Hey I have the exact same thing, tried eve multiple times for over 5 years but never got to understand what I was doing and gave up, now I am 4th day in a row and starting to get the hang of it mostly because these videos as well
There's an even safer way to do the sites for some of them, in the vast, bountiful, instrumental and vital reservoirs, the main gas cloud is large enough that you can set a bookmark 300km from where the rats spawn (in the middle of the site, where you warp in) and still be in range of the gas cloud, you'll be able to huff in peace without the rats even aggroing on you.
Hey Benzie, I just want to share my short funny story about how you get me back to EVE. I started playing EVE back in 2007 and had a lot of fun back then. While becomming a family father a couple of years later my EVE carrier got into hibernation. Around the last months I was thinking about looking into EVE again and started to watch some YT content about all the new stuff going on. By that I stumbled over this video here about gas huffing in J space and I was instantly sucked into New Eden again and into you EVE videos aswell :D. I then logged in again, get my self a prospect and jumped into the first hole I could find. Nice and easy getting my first gas huffed just like you explained. A couple of WH's later I jumped into a C3 full of juicy gas. By the time my cargo hold was stuffed I warped back to my bookmarked "freaking exit" :D I realized that someone collapsed the way back home. There I was, stuck in J space just like you said a thousand times in your wormhole101. I got in contact with the guys of EVE Scout Rescue to get me out of there. BTW, big shoutout to these guys, they are doing such a great job out there. While I was waiting for the rescue force to arrive I got a message from someone who was obviously living in this C3. He carried me out of the WH and even invited me to live with them in there WH. Now, who could have guessed it, I'm now living a J space life and having a lot of fun with this guys. All this happens because of your awesome and hilarious videos about all the great opportunities in EVE online. Thank you Benzie for getting me back into the rabbit hole, fly save and see you in New Eden o7

I just now realized that both Warp Core Optimizers and Inertial Stabilizers negatively impact signature radius. Well, damn... there go my old fittings (only really used them in high sec previously). As such, I made a new fit that compares favorably with the one featured here in a few ways: - sub 3s align time from stationary; - is a lot harder to scan down by probes (22,74 sensor strength for me); - has a warp stabilizer that can mitigate one basic scram; - is faster by 26,4m/s before activating the AB (2785,8 m/s max speed with AB for me). Downsides: - no shield resistance bonuses; - 42% worse targeting range and scan resolution (it still has 543 mm of resolution, so I don't see this as an actual problem); - only 58s of cap (without the warp stab) - this is probably the main downside but, with nearly 2,79km/s (i.e. over 10k km/h), it should be able to speed tank just fine with the booster only being used occasionally (without the booster/stab it's cap stable at 42% for me, so it should recharge quickly if some care is taken). Mind you, I do have most of the relevant skills maxed out, so this fit may not be useful to you if you don't, as it's very tight (0.7 power grid to spare). Here's the fit: [Prospect, WH Gas Huffing] Damage Control II Nanofiber Internal Structure II Micro Auxiliary Power Core II 'Halcyon' Core Equalizer I Sensor Booster II Small Clarity Ward Enduring Shield Booster 10MN Afterburner II Covert Ops Cloaking Device II Gas Cloud Scoop II Gas Cloud Scoop II Small Auxiliary Thrusters II Small Polycarbon Engine Housing II ECCM Script x1 If you don't use a separate ship for scanning, feel free to replace the Small Auxiliary Thrusters II with a Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I (sadly the T2 version doesn't quite fit). Likewise, if you absolutely want to be cap stable, you could always replace the shield booster with a Small Azeotropic Restrained Shield that doesn't impact your sig radius while giving you a passive shield regen of 8 hp/s and 5110 ehp. Truth be told, in terms of damage mitigation, Benzie's fit is far superior, but I feel that making it harder for gankers to scan you down, having
Nice to see you play with the fit! I should say that most gankers, especially in J-Space, won't scan you down. They'll scan the sites (if they're not already bookmarked) and will D-Scan to see which one you're in. You'll find that most gankers warping in will struggle because they don't want to fight the Sleepers, and can't move to you cloaked due to the gas. As such, align time is kinda all that actually matters for survival! 😅
@@captainbenzie That's quite interesting information, cap'n! If that's the case, said ganker won't drop on top of the ship - hence giving us plenty of time to gtfo. If only Inertial Stabilizers wouldn't bloom the sig. >.>
If you r really good at it project discovery gives you ~200k every minute 200k*60=12 million and u can do this while mining or warping so it's basically free money Edit: Unfortunately, devs saw this and you can only submit some every day. But still a lot of money
started eve 2months back, im in null corp and i easily gain 500mil a day semi-afk huffing myko gas for few hours, sometimes around 800mil if i get a Lime Myko gas site, two ventures with syndicate gas scoops, I tried WH gas huffing but realized WH gas ain't giving much isk + it can't be played semi-afk.. I just keep eye on local and do my office work while huffing in null.. I'm happy I found gas huffing so early in the game, I was just trying it out with a corp mate and i loved it since.. suits well to my semi-afk playstyle..
