I like this channel's philosophy "if you're practicing stuff you're good at, you're not practicing". I also like how you actually SHOW the process including the mess-ups when other drummers on RUclips just show their best performances 100% of the time. This is very important for learning students like me because I can actually say, "hey, even my teacher is messing up learning this stuff, so it's no biggie if I mess up"
Bro. Respect for the struggle. I battle through learning grooves the same way and occasionally have a violent outburst of frustration. Haha! Love the Grind.
Brandon. I'm also Brandon, Julian is my sons name. After 20 some yrs of elite bass and guitar playing with intermediate drum skills. I've been working hard on my drum skills, and you are really helping a ton. More than anyone. Thank you You are my new go to. And we share a name so. I support all Brandons esp awesome ones.
Wow... what to practise is some of thebest lessons inthe youtube. The main thing i understood is that nobody is born as a good drummer. Its consistant practise and knowledge. Love from india.
Thanks! I love sharing these things that I'm learning. Making these videos keeps me on my toes to keep practicing as well so it works for everybody! :D Thanks for watching Barret.
Love it! The "What to practice" series is a really cool concept, and you are creative and structured in the way you tackle different musical issues/problems/challenges :-) Giving me ideas of how and what to practice myself ;-) Keep it up man, can't wait for the next one!
Thanks Nikolai! That's the idea I had with it! Rather than make a "Lesson" on something I JUST learned... It seems much more natural and organic to just show the process of learning these new things. Thanks for watching!
@@BrandonScottDrums Yes, often it's often more interesting to see the process, rather than just the finished product, especially with good drummers like yourself, to see how to spend ones time in the shed and work on a concept until it sounds dope ;-) I enjoy your series, will keep watching!
I enjoy the whole process...the whole video from end to end. Not only am I learning how another proficient drummer learns, I get to see the inquiry, investigation, practice and application of it all. Your videos have DRASTICALLY improved my playing. Thank you 🙏❤️
Thank you for showing everything, mistakes and all. This is the reality that all drummers like me need to see. Because this is how we all get better, by making mistakes. Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes progress. Please keep doing these types of videos. Looking forward to more.
I actually love showing that side of drumming. We're all so used to seeing the perfect end result and ignore the fact that an hour ago you were failing miserably before finally nailing that last instagram clip. We all suck at something in the beginning and rather than teaching a lesson maybe people can actually learn more from watching my mistakes. Thanks for watching!
Woah dude, hell yeah. Been following your channel since not a lot of time, but I love those excercices and concept. Makes me want to practice more and become a better drummer. Definitely subscribing.
Hi Brandon, My name is Asier, i´m Spanish, I play drums since I was 14 and i really like how you play, record and edit your videos, is really amazing, I sometimes try to edit my drum videos too, I wish at some point I will be able to make and play drums as you do. Congrats!
I have been using this approach and I find that it works hella well with the King Kong pattern (cinqillo in Afro-Cuban) and its inversions. King Kong: xoxx oxxo, inversion 1: xxox xoxo, 2: xxox oxxo, etc. and then do the inversions with no downbeat (start on the o). Love the channel!
Bro I just found you and yes!! I'm so glad. I love your personality and you are around the same age as me so I can really relate. Love the drum info and insight brother!!
Implementing this type of thinking, and optimization into your composition will take you from pro status to legend status lol. Keep it up man. Love this stuff and I apply these same concepts to guitar. I'm going to be making a video about it actually!
YES! That's great man! You can definitely apply these practice concepts to other instruments. Make that video brother! Glad I could help spread the inspiration!
Bro you are so good at this! 😂 Ever since coming across that Quarantine Ghost Note lesson this has become one of my favourite channels for adding things to my list of what to practise. Mega original content and an original way of going about the lessons as well. I can’t do what you’re doing and figure things out on the go off the top of my head though, I have to have the notation in front of me. Makes it easier to follow along what’s happening in my brain vs what happening in reality on the kit 😂
Great videos, man. I do have one suggestion, though. How about you put the notation to all of the excercises in the description in a downloadable format? I'm sure many of us would love it. :)
Hahaha love the plug at the end there... I'm no expert at jazzy patterns so this may actually be a great idea. I'll check out some stuff! Thanks for the suggestion Alessandro!
@@BrandonScottDrums Also, the Gary Chaffee book Time functioning patterns has a lot of stuff, both concepts for jazz and back beat grooves/independence :-)
What's the cymbal next to the ride? Is it a Dark/Dry crash only, or paired with something else (hats)? I can't tell and I can't find a clip where you play it!!!
Hey Brandon I got an exercise for you to try out, just do a basic four cont on the hi-hat, and then move all of the hi-hat notes one sixteenth note over
Dude I absolutely love your content. Please consider listening to King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Especially their record revolving around polyrhythmic stuff called ‘Polygondwanaland’. Enjoy :) And you earned a sub!

