It's true, neither car is winning a beauty contest. But here's an interesting tidbit, I was having a conversation with the owner of the GS-F in the video and they were actually cross shopping the Ghibli before making the move on the Lexus.
I actually think the ghibli looks amazing. I want one but I see it get a lot of heat for not being reliable. That particular lexus is not that attractive imo.

The Ghibli is just a lease queen. That car is keeping Maserati afloat of lease deals alone. The GS-F is old school power and I love it. I think personally it looks absolutely stunning, it sounds amazing, and it'll run forever.
On the road the Maserati is a head turner, whereas nobody would bat an eye at the Lexus.
Nice runs, the great thing about lexus is that after doing all the winning and drifting, it's still as reliable as the moment you drove it off the lot. The Maserati is probably breaking down as we speak.

You are absolutely wrong. You must have bad gasoline. I have 3 Maserati cars and they are absolutely trouble-free. I also have 3 Subaru cars, no worse than Lexus, and they break a little. Maserati never. These are my experiences. I write from Europe, maybe there is a difference.

Do you really think people who buy a Maserati are that interested in drag racing? In any case, a Ghibli owner can tune the car and out accelerate the Lexus with its AWD traction if they really wanted to and for comparatively little $$$$.
The Lexus IS a great solid dependable car. Superlative quality with great customer service that gives a great sense of satisfaction. It’s similar to the feeling of making a solid investment. Lexus as a brand however is also ubiquitous and doesn’t appeal to enthusiasts quite as deeply. The Maserati conversely makes every drive seem special and the pride comes from the silly grin that comes from sound, design, passion and exclusivity. It’s a philosophy of wanting to live life to the fullest and accepting it’s not about shut lines and the latest in technology but one where emotion is front and centre. It’s a bit like art, sometimes imperfection can be more beautiful . Ironically, the Japanese have a word for it and philosophy around this concept.
Fact is, People come up to you and want to know more when you drive a Maserati. That never happened to me when I had the Lexus. Where the Maserati was bought with ego, I am humbled to have the opportunity to spread joy in that person talking to you at the gas station eg sound, design, zegna silk interior.
I have owned all manner of high end Lexus, Mercs and now on to my 2nd Maserati. Makes me laugh when people whom have never owned an Italian car, let alone a Maserati, talk about reliability. Modern Maserati’s are fine (as is Alfa Romeo for that matter). Certainly better than a previous Mercedes that was a nightmare. Resale is terrible so either buy 2nd hand or drive a hard deal knowing the hit you are going to take. Kudos to Lexus and the GSF. However, you “arrive” at a hotel and know it gets parked out the front. More importantly, seeing the sheer joy on the face of a 10 year old boy sitting in the front seat with a big grin on his face is priceless.........
My dad used to have 2 maseratis. The more recent quattroporte gts and a last gen quattroporte. Hardly anyone ever came up at a gas station to talk about it. His 488 spider most definitely got attention. You know what car got just as much attention and maybe even more because it was driven more? His LC500. You had ppl turning the necks everytime it went by. And the sound. There is no Maserati outside of the old MC12 that's sounds anywhere near as good. Hell my RC F with an aftermarket exhaust sounds better and gets wayy more attention then a ghibli. No ghibli is getting a front spot over a LC500 or RC F at a hotel or restaurant valet. Most valets know that they are garbage cars lol.

In terms of driver satisfaction and reliability, google the British car magazine Auto Express best cars to own for 2019. Over 18000 owners with cars from brand new to 3 years of age were interviewed. These are people whom live with their car, use their car daily and can really report on how their car stacks up. The Guilia came 3rd with a score of 93. The Lexus IS came 2nd with a score of 93.19. Nothing in it and the Guilia is the better drivers car and arguably the prettier car.

Finally a car reviewer that understands that 100% of races are rolling races on the freeway. You really had to work hard to find a way to make that Lexus faster. I've driven both those cars and literally the only time the Lexus is faster is from a roll in perfect dry conditions. From a light or the second you add non perfect roads, any rain or God forbid snow to the equation and the Ghibli is faster.
That last part is false, my Lexus ISF flies through the snow with no problem. No slips all grips, it’s truly an amazing car.

