Groundhog Day (1993) First Time Watching/Movie Reaction & Commentary - Is Phil In Hell??!

- This movie is actually terrifying when you think about it. Phil probably lived the same day for, I don't know, ten years?? He didn't age, he couldn't move forward, he also had to listen and see the same things e-v-e-r-y freaking day. It's amazing that this is a comedy but the concept itself is HELL. Now that I mentioned hell, I think somehow he actually descended there. I'm not going to pretend like I understood this movie 100% lol but I'm pretty sure that what happened to him had something to do with hell/being punished. Although, I'm still wondering why this happened on "Groundhog Day"? Why a groundhog? lol. Anyways, I had fun editing and reacting to this (and it took me a long time) so I hope people enjoy it.
What did you think of my reaction? Let me know in the comments :)
#GroundhogDayMovieReaction #GroundhogDay
They should have released "Groundhog Day 2" in Theaters and just shown the original movie. Would be a great promotion for a special Blluray Release or something like that XD
Or just spend the whole movie delving deep in day 2.
😄😂
You don't need "Groundhog Day 2", you have "Happy Death Day", it's literally a funnier version of Groundhog Day. Amanda, maybe you can take a look at that too? :)
I don't think it was a single moment that "broke the curse." In my opinion, it was all about transforming Phil. He needed to grow into a better person, and it took him quite a while to do so! The lesson you pointed to may have been the _last_ lesson he learned, but it wasn't the _only_ one.
i think what broke the spell was him accepting whatever happens and being 100% content with his life. before the final groundhog day, even when he was starting to live near-perfect life he was always dreading the fact that it was gonna reset the next day. but after the spell is broken and it's finally tomorrow Rita specifically mentions that Phil went right to sleep as soon as he hit the bed. whereas the previous time he slept with her he stayed up all night worrying about the fact he wouldn't be able to continue that experience with her. The fact that he was able to fall asleep without worry and 100% content with his day, is what ultimately broke the spell.
@@env0x 🤔 Interesting thought. I like it!
Oooh, interesting. I've thought about it since I posted this video and I agree that "appreciating the present" is just one of the lessons Phil learned from this experience. There's also the fact that he became more patient, kind and caring :)
Also if you think about it, she gave him the solution to escaping the loop when she advised him to look at it as an opportunity.
I think it was the moment he brought Larry coffee.
Amanda! Yes, Punxsutawney is a real town northwest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The town pictured at the beginning of the movie wasn't just a standard "opening city scene" shot, but it was Pittsburgh. The castle-like glass building the camera held on for a bit is the PPG Center (Pittsburgh Plate Glass), which makes, among other things, the windows for many of the cars made in this country.
Know why Phil didn't want to go to Punxsutawney at the beginning of the movie? Because Phil was a hotshot city guy who didn't want to mingle with hicks (rural folks). Remember when you said they should leave, at the end of the movie? Well, no, because Phil was a better person and found the smaller rural town alluring and satisfying; he no longer needed to be a big-city guy! :)
The fact that why this happened was never revealed to him but he learned some valuable life lessons is the exact same thing this does for the viewer... it's poetry, it means to you what it means to you. A lot more films used to be like this and I wish more were today.
If I'm being completely honest, I have to say (like I said in the video) that I prefer movies that explain things, there's nothing wrong with it since art is very subjective. However, after learning the meaning of "Groundhog Day" I can appreciate the irony in the storytelling of this movie 👍
@@amandamiquilena Groundhog Day reminds me very much of the classic TV show The Twilight Zone in which the plot of so many episodes is based in some kind of 'charma' catching up to someone or a tale of "Be Careful What You Wish For" in which the main character learns a lesson the hard way when some supernatural event changes the way the universe works without there being any reason for it to happen other than to let them see something they're overlooking, ignoring or intentionally avoiding. The famous Christmas film 'It's A Wonderful Life' is also like that, when the universe allows a man a chance to see what the world would be if he didn't exist. The moral is generally the same... that we should appreciate what we have more than we do because we're spoiled, arrogant, ignorant, greedy or anything else that blinds us. Only when a film doesn't make it so obvious, it makes the viewer think about it more and even ask other people what they think about it. 🙂
@@amandamiquilena You might be more interested in The Trueman Show then.
