I'm 56, so I'm wondering why I can't throw the same as I could when I was 26 or even 36? Particularly in longer format games. Is that common or is it just me?

Some players don't peak until they are 50, like Adams, Anderson, Wright, Duzza, ect, but after this, they seem to have peaked. We have only every one world champion over 54, and that was Wayn Warren, and his game dropped dramatically soon after. As you get older, your hand-eye coordination declines steadily, your concentration levels reduce, and you become less supple. It's gets harder and harder. I play with loads of elderly dart players, and I find they can still play brilliantly, but they become a bit less consistent every year. It's a harsh reality, but it comes to us all.
Martin Adams is a prime example of this if you watch the Modus league.
Try to play regularly for shoter periods of time can help. When you need a brake, take five. Manage your practice and listen to your body. You can still play grate darts well into your 70s, but it does get harder.
I take my hat off to anyone who throws a 65+ average, when over 60 years old on a regular basis. Good luck, buddy. 👍
