunch, a nap, indoor chores, dinner, back outside for about 1 1/2 hours til it gets dark. I live outside Wilmington, NC. Getting too hot is dangerous! My grandmother's house is about 105 years old. Her outbuildings were a garage, which was open on one side. There was a wash house (for doing the laundry), a smoke house for curing meat, a packhouse for storing crops, supplies and tools, plus a barn and a chicken house, and a brick barbecue grill. Her house is in northern Wayne County, NC. I thought a little info might be useful to you all.
@@1834RestorationHouse it absolutely was. She did her pruning when I visited. I still remember that Japanese quince shrub that was HUGE loaded with one inch thorns. Ouch! I loved staying with her.
YAY, you guys are back! You were missed. I loved watching your work cleaning up the bricks and was on the edge of my seat waiting for a snake. Glad it moved on.🐍
Congratulations on eraducating the brick pile, and I'm glad you didn't encounter more snakes! I would have been jumping at every leaf and sound too! I'm excited to learn more about the mystery structure and can't wait to hear what you plan to build near it! Good luck with class, Mike - you can do it!
Been waiting for this excavation for a long time. Hope you find out the full shape of the original structure. Just as much as I look forward to seeing how you plan to revision it. I’m sure it’ll look as charming as it is functional. It’s so cool to see traces of what used to be there.
Good to see you back. This was an exciting episode, so many possibilities of what could happen!! We have copperhead snakes here in Australia, so continue to be careful. 😎🇦🇺
You sure know how to keep suspense and excitement going while looking under bricks. I was so nervous that a copperhead was gonna come jump out and attacked you guys! So glad that the snakes are gone. You both did a good day’s work and I can’t wait to see what your next project is. So glad you’re back.
Great job getting the bricks cleaned up. I get trying to get the work done before the hotest time of the day. Real feel, where we live in El Salvador, today was like 104+. The humidity just takes it all out of you.
If there is one place I would love to visit, it's your place. I am in New Zealand, so no chance of that ever happening, but you tick all my boxes as far as work ethics and laid back progress goes. I love your channel. You take your time, do everything the way it should be done, and know your stuff. You make it feel as though I am right there beside you. The mystery structure is obviously a laundry room, but you could turn it into whatever you want, top of the suggestions would be a hot tub.
Haven't read all the comments, but in case no one mentioned it, you will know there are copperheads about if you smell cucumbers. They can be anywhere I guess, but they tend to hang out around water. A big thick stick comes in handy when you're out hiking or playing around in brick piles. Hopefully, your snake was just a chicken snake. They're harmless but still no fun to run into unexpectedly.
You will get use to the humidity. It takes a couple of years. We moved from living near Lake Ontario, where it almost never gets into the 90s to hot and humid tidewater Virginia.
I think I would have used implements with long handles to break up the pile and pull individual bricks and/or rocks a safe distance away from the pile before getting any part of me near them. Be cautious with both the snakes and the Southern heat. We've been having triple digit highs here in Central Texas. I pretty much go into hibernation and stay inside during this kind of weather. It's only July, and already summer needs to go away.
The scary music as you were removing the bricks. Some thing made me jump lol. Be safe because if there was one there is more than likely more. Exciting days ahead. Have a blessed weekend.
Getting all the hard work done early. I'm very happy the snake moved on. But i was on the edge of my seat.🤣 I know I would spend the rest of the day on that beautiful front porch with a tall ice tea. 😁❤️🤍💙
I can feel n know what your talking about when it’s hot n humid. Living in Florida the humidity just sucks the life right out of you. To think we’ve got two more months of this. And August n September are actually the hottest months for us. Bring on October! It’s unbelievable just how many bricks you’ve taken out of there n still more work to do. It would be nice if you knew someone who has a stump grinder. That would help considerably getting those tree stumps out. From what I understand it’s not a cheap job so that’s why I said if you knew someone. Of course Mike you probably have it all planned out😆. It’s time to take a break n get some sweet or whatever you prefer. Great to see ya back. You’ve been missed a lot. ♥️😊👍👍🌟🌟
Did we miss it? Did you ever share what the ruins are or what it was used for? We can hardly wait to know what your research has turned up about this. Glad you didn't run into any more snakes.
I still have a few years of college to get through. We finished one of the easels and are about to build the second one. We won't bore everyone with another easel video.
youtube might have tutor videos for math, if you still need that Were the rocks possibly part of original structure's foundation? they look like they coulda been Did property have a big beautiful carriage house? So, is the mystery snake building, an outdoor kitchen? might want to keep video marks to later build any boundary are to help identify (if you want to restore what was there) don't recall... did you say your old well is under your house? if not, it might be out in yard somewhere Gonna do a garage with the mini outdoor kitchen using that structure - to look like olden days?
Little bit JUMPY? Huh? You guys are a hoot. Also not smart! Come on guys if there was even a possibility that a copperhead might be under those bricks would you seriously be taking them out one by one with a short sleeve shirt on and little protection for your legs?! It’s be fun watching but please take it a little more seriously there are people you can call that are trained to remove snakes especially poisonous ones. We do not want either of you to get hurt.
We gave it a good lookover and found the only way a snake could get out would be one side of the pile. I stood on a different side so I would be out of the way. Safety first at the old Victorian!
I would have used the shovel to remove all of it. Yikes! Humidity just drains all your energy. Keep on trucking.
When the weather is like this, we can never make it past noon, and that's with an outdoor fan.