This movie is popular in the Buddhist community as an excellent representation of enlightenment. It is only when Phil abandons attachment to the past and future and accepts life as it is that he can truly begin life. The night the loop ends, he says that whatever happens, he is happy now and that's all that matters.
Always interesting to watch reactions to one of my favourite movies. Amanda, you were great. Asking the obvious question, why? Having seen this movie SO many times, about 25 or so, the why doesn't matter in a literal sense. It helps to understand this was written by a Buddhist and each day represents a lifetime. Some people have tried to calculate how many Groundhog days he actually went through but, in the original script, it was meant to be 10,000 - that is, 10,000 lifetimes.
It is meant to be symbolic of changing karma or changing yourself or else you are doomed to repeat your suffering over and over again. You are right when you say that the moment it changed was when he said he was happy now no matter what happens tomorrow (because I love you was added by the studio). Being happy now in this moment represents Buddhist enlightenment that one was thought to have to live 10,000 lifetimes to reach. But this movie is demonstrating it is simply about learning through living what you need to change to be a happier person and gain respect from others.
The main change (which is consistent with Buddhism) was when he started to devote himself to helping other people - not to sacrifice himself for others or to be just self-centred but, to fully respect himself and fully respect others and to arrive at a state of life where he is happy in himself right now.
The whole message of this movie and the fact it is so entertaining is amazing. It deals with some of the profound and basic issues of life - suffering and reactions to it (depression, hedonism, romantic love, suicidal thoughts and finally realising one can change for the better through one's own responsibility) - only lasts an hour and a half, is funny, entertaining, clever, packed with so much incident, twists and turns - everything you would want in a movie and everything you would want to know about life really.
"Sometimes people just die."
"Not today."
"He hadn't died before?"
No, no. Phil is just vowing that on _this_ day, _his_ day, he will make sure no one dies.
Spider-Man vowed that no one would die on his watch once. Didn't work out.
"That's a professional ground hog." Ah man, you have some good lines
Hello! This is my birthday movie since I was born on February 2nd, GROUNDHOG DAY! I watch this every year on my birthday, and I've actually BEEN to Punxatawney, PA on my birthday. I can tell you that the morning of, the town becomes a nationwide media curiosity, complete with news choppers and Good Morning America doing live interviews. Lots of fun!
Hey, that's really cool! I would love to go there on Groundhog Day. Before posting this reaction, I didn't know it was a real thing hahah. It looks like fun tbh
When you watch a movie like this the best thing to do is to not over think and try is rationalize everything. Just use your imagination, have a few laughs and enjoy the ride.
Amanda I know this was posted nearly two years ago, but I just watched your reaction to this movie today. I'm glad that you enjoyed watching this movie, and I could see how intrigued you were about all of the twists and turns in the story. Groundhog Day has always been one of my favorite movies, and it is always entertaining no matter how many times I have seen it. The actor with the raspy voice is Brian Doyle Murray, Bill Murray's brother, and they have been in several movies together.
Any explanation for why it happened would just make the movie worse, I think. It's not about that and it really doesn't matter why it happened.
Phil is a condescending asshole, but he's not really any worse than your average person. He's not a murderer or something. But he still goes through however many thousands of days of selfishness, pettiness, cruelty, bitterness, resentment, anger and eventually suicidal depression and rage before he does what seems to finally set him free - learn. On the other hand, he DOES learn and grow.. eventually. It's kind of a perfect movie; lots of depth and meaning, a pretty serious examination of what it means to be human and what it means to be a good person, but wrapped up in an endlessly watchable, fun, funny, quotable movie. I like it a lot.
Thank you for this summary. It's a fabulous movie.
Amanda...Phil didn't learn piano out of his own initiative. He started learning piano because, if you recall, on one of the early days he repeated, he asked her what kind of guy she would like and among several things, she said she would like a guy who plays an instrument.
It's better when the movie doesn't explain the cause. It lets us think up our own explanations. An early draft of the script had something about it being a curse from one of Phil's ex-lovers, and I think we can all agree that something like that would ruin the movie. The universe is a strange and mysterious thing sometimes, and not everything has or needs an explanation.
I think it can work either way, depending on the movie.
Groundhog Day definitely works great as it is without any sort of cause behind the time loop. It's just a fantastical emotional journey that's all about Phil's rollercoaster ride of a character arc as he lives through this exhausting existential crisis. The important part is that journey, not the mechanics of how / why it might have started and ended.