If I wanted to play EVE and live the most boring life possible, I would live in Null. Then I wouldn't even play, how is it fun for you just sitting there doing nothing? If you're making 500/mill afk it's either because you have a shit ton of alts or you're literally sitting there for hours and hours every single day. Either way you're response has nothing to do with this video since you WILL make more in wh then null.
A venture is not fast enough to Jedi Huff, but can be used for gas huffing if you ninja huff, basically warp in, watch for the rat spawn then flee THE SECOND they spawn.
@@captainbenzie Thank you for that. I am a new player to EVE online and just did my first gas huff run today, learned from your tutorials about J space and Ninja huffing.
@@captainbenzie some can roll wh close! :) and if it is big enough AU you won't even see it coming even when use D-scan. Scan is a thing, esp. when Venture cargo holds expensive gas :D
Just so you know the aggro range of the sleepers is about 250km range. SO since the cloud is so big you can burn to the outer edge of it and huff outta aggro range. You legit don't even have to move.
I'm having an issue with my setup, fitting is exactly the same as this one in the video except i put 2x small poly engine housing II instead of small poly engine housing I. My problem is when i orbit a gas cloud (or ore or anything else) my ship does not stay within the 1500m range if my afterburner is on, seems it cannot turn fast enough to stay that close unless i turn off the afterburner (which leases me slow and vulnerable) Maybe my evasive maneuvering skill is too low? its only lvl 2 atm. also my base speed is 539.4 not 554.4 like in the vid
New player (~1 month). Tired of shooting rocks. Saved up to buy another Venture, equipped it and scanned down my first wormhole. Entered J101757. Did a save spot, warped and created a safe spot. Had a terrible time scanning down things. I suspect that is due to low skills. Eventually I came across "WVE-528 Ordinary Perimeter Reservoir Gas site" in the Probe Scanner window, which may be something always there. Unsure. Got excited. Warped to site. Got blasted to bits almost as soon as I exited warp by "Vigilant Sentry Towers". To prevent other newbies who watch this and try it out it may be worthwhile to mention some safety. It will take me 5hrs of asteroid shooting to afford another Venture to try gas in. Still haven't huffed my first gas. Ordinary Perimeter Reservoir Made SAFE!!
@@captainbenzie LOL! Well it will not be a mistake I make twice. Any suggestions about how to start gas huffing as Alpha with Venture. Do I just scan down other unknown anomalies that are not one of the labeled Ordinary Perimeter Reservoir. Are those the only ones with sentries? Do the ones without sentries with the 15min timer before the rats come despawn or do the rats stay? I died with only a capsule. I warped to the exit but the wormhole didn't seem to let me interact with it anymore. It was there but no interaction. If you die in a wormhole do you have to self destruct?
i lived in a C3 for about 4 days mined for about 12hours each day.. i think as a newbie alpha with minmal skills i was doing 20-30mil depending on if it was C3 or C5 gas
if youre not in danger of being killed by anyone. you really should use the T1 gas scoops. T2 gives you residue. the T1's do not. this means while yes the T2 are faster. you dont get as much isk from them.
