The wind knocked my bike over in the winter. Took FOREVER to source a spare hanger (proprietary parts, ugh). Fortunately I had a second bike. I now also choose my bikes based on spare parts availability :)

I like this one, thanks. I do worry about cars not seeing it and running it over but this is still a solid tip.
I never put my helmet on the ground, ants can be a hazard.

Had my nice shiny Oltre at the Sea Otter a couple years back. Hung it on the bike rack by the seat to get my registration packet. When I came out, a mountain biker was getting their bike from the rack and dumped the bike rack and my bike.
Ended up chipping the clear coat on the rear derailleur. Guy was very apologetic and all I could do was sigh and say, "Stuff happens.".
In my biking group, we have a saying - it's not a ride til someone dumps their bike. And just like you said - the bike is leaning securely against the curb/pole...until it's not 🤦

Yes I agree, can't fall over if it's already down. It's much tougher here in NM though where everything is rocky and scratchy, no luxurious grass like in your vid!

Ha ha San Diego is an irrigated desert! Every thing is brown and/or sandy and rocky. Funny when people say they are going gravel riding here I'm like that's not gravel riding that's MTB trail riding with a drop bar bike. When I raced Trans Iowa in 2009 THOSE roads were gravel rock and of course arguably the birthplace of this movement.
FYI - 3 for 3 events of someone's electronic shifting failing. I just did a video on the Giro di San Diego where I had to help a rider get home because his Di2 shifting shit the bed. And the 600km before that a female rider Di2 shit. And of course we already spoke about the SRAM Force guy during my other 600km. Mechanical Shifting and external cables and housing for the win!

@@SeeYouUpTheRoad Ha ha, I grew up in Iowa, gravel grinding on 23c's all day long in the early 80's! That $hit was chunky too! Columbus steel and down tube shifters ftw!!!

My lids have a diaphragm in them which prevents spillage. More importantly when riding my sugary drinks don’t splash onto my frame. 😉

    Hello George,
I’m uneasy about this one. I’m less worried about my bike falling over as (like you) I’m not riding a carbon frame. Also the RD can be straightened relatively easily. I’d be more upset about the RD getting scratched! 😂
On the negative side of laying the bike down:
If everyone did that there would be no room to walk at the event. 😅
It will dirty or scratch your pedals, saddle and bar tape especially if no grass is available. 🥺
While your peeing someone might think your bike already fell over and move it trying to be helpful, then damage it in the process. 🤦🏻‍♂️
You need to bend over to pick it up… at my age I try to avoid bending over. 👴🏻
Finally, my worst fear… what if the same clumsy idiot who knocks bikes over, accidentally doesn’t see your bike laying on the floor and steps backwards onto your rims! Bending your spokes or cracking your carbon wheels! Id say that’s way worse than a bent hanger. 🫣
I have actually seen someone step on a bike that was laying down and it was not good. 😭
    So my strategy is:
Lean your bike at a steep angle so it can’t possibly get blown over. 🤓
Park it way away from other people. 🤪
And park it with the drive side against the wall so if it falls it doesn’t hit the RD. 😇
All the best and safe riding! 😘

In the case of bikes with disk brakes, near impossible to lay one’s bike down.

    • @SeeYouUpTheRoad
      @SeeYouUpTheRoad  Месяц назад +1

Well see that's your problem right there ... bike with disc brakes :-) ... But seriously you can lay you bike down just the same disc brake bikes too! I don't understand your comment. Of course you can lay your bike down.
