My Summer Job: Day in the Life of a Marketing Intern || + how i'm learning about blm.

- i wish i could say i was a positive, jazzy human this week. unfortunately not. blm has been top of mind, as i'm sure it has been for a lot of you! enjoy this realistic day in my life as a part time intern! 🦋
I work as a paid summer marketing intern around ~30 hours a week! I split my time between meetings, long-term projects and working through my Asana project management board. The more I hustle through, the more time I have to spend on RUclips projects and learning. 😌 Keeping myself busy in the working week has given quarantine a new structure, which I appreciate.
How are you spending summer? Is anyone else doing a remote internship? ✨

💰 Important message: All my ad revenue for the whole of June will be going to Black Lives Matter. So, if you feel inclined, watch all of the ads without skipping. Just to let you know, there is very low accountability for RUclipsrs actually giving Adsense to charities they say they will. The way ad revenue is structured involves fluctuating rates and isn't always clear. I think batching it to a whole month will ensure ALL my revenue can be paid straight from YT, to me, to The Bail Project. Thank you!

Casual Magic of the day: I doodled a photo of myself. The kinda self love we all need is being willing to stare at ourselves and make a pretty self-portrait. A reminder that you are art. 🦋
I wake up around 7:20
Me out here waking up at a point where I ask myself if I want breakfast or lunch
Sammeee haha
Lunch?? You early bird
You rock literally everything! Playing ukulele, being a hairdresser, getting up early... is there anything you can't do??
ummm shes not a superhuman there are loads of things probably cant do
@@aazeem398 Oh hi, sure! That doesn't have to be bad at all. You don't have to be perfect right? I just meant to say how she motivates me with all the effort and pleasure with which she learns new things. With that said, I hope you understand me better!!😄
get up late
hammertapping whaaaaat?
@hammertapping Sorry, but you can have a disagreement, but you don't have to express it that way. You are literally attacking Jade right now... would she ever do that to someone else? No, she certainly does not deserve that. Think twice before you just post something :)
I love how much you care. So many people couldn‘t care less and you’re here making a difference!
Thank you!
yes oh my goodness she is extraordinary at caring and it is so inspiring
hammertapping that’s interesting. she is actively working to educate herself and seeking to recognize her privilege in all the ways it touches her life, in addition to using her large platform to advocate the same for her viewers. what would you rather she do?
@hammertapping she stated in this video that she is donating the proceeds to organizations that support Black liberation and the fight against white supremacy. i think that goes beyond virtue signaling. also, i am working on educating myself as well, and i am coming to better, more informed understandings of history and how the world operates today. again, what exactly would you rather Jade do? how do you think she should "unconditionally and totally renounce" the privileges she enjoys under white supremacy?
@hammertapping also-- what "violent racism" did she justify? if you're talking about the riots, explain please.
I dropped out of college after getting half way through and I'm hoping to study marketing this September. Im also 20 years old so if there's anyone out there who feels a bit lost, don't worry everything will fall into place.
Jade you also inspired me to start my own channel.
Ahh Jade inspired me to start my own channel too!
Same with me
@beyondsunrises Alice aw thanks so much that's so kind.
I dropped out of uni when I was 20 too and changed my course! So much happier now - I’ll be doing a video about it soon ☺️
When you open youtube and you have a 20 min jade’s video, a holly video, a ruby video and still another new video from studytube.... what a great day to be alive... and to procastinate on youtube
Jade you have always been the freind I wish I could have in real life. Its always fun to follow someone as passionate to learn and grow personally and professionally. Sending my prayers.
me too, me too
@hammertapping i- have u even watched her video you're the ignorant one at least Jade is doing something to help unlike you. Go check her Instagram if u think she is racist.
@hammertapping what did she say then that "justified violent racism"? All I see is a white girl trying to educate herself on blm and trying to be a better blm ally?
@hammertapping I understand your point, but what did she actually say that "justified violent racism"?
