    I rode the UCI - Gravel World Series Peize, Netherlands and it was a great experience to say the least. I did not realize that I had to start at the back seeing my age which was quite a damper I find. That means i would most probably stick to MTB marathons where you can start in one group, the earlier you line up the further forward you are.

    Who the heck is Barry? I am a ex- elite triathlete and started riding in 1984. In real life I am a chiropractor.
    This channel is about cycling and health. I also build my own bikes which can be a risky business as actually i am a chiropractor.
    Born and bread in South Africa, riding my bike in The Netherlands is one journey of discovery as it's so beautiful. I race mountain bike marathons and will soon be doing my first gravel race.
    I raced as a triathlete in South Africa and the United States of America and was on the South African Triathlon Invitation Team 1989.
    Currently i am racing the Sforz MTB Cup in the Netherlands and Germany. I finished in 4th place in my age-group in 2017 and 2018 - 50+
    Thank you for watching my channel.
    Cheers

    Yikes, a bit of an ordeal!!! Also, the starting order based on age is crazy!

      Yeh mate it was a bit of a thing. Starting in the back is just useless. A bit of a procession unfortunately.

      @@thecyclingchiropractoryes the start is not easy but still we start with the guys in our age group ,and the first hour is all out and then you just finish how you can😂works for me,and I,m constantly overtaking if I,m not someone is overtaking me that,s the mind set I keep to stay and get to the front 😉better luck next time 🚵🏼‍♂️🚴🏻‍♀️🚵‍♀️keep making videos 🌞

      @ReoJessurun You are totally right but I was surprised with the starting order. I am used to MTB marathons where you can start at the front if you are racing and at the back if not. There was so much slow traffic but that I guess is the sport. Would love a different system. Thanks for the advice. I will be back.

      @@thecyclingchiropractor yes I understand what you mean 60% is racing and 40% for the challenge what,'s good as long we all have a good time, this was my second gravel event and thanks to you guys posting your videos and talking about your experiences I didn't have to make a lot of those learning mistakes so thanks a lot cheers

    Crazy how narrow that course is and so much dirt vs gravel. Gravel events are way different here.

      @thecyclingchiropractor  Месяц назад +2

      I am not sure where you live, but you are absolutely right. There are plenty single/narrow trails here. I miss the wide open gravel roads in the States and South Africa. At least then you could move up and not just be stuck behind.

      @@thecyclingchiropractor US East Coast. The events I’ve done are mostly country gravel roads, gravel fire roads in the state parks with paved sections. You do get some double track dirt stuff here and there but not much.

      @stevehein9061 Sounds lovely. We have had just too much rain in the spring. Mostly it's a bit better over here.

      Dont be tempted to try the Danish gravel race. Its even worse. All single track. All of thick mud. But you get Hansens ice cream at the end.
