Fantastic presentation as always. A feature I'd love to see: being able to select which of the visible pages should be part of the navigation 👌 that would make its usability much better
Try bookmark navigator instead?
@@LighthouseAnalytix that’s a good alternative that works. The downside is that it takes away the benefit of not having to configure much. The page navigator takes pages by default. Much less clicks if we can select which pages should be part of the navigator 😁
Hi - if you haven't found a way around this yet pls have a look at my last post - seems to work....
@@TheFootyFever This still doesn't work. Do you have a link to your method? Would love to read it!
@@BIGorilla Hey - I'll do a few screenshots and upload them somewhere for you ...
dont know it it was just me or everyone already knew this, but i had to press CTRL when i clicked to get the button to work.
Great video!
Yes while building you have to press CNTL for button action but after you publish it; simple button click will work as it is supposed to be.
Awesome update. I wish if instead of separate button these navigation values could come in a drop down. That will save a ton of space for other visuals.
You can make a navigation dropdown work with a custom table listing the pages... I am pretty sure I saw the trick on this channel and it's amazing!
ruclips.net/video/-kaUnBXvvGo/видео.html found it, here you go mate. And thanks Patrick, amazing videos as usual
When creating the layout you gotta keep in mind the navigator. I discovered about the navigator after my dashboard was already done. I will update next time! It was a great video!
Finally! This looks like an excellent shortcut to achieve what would have taken quite a lot of effort. Interested to see how the buttons auto-scale for more pages.
I think the *NEXT LEVEL* in Power BI is *SECURITY LEVEL* In Page Navigator, we can setup role and set permission to spesific page.
What do you think?
everything looks fantastic, but so rarely security, acess management, roles etc. are seriously presented in youtube... may it is not right place because can be too difficult for 80% of people who do that reports? but - in organizations we cannot avoid security and proper rights of access...
I am also trying the same but some how it's not happening the Page Level and Role level security, in case you have done it please share, very critical
I'm still on Windows 7 (meh!) so can't upgrade to the latest version of Power BI yet, but when I do, this will be one of the 1st things I update. Awesome!
This is a brilliant update! I’ve spent hours colouring and copying to do just this ❤️
Great Video. The navigation looks good in Power BI desktop but in the Service you will still see the pages show up for normal navigation. There needs to be a way for the page navigator button to also work with hidden pages so I can publish the report to the service and hide all the pages.
This would be great if it highlighted buttons and allow drill down to another page, if a field that supports drill down is selected first. I’ve done this with custom buttons and bookmarks for now.
I tried this and it's great. I did spot one thing though, in Mobile view I want a horizontal navigator, in desktop I want it vertical. You can do this by duplicating and hiding, but it would be better if the settings could be applied separately for mobile view. And the same for all settings too would be neat.
OMG 😃
I was waiting for this feature since ages 🤠
Thank you 💞
This is an awesome update and video of showing how to use this feature. Great Job Patrick!
I started using this immediately! Takes sooooo much less effort to create page navigation! However, I wish there was a way to hide the button for the page you're on. For example, if you're on the United States page, I wish there was a way to hide the United States button. It's redundant IMHO. Also, I noticed that sometimes when you navigate to a page, that button isn't highlighted 100% of the time. For instance using your example, if I'm on the United State page and press Texas, the United States button is highlighted on the Texas page, not the Texas button as you would expect. Supwidat?
This update is gold
Pretty Cool Update for the Page navigation. Might be useful for Performance optimization ?Great explanation Patrick :)
Love this feature! Your presentation really helped me as I was putting the finishing touches on my report. Keep up the great work as always!
Hoping that this is a precursor to Page Level security. Would love to limit the ability to view specific pages/have access to certain nav buttons based on something similar to RLS
I'm soooo hoping the same....
This is amazing, been looking for this. Got yourself a happy subscriber here🎉
A-MAY-ZING!!! (two thumbs up!!)
...but can you have sub-folder navigation that may not appear one every page????
Finally "automatic" cover page. Thank you!
Love this new feature, I'll have to go through our old reports and do some updating, but that is so worth it when it comes to the versatility page navigator provides!
Page Navigator is an awesome idea. Thanks for sharing this.
Hi Patrick! This is awesome. Question though: can I just hide selected page from the navitator? I cannot filter on this visual... I do not want to hide page completly, only remove from navigator.
Wow... Power BI is definitely coming up with update...!
Thank you for this video, super helpful. Was able to insert the navigation no problem, but wasn't able to make it take action, when I click on the button they do nothing,.
Excellent update! Going to start using this tomorrow already, tx
Thanks for the video! How do you access the selected page name?
Thanks friend!!
Thank you, Patrick!
That's so useful. I use bookmark overlays to usually do something like this. I think I still will for larger reports but this is cool.
Hey @Guy in a Cube thanks for his class!
