    • @carolynstine3465
      @carolynstine3465 11 месяцев назад +2

      Erik MUST be extremely handsome with his mask so that Christine is attracted to him. Otherwise it is just a horror show! It doesn’t matter how well the other Phantoms sing, if they are ugly etc. there is no temptation!

  • @kristashafer93098
    @kristashafer93098 Год назад +109

    Fun Fact: The title song is the only one pre recorded. All combinations. Leads, Alts, Understudies. They do this to protect Christine’s voice from having to hit that insanely high note at the end.

      I did not know that

    • @jenniferhiemstra5228
      @jenniferhiemstra5228 Год назад +8

      That has nothing to do with it, it actually has to do with the staging, not the inability to sing the E6. Whoever plays the role still has to record it after all.

    • @-flabbergasted
      @-flabbergasted Год назад +25

      @@jenniferhiemstra5228 @Krista Shafer I think it's because of both the staging and preserving the person who is playing Christine's vocal chords. No doubt that any actress has trouble hitting the e6 live, but to do it 7 times a week (the understudy plays one show a week) will probably give them vocal nodules. Both Christine's and the Phantom's tracks are recorded for the title song also because they have to run down from the bridge looking thing (tEcHniCaL tErM lol) and start singing immediately after they are in the boat. There's a lot of running around backstage and onstage in the number so the mic can pick up a lot of unwanted sound.
      (sorry long comment :] )

    • @jenniferhiemstra5228
      @jenniferhiemstra5228 Год назад +7

      @@-flabbergasted Exactly, it’s the staging. But honestly, any well trained singer can do that melisma multiple times a week and still stay vocally healthy. Would it have to be done carefully? Absolutely. But as long as it’s done with care, it’s not as hard as it’s made out to be.
      In reality Carlotta is the more difficult sing. She may have less stage time, but the vocal material make up for that. My first voice teacher did that role for a year back in the mid 90’s in San Francisco and the stories she told me were WILD

    You should do a top 10-20 performers who have played the Phantom, including during tours. Ideally, top performers worldwide (Broadway, West End, international productions)... there are so many good ones, and you could use a combination of singing, acting, etc. to determine which performers ranked higher. Like Gary Mauer has great vocals, Peter Karrie made fantastic acting choices, Earl Carpenter has one of the most nuanced performances, Ethan Freeman is one of the most accurate to Leroux's novel, and so on.

    I was always a fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera and it has always been a dream for me to play The Phantom in the musical itself as well as the sequel Love Never Dies and to me I feel that the songs are so hauntingly beautiful in a way that they seem to build up all the tension how one fights against the other for true love and risking it all to all the proceedings in the Paris Opera House however when it comes to musicals on film that draws a lot of inspiration and helps me to channel the inner Phantom character one particular performance was that of Gerard Butler in the 2004 film version which I quite like and for me I would be great at being the Opera Ghost character so that I hope to one day do that performance justice hopefully if I ever get that chance to star in the musical for years to come

    My Mom has seen Phantom of the Opera play once. When Robert Guillaume was the Phantom. She also has the soundtrack from the original with Michael Crawford. She likes to say that Michael Crawford is a loving passionate Phantom. While Robert Guillaume was an angry Phantom. They are her Favorite Pahnotms. She's really picky about other Phantoms.

    The title song is my favorite. It really pissed me off that they cut an entire verse in the movie.

    Michael Crawford will forever be the Phantom to me.
    No one has what he gave that role

      He played the role more sinister and joker like. Others have grasped onto the big intimidating version. Both are good for me. I do recommend Hugh Panero if you appreciate the more sinister vibes of Micheal. He does very well at the mad man part of the role.

    I’m sorry but the fact down once more isn’t top five is absurd, the trifecta of Raoul Phantom and Christine is amazing, and the ending! Come on man

    It's amazing how even when I'm not WATCHING it I can immediately tell which clips are from that horrible 2004 movie. It's like no one could sing.
    Anyway...Music of the Night will ALWAYS be my favorite song. As long as it's sung by someone who has the voice for it.