I actually whipped it out at the cover gig the other night... Nobody noticed. but I thought it was cool af.
The 80/20 Drummer 🔥🔥
Never stop with these series! I love them man!:)
Glad you like them! Thanks Gustav!

Quickly becoming my favorite channel, and this might be my favorite video. I dig your dual-Brandon success at the end. Proud of you man.

Brandon, this series is an awesome concept. Really inspiring and useful! Hope you keep them coming!
This series of videos puts me in a k hole on the set lol I spend hours and hours on these exercises
Love the screw ups man. Really do. Subbed and liked.
You are the best teacher till date ❤️
That was awesome! Got some stuff to practice now :)
That's the point! Glad I could help. :) Thanks for watching!
Flat out love this vid! The feeling of stress you mentioned at the end....HAHA! God that resonated w/ me. Excellent.
Dude, i love your videos. This one was great!
Great stuff man, it made me want to work on 5-7 groupings. Also, the video concept is great: fun and very relatable.

Just watched a 5 min ad for you :)
Keep saving for more cymbals!
HAHAHA YOU ARE AMAZING! XD This is quite possibly the best comment ever. Thanks for that. and thanks for watching... (The ad, and my video) :)
Awesome lesson!

I remember the first time I study the Samba rhythm, my reaction is just like you. Keep it up man. 🤘👊
Awesome lesson..I love it. So powerfull 💪💪
Love your vids Brandon.
Exellent ! Go on
That was awesome
You're awesome for watching. Thanks!
Man! I always say "putamadre" out loud every time I´m in something new like this kind of stuff jajaja. Killing videos!!!
Hahaha thanks Erick. We all feel the pain of practicing new things. haha
Good work man!
Thanks Andrew!
good stuff!
dude, thanks for this!
Reminds me Aja by Steely Dan at the end
Love your contents!
Thanks Jun!
Can someone explain me the relationship between counting 5 and the accents on the 1 and 3 and 4 and the ride pattern?
Good shit, Bro.
only now I realize that X-XX- over a full bar is the cascara pattern!
What about a video on jazzy patterns? From the jim chapin book maybe...just maybe (....you're gonna be the one that saves me)
Hahaha love the plug at the end there... I'm no expert at jazzy patterns so this may actually be a great idea. I'll check out some stuff! Thanks for the suggestion Alessandro!

Reminds me of Johnny Geigers sk8 vids. 👍
Yo dude love these videos man! Any chance of getting the notation for these and what programe do you use to create the notation?
Please provide the sheet music for the same !!!
Awesome content as always.
Was this all in one session?
Keep up the great work
Thank you! Yeah, it was about a 3 hour session in total. I really should make shorter vids haha
Learning Latin patterns is a good way to expand your ride vocab.
muy bueno el momento " doble" ¡¡
Keep making these videos!!

I love that exercise! I try my best to do displacement exercises with every limb. Great practice for hearing those "e's" and "a's"
Subscribed now great ideas
You're the man. Thanks for Watching and Subscribing!
Could anyone kindly point out which ride is Brandon playing these grooves on?
Thumbs up!
Impressive.. very nice. Now lets hear what you really say when you make mistakes
4:20 are those ghost notes "automatic" or are you playing them intentionally?

What a nice kid . High 7/5
“I’m gonna try to keep this one short and sweet” and the video is 14 minutes long 😂 seriously good quality though, keep it up!!

Nice to know other people drive themselves nuts like this too.