Do we need to press ctrl + click to use the buttoms?
very helpful! i just subscribed! i like your voice it's so well modulated and clear!
This is a great feature but I cannot use it yet as it does not include the tab level security. Fingers crossed for another future update to include tab level securities as a feature.
This is so cool, thank you for sharing
This is fantastic! Another top notch and helpful video. Many thanks.
Thank you Patrick for sharing this...I was looking for a functionality like this
Thanks for sharing and explaining this excellent new feature! Is there a way to select which sheets are contained in the navigation page without completely hiding the sheet?
You always have brilliant content for us..🙂 Thanks for it
Hey Kev, great work. Question: what if i have so many pages already and I want to add another one but don't want it to go to the same page navigation bar. I know how to remove it once added, but if so many pages already exist with the same navigation bar, i have to manually remove it from all of them? It would be good if you can choose not to include new page to navigation bar and create separate one? Hope it is clear. Many thanks
Yes! I was manually doing this with buttons, what a pita XD, love the new feature
Awesome as usual. Is there a way to conditionally select the pages to be used in the navigator?
I like it. Is there any way to do sub-page navigation? As in I have three main landing pages let's call them. Point of Sale, Financials, and Rosters. I would like the page navigation on a home tab to only show those three. Then on each of those landing pages, I would have the subpages. e.g. Point of sale would then have. calendar, activities, products, etc.
I was asking that myself as well, hope their will be an option for something like that soon!
Super helpful!
Wish there were button state options for Shapes. For example, with Page Navigation in vertical position on left side of page, Chevron arrow shape pointing left for Default, Hover, Press, but Chevron arrow shape pointing right for the Selected state (or perhaps Rounded Rectangle or other shape). Or when creating a "tab look" across the top or bottom, default, hover, press all have single clip corners shape, but the selected has a double clip corner shape (as well as perhaps different colors for selected vs the other states). Doesn't look like we can do this... please add to next release.
So cool. Thks😊
I wish they would let us choose which bookmarks to include in the new bookmark navigation bar for those of us who have bookmarks on different pages and only want to show the few on the existing page to "toggle through" graphs. C'est la vie.
Should have known you already had this covered! ruclips.net/video/IdXK470YwAQ/видео.html
You can do that by grouping bookmarks in folders, then in the bookmark navigator you can choose which group to use !
This is awesome man! Good job.
FINALLY! Great time saver!
Great stuff but I had branded icons created for page navigation and there's no going back to "normal" now. That will teach me!
Hi Patrick I see the new navbar however this is not allowing me to click and navigate. is there some setting that I've to enable
Amazing update, adding/deleting pages then new nav buttons was a pain
Superb !!!!
why power bi team released this earlier ☹☹
Awesome video! Thanks for the tip.
Great navigator!
But This update we are not able to find format button Action inside drillthrough option please where is it?
Heeey Patrick! How we can ensure that you only we see the page navigator button on the page itself and not on both the page and the left side pane when published?
Love you patrick bro!! you are very cool dude!
Very useful! But would be great to be able to have the page navigator visually as a drop down...is this option available somewhere on the settings? Thank you!!!
thanks a lot! it's great!
2 bugs: with new format pane,Is no more possible to set the bookmark action to a single button ; the deselected status of the bookmark navigator doesn't switch off automatically when an other tab Is selected . These could be Little things but they result in a quite messy output
Probably the most annoying thing I saw the first time I used it :(
@@hificrawl exactly; It forces you to use the old format pane and the old button...
this is very useful! thank you!!!
Yes but then when you publish it how do you hide the page navigation pane so that users only see the the ones that have been created?
Would be great if you could sync across all pages and have hover over effects
Great, But what if you have 30 report pages and want to include only some of them - is there a way to filter? what if I would like to crate navigation page for my all 30 pages? - the visual will look ridiculous.
This is really fantastic and loved it a lot. the only thing that would be helpful is that suppose I have lots of pages in my PBIX file and have to implement the Persona-based navigation then I can not do this as we can not write any DAX for page navigator. Example: I have a single pbix file containing the pages for the finance department and IT department as it belongs to the same dataset. Now, if I want to show the pages in the page navigator based on the user's login (If the finance user logged in then only finance pages should appear in the page navigator and same for IT department). Maybe any future release will add up.
Great video thanks Patrick - do you know if there is a way to edit the pages that show in the navigator? I want to hide my pages so that my report is more App-like but still retain the ability to use hidden pages for some dev work without adding these to the nav menu ...
For the benefit of others I think I have now found the answer .... - you need to place the "always hidden" pages to the right -of the last page you want your users to see - set up your Page Navigator and then goto Format > Grid Layout and select the No of Columns to be equal to the no of pages you only want users to see. Voila!
Do a video on Bookmark Navigator as well Please. Thanks
Hi,When the page navigator is inserted ,it doesnt show link on each page tab so as to go to that respective page - How to activiate the link for it . It means when i click on the page tab in navigator,it is not taking me to respective page.