@hammertapping I see your point, but she is not a racist. if she was a racist she wouldn't be so passionate about the current situation and she wouldn't be so desperately trying to help blm charities. Also I agree, blm has come too out of hand. I don't know what country you are from but the protests are becoming way to violent where I am. None of the protesters are wearing facemasks which will extend lockdown further which is selfish for the rest of the country. Black lives do matter anyone would be a fool to argue against that, but I doubt that Jade would be intending to make racist remarks in her videos.
Actually, in Belgium they decided today that this has to be in the curriculum! I'm so glad that my history teacher was so passionate and that he could let us see what terrible things Belgium had done to Congo.
PS im loving all your travel vlogs lately! I found you because I won an DiscoverEU pass this year, and I've been addicted to your videos ever since!! ( even though I should be studying for the exams now :p )
Ahh I got a Discover EU pass last year... honestly, loved interrailing so much. Are you still going to be able to go despite Covid? If you are, I've done a planning video on my channel which you might find useful/ interesting!!
We learned all about it in school, too. I was shocked when I learned today that it isn't actually part of the curriculum, even though it is so important to learn about it
I couldn't believe people in Europe didn't learn about colonialism when I watched this video. I'm from Kenya which was a settler colony of th uk so obviously I've learnt a lot about it from school books and my grand parents.
Explains a lot honestly
@@myriamldnbrg2481 Sadly, a lot of things aren't...
People like you are an excellent example of how amazing & life changing RUclips can be!
I wouldn‘t be here trying to start my own channel if you hadn‘t been so helpful and shown me what it‘s like to be free! Thank you!!!!!
haha I'm the same, Jade inspired me to start a channel!!
Imogen White it‘s amazing how were in the same boat! What’s your channel on?
Chris BL it’s all about my gap year and heading off to university in September.. what about you?? :))
@@ImogenWhite My journey as a Med school applicant in the UK w/ quarantine. :))) How‘s you‘re gap year been going since the pandemic?
@@ChrisBL Oooh that's so cool, have you checked out @journey2med ?? I mean I can't travel as planned which is a shame but I've started RUclips as my little project so I guess that can only be a good thing!!
I love this new "bossy, ready, activist" Jade ! Thank you for all the efforts you made for the movement, it should be normal but you really put a qualitative work in it
I love your approach to the BLM movement. I am certain it is having an impact on your audience. You are a very productive person, If I can have 20% of your drive & focus I’ll be achieving all my goals. lol.
just starting a new direction towards mental clarity (including a complete rethink about my channel) so thanks for your motivating inspiration!
Good luck!
This was really nice insight into what a day as a virtual intern could be like! Especially as I imagine these will be increasingly offered for some time.
Here after Ali Abdaal mentioned you in his video. Like how genuine & humbly motivated you are, & your voice is also very pleasant to listen to 🙂 Best wishes
Hey jade.. i m currently in my junior year in high school and you are such an inspiration for me..love from India 🇮🇳 💖
So proud of your for getting a virtual internship! I have been applying to loads, mostly unsuccessfully, so my summer plans are a little undefined - but that doesn't have to be a bad thing!
I love this! I’m also working this summer, I’m a business interpreter and translator! It’s very fun and all but I feel lonely since I’m the only one of my friends working this summer. Thanks for being a work buddy!
your such an inspiration
That’s such a nice uke! To start you off I’d say keep at the four chords you used for Hallelujah (C, Am, F, G) and practise them in different sequences. Try switching between them quickly and with different strumming patterns to build your skill.
Once you’ve got that down, the chords D (2220) and Em (0432) are really useful to have in a chord progression with G and C chords. And as I’m sure you know keep practising it until it becomes natural!
One little thing too - if you want to use a plectrum, make sure it’s a ukulele feltrum rather than a guitar pick as plastic plectrums can damage the strings! xx
I dont want to commend you for being a decent human but OMG, the amount of research you have done and INCLUDE IN YOUR LIFE. I LOVE YOU. Thank you for being an awesome ass person. Like so many non-black people's activism is SOOOOOO piss poor and performative. YOU ARE DOING SO MUCH not just in your research but also incorporating it into your personal and work life. YOU ARE AN ALLY. THIS IS HOW U USE YOUR PRIVILEGE. If I ever asked a company how they were going to make it easier for black people or poc to travel the world comfortably I would be fired or ignored or worse gaslighted. AND THIS HAS ACTUALLY happened.
