when I worry I remember four things:
1-My thoughts can't predict what's really going to happen, so just wait and see how things will turn out
2-most of the time the thing you're worried about does not happen
3-all problems are temporary, and all the things you worried about before are gone
    4-worrying does not change anything

It sounds cruel, but this outlook is from a specific perspective. People (the general public) can be empathetic, but have their own problems. They are usually grateful that they don’t have your problems or figuring out how to avoid your problems.

  • @oneyedjake4768
    @oneyedjake4768 7 лет назад +9

One small change in perspective can change everything.
A few+ years ago when I was in college, there was this guy in one of my classes. He was a few years older than the rest of us and he would come to class happy and always seemed calm.
After I got to know him I found out he was a decorated combat vet with not one but many tours under his belt. He told me once "stress is what you make it" he went on to explain that things happen in life that can not be controlled, it's how you deal with them that count...and to put things in perspective.
He said "take being here at school....what a privilege. To be able to spend time here learning and working on ourselves. You get a bad grade, it's all fixable." It changed my whole perspective on school and my work load. I'll still think about this and use it today in life in general. Take stock in your life and be grateful for the good you have in it, don't focus on the bad.

Some of my favourite quotes by Dale are:
    • It isn't what you have, or who you are, or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about.
    • Success is getting what you want. Happiness is wanting what you get
    • Develop success from failures. Discouragement and failure are two of the surest stepping stones to success.
Lastly, my favourite & one of things i personally stand by -
    • Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain but it takes character and self control to be understanding and forgiving.

When I was going through my grief journey of having lost all my family members, I would watch holocaust movies. It was my own way of treating myself to not feel sorry for myself. Granted, grief is real, and it hurts on all levels, physical emotional mental and spiritual, but if you do not have a good support system, which I did not, then taking charge and empowering yourself with how you can help yourself is the most empowering thing you can do so that you can get on with life.

I was meditating while listening to your video and when I got to the head being chopped off part I had to turn it off. I get what you're trying to say, and I get that you're highlighting an extreme situation in order to get viewers to associate pain with worry, but I've found that simply earth gazing can do this! I watch The Overview Effect (my favourite documentary) and it reminds me how insignificant and small my problems truly are in relation to the Universe we live in. I think that's better than watching someone's head being chopped off this early in the morning :) Keep up the great work with your videos, they're inspiring and I appreciate all the hard work and thought that go into creating them.

I just watched the Overview Effect after reading this comment. And after watching it I've had this profound shift in perspective that I feel like I haven't felt before. We're essentially living on this floating paradise in this cosmic ocean of infinity. That fact itself is totally mind-blowing, and I just can't help but feel enlightened with this realisation. I've recently been interested in the thought that people can be resources towards helping yourself out in numerous different ways, and I'm thankful that I found this comment and used it as a resource into discovering the Overview Effect.

    Why Worry?
The are only 2 things to worry about: either your are well or you are sick, If you are well then there's nothing to worry about. If you are sick: there are 2 things to worry about: Either you will get well or you will die. If you get well then there's nothing to worry about. If you die there are 2 things to worry about: Either you go up or down. If you go up, then there's nothing to worry about. But if you go down you will be busy shaking hands with old friends you won't have time to worry.

There was one man who was in a submarine and was caught by the enemy, the submarine was bombarded for 24 hours straight. The person being interviewed who was in that submarine promised himself that he would never worry again because when he was about to die he realized they really amounted to nothing. I really think you should be asking yourself a couple of questions like has she been faithful to you in the past 6 years and also if she has been a great wife throughout and never shown to you that she was extremely unhappy with you. What i'm trying to say is that maybe when she met she did not want to lose you over a weak moment she might have had. Maybe she was unsure that how might react to her not being a virgin. I reckon you have ull right to be annoyed and upset about knowing it now but ask yourself that is he really worth losing your marriage over something that does not exist between the two of you now. Hope you don't mind my reply. Just hoping this might help a bit. Thanks

My wife when eventually came clean told me 'look that wasnt even sex' and told me what happened, at 1st I thought she is just sugar coating the story to make me feel better, I even said that to her, but really I have to believe her. HOWEVER weather or not they had sex its irrelevant! We've known each other nearly 7 years and we lite up everyday when we see each other. Her cousin to be honest is abit jealous and wants my D

