Great video! If you talk about heteronormativity in sims, can you talk about how the gay sims can only adopt a child, unless you change the gender settings and essentially make one of them “trans”.
To be perfectly honest, I think the only clearly gay or LGBTQ+ person in Stardew Valley, is Alex. He has internalized homophobia to the max, and if you are a girl trying to date him, he’s very misogynistic if you try to date him and I feel women wouldn’t want to date him due to the old time ideals his grandpa taught him. His family is the only one to comment about a non-straight relationship when you get together as a gay couple. I also feel another LGBTQ+ representing person that could be there but isn’t really highlighted is Krobus. Krobus, I believe if the option was there seems like a they/them person. Krobus is admit-ably a shadow monster, but they do have some scenes that almost ( key word, almost) make it seem like a perfect key in to being a platonic partnership but then playing it off when mentioning platonic love in one of their dialogues.. which… sucks.
Since Krobus is my main go to. It’s disappointing to see it almost be there, but be just labeled “Housemates.” I also feel like the last heart event he has, while cute, is kind of disappointing.
Yeah!! Actually the first part of my video is about how different Alex is if you play as a guy vs. a girl. it's interesting how he's actually pretty popular with gay guys, even though a lot of people dislike him for being misogynistic
@@chisorcerer6901 oh yeah Krobus's last heart event doesn't really tell you much about him or develop the relationship. I think it's like the only heart event Krobus has too? It would be nice to see the queerness more explicit, I could definitely see Krobus using they/them pronouns
@Simber yeah Alex is very popular amongst the gays… being that it’s a from what I’ve heard, “classic” straight guy finding another guy he actually has a crush on and slowly accepting his gay self. It is Krobus’ only heart event.! I was expecting it to be a heart to heart and talk about Krobus’ insecurity about being seen by the other townspeople, and accepting the fact that they do have platonic feelings for the player,wanting to be exclusive to each other but nope… it was disappointing. Seemed more like a rushed cute scene that didn’t even involve another character, just some sea monster we never see… The worst thing is figuring out that if you ever do get married, Krobus ( if your housemate) will get upset if you date other people and will start to tell you his fears of being kicked out of the house. The dwarf literally attends marriages.! I get Krobus is a shadow monster, and can’t go into the sun, but the community center barely gets used.! You could have weddings inside there.! *sighs* There is just injustice with Krobus and they are my favorite person in Stardew Valley. ( I hope to get a plush of them soon.)