Love the ukelele Jade!! You're going to come out of lockdown with SO MANY new skills: a language, an instrument, a completed internship... is there anything you haven't mastered?!! 😂
I love all of Jade's day in the life videos♥♥ really appreciate all the great work💖 사랑해요(i luv U in Korean🇰🇷) xx
*me* sees that Jade posted
*clicks right away*
Lysm!!💕💖
This video is very timely for me because I’ve also just started a new internship/ job at my uni (in the maths department)!
It’s my first job and I’m working from home so it feels a bit strange but I’m learning a lot.
It’s to do with classifying classroom practices in lectures. I actually mentioned Minerva as a could place my manager could reach out to try and broaden this research to online lectures! Many universities will have to adapt to online learning in September and it might be useful to learn from Minerva.
You are doing a lot of wonderful things like learning new skills, exercising, waking up early and sharing it with us which gives people inspiration to do productive stuff that keeps us busy from negativity and the fear from the corona virus .Thank you💕you are amazing and you are doing great, keep going💕💕
You literally motivate me so much to better myself and learn new things.. I really appreciate all that you’ve been doing to support the Blm movement and how real you keep it on your channel❤️🙏🏽
I'd love to do a virtual internship - gotta start looking 😁
Actually you can check this link www.insidesherpa.com you will find some great virtual internships in a variety of fields such as law, tech, software industry and business consulting. Great way to invest your time in something useful! I just started one yesterday and I am actually impressed by how much the tasks are truly challenging and you would learn a lot from them! Good luck 😉
Thanks for showing us your day, so interesting to see what remote internship look like!! It's incredible how you're so productive and how you rise so early while I'm here getting up at 1pm hahaha
Also, thanks for being such a good influence to your followers concerning BLM and inspiring us to educate ourselves and take action! You're doing the best you can, please acknowledge that and don't be upset that you can't do more in this quarantine situation. Sending love
I love how much passion you have for what you do!
I actually just stated learning HTML as a new topic in computer science ~ and a really good website/app that goes through that is khan academy . Hope this helps! Love you jade ! P.s you have a beautiful singing voice !
Came here to mention Khan Academy. It has an Hour of Code just for Creating Webpages.
I’m loving your life-style type videos. Keep em coming!
If you want some ukelele tips and songs here ya go..
The best strumming pattern to learn is DDUUDU (d=down and u=up) as this can be applied to a lot of songs.
Good beginners songs are
- Disney's Lava
-I'm Yours
- Lost boy
-Let it be
These all have four chords and the chord shapes are pretty easy to learn and transfer between
Good luck! Also thank you for inspiring me and making my days 1000 times better with all your vids x
this video not only made me feel so productive, but also made me want to start playing the ukulele! Thank you for everything jade! We love you!!!
i highy recommend 'There's Something in the Water' it's a really good documentary on enviornmental racism !
Omg Jade. I’m taking a Gap Yah! I’m black and I was so inspired by your travel vlogs so when u said that about Australian travel I was so happy!

Loved the video ! And bagging an internship after the first year... good for you sister ! :)
Jade is such an inspiration! 😘 her energy is contagious x
Jade, you have such a beautiful singing voice!!!
Ukulele is so fun to play! It also gives you really good baseline stuff for guitar as well. It’s so nice to see you so happy with it... it’s v infectious joy :)
Jade!!♡♡♡ Oh my! I always get so excited when you upload
Jade I highly recommend getting a clip on ukulele tuner to make tuning it easier for you! That could be why it doesn't sound how you hoped!
You are doing a great job and I am learning so much from your content on social media. I share many of it with my family and friends! Watching your day in the life videos always motivates me to make better use of my time
Jade, you need to watch this show called ANNE WITH AN E it's sooo inspiring and it also covers these topics feminism, racism, education, gender bias, foster care, human rights , beauty standards, sexual harassment, representation,LGBTQ+ rights, health care, acceptance, grief, classism and indigenous history. Also your friend ruby loves it so maybe you should give it a try.
