in today's video we fix up the micro tiny house! a few things have played a factor. the time of year it was sealed and painted (the wrong temps, even with all the propane heaters we used) and.. when we took the tiny house ice fishing/camping. I will say, I don't regret putting the tiny house on the lake, it was a memory I will NEVER forget, and easily the most wild trip I have ever had. memories were made, and lessons were learned, and that is called... life. LOL it's safe to say I won't be doing that again. come along with me as we repair the damages and get the micro house back to livable/camping shape! xoxo -becca

A contractor (me) here, put a metal roof on. Also put house wrap on the sides then cover the wrap with j channel and siding on the sides to seal it up. That will fix every leak you have. Make sure metal hangs off about 6 inches on sides and about 8 inches off of front and back. If you will buy the material and come to Alabama. I can help put it all on for you. Alot cheaper to do this then keep having to fix leaks. Plywood will eventually rotten out. If it doesn't have metal on top and siding on the sides. I enjoy the videos.

Becca….I am by no means a carpenter or builder but I grew up helping my Dad build all kings of stuff over the years. One of the things he taught when it comes to water. 1 water HAS to be able to go somewhere. For some reason a lot of older school built flat roofs. Guess what they ALWAYS had issues with? Yep…those roofs leak any time it rains. You don’t need a big pitch or angle to have gravity work for you instead of against you. The other thing he would say is you need something waterproof. I’m sure that stuff you used WILL help protect the wood, especially the sides. Water can still just sit on your roof. It will always find the path of least resistance. Eventually you could have issues again since wood is porous. A somewhat cheap option that would greatly help would be to get some sheets of tin roof. Heck you might be able to find used ones on market place. Build up (not very much) one side of the roof with maybe a 2X4. Use that as the “high point” for the angle of your roof line. Water will follow the past of least resistance & run down whatever side is lowest. You can over lap the tin & even apply a waterproof sealant when overlapping. To ensure no leaking between sheets. Keep in mind you will be pulling your tiny home so take in to consideration the wind resistance you will have when pulling the house. Wouldn’t want your new roof to come flying off going down the road…😳 If I were you I would NOT add the higher point on the roof at the front of the house where the wind will be strongest. Maybe has the angle go from right to left or left to right. You won’t typically have side wind to worry about when you travel. Plus the roof would be screwed down. Also look at using water resistant sealing as you drill those bolts in. That ensures no water will drip down i the hole & eventually leak. Again….not a professional builder or carpenter. Just a girl who grew up a Tom boy & spent a lot of time helping her Dad build all kinds of things. I was his gopher. Go for this…go for go for that & of course hold the flash light. 😂. You have already vested so much time & $$$ into making this your own. I want to see it stick around. Think about most wood structures you see that are exposed to the elements year round. Wood faced houses or log homes are hard woods. They are treated to help them stay water resistant. Not water proof. Future thoughts….use the tin roofing to encase the entire outer shell of the structure. (Even the bottom). Then put permanent sleds on the bottom & attach to the house. Then if you want to remove for ice fishing it’s ready to go. Hook your truck onto a few heavy duty eye bolts & slowly pull off the trailer. Eventually buy a wench for the front of the trailer. Then you can use winch the house back onto your trailer & off you go. Use your truck to pull it off & the wench to pull it back on trailer. Just giving ideas for future improvements & to help keep the shack around for a long time. I so want to call it “love shack baby” 😂. Ps….if you do think about making any other improvements or what not….post a video. I’m sure you have viewers with all kinds of suggestions & amazing ideas that I don’t know or would think about. We appreciate you being us long & even maybe taking some of our suggestions. At the end of the day this is all your kiddo. You do what YOU want. Just a 49 year old lady who has learned some valuable life lessons over the year. I’m proud of you & getting in there doing all of this. That’s how we learn & grow. 😁

Hi, Becca: while I'm by no means a carpenter, nor builder; I grew up helping my father build my childhood home, which is standing today. As a woman who is deciding to build her first micro-RV, I have spent two years researching the best ways to build a Micro RV on wheels on a budget. The first thing that I have to do is to look at the trailer and its movement as it is running down the road. If there is too much stress from the shock of the trailer, due to no shock absorbers then the shock will transfer into your tiny house, and it will cause sheer as you have seen. Beefing up your trailer with reinforced shocks will decrease sheer on your tiny home. Another factor that can increase sheer on a tiny home on wheels is towing a trailer without a self-stabilizing sway bar. Becca, you might want to consult with a builder on your next project and ask them about the best way to cross brace the walls and which brackets will work best for further stabilizing the walls and roof of your tiny house project. In my opinion, I didn't see enough cross bracing going on and a lack of cross bracing can also contribute to sheer in the walls. Cross bracing all four upper corners, including lower corners of the house would have helped to also stabilize the walls as well. Building the house on the trailer would have stabilized it even more rather than trying to put it on a set of ski's and winch it up onto the trailer. Building a set of skis on the bottom of your tiny house, only added to the side to side and back and forth swaying motion which only added to the bad sheer factor. Just because you strapped down your tiny home on the trailer doesn't mean that it won't slide around on the trailer, because it will. While OSB board is used as subflooring it isn't a great choice for walls and a roof. I would have went with either treated pine plywood or cedar plywood for the walls and roof and I prefer cedar plywood because it doesn't rot, because cedar is very light and durable, and it smells great. I would have tended to use Tyvek house wrap to wrap the house with and taped it to seal it. Next, I would have decided what kind of siding that I wanted on the outside and applied that. If I had used wood, I would have first stained the wood, then water sealed it with Thompsons clear coat water seal, then used fiberglass cloth to seal and protect it from moisture entering the interior on the walls and roof. I would have tended to either add a slight peak to the roof, or rounded the roof more or angled the roof vertically on one side away from the wind. Becca every time you build a tiny house, you will get better and better at it, it just takes time and practice. Keep up the great work, don't get discouraged and look on RUclips at other builds. Including Amazon which has some great books on building Tiny houses. All my best always.

