I'm not a hater of JHUD I think they are both AMAZING TALENTED DIVAS but I've stated this BEFORE Prince's passing that if they ever did a tribute that Fantasia should sing purple rain bcuz she brings/sings out the emotion and true meaning of this song. No matter how many years I come back to this tribute I still feel the same emotion that I did the first time around. She became the song.

She breaks my heart every time she buried her face in that towel. When I saw this last year, I was no good when she did that. I had to get myself together. That's what I love about her, she makes you feel her performances, you get that intimacy with her. She's a conduit of anointing that you can't help but feel. She is contagious and I appreciate it wholeheartedly

Even her pauses are filled with emotional nuances and power. And I love how the guy holding the camera is speaking so much truth. And I love how, her background singers are always showcased and never vocally dumbed down to make her vocals center. They are given the freedom to be their best and you notice how incredible they are too. I love fantasia for just taking me somewhere every time. 😆

Fantasia been singing this song for years, I remember she sang this back in 2005 at the NC State Fair. I love that she and Jhud can sing this amazingly in their own way. I agree with one of the commenters, don't attempt to play these phenomenal woman against each other. They both have their time to shine.

This came from the heart - from the soul - it wasn't an "act." I prefer music from the heart like this; not over-produced perfected sterile music. This woman feels what she sings. My husband, a professional musician also sang Purple Rain at a show the day Prince passed. He hadn't sang or played Purple Rain in over 32 years. It wasn't about him "putting on a show," it was about his love and gratitude for Prince. Fantasia's is the only tribute that came out (besides my husband's) that gives me God Bumps and was not meant to impress. Out of respect for you and Miss Fantasia, I will not blast his youtube video here, but will be happy to point you there if you message me. Thank you for posting.

Fantasia did awesome job. One of the classics for good reason. Prince was my guy though...always imitated, never duplicated “those who try to play me, play themselves!”- Prince. When he sang this at the super bowl.....what!? Still gives me goosebumps when I watch his performance.

Fantasia is the queen of vocal emotion. I sing, but I can't out sing J Hud or Fantasia. But all the living greats, Patti LaBelle Stevie Wonder Chaka Khan Aretha Franklin all requested Fantasia for their living tributes. Because she is the queen of emotion. Jennifer Hudson makes me cry to though. But Fantasia just rearranges my soul when I listen to her. I'm glad that music is in the hands of these two ladies.

Please stop always pitting amazing artist against one another there's room for both divas. Honestly I prefer JHUD tribute , my goal is to connect to Prince's works and gifts and that's what JHUD did for me. God bless Fantasia she has an amazing voice, I would like for her not to compete but just continue to serve her great purpose. AMEN

Fantasia's rendition of Purple Rain brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.
Any singer with a decent amount of talent and skills can sing this song, but not every singer feels it and is capable of delivering that feeling to the audience.
Prince could. Fantasia can...
Prince himself said 'there's something about this song' that sets it apart from pretty much everything else. He never said what it was. Maybe even he didn't know it himself...
Fantasia's delivery together with the killer background vocals may reveal to you what this song IMHO always has been: a Gospel.