I think the whole world saw it. I agree with you, it is a great serie and the way it tslks about racism in the third season was really well done in my opinion.
ahh i loveee that show
Hey Jade, keep just being yourself! You are already enough and doing enough. And you are allowed to take the pressure of your self. Love watching your vids ☀️🤗
Was so happy to see this as I did work experience in marketing but I only got to do 2 days so I will live through you. It also made me excited for when I get to resume it in the summer!!! Xxx (p.s I know an intern is different from work experience) ❤️
Jade: I can't sing
Also Jade: Sings better than I ever could
Jade ur so inspirational I love u ❤️❤️
i literally love everything about your lifestyle, like it's mad inspiring!!! :)))
Love this video, Jade, and what you are striving to do with the BLM - especially delving into colonialism further and the UK aspects we like to present in a positive light when that's not the case. Amazing work!
Playing the ukulele is honestly so fun and such a good mindful activity! If you’ve got the chords C, G, Am and F then there are so many songs that you can play! And then after that, try just finding songs you like on ‘ukehub’ and pick up new chords as you go :)
Always love your productive day in the life vids! x
Wow jade I loved this video its sooo cool that ur doing an internship. I'm sooo happy for you. Wowwwww u have an amazing singing voice. Can't believe ur learning the ukulele. Love you jade 🥰😊😘
This video was so inspiring! I was watching this at like 2am and it made me want to kick start looking into marketing, so I joined an online certification right then and there 😂
Just a note about what you said about education and the blm movement. Throughout year 7&8 the main focus in history was the civil rights movement and the slave trade. We watched films about it which showed the horrific conditions and were taught a lot about black history. I go to a British secondary school. Just thought I’d say that as in my school we have learnt some of the picture xx
"which is later than I wanted to go to bed, but hey ho." is my new mantra. Love this (and the rest of the video obv)
Jade you should do a video of you reacting to kpop videos! Something really random and new to your feed that only happens once. It would be really fun and interesting to see your reactions. Some popular kpop songs: blackpink- DDU du du DDU/ BTS - boy with luv / Jennie - solo. Blackpink - boombayah/ momoland- boom boom/ twice - fancy. 💗💗💗💗
Everything you do is so inspiring!!
On a real note tho, i have never seen anyone more productive than jadee
great video jade! you're truly making the most of your time
You’re learning korean?? Omg!! Pls do a video on it some dayyyy
What organization was your internship going to be with in Tokyo? I’m a science teacher in the US and I’m very interested in traveling Japan!
yeah i also wanted to know this!
I felt your pain when you said up and down planks 😂😂😂 ❤❤
A tip for the ukulele is to buy a tuner so you can tune it :)
So exicted to watch this ! Always look forward to your videos Jade ❤
For the ukulele I think it’s the same as when I was learning the guitar and for any other instrument. Practice practice practice. The first few chords are hard. But then the more you learn, the faster you learn more because your hands know what they need to do quicker. Just don’t give up. It’s so fun to be able to play an instrument, so keep on going because I know you’ll be able to do this
I can’t believe I’ve never heard you sing before? You’ve got such a charming singing voice
Hey I’m a musician (I play ukulele, piano, and tuba) and if ur looking for pointers I think the biggest things with the uke is make sure it’s tuned well and building finger strength to press the strings down properly. Best of luck! You’re doing great!
Riptide is a nice and easy song to learn as a beginner ukelele player. I love to play the song "Absolutely smitten" by Dodie. She has made a tutorial on RUclips on how to play it. It's slightly more difficult, but such a lovely tune. Also, find out which fingers works best for you to strum. When I started I used my index but then found I preferred my thumb (also sometimes buying a nylon pick can help for strumming patterns that are fast!). Hope this helps🥰
is there anything you can’t do? You rock Jade!!