You only need to initiate warp to a gas site for the timer to start for the sleepers. You don't need to actually warp to it. Might throw some people off and make them wonder why npc's are there if they did that and only thought you had to actually warp to the site.
This is false, as if you manage to warp and stay cloaked the rats will never spawn. It's only once you are decloaked on grid, if rats spawned it means someone else has warped there, rats also very random with times up to 30 mins and as little as 14 minutes.
@@umadbroimatroll7918 I've never tried it with cloak enabled. But we do it all the time without so we can have the site runners kill them before our other guys go harvest. Good to know.
@@javajoecupofcoffee6816 yeah I warped to 100 at a site to wait for the rats in my proteus, 40 mins later and I'm thinking man this is a new record for rat spawn, but then 1 hour goes by and I decide to just start harvesting, thinking someone else killed the rats, like 16 mins later they spawned
Good video, but I'm a little confused! If you're not going to get caught by the sleepers, surely you'd have to be orbiting the cloud at 100+ km from it's centre? How do you do that with gas scoops with 1500 m range and 22 km targeting? What am I missing? Has something changed in the last 3 to 6 months?
Hello! Maybe I missed something, but where is the fit listed? And where I was very curious, how did you got ~2200m/s speed with 1MN afterburners? If a 10Mn was fitted, what did you changed in the fit?
I was so curious of this myself. I have really good skills and was sitting at 1300+ on my speed and 32 sig. Sleepers warped in and were blasting me. Webbed and Nueted me almost perished. 😂
CB so do you just travel through the gas cloud until you find something to click on? I have the ship/scoops/ and scanning skill but I’m having trouble finding something to click on. I don’t know how to add gas to my overview
Open your overview settings, then scroll to harvestable materials, and make sure gas is selected, or download an existing overview. I use the Signal Cartel one.
how do you manage to orbit at 800 with 2k speed? my character exceeds the 1500m range for scoop as soon as i turn on my afterburners while trying to orbit at 500m. how come?
Yes they do MWD are only meant for short bursts of speed, not for prolonged use. Remember that they also make your signature radius bigger so you don't become harder to hit with an MWD on, you actually become EASIER.
if I train a huffing alt up - is it worth bringing it in as a hole scout while running combat sites in my Tengu then shifting to letting the tengu act as a cloaked defense and huffing the gase?
@@dudewheresmycar6318 because you’re in a system and can keep an eye on dscan for ships coming into the hole, and if you see something interesting, you can have your PvP acct jump in very easily
I found a wormhole group to run with after watching this video and it’s been such great isk I run 2 accounts and the other members have a porpoise to benefit everyone
Is there still a market for gas? I'm a bit confused. Before investing time I had a quick look at the marketplace. No orders to sell most types and small buy orders. Am I missing something? \o/
Tried this fitting with all the correct skills and my speed tops out at 1222 m/s. Was curious how you managed to get yours to 2153 m/s? Are there any other skills that help with it?
@@captainbenzie Second attempt was a major success! Warped in at range and huffed 78 million isk worth. More than made up for my prior mistake. Thanks!
hey guys i am new to this and just set up my ship as shown in the video but i can only move at a speed of 1230 even with afterburner 2. got do i get the 2000+ speed ?
Ninja huffing always felt like the cowards way out, running away as soon as the rats spawn. So Jedi Huffing seemed much cooler, sticking the middle finger up to a fleet up sleepers whilst you casually orbit and suck up all the gas 😂
So with this fit I had a couple scouts and an "Awakened" something warp in on me. Got me down to about half shields and then after the first web got on me I nopped out. Maybe that was just an unfortunate spawn?
Huffing gas in k-space is also extremely profitable. Just today i was lucky and huffed about half a bil of mykoserocin It's especially profitable if you know what regions to huff in too.
@Captain Benzie: How long does it take to find a WH that has a gas site in it? I've been scanning for hours and haven't found one yet, only data or relic sites so far. Am I just unlucky?