That’s what I thought too. Love Jeanie with the shovel there to cut the head off if need be.
@@jenniferhooks2454 That sounds like a great place to spend a week in the summertime!

Great job with lots of hard work by you two. Enjoy coming with you on these videos.
Thanks for watching!
Since snakes strike with lightning speed, so nervous watching the removal of the bricks and rocks! Glad to see the "hand" removed--lol
Knowing there was a snake around, I'd have used a rake or the shovel to move those bricks. Little late now I suppose to give that suggestion. 😂😂
We were ready to high-tail it out of there if necessary....

Very glad there was no snake!! Are you maybe going to build a large garage for all your "toys"???
Maybe!

Glad you enjoyed it, Toni!
The suspenseful music was great !!
I've never found a good reason to use that music until now. :-)
Glad to see y'all again
Hi Collette!
So glad you did NOT find any copperheads!
So are we!
Be very careful 😊
Yes, thank you!
Loved the spooky music! I was already on the edge of my seat, and that put me over the top! 😧😉🥰
Love that!

That sounds unbearable, but you probably have nice winters to make up for it?
@@1834RestorationHouse the part where we live a dip in the ocean is a great idea anytime. 😊
But sometimes you can get too much of a good thing. 😥

Thanks for watching in New Zealand! We always try to do a good job, even if it takes longer.
So glad you two are back. I still think the mystery structure is for washing clothes etc.
It's good to be back. Sometimes college homework takes up every last minute of my week.
Looking better...stay hydrated and cool off... Best time is fall or winter....for outdoor which I'm sure you know...indoor activities ❤
You got that right! 💖
Fantastic great to see you Mike and Jeanie.👍

We understand that! It's getting to the point where AC is mandatory.
Exactly what I was thinking get a hoe an pull the rocks and bricks to you let the snake bite the hoe????
I cant wait to find out more about the new build coming up.
This one's going to be good! :-)

We were so glad to see an empty space! Have you ever tasted Southern sweet tea? It really is sweet! 💖
@1834RestorationHouse No, I haven't. I'm an unsweetened fan. I also don't have a front porch. 😅
Glad you didn't meet up with mom! Scarey
Thanks for the video you two, can't wait to see what you have planned for the new project.
Our pleasure!
I know you mentioned before covering for the tractor but maybe a gazebo?
I'm guessing a shop.
THE BIGGER ROCKS YOU COULD USE IN YOUR LANDSCAPE. THANK YOU.
Jeanie has a large spade in her hands, but you used your hands to move the bricks? 🤔🤣 Great video btw x

@@1834RestorationHouse Thank you for replying! We can't wait for it. We really enjoy watching all you do.
Ugh... that was intense. Like watching a horror movie, and at any moment, something could pop out at you!😮
Will you be done with college after this? Looking forward to seeing your projects - especially the easels!!

All those rocks, maybe that’s where Charlie Brown dumped his trick or treat sack. 😊
Do NOT look under the bricks 🫣
Excellent advice!
Step away from…the…BRICKS😮

We don't have much information about the outbuildings other than shapes and sizes. The only person who would know died a couple of years ago.
Nice!
Any eggshells?
No.
the copper head snake spits at i think
They baby's are more dangerous then the big ones. The young will release all of thire venom at once
A pond?
Something more practical...
What were all the bricks doing there
Junk pile as far as we can tell. Left over from some demolition project.
🙋♀️❤
Hello Margaret! 💖
Use a hand tool
Love the intense snake drama
Does my hand count as a hand tool? ;-)
Wrap arms in a leather and wear boots
or....turn tail and run like the wind!