You have to download the app „ukulele“... it’s perfect to practice playing the ukulele! :) you can look up every chord🙌🏽🥳
loved this video!! could you do a video on internship tips/how you got not only this online internship but the one in Tokyo? that sounded so interesting!
i think it's a partnership between her university and the company or maybe she applied through one app she shared before, an app similar to linkedin
I've played ukulele for about 6 years now so if you have any questions about chords, progressions, finger placements or anything just hmu! 🥰
Ahhh yas saw your video and clicked straight away! :))))
Ooh can’t wait to watch this 💖💖
Ukulele is honestly the best instrument to start out on!! As a student I find I don't have the time or space to play any of my other instruments, but my uke is my favourite study break activity ;)
Love watching your vids! Expecting to see a surfing trip with that ukelele in the next year 😂
Well this has made my day 1000x better , thankyou jade 😁
Loved this video. I think its my favorite vlog u’ve put out
I, as a Scottish high school student, was taught a lot about the British involvement in things like the Atlantic slave trade.
I think that the reason that they don't teach it to younger students is because there is no way it could be censored without actually taking away the important bits. No one is really protesting that we don't teach 7 year olds about how the vikings raped and killed innocent people. We just give them funny hats and wooden swords and let them believe whatever they want.
I'm not saying what I learned was flawless, and I know that it is important that more people learn about it, but at the same time, I wouldn't want children to be taught about the gritty makeup of a slave ship, or would I expect them to understand the ways in which abolition was fought for. It's the same reason I wasn't taught about the Highland clearances until S5; because it's better to learn and comprehend when you are older, than misunderstand when you are younger.
It's simply that when you get old enough here to learn about it, many people have already dropped the subject, so don't learn about it. So yes, perhaps this is something we should teach to younger high schoolers, but the belief that we aren't teaching it at all is a bit untrue.
suggestions for playing the ukulele --> use the app "guitar tuna" to tune your uke as string instruments tend to go out of tune very quickly with consistent use, it's probably a better idea to not try to follow tutorials on how to strum with your fingers or any "well-known" strumming patterns if you aren't too bothered about technique - personally i find that it's better to develop your own style of playing which will happen over time, it's always good to try and play songs you find difficult, fingering skills will grow with muscle memory, which tends to act relatively quickly - don't be afraid to just do a really complicated chord over and over. (i'm self taught so this may not be helpful at all aha) love you jade :)
This was so entertaining loved it!😍
Found you since I actually posted the same video 💕
I'm sorry that the Tokyo internship fell through. That really sounded epic! Although I am sure that what you are doing now will lead to big things too!
“Here’s me without a bra on wearing a rag” 😂😂😂 literally me in all my teams videos meetings 😂

clicked straight away! :)
I bought a copy of 'Why I No Longer Talk To White People About Race' thanks to you - looking forward to reading it 💖I appreciate you talking about BLM again, let's keep the movement going x
Jade! Have u started watching any kdramas? It's a great way to delve into the Korean lifestyle/learn more about Korean culture & history! (and u can pick up alot of korean words haha) ✨
Two tips for the Ukulele: get a good tuner to save your time and effort and the website ukutabs:)
How is your Dutch going? Rlly wondering
You should also read up on some of the more 'controversial' Black Power movements who saw what racism is perpetuated by. To fight against racism is to fight against capitalism. If your discussion of race relationships and history does not include the analysis of capitalism then your view of how systemic racism works is going to fall short every time.
Jade!!! First off, I love you and you have been an absolute inspiration for me! I'm graduating early (this December instead of in the spring of 2021) and then taking a gap year and you have truly been an inspiration through it all! You have given me so much confidence to realize that I can do more than my anxiety tells me so I just wanted to say thank you for everything :) As for my second note, you must check out iTalki! I've been learning languages for years through this amazing platform and currently speak 3 (almost 4) languages and this has been a huge help. Every person I've met and talked to so far has been so sweet, kind and helpful (and affordable!). And even if you don't talk a class, there's a community section where you can talk to other language learners for free and I've made so many friends there. Have an incredible summer sweetie and all my love goes to you 💛