But another "time loop" themed movie I've liked for a long time is a sci-fi movie called 12:01. There is a specific cause that got the loop started in the first place, a machine that was turned on at 12:01AM which accidentally bounced everything back a day and will continue to be activated again and again and again forevermore unless something is done to prevent it. By coincidence, an accident at the exact same time made the movie's main character capable of retaining his memories. So he's the only one that knows what's going on and he has a clear goal to work towards. He needs to figure out what he can do to gain access to this machine (as I recall he's just a low level office worker in a small branch of the same company) and prevent it from being used. Understanding the mechanics of how the loop happened is pretty much the most vital component of the journey that needs to be taken.
the filmmakers said there was no explanation on the trap, and they didn't want to provide any details as to how/why this was happening. they also are not specific about how long he's repeating, but some believe he was trapped in the same day for many years. he had to master ice sculpting, french, and playing the piano, not to mention card throwing. the point is that he has to change his ways to get out of it. he starts completely selfish and ends almost selfless. his ability to find happiness helping others breaks the curse, and when he kisses her and says he is totally happy at that moment, and she says she is also, it snows. this is the first new natural act in the repeating day, signalling that he is no longer repeating. note that he tries to save the old man, an act of charity, but it's still selfish in that he's doing it for himself, to see if he can save the stranger with his god-like powers. when he realizes he can't save a single person in a single day, that he does not control other's mortality, he decides to just help everyone along the way and that is the key to becoming a better person, which breaks the curse.
"What's the least creative title we can give this?"
"Stuck in time!"
What you may have thought was him making peace with it was him enjoying the novelty of doing whatever he wanted without consequences. As the novelty wore off, that's when he he was finally going crazy and looking for ways to kill himself. When he finally decided to use his time well to learn new things and help others, that's when it finally ends. The director, Harold Ramis (who incidentally played a cameo role as the medical doctor) once said he received letters from Buddhist, Christians, and philosophers who all projected their beliefs onto the film. The Buddhist saw it as a lesson in samsara and Phil only ended the cycle of being stuck when he became a better person. I imagine Catholics saw Phil being stuck in Purgatory. I love this film.
The Spanish title may have given the movie away, but this movie changed the meaning of _Groundhog Day_ from a seasonal celebration (it's literally the middle of winter) to the loop plot twist it is today.
It’s great that your first reaction is the entire town is conspiring to make him believe he’s reliving the same day. And then HELL. Things escalated fast.
Thank you for all these videos, I’ve been enjoying all of them. It was because of you that I finally had the nerve to watch Squid Game and got really hooked on it. Don’t worry about the production values of them, I think a big part of their charm is how natural they feel. To have your cats wandering by or your mom popping in while you watch makes it more like you’re watching it with a friend. If you’re looking for another superb scary movie from close to the 80s, I’d recommend the original Candyman from 1992. From how you’ve reacted to the other horror movies I think you’d enjoy it. It’s very creepy with some really shocking moments.
Yes, Punxsutawney is here in Pennsylvania. I've never been there but it is real. And they do have this festival every year on February 2nd.
Love how you gave a trigger warning for Groundhog Day but I just watched you watch The Thing, The Blob, The Excorsist, Alien and Aliens with no such warnings 😄
Wish you'd do more Horror reactions. And how Lovely you are 😍
If you didn't catch it, Rita is their new producer. Phil just met her at the beginning of the movie so she wouldn't really know what is out of character for him.
it is estimated that Bill Murray's character lived through the same day, in equivelant of roughly 34 years
I read that Harold Ramis had 10,000 years in mind when he wrote it.
That day was a lesson on how to live life: make the best possible out of each day - not just for yourself, but include fellow humans as well.
Me (and a bunch of other people) consider this to be the best movie ever made.
Thanks for the nice reaction, Amanda
I love this movie, thanks for watching it!
And that's awesome you were a reporter!
She didn't really know Phil, she was just made his producer. Her opinion hadn't been fully formed.
I have attended Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney on 4 occasions. It is a lot of fun. If you ever have the opportunity I highly suggest attending in person.
OMG I would looove to! 😄
@@TheCatbert2010 4 different years.
WHOA I have seen this movie probably 20 times and I've seen a hundred reactions to it and not once did I ever realize that was a young Michael Shannon! Good catch!