I have a ton of pages in my report... I would like to be able to set the page navigation to a group of pages. Then create a second page navigation for a second group of pages... is this possible???
Hi GIC. I have one quick question. When you change the text size, or formatting of the buttons, using page navigator, it does not change the one in black? Is there any way to resolve this?
First of all thanks for your tips, your RUclips channel is very useful and inspiring.
I’m on working on power bi, having a challenge. I have 3 huge datasets and I prepared three PBIX files mentioning inventory, warehouse and transport.
Now I want to make a single page a new PBIX from where three buttons will take me to these above three PBIX by clicking each button. Is this possible sir to design ? Do you have such tutorials or any links I can refer.
Regards
Samar
You rock my man
Hi Patrick,I had a question, How do you brought that
Total sales amt by year and month -- x axis, hierarchy has 2021 and 12 month in a bunch instead of jan 2021 ,feb 2021.
If I have to remove the footer page number after implementing the navigation bar how can I do that
I want to show different colors for different tab names. Is it possible?
HI , i have one question, let's see we have 50 or more projects in different sector, then is it possible that first we make a filter by Sector and then in that sector available project will appear and then
navigation for that project can do?? like in below table, there are two sectors, and if i click project & implemention sector then apprear respective projects and from there can do page navigation or etc?
if it possible please make a video that how to do navigation in this case ?
Sector Projects
Projects and Implementation Project A
Data and Decision Support Project B
Projects and Implementation Project C
Projects and Implementation Project D
Projects and Implementation Project E
Data and Decision Support Project F
Hi, can I have this navigator in a dropdown type filter?
I've spent 4h building bookmarks today 👏👏
What if I donw want some of the pages to appear in the navigator? Is there a way to choose the pages I want?
What if we publish that report, will the bottom pages still appear..?
Waiting for this visual to get RLS capabilities!
I created this Page Navigator but it doesn't work when I click on the buttons. I was surprised at how flawlessly it worked with you. Are there any additional steps that I need to take maybe for the button to actually navigate?
SOLVED: If you are checking these navigator on PBI desktop then you need to press ctrl+click on the button. :)
Thanks for the Video!
Hi Patrick, Fantastic presentation, I would like to ask if I have quite a bit pages, is there is an option to create a sub-navigation? so I can maybe have the departments presented and the sub includes their pages ? many thanks in advance :)
Do you know how to customise the font in the page navigator control through JSON? I need to change the font to helvetica - any ideas?
Great Vid! But my page navigation doesn't work... when I click on a page it doesn't take me to that page.. any ideas on how to fix it? thx!
Need help to create Page Level and Role Level security in a single powerbi dashboard. Very critical. its like access to limited pages and limited row based on role
This is really cool but one problem again here that if we want to keep one page as a landing page in the Power BI service and other pages needs to be hidden as we don't want customers to see all the pages approx. 15-20 page report , From the landing page user will navigate to the respective views and pages , Will it work!
Is there a way to get rid of the page tabs at the bottom?
Can we filter those ?
Really great feature. Will definitely try it. Thanks for such nice a video. I have one point can this be done with page level security, what I mean is a report can have many pages but certain people within the department need to have access to only certain pages and a superuser to have access to all pages. So how do we do that with this or is there something coming up in future. This will be really helpful. Currently I could do this using a slicer and rls for Page navigation or using buttons and then use rls to make the button background and button text white for non super user. I hope sooner page level security will come. Thanks Patrick once again for sharing the info and video. Big thumbs up. 👍👍
i was today's old when i discovered this masterpiece thanks
Let's say we have a page with "Sales Summary" but in the page navigation buttons, I should display only "Summary". What I mean is its not necessary to have short names to the pages always in real time. In such cases can we able to rename just buttons but not the page names.
It seems a very usefull feature, I have to try it. Regarding the different button styles, I don't want to be mean, it's nice to have but time spent to develop them would be better used to add a single word wrap option in legends for chart/pie/donut visuals
It Works with Ctrl + Click only at my end. Is there a way to change it single click?
Love your presentations - this one brilliant as always, had a question, what if i had to change pages based on a Year selected or some similar concept i.e without creating a page table and slicers. let me know your thoughts
Drawback in this design is we can't style a nested navigation. There are scenarios where a list of pages should pop-up when we select a group. Eg. Selecting sales group will shows all sales related pages. Any workaround with current update?
How can I hide the top navigation panel on Power BI app like [File, share, export, get insights etc ...]
How do you subscribe to all the navigation tabs If I have kept it hidden?
Hi Patrick, Excellent presentation on the Page Navigator. I'm using this a lot now. It is tricky though to format it the same way every time to get uniformity in my Dashboards. I know I can use a JSON file to apply the settings. But how do I identify the property names of the Page Navigator (or any other visual) that I need to use in my JSON file?
Regards, Jeroen
