Congratulations on a really nice combination! That Maverick, especially in that colour, is sweet. One word of advice re: Ecoboost engines........... keep the oil changed in it. Towing that trailer, your turbos are going to be spooling up quite a bit, which will affect gas mileage and will put extra strain on the motor oil. Happy Camping!

That is a pretty lil truck, I agree with you I think the engineers go conservative on those ratings, I mistakenly loaded my 2.7 Ecoboost with 2,200 lbs of engineered flooring, think it’s rated about 1,500 or a lil more payload, unloading I thought that’s a lot of fake wood on there and yep I was way overloaded, I’m glad the engineers take into account there’s people like me, don’t read the manual and bad at math😂🤣, I’m thinking Maverick soon to be 60 and ain’t as limber as I use to be. Enjoyed the video!👍👍👍
Hey we're humans! Nothing in this world can be sold without precautions. Companies try and lawsuits follow lol, Maverick is great. Highly recommend due to it's versatility.
Weight ratings have many aspects and there are many reasons why the rating is the way it is. Consider GVWR and climbing grades, not just driving around on flat land. Braking, engine braking, engine heat, transmission heat, even differential heat. Then consider how controllable the vehicle is, is it up to truly safe handling with the weight you've put on it? Even if you don't snap an axle with overloading, how does it affect the springs and handling, and how does it affect the springs and their longevity? Why the ratings should be followed modern trucks is the vulnerable high performance motors used. Big NA motors can take a lot of heavy loading to the engine without any problems whatsoever, but high compression/boosted motors are vulnerable to lugging and hurting themselves with too much load. Especially small displacement ones. Overloading an old fashioned, low rev, low compression motor from years back was relatively safe because the motor was tougher than hell. Overloading a modern motor is far more dangerous. The towing/weight handling capability of the Ecoboost isn't in the motors power, that is a myth. It is in the modern electric control transmissions and their many gears. The Crown Victoria shown in the video has the same tow rating capacity as the Maverick, and yet consider that the old four speed automatic and final drive of that car compared to the Maverick and you will find that the Maverick still has a lower gear in THIRD gear than the Crown Vic has in FIRST. The 2 liter isn't that gutsy, and it is fragile. What that "truck' has is incredible mechanical advantage from super low gears, and many gears. The fragile motor relies on the low gearing to protect it from overloading. Any modern turbo gas truck motor would literally shred itself into ribbons if you hooked them up to classic truck transmissions, like the AOD family in the Crown Vic, or a three speed classic like the C6. If it had to pull with higher gears, the motor would be under dangerous load and hurt itself. Keep this in mind when overloading your modern truck. You have a powerful, yet fragile motor. Even if you have the confidence of power (mostly due to gears) that doesn't mean the other factors in how hard a motor can be loaded and pulled magically are absent. If you don't respect that machine, you will kill it.
@kingduckford again not overloaded per the manufacturer of the vehicle. And unless you've been in the driver seat how could you know how it drives? Well within its capability.
@@unorthodoxridez I'm referring to those who DO get away with overloading, like the OP of the response to your video. Overloading trucks, especially US half tons, is an old part of US truck tradition and culture. It also has a long history of burst tires, busted axles, burn transmissions and clutches, lugged and killed motors, and wrecked trucks. Getting away with overloading every once and a while, driving smart at low speeds on easy grades, is something many people have gotten away with, but others have not. 4,000 pounds for that Maverick is a healthy and smart rating. It isn't underrated by a single pound. For the aforementioned reasons. That Crown Vic is almost more truck than that Maverick.
@@kingduckford okay I understand now however that Vic is geared so low It can barely do a burnout even being a p71. Not to mention the department cheaped out and it has an open rear end. Plus the wheel horsepower of that Vic and torque even brand new is pretty terrible The only reason that it's more truck traditionally is that it has two frame rails which doesn't do a whole lot with a coil spring 4 link rear end.
Weight wise you're perfectly fine, but wind resistance, well, that's a whole other issue. V6 is still more efficient at towing or a bigger 4 cylinder ecoboost engine.
Did you build you truck with the 4k pkg ? Because what’s included with the 4k is a larger trans , tow hooks and of course the 4k tow capacity. So I’m curious why your Maverick doesn’t show any of the things it comes with ! I have a maxed out Lariat 36k I did not build my truck with the FX pkg that comes with all the things I mentioned. Just curious how you just got the 4k installed without the entire pkg .. 🤔
The 4K does not come with the tow hooks and the transmission is the same just has a larger cooler and a different final drive gear ratio I believe. Tow hooks are for FX4.