Groundhog is "marmota", pretty much very similar to a beaver in many ways. Funny thing about the translation of this title in Spain in that, at the end, many people use the original title of the movie, Groundhod´s day (el día de la marmota), as an coloquial expression when you are doing the same thing over and over or something repetitive or even to refer the movie itself.
Ahh, no sabía que en España usaban esa expresión para algo que se repite (o hacer algo repetidamente). Creo que eso me hubiera ayudado a entender más rápido la trama jajaj
In English, the groundhog is also call a marmot, especially in the Rocky Mountains.
I think it was mostly about not having the courage to "seize the day" and make a move on Rita when he first met her. He just had such a low opinion of himself and of the world that he couldn't reconcile the idea of someone who could make him truly happy. You may not have noticed, but he tells her he loves her three times in the movie. The first isn't genuine. He only says it because he's trying to get her into bed, and he's starting to go crazy from his situation. The second time she's half-asleep and he's still wrestling with it so he doesn't actually say the words. It's not until she's awake and he really means it that the curse is broken (you may have heard the expression "three times a charm"). Telling someone honestly how you feel about them can be difficult sometimes, but you never know what can happen. Saving yourself some mild embarrassment right now might actually turn into a nightmarish existence of endless regret, just as taking the right chance at the right time could elevate the whole world for you. That's what I got, anyway.
Good review. And yes, the music is great, really tops off the film and makes it even better. This is probably my favourite film of all time, and I've seen it lots of times. I enjoy it so much, I re-watch it every February 2nd. If you watch the extra commentary on the extended DVD, the late, great Harold Ramis says that Phil was probably stuck in that same day for many, many years, although as with much of this film (like why it happened in the first place), it's left to the imagination of the viewer.
Phil goes from scared to self-indulgent to manipulative to depressed, but it was only when he learned to stop being self-focused and genuinely started to care for Rita and improve himself for the benefit of others (as you said, "humbling himself" and changing into a better person) that he was released from the 'captivity' of groundhog day.
I Love that the title in Spanish spoiled it, yet when it happened, Amanda was still confused at first. Not a complaint, as that is being immersed in the story as it goes, and makes it more enjoyable.
Yes! The newlywed is actor Michael Shannon in his first movie role. I've known this for years, and it still blows my mind, because he's so young here. I am very impressed you were able to spot him!
Haha 6am is actually pretty large for the news. Usually they're waking up at 4am so they can be at work at 6.
"Winter is nice". Definitely something someone NOT from the American midwest would say. Didn't realize you were from Venezuela. My Venezuelan wife says hello!
That's exactly what I was thinking when she said that... its definitely not nice here in the "frozen tundra"
Hi Amanda(: you almost made this movie as a Sherlock Holmes movie 👍👍🇸🇪 THX for a wonderful reaction Amanda 🦦💡🇸🇪
Hahaaa, sorry. I have this obsession with understanding things and why they happen (it exhausting in real life lol)
Aww, you cut out some of my favorite parts! Phil: "What if you were stuck in one place, and every day was the same. And nothing you did mattered." Bar Friend: "Well, that about sums it up for me." Phil: "I was in Jamaica once. We ate lobster on the beach. In the evening we made love like otters. Why couldn't I have that day over, and over, and over again?" And nothing beats the armored truck robbery and him buying that Mercedes and dressing up like Clint Eastwood in a western. "One adult and one...oh, two adults I guess. My old fiancé, she doesn't remember me." Anyway, you had a great and fun reaction to an American classic. Thanks for sharing.
Between this movie and Scrooged, Bill Murray is the master of going from nasty to nice in a movie. It's even there (a bit) in Ghostbusters.
The Life Aquatic too. A little bit. His character seems to find some inner peace at the end.
And Im thinking Lost in Translation is a a film very similar thematically to this one. He's a fish out of water having to discover ways to cope with a world that is strange and annoying and finds redemption through love.
St.Vincent ?
In switzerland we burn a snowman filled with explosives on a stake while having people on horses with torches runaround it and count how long it takes until the head explodes which has the most explosives. If it takes less than ~15 minutes then its gonna be a good summer.
We call it Böögg which can also be used to describe buggers.
Groundhog day is an extension of Candlemas. The superstition related to shadows and flame was anthropomorphized into the groundhog's prediction.