Rishabh Singh Sorry mate but i totally disagree with your comment. How can you say that truth, honesty are only masculine concepts. Anyone whether male or female can and will chat if they want to. it is an individual trait. In this scenario, their relationship is absolutely fine but just something from the past is troubling which can easily be avoided by some sensibility and allowing trust to crawl back slowly. Please don't confuse people by your toilet psychology! Makes no sense whatsoever

I felt it got slightly too simplistic in this video. This is a 22yo's perspective. I'm in my late 30s and am a single parent. Every decision I make will impact another human being and potentially the rest of his life. If I'm not worrying about something, I'm in trouble.
I think you need to inject a lot more perspective into your videos than just your own, dude. I appreciate the knowledge you're trying to spread, but it can seem like it's coming off just your world view. That's dangerous.

runninginsept its a review from a book of Dale Carnegie. In the Bible, not to worry was mentioned a lot so maybe there's something into that. Im a single parent but no what when I'm tempted am to worry, I always think about how God solved all my problems. Really! I rather be positive than focusing to worry. Worry can make you to a lot of trouble!!!

While I agree and find inspiration with your concepts, it is easier said than done depending on your situation and phases in your life. A man who loves and lives with his wife and three+ kids and in-laws has much more to manage than a single guy with a girlfriend who has much more time to go to the gym and read a book a day. To the single guy, these sound like excuses until they live in the same shoes...

1⃣ Ask yourself: What's the worst thing that can happen? (0:00)
When faced with worries and anxieties, ask yourself what the worst-case scenario is. Often, we realize that the worst outcome is not as terrible as we imagine, which helps to reduce worry.
2⃣ Recognize the absurdity of everyday worries. (5:36)
We often worry about trivial things and lose perspective on how absurd these concerns can be. By thinking about extreme situations and comparing them to our daily worries, we can realize how irrelevant they truly are.
3⃣ Stay busy with activities you love to ward off negative thoughts. (8:28)
When we engage in enjoyable and meaningful activities, our brains don't have the capacity to dwell on negative thoughts and worries. Find hobbies, exercise, read, or work on projects that bring you joy and fully engage your mind.
4⃣ Value what you already have and stop worrying about insignificant things. (10:41)
Instead of worrying about small everyday matters, appreciate what you already have. Often, we give excessive importance to material things or fleeting worries, while overlooking the true value of things we already possess, such as health, relationships, and happiness.

Always ask yourself : ''What's the worst thing that could happen?!'' Always push through your comfort zone, it will eventually become your normal! I used to be shy and got bullied, to the point where I wanted to end my life. Here is what I did to change. #1 I started to ask time to random people on the street. #2 I started a conversation with them. #3 I started to talk to everyone. #4 I started attending networking events. #5 I did 4 or 5 networking events/week. #6 Once that became easy, I decided my comfort zone would be to speak on stage, so I got a coach. #7 I want to share my love for Philanthropy with the world and we are organizing our first seminar on February 2nd 2019!!

Summary of wise things people have told me over the years:
Negative thoughts feed negative thoughts, but positive thoughts feed positive thoughts! So acknowledge the thought, challenge what needs to be challenged, and then tell yourself a more realistic affirmation of what’s going to happen or what the situation means and focus your energy on something that actually serves and fulfils you
(Trying to do this myself lol, so much easier said than done but just gotta practice)

I think you underestimate the amount of people that worry about legit stuff.... kids over-dosing, marriages breaking up, a family members alcoholism, paying taxes, paying bills, your sister committing suicide... I understand most stuff is just noise, but this sort of flip justification for "tricking" yourself out of an emotion is reductionist and demeaning to people that have real life problems... that are out of your control... there are many of us.

