100% agree. I played the first two a decade ago, loved them but was turned off by Exodus when I heard that it went ooen world. Just tried it first a couple of months ago and was blown away. What an immersive masterpiece!
Steve Blum is Sam’s VO. Prolific English language voice actor. In swtor, and like six or so games a year, every year, since the late nineties. Great video, pleasure to watch!!
Thank you! Don’t get me wrong I really enjoyed his performance, it’s just that I’d been looking for a reason to bring up that show for like forever. I jumped on the opportunity like a hungry hyena
@@thesummerofmark oh I enjoyed it! I’m gonna check out that show! Just wanted to share because if you play other games or watch animated stuff in English you’ve probably heard him many times before :)

I was having so much fun with Exodus until I got to Caspian and was handed a honey-do list. That’s when I realized that the game is very much an RP-G and not an RPG. Still want to finish out Exodus, but it’s taken a backseat. Great video as always, Mark!
Thanks man! I think everyone should play it at least once because. Mainly because games like Exodus will become increasingly rarer as this cursed industry degrades
This video is a blast. The entire channel is a blast. It has that old school vibe that makes me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside. And the clever and funny references - that’s something I’ve been missing since the good old days of LEVEL and N2. Chapeau, Marco, I’m about to replay this game because of you 🫡
Nice, I really loved Exodus and the whole game felt that love and attention was put into every corner. The train segments fun to see all the characters interact. The Pavel 2.0(the guy you pick up at volga) character was my favorite. We didn't get enough of Pavel in Last Light, dude was quite funny.
I couldn't tell you the exact reason, but I feel like this is one of your best videos yet. Something about the pacing and the dry jokes just landed even better than usual :) Seems like I'll be trying to get into the game for the third time now... Wish me luck haha
Love the idea of an apocalyptic adventure where all your guns and gear have a real cobbled-together feel. Although I always considered Metro to be "STALKER Lite", Exodus was probably the first one I had a great time with. Nice retrospective!
The great thing about this series is it just kept getting better and every game has something great about it, like the bear in the 2nd one, the librarians in the first, or the excellent setpieces in exodus. I also dont want to watch this whole thing because I'm on Stalker right now and I know I'll just get hooked in a bad way for so many hours if I play even a little bit. Metro is such a special series. Glad to see you covering it. Seems like a very "you" set of games :)
Such a great video! I loved the Metro world. Burning spider webs never got old. Wish it was less monsters and more humans trying to survive. The coverup about the war and everything else here was great. I would have much preferred espionage and moral questions to horde after horde of monster dogs and such. A good change was they fixed the gas masks a bit and you don't feel like such a limited timer in your head while scouring and exploring the world. Totally forgot about the cannibal group. Man that was a wild level! Great way to change things up a bit.
Thanks Baldy! Hopefully the sequel will address the issues you mentioned. They have a good track record of addressing player feedback so I’m pretty optimistic
Great game! Loved the weapons customization and the way you could field strip an enemy weapon. Really put me in that scavenger mindset, in addition to all the other useful upgrades like the NVGs etc. I hope that there will be a sequel to that, but not with Artyom. Maybe much later? At a time where most of the Moscow population has exited the metro? That would be cool!
In the book the whole reasoning for keeping the metro locked down is so much weirder. It's basically vault tec on crack. Also all the major factions are involved, to the point the stalkers shoot red line civilians at a rally to create an uprising to keep war going. Reading metro 2035 feels like dreaming and doings drugs at the same time
9/10 times a semi-open world like Exodus has is far better than the generic open world most games go for. Few games, like Elden Ring, do it well, and even then, it isn't without it's flaws. The downside of semi-open worlds is there's less to explore, the upside is that it's generally more well crafted and filled with well designed content. Give me more quality rather than quantity.
Hubs are the best way to design game worlds imho. Case in point: Deus Ex and VTMB. And I agree with you. I don’t mind that there’s less to explore as long as the world is well crafted. In fact, I DON’T want full open worlds, I’m fine with hubs and semi open worlds
@@thesummerofmark Agree completely. I also enjoy that hub based, semi-open world games USUALLY run around 30-50 hours, making multiple playthroughs much more tolerable imo. Having to slog through another 70-80 hour playthrough of a HUGE open world game is annoying to me.
The best part about that stupid show is that in its red hot streak of picking the most basic bitch shooting locations in Bucharest [the kind you'll invariably find in "top 10 places to visit in the city" tourist guides your retired parents are reading], it somehow managed to pick a yard from my street for a shitty chase scene. With barking dogs and all the jazz!
Absolutely underrated game. I'd even go as far to say that it's HL2 levels of good