Groundhog day is one of 2 holidays I celebrate (new year's being the other). Both of them celebrate rejuvenation and hope for the coming year.
Fun Fact: the original script for this movie stated that he keeps reliving the same day over and over again because an ex girlfriend he screwed over decided to practice witchcraft and cursed him. The script also states that he is trapped in this loop for over 1000 years.
I've seen this film a hundred times and I never noticed that was Michael Shannon. You did it on your first watch. Mind-blowing. 🤯
When I saw this at the theater, I liked how the subject just went full circle. From panic, to annoyance, to mischievousness, to anger, to depression and wanting to end it all, then after realizing you can't end it all, to just decide to make the best of it.
Hi Amanda!!! When I get my news network, you are the first reporter that I'm going to hire! ;-)
I can't believe the poster title gave it away like that! Was someone just not proofreading that day, or is it some regional law about movie titles, lol.
This is a Zen like "Phil"-osyphical fable that's meant to make us think and learn. Here are just two takeaways....."If you don't GROW you are doomed to repeat the same day". & "You never wake up tomorrow so might as well makes the best of today".😉☯☮
I for sure come to your channel to see your reactions, not just this or Rick and Morty...
I also really loved your Thing reaction, and the Alien movies...
For me I like to se a reactor react to something I’ve already seen, and that I liked.
So if it’s a movie I haven’t seen yet, I probably won’t watch reactions until I see the movie or show myself.
And if it’s a show I just couldn’t get into, then I probably won’t be looking for reactions to that, those are really the only reasons I don’t look at certain videos.
But I love your reactions, you have a kind and sweet voice, and a really funny sense of humor, and seeing your reactions is absolutely why I come to your channel.
I really hope you liked Groundhog’s Day,
it’s one of my favorite movies ever...
This film is a romance comedy, however the 2nd layer is a story of redemption similar to "A Christmas Carol".
He becomes a good person and deserving of her love. When she does love him, the cycle breaks.
When my alarm goes off at 3.30am to go to work... it feels like groundhog day
DAMN that's early. I really admire that. I usually work all night long so, whenever I have to get up before 9AM, I spend the day rotting 😂
41:42 - I haven't seen this movie in a while and it means something different to me than it did when it first came out. At this point I think of this story as being the 'death' of the old Phil, and his decades or possibly even centuries spent in purgatory. At the end, he leaves purgatory and starts his heavenly existence. He's learned to value people, to love others, and to love himself. It makes sense to me that Phil wants Rita to make a life with him in the town - it's the place where he has made all these wonderful connections. He knows the people (he's been completely disconnected from people in his previous life).
Groundhog Day is a national holiday in the US but they have the biggest celebration in Punxsutawney, PA.
Nearly 30 years later and it is still the best "Time-Loop" movie.
Also technically the first Film to feature this type of Time-Loop (uncontrolled). There was a Japanese film in 1983 (The Girl Who Leapt Thru Time), but she could control when an d how for she went back.
12-01 with Helen Slater is a good movie too :)
I think it is awesome to know that you were reporter for a news paper in Venezuela.
The mirror-image (vertical flip) of the movie seemed to change my understanding of the movie. I didn't realize how much information was conveyed with just the way the scenes were shot.
If you really want your mind blown, think about this. The first time he went through Groundhog Day, it was the worst day of his life. The last time, it was the best day. The only thing that changed, the only difference between the best day and the worst day was him
Just got done watching your reaction to “Airplane!” I commented there that I thought you looked great with those specs. When I come here and find you introducing them. Still think you’ll look great in those specs.
He was stuck there for at least 30 years but likely longer. The director said it took 10 years to master 1 thing and he mastered piano, ice sculpting, and chiropractics. On top of that he knew everyone. So, it was at least 30 years but more likely 40-50 years and some estimates over 100 years. On a side note, the original script was written with an ex having this curse put on him.
Estimates for how much time takes place as Phil is reliving Groundhog Day are 10 - 34 years.
36:43 - "It's cool that he learned to play the piano, you know, out of his own initiative, and that just happened to be something that she liked."
20:09 - ". . . and he plays an instrument . . ."
Hmmm . . .
34:40 "Womo! Womo! Wowo-wom-also, I'm hungry! I haven't eaten..."
That epiphany: "Ohhh. Okaaiiii!" 😂
“That’s a professional groundhog”. Brilliant.