My vote is to leave the gate it’ll help protect your tiny house. As far as fixing the inside seal the inside again paint and decorate you’re doing good never rush anything do it right the first time so you won’t have to do it a second time. don’t be so hard on yourself.
Life is hard enough. Enjoy the process.

I have a trailer in Florida I visit a few months each year. Best roof repair on it was using reinforced (had fiberlass fibers in it) asphalt, basically a tar. It takes a couple weeks to dry in strong sun, maybe longer where you are. Once dried, you can then cover with silicon "cool white" roof coating, or a darker color if desired for up north. Been 5 years since we did that, even over some rusted parts in roof metal, and still NO problems. Tape will eventually come loose, the asphalt never does.

That's how mine is, its about 5 ft 3 wide and 12 ft long. on 4x4 runners, sitting on a 6 ft x 14 ft trailer with gate like yours . built the floor stupid heavy ( at least 600 lbs ) and walls lighter so i could drag it around my land without worry of being top heavy with a 4 wheeler or truck or winch it up on my trailers and take it camping to where ever it my be. River, camp ground, deer hunting, if you got the truck to pull the load and 4 wheel drive you can take it just about anywhere.

If I were to build a tiny house like this, I would build it like over the cab camper where the walls are over the side rails of the trailer so you can use camper jacks to remove the tiny house so you can use the trailer to haul other stuff then jack the house back up and roll the trailer back under it. As for the heater, I would install the same type of heater that teardrop trailers use that way you don't have to worry about CO2.

Because of the way OSB or wafer board is made it is almost impossible to seal it. The cheapest solution to your problem is a rubber roof. You might be able to get a remnant big enough to cover that small area. Another solution would be fiberglass or poor man's fiberglass. There is a lot of information on these. I hope this helps.

A dark color would be good IMO, but not blue... maybe a dark slate/grey? As for the gate, i think it should stay, more for safety than anything else. Makes it harder for anyone to get in or for it to slide off (if that's even possible), it will also be needed to slide it into the ice again won't it? But what do i know, I'm just a dingy chick who would LOVE to do what you are doing! I get that New England weather... i grew up in NJ, and i do miss it at times. I like your gate for safety. I am surprised you didn’t trim out the seams. Then you could chalk the trim. It would have been better to turn the plywood the other direction so that the seems we’re running vertical, live and learn, lol.
    Hopefully, your fix will work!!

I was reading all the comments to see if anyone had suggested the same thing. Something simple as 1x4 painted could trim out all the tape areas and like Stacy said you can chalk the trim.

I was worried about being locked in my Homemade Camper Home years ago so I Put An Escape Hatch Roof Vent just to feel Safer....Standard Roof Vents are built Square 14" x 14".
    I Just Cut My Hole Wider to fit - 14" x 21" !
It Had An Emergency Release that would Allow Me To Climb Right Out Of The Vent Onto The Roof And Always Able To Get Out. Just An Idea For You To Be Aware Of

I'd slant it in a small angle to help water leave the roof, cut small corner top of roof install small pvc pipe like a gutter piece install it at cut off area.
Should have primer the tape first.

I would put a 3 inch piece of trim on the one side of the roof and grade down with even some plastic roofing, whatever is cheapest. And also with the tape on the sides, maybe do a piece of trim the same height along there? Make it look intentional lol. May or may not be cheaper than the paint Idk.

Sup Becca, maintenance lol, your becoming a pro👍, I have a full torch but might burn house down lol, after dries there is a cheaper black rubberized roofing, gallons, but once dry might want to roll a coat on roof? Glad your careful, it's the small falls that can ruin life, fell off three family roof and walked away, fell out of 16-30' treestands walked away, fell off a 6' ladder changing ceiling tile and crippled lol🤷, always be careful. Maybe when take house out do a weekend? Either way be cool, was that short?🤷🤣, tyvm tc 🎣

Ok just wanted to say you're getting it done so that's good. Osb not good specially for outdoor stuff like that, stick to real plywood and or metal. MPersonally I would have used truck bedliner or maybe pond liner for sealing but hopefully that stuff works.

Learn from your choices. Perhaps choose not let your friends make bad choices like dumping your property off onto the ice on a frozen lake. I think that is what caused your damage on your home. Perhaps you should attach it to the trailer to make it permanent. I hope this extra repairs fixes the leaking. Ask your friends from the lake to help you repair your home.
I hope you don’t get mold inside.
Your tiny home has lots of promise.
Unless I’m wrong it appears you only have it strapped to the trailer. That doesn’t look safe and when you remove that gate what holds it on your on the trailer while you’re traveling? Straps aren’t a permanent fix.

Don't sealed by th es inside, because you only trapped water in the wood. Next time for the roof, use marine epoxy paint. The tape you have put it's was wrongly put, if you have water problems in the future you will be removed part and repaired with the retaped and heat up this time.