    • @polinachavdarova9244
      @polinachavdarova9244 6 лет назад

I agree that distracting yourself does nothing, and this is why you should try to dig and find the actual causes of the problem so you can solve it. I know the underlying causes and will tell you which they are. You see yourself as a victim and incapable of dealing with things. All these problems are actually within your control, to some extent. A marriage breaking up, if yours, see a professional and work on yourself and your marriage. You and your spouse are the only ones responsible for it, and nobody else. If not yours, it is not your problem, if you can give a constructive advice good, if not, you shouldn't feel guilty about it, let adults take responsibility too and too become active about their own lives. A person with any addiction deeply believes they are not good enough to be loved and make their internal critical voice to finally shut up by substances that numb the brain - show them unconditional love, offer a good therapist, study psychology of addiction and support them in becoming a better person. Money also comes down to developing yourself and being active, not reactive about it, change your belief about money, you deserve them and you are capable of getting them, I am 100% sure. People wanting to commit suicide also deeply believe they are not good enough to the point they want to delete themselves from the world, so they don't burden the people around, by taking their life away. Check out Marisa Peers', best psychologist in England, videos and explanations. You can help make a change, but only once this change has already started within you and you have developed enough capacity. Like teachers first study for many years, develop a capacity and only then support their students in their development. You got this, you are good enough and can deal with life's challenges! God loves you and has given you many opportunities to grow and develop. Believe than you can and that you deserve to be active about your life and own it!

FBIRyan Haha, yeah, I know a lot of people didn't like that.
I remember a few months ago, I was trying to record a voiceover and I think I spilled some water. So I cleaned it up, went back in to record, and my battery was dead. I came out to look for a new battery and I was out of batteries. I was so pissed off I just started yelling.
I got on my computer and they had just released the footage of the Jordanian pilot being burned alive. I started watching it and I couldn't believe how stupid I was. The only reason I'm not being burned alive or chopped up is purely out of luck. I wasn't born in certain place at an unfortunate time. That's it.
I remember I put my microphone away and took the entire day off and went to the park. I just walked around and breathed fresh air. Probably the best day of my life. I had been getting good about not worrying, but that was a huge paradigm shift for me. I don't think I've really worried about anything after seeing the pilot's face right before the fire got to him.

The chopped off head thing was a bit much, but I see where you're coming from. I'm going to try asking myself that question though. Also, there's another way to help fear and that's to change from fear to being excited. It's that "5 second rule" thing that Mel robbins created. It works so well. Whenever you fear or worry about something, count down from 5 and think of ways that you're excited about the situation. Like, I had to take this test and I was having panic attacks all of the time, getting depressed, and the negative thoughts were so overwhelming. It was miserable. But, I told myself that I could do this. I told myself reasons why I was excited for it and I got through it just fine. The thing is that fear and excitement are the same feeling, but the only difference is what your brain calls it. You can trick your brain into thinking that the reason why your body is freaking out is because you're excited. All's i'm saying is that you can change your mindset and trick your brain into positivity.

Climbers call worrying "making snakes out of rope." Sometimes you see something or think about something and you make them worse than they actually are. Don't worry about anything. Worrying doesn't help in the least. An old Chinese proverb says "There are 2 things in life that you should never worry about. They are the things you can change. And the things you can't do anything about." That covers everything in my opinion. God bless and keep your head up. Don't look back. You're not going that way.

I managed my anxiety by meditation, exercise, deep breathing ( 4 seconds in, 4 seconds out), simply finding things to be grateful for, and CBD gummies ( I take those to lower blood pressure but it helps with anxiety too).

Well those who got their heads chopped are mainly Muslims too, Syrians are super majority of Muslims and they are the most victims of Daesh and the funded terror! Those in your area are immigrants who FLED THE WAR to not get their heads chopped too! What is your IQ level?!! Jeezez!

It isn't that simple. Few truisms that maybe works for few days. If you have real problems, you need to find a resolution. Problems doesn't disapear when you thinking about something else. It will come back with double power if you don't fix it. Maybe I'm too mature for this video but i find it so naive...

You can still do something about these problems without worrying. Nowhere does he say you should ignore your problems and let them be, the point is that you don't need to worry about it and everything will be better

What's the definition of "real problem" to you? This video is saying that you shouldn't be wasting time worrying about shit that's not worth worrying about and move on to better things. Not you have a "real problem" and leave it be.
Also to point out finding a solution to a problem does not equal worrying about it all day. It's only gonna slow you down.

You can find a solution to problems, and stop worrying about them also. Not mutually exclusive.

I was on board until you mentioned watching people get their heads chopped off lol... just because someone has it worse doesnt mean your life isnt bad, as selfish as that sounds. I agree with the rest though.

I think we should think about worst and best case both.. It may be possible best happen to us..

    • @yashbhatnagar7653
      @yashbhatnagar7653 8 лет назад

True. But even best and worst case scenarios are perceptions that are controlled by one's mind. A bad situation for someone might work out to be the best scenario for yourself. The trick is keeping an open mind and not undermining yourself in any way.