Punxsutawney is a town 2 hours from me. Ground Hog Day is not a national holiday but more so a superstition about if the Ground Hog sees its own shadow, then it's assumed to be a longer winter lmao.
The mayor (whose voice you enjoyed) was played by Bill Murray’s older brother. He’s in most Bill Murray movies, if not all of them.
It was just a vague supernatural force that waited for him to become a better person.
"The title of this movie in Spanish gives it all away."
5 minutes later...
"What? What the actual heck? Is this on purpose? Is everybody in on this?"
Oh there can be many reasons as to why a movie is titled a certain way. It actually plays a big part in attracting the audience. Also, you gotta have an open mind and disposition when you do reactions. It's mostly about having fun 😊
@@amandamiquilena Well, that's certainly one way to look at it!
Oh, and Senator, just one more thing...love your glasses.
I think if somebody has thousands of days time to figure out the perfect words he could get nearly anybody to do anything - and surely make someone fall for him.
"They have a whole day . . . for a _rodent_ . . . in this town?" 🤣🤣🤣
Lol, in America the entire nation “celebrates” Groundhog Day. I say “celebrate” because it’s mostly a joke. Superstition given a special day. A shadow predicts if winter weather will stick around.
window shades? :)
the proper name is blackout curtains. I have extras if needed.
It's a super sad film when you realise how long he's lived that day for.
.. but one of my favourite films of all time!
Good find with Michael Shannon, I’ve watched this so many times and never noticed him. I really like “take shelter” that he’s in with Jessica Chastain.
They have to be up at 6am Sunrise in Punxsutawney is 6;28am on February 2.
Oh damn! I thought you were Clark Kent at first, with that disguise on!! 👓👓
Tried to kill the groundhog? He roasted that puppy! Excellent reaction! Thank you.
Some other suggestions for movies (you've likely seen some, or all of them):
-Memento
-Back to the Future
-The Prestige
-Pulp Fiction
-Se7en
-It Happened One Night (1934, a Capra film, one of my favorites... Romantic AND witty, but a bit slow paced by today's standards)
I enjoy your content, thanks for continuing to take the time.
You boiled it down to it's most basic and it was so funny when you just said "They have a whole day for a rodent in this town?"
My favorite movie since early 90s. But when I was a kid just watch this film as a pure comedy. And when grew up I got philosophy of that
An intelligent reaction to a movie not easy to make sense of. I love your dry humour and originality. Well done again. Amanda. Still waiting for the conclusion of the LOTR trilogy (ROTK) ...?
I feel like I've been here before. ⏰
This movie is a comedy so why does everyone think the day will suddenly stop repeating when he tries to kill himself? That wouldn't be funny-would it? I never thought for a second this wouldn't have a happy ending. I laughed my ass off during his suicide attempts because it is a COMEDY. Lighten up people! Also, why wouldn't he want to live in Punxsutawney after getting to know the WHOLE town? Everyone loves him there. He is a hero.
Every reactor so far: 'I love blood sausage.'
27:30 Thanks for the warnings, things like that are sometimes difficult to watch, especially if you almost, or did lose a family member from such a thing. Okay P.S. Here is my theory, the reason he has to go through the entire day over and over again, is... Like "Lier, Lier", she made a wish that he's become the perfect man for her, it just takes him a while... A few thousand years to get there that's all. When he fulfills all the list of requirements like playing an instrument, and such he finally unlucks the perfect boyfriend wish she made, and he manages to escape. If they added one scene with her saying her wish the entire movie would be explained. But that's just a theory. I also have a long, 1 hour and 32-minute video theory on the movie Clue, and like puzzles, which probably helps in trying to solve these types of mysteries.
I could watch this movie on repeat, it’s so good.
I could watch this movie on repeat, it’s so good.
blood sausage! havent heard that in years, they call it black pudding in England. as a kid i used to eat it raw as a treat lol
One of the creators in an early interview said that Phil was in the time loop for 10,000 years to achieve enlightenment per Buddhist philosophy to be released from the loop. Another theory is that Ned the Life Insurance Salesman is the Devil ("I as sure as heckfire (Hellfire) remember you, ... watch that first step (down to hell), it is a doozy" his red feather (horn) in his hat), and that only on the day that Phil bought the contract (sold his soul) he was released from the loop. My money is on Ned the Devil rather than enlightenment.
