Welcome and thank you for watching my first youtube video. In this video you will see how I take the first step of setting up my workshop. I make a solid workbench from 1 sheet of plywood. In the following video (s) you will see that I create extra storage space and a vise. In case of interest, I will place the dimensions later in the description.
For making my workbench I have 1 sheet or 122x244cm (19/32 in. X 4 ft. X 8 ft) sheathing plywood. The advantages of this are that it is cheap and very strong. I used pattex wood glue waterproof for bonding. I still have few powertools as you will see. I have already done the big sawing for the workbench in the workshop at work. I will do the small saw ark for the plywood workbench with my stanley fatmax hand saw. For the assembly I used my Ryobi One + 18v Compact drill. For the sanding, I used my Ryobi One + 18v Orbit Sander.
I hope that I have been able to interest you and that you will follow me in my next projects. If you have any questions, you can reassure them in the comment area below.

I just made one of these for my shed and I am delighted with it!! I can't believe how strong and steady it is. I had to cut the whole 8 x 4 sheet at home but I used Cutlist Optimizer (free online) to make a layout that meant no cuts over 4 feet so it wasn't too bad. Thanks very much, you're a star!.

  • @jellyg.8961

Ive seen probably more than 50 videos on making a good workbench and I can tell you this is the easiest, cheapest while being enough strong bench build! A novice or a more advanced woodworker can use it everyday and also make a lot of easiest improvements to it like dogholes, a moxon type vise made with just two pieces of plywood glued together and long bolts with handles, dogholes in the legs to work tall pieces among other things. The only thing I would change is to save wood from the panel attached below so the top of the bench has overhangs on three sides of it to make it easier to attach clamps. The rest is excellent. Thanks for ths great video! Cheers from Puerto Rico.

Thanks so much for doing this project.
I came across this video about a month ago, having been amazed at designs from the USA requiring enough sophisticated tools to equip a multi-national factory, not to mention your own forest.
Your video made me build a bench (still work in progress) out of plywood of a similar design. The aim is to fit a sliding compound mitre saw on top at one end and table saw + router + whatever else at the other end. There is also going to be a vice, made from a broken Black and Decker Workmate that must be about 50 years old.
The bits it will hold mean that it is bigger at 6ft by 2ft and sits on castors to allow me to move it around the garage. I also fitted solid plywood ends and a 'central' supporting vertical wall as it was longer. Basically the frame was made from one sheet (plus a couple of pieces of Buffalo board that were lying around to mount the castors). I will have lots of spare from the second sheet after fitting the top for ancillary bits.
One consideration for people planning a similar design is that when cutting out the leg pieces (the long cuts) it is very important that the cut is perpendicular to the face of the plywood if you want to get the corners to be anything like 90 degrees. I used a circular saw and a straight edge.
I don't make videos so cannot show what it looks like. I still have to fit the worktop and fit out the whole bend with power and tools