Ghibli is status over performance, I don’t see ghibli at tracks for a reason. That’s what the GT is for. Also, Maserati doesn’t have much for mods. I have one, you get a shit ton more attention in it. Sounds good, so what if I don’t beat a Z06 or hellcat? The sound and looks I get makes it worth it. For performance, that’s what the Ferrari would be for when I get it.

May I ask why are you shifting gears so fast on the rolling start races (40-130, 50-140)? That's why Maserati lost, because you are changing way too soon and you're not letting the engine get in the right power band. It's an Italian high revving engine, not a V8.
I personally wasn't the one shifting but I trust that there were no short shifts. I also wouldn't call the Ghibli's 6500RPM red line high revving. The Lexus V8 revs higher to around 7300RPM. Regardless, the 60-130 VBOX times at the end were results of letting the cars shift themselves in sport auto modes.

Surprised how well the Maserati held up. By your tests, the GS-F is about 2.5 seconds faster from 60-130mph. The reaction time plays a huge difference.

V8 vs a V6 battle. Not bad at all. The V6 got that high pitch sound with the turbo whistles. That V8 Lexus just sounds pure motor without any forced induction. GSF for the W for me.

I own a Ghibli. Not the 4 wheel drive but a Ghibli S. Fast just doesn't matter with these two as both are SLOW. I have a new ZO6 in the garage that will run circles around these two and just make them look silly. But...the Lexus is dog breath ugly. That wide mouth bass front grill is awful. Not sexy as is the Maserati, doesn't turn heads as does the Maserati and isn't as nice a ride comfort or interior quality. Great for Lexus sales but who want their car riding in front of them, next to them and behind them all of the time. I like the look, colors and singularity of driving a sexy beautiful Italian car. Not an over priced everybody has one Lexus. And if you are speaking about reliability, just get a cup of coffee and take a ride to any Lexus service department and witness the daily grind of these cars failing on a variety of fronts. The reliability is graded on failures divided by the number of units on the road. Very few Maserati's and too many Lexus. Just sayin'

The Lexus is an eyesore. Interior is nice but not special, looks like a modern BMW inside. Ghibli has a cult following of owners that absolutely adore it because it's a more special experience, regardless of the maintenance.

The Ghibli is a beautiful touring car with exquisite leather, that happens to be sporty and have an amazing exhaust note. It’s not a performance car and was never intended to be. You’re missing the entire point of the car. It’s and executive saloon.

@@sonypd9842 If you're looking for a performance car with blistering track times that can win drag races from stop lights, this is not the car for you. There are many better options that are much cheaper as well. If you want a beautiful, elegant daily driver sedan with plenty of sportiness and an amazing exhaust note, I highly recommend it. Stage of life and degree of wealth also change perspectives I might add. If you are younger you would probably want more of a burner and something that has more of a value regarding speed to expense ratio I would imagine.

Thanks! You won't be impressed at all with the Ghibli. Sean had his biases but I went into the car completely neutral and wanted to like it, but at the end of the day, it's a lot of money for very little car. It feels less "Maserati" than the Granturismo. I haven't driven a recent S4 (only an S5) but the Ghibli does handle better than the curb weight suggests. Not good enough to justify all the downfalls though.

My boss sent a coworker and I to test drive one of these mazi's for him, (long story, but we know way more about cars than him). The rati's ride is pretty harsh for what it is, I was surprised. Changing the modes didn't seem to matter that much. It sounds great, so there's that. But the thing's blend doors weren't working, and the AC was blowing warm (I guess it was off lease).
No way was it worth 45K with 40Kish miles on it. It was already broken.

If your racing a Maserati, you are missing the point of “Maserati” it’s automotive Art. A Rolls Royce is a $400,000 BMW 7 series. The Rolls is automotive Art. It represents a certain place in life. Although, I didn’t spend $90,000 for my Ghibli. I don’t have to tell you that. I have spent over $100,000 for my Granturismo. So, “why do you need a Ghibli”it’s like going to the Metropolitan museum in NYC and looking a piece of art and saying I don’t see the point. “Why do you need a Ghibli”? If you have to ask then! ( meant to be a entendre)lol! There are tons of videos on you tube saying “I got my dream car a Maserati” You would be hard pressed to find any that say that about a Lexus” of course unless it’s a LFA.