Cómo me gusta la edición de tus videos! 😂 Saludos desde Argentina!
Gracias! Saludos 😊😊
There is no way to accurately measure how long Phil had remained trapped in the timeloop. However, in the novel, he started a ritual of going to the public library to read a single page each day, progressing to the next page the next day. Eventually, he finished every book in the library. Considering the average library has tens of thousands of books and each book can have hundreds of pages, he was trapped in that timeloop for several thousand years.
"I could never love someone like you, Phil, because you'll never love anyone but yourself."
""That's not true; I don't even _like_ myself."
Finally, a moment of true honesty from Phil. Good writing there. 👍
A groundhog is a furry, beaver sized rodent that lives in North America. They hibernate in tunnels beneath the ground during winter. They begin to emerge from their tunnels after the weather warms from between February to late March.
There is an old native American tale that says if the groundhog emerges and sees his shadow, then he will crawl back into his tunnel and this will mean six more weeks of cold weather. But if the groundhog doesn't see his shadow, then winter has finally passed. It's a silly tale we tell our children. Groundhog Day is supposed to be the day that the groundhog first emerges.
Great Movie. . Fun fact the mayor of the town is Bill Murray real brother. Also there was suppose to be a scene that there was a witch who cursed Phil but they decided not to put it in and leave it open. Another movie with same time loop story but more serious and sci fi is The Edge of Tomorrow 2014 with Tom Cruise. Another great Bill Murray sarcastic comedy movie is MeatBalls or the Ghostbusters movies.
We don't know. We'll never know. They never explain it, because we like it anyway, I guess they don't have to. Just true love, maybe, I guess? There's a newer movie that is sort of a new take on the concept called "Palm Springs". You should definitely check that out. I'm new to you, and your channel, but liked this reaction, and want to see more
Great video! Looking forward to more Rick and Morty and Marvel videos.
Thank you! Funny that you mentioned Marvel because I'm posting Iron Man 2 and Thor soon 😀👍
loved the reaction (and glasses) i suggest The Princess Bride ;)
Well I didn't realize we had our own Venezuelan Lois Lane! That is really neat Amanda! Totally unrelated, but just thought of it with mentioning Venezuela... I went to school in Bolivar Missouri and we had a statue of the Liberator Simon Bolivar that was donated by Venezuela... Oh and the school mascot was the Liberators and was literally Simone Bolivar...
Whaaaaaat! Are you serious? I had no idea all if this existed haha. Well, I knew there where things in the US named after Simón Bolívar but I didn't know this lol. Thanks for taking the time to share. Loved this 💜😀
@@amandamiquilena My Mom made a little Simon Bolivar costume for my younger brother to dance around as the mascot... He was like 5 years old or something at the time... It's a whole thing there embracing The Great Liberator, the town took the name while Bolivar was still fighting or shortly after. I moved a long time ago, but they are still the Liberators...
Since Phil is a local celebrity, it's at least possible that Ned didn't know him at all in high school. If he watched enough of Phil's reports, he could have learned about his high school and sister, and just tried to make him feel guilty about not remembering (or maybe even create a fake memory). It's exactly what Phil does to Nancy. It would have been harder in the 90s, when not as much was online, though.
When “50 first dates” first came out a lot of people loved it (as they do most adam sandler movies, theyre just likable in general, lol), but eventually ppl were like “wait, its kind of a rip off of that groundhogs day movie from 15 years ago” ....groundhogs day is just a straight up classic...anyway, bc ive been watching so many reations to it i got in my suggested videos a “youtube short” that said in the original screenplay he was supposed to relive the same day for 10,000 years, but when they made it they just tried to convey 30, or 40 years, or at least thats what they had in mind...yeah, i think u pretty much got it right, the point was just about love & growing & being a better person & being in the present, but yeah, movies with open interpretations are cool now that i think about it, a lot of great art is like that, some musicians & painters refused to explain the meaning sometimes (like picasso) & said/say it was up to the viewer (or audience)...anyway, awesome reaction:D
Didn't know you were a reporter. Cool!
Looks like he never try to leave toon as soon as he woke up, I wonder how far he would’ve gotten before it was 6 AM again.
I like blood sausage. It sounds like a Klingon dish. Where‘s my blood wine!?