Had a bunch of wind the day I towed it, wasn't terrible.
Towing the caravan at UK specs is 21.25mpg. 42mpg motorway.
US Gallon is smaller..
128fluid oz to 160fluid oz
Ok thank you for the information. I'm not sure I follow but I'll take it.
that's a huge camper for a small truck .. nice , how's the mpg when tow?
15 Mpg
I'm looking at same setup, but my only concern is the tongue weight I belive my camper hitch weight it 425 lbs. I'm not sure if that'll be an issue
Should be ok imo
I’m impressed with the trailer that thing is huge and only 2820 unloaded ?
Thank you, yes sir that is correct
What are those tow mirrors you use. About to start towing my 20ft
Don't buy them lol. They don't hold up, definitely look for a clamp on beam style if you can.
What tow mirrors are those. Have they worked ok?
They were just eBay specials. Honestly they worked great at first but when the straps stretch you continually have to tighten them.
Also,did you have airbags installed?
No air bags. Seems to handle it fine
How long is your camper? My Springdale mini camper is 17.5 feet,no slider and weighs 3500 lbs unloaded.
22' long.
@@unorthodoxridez wow, your camper is 6 feet longer and 600 lbs lighter than mine! Wanna trade? Lol
@@timdaoust4284 trust me yours is probably built better
What air filter do you mean?
Green filter
Gee. I didn't think Ford Mavericks actually existed. Here in Idaho, I have not seen a single one.
Oh they're around
I sure am jealous of you gas economy. My Maverick with ecoboost has never done better than 22, and that is empty. I have the basic Maverick but do have the factory hitch. I have no idea what I can pull
You can pull 2000 lb do you have an all-wheel drive?
@@unorthodoxridez Thanks for the reply. Yes, I do have all-wheel drive, but not the brake controller you mentioned.
No prob at all. 2000lb for you, and strongly recommend the green filter and using eco mode whenever possible to save $
@@unorthodoxridez Thanks again, I need all the help I can get. Could you tell me what the green filter is?
Do you think the maverick could handle it without trailer brakes
I wouldn't recommend it but I think it is possible.
@@unorthodoxridez alright thanks for the fast response
@@ethanguidry312 not a problem, everytime I get a notification I try to respond as fast as I can
The cvt is probably gonna die on you if you tow a lot. Recommend selling it before the warranty runs out. Id get a tacoma if you plan on towing a lot.
It's a very good thing that my truck doesn't have a CVT then!
This doesn't have a CVT but okay

I deleted my comments, but I hope if you blow some part of the drive train you come back and tell everyone. I've only been working on cars for 40 plus years, so I could be wrong, it could all be fine.
Oh we will. In the mean time, have a nice rest of your week.
Cool setup! I've thought about the hybrid Mav if I can find a sub 2000lb travel trailer. The ALiner Ascape ST is 1650lb and would work for me. It's hard to find real world reviews of people who frequently tow with the hybrid Mav.
Thanks and yeah there's the a liner and I also know of a couple Subarus that tow scamps which are pretty big inside! Good news is We ordered a hybrid with a trailer hitch as well and it's scheduled to be built in June of this year! And I plan to tow what I can with it frequently! So there will be more content
@@unorthodoxridez Cool! Subscribed. Yeah the Scamp is my idea of perfect except I'm too tall.
Thanks! Picking up a go pro hero 11 so my video quality will be less cell phone like. And yeah definitely a ducking operation lol.
Got my 2023 Maverick Hybrid with the factory hitch. Just got a 4 to 7 pin converter and brake controller installed. Hauling my 2,000lbs pop up tent camper with no issues at all.
Nice! They're great trucks
Can u go uphill with this
Haven't went up any hills yet, we'll be going out camping this weekend. We'll have some videos on that experience.
Went uphill just fine! Video to come
Turn down for what
Oh yeah!
The truck is to small for the trailer ? ,maybe a teardrop trailer or an aliner !
It's perfectly capable
the camper is well under the ratings of the maverick! What are you talking about? lol.
I did not get the tow package. I kind of regret it.
I figured for 700 some bucks, at the time it was worth it.
this is just advice,,, you should not be pulling a trailer at 75 mph without a sway control hitch,, search youtube for videos of people going too fast pulling campers/trailers, i won't do over 65 with either of my trailers,, i just don't want to see you and yours hurt,
I don't plan on going over 65
In my opinion you shouldn't pull any trailer at 70 mph
@@unorthodoxridez yup,
@@unorthodoxridez oh,, i thought you said you were doing 75mph ?? that must have been on your way to get the trailer,, my bad,, i sit corrected , if that's what you said or meant, my apologies kind sir
@@woofman4796 no problem at all, yeah that was going unloaded LOL.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. There are other reasons for that tow rating besides power. I wish you and everyone driving behind you the best of luck.
Thank you for your kindness
Stay tuned for updates
Also it's under the rating even fully loaded.
I've seen conflicting numbers. What is the actual rating?
@@matthewheinecke2621 4000lbs for the 4k tow
Info for ya... it's a trailer not a camper
Well if you're being critical it's a travel trailer per KZ.
Good idea....pay $150k for a crappy truck and trailer....in this depressionary Obiden economy! Wonderful!!!!
Under 45k brotatochip 😘