The game loves doing this to me 😅 if I log in on my main character, I'll find only gas. If I log in on my gas huffer I'll find combat and relic/data... It is just bad luck. You'll find sites eventually!
@@captainbenzie damn my luck then! It also means that gas huffing may not always be the right activity if you only have 2 hours or so to spare to play EVE, does it?
@@YanickGirouard Gas huffing is best if you already live in a wormhole, cause the connections to K-space usually have people that already huffed t he gas.
@@captainbenzie oh that must be it, I am still in venture. One more question, where do you search for wormholes? Hi/low/null sec? I've been trying highsec but keep getting ganked.
this is amazing hahaha, i dont know how you got to 2.3 k m/s with only an afterburner, i had to go with a mwd, but currently there are 5 sleepers chasing me 20 mins ago just going round and round they cant even fire XD
I don't understand the mil/hour calculation. You are huffing C320 at rate of 16 units per 30 seconds => 1920 units per hour. Price per unit at the time of filming is apparently around 40k, which means total hourly profit below 80m. What am i missing? Also you said that this video was filmerd in C3 WH, but by the code of the wh in the video, it is C5.
And by the time you actually locate the gas the ISK per hour drops significantly due to just finding the gas. Better off making 40M ISK/hr hi sec mining with an Orca and a Hulk.
Warped in at zero on a site that had rats. Never warp to zero if you don't know the site. May also have been an Ordinary Perimeter Reservoir, which requires special tactics (did a separate video)
Hi Captain. I copied the ship and it is working in general, but i reach a speed of 1.200 only while you get 2.100, that's weird. Do you use implants or other things influencing the speed?
@@captainbenzie Thankyou, I use to log in and spin my ship as I was bored but now I have set myself up so I can log in and do whatever content is available in my WH and connecting WHs
I dont even get close to the speed you show with a afterburner in that fit. Is the numbers in the simulation wrong because my skills are almost maxed out. You get like 385% on your afterburner?? Probably its the wh speed bonus in that system or smth so yea..
Yeah, this exact top speed is from being in a Black Hole wormhole which does increase ship velocity. The exact speed doesn't matter though. In this case it's so fast that nothing hits me. Going slower, you still rarely have to cycle your shield because the damage is still so low. You can see my overall velocity in the fitting section.
Today was the first time I went gas huffing. Didn't quite get a full cargo hold but what I got was worth 60m. Not bad at all. I found two gas sites and both had or 6 enemy ships guarding them. I cleared them out with a Hawk and then went and got my prospect. My question is, is there always enemies guarding the gas sites? I didn't know, and being new at this, I warped my astero within 100m of the first gas site I found and lost my ship. Lesson learned.
Yes, as I say in this video, there are always enemies and they'll spawn 15-20 minutes after the first person warps to grid uncloaked. The only exception is the Ordinary Perimeter Reservoire, which has Sentry Guns already spawned that do an insane amount of alpha. For those you warp in cloaked, bookmark the cloud at range, warp back out, then warp in to the bookmark.
@Captain Benzie See that's what's weird. I expected a few ships to spawn in 15 but none did because their were already 6 ships there, not sentry guns. . This was the second gas site. The first one where I lost my ship was sentry guns. Also, I only see options to warp to a location from 0 to 100m. Can you warp to something say 200 or 500m out or is 100m the most you can do? Thanks captain. Love your content!!
@@eod5762 for warping i think 100km is max range, you can't warp any further. For gas sites: if you scan down gas sites and warp in, there should normaly be no enemies. Enemies/Npc spawn after 15 minutes if someone warped to the Gas site. What you found were gas sites where another player already huffed and left as soon as the NPC's got there. Thats why you saw NPC instantly beeing there, and thats why you always warp within 100km range in Gas Sites, you don't want to fly directly in their arms :)
Why do you never put the fit in the comments in the video description? It is only copy and paste so that we can do the same and not have to search piece by piece
Great Vid... seems I have stumbled onto most of your suggestions by accident. I am saving your build, but I am seriously paranoid about wormholes.... In my early *early* eve life I got ganked each and every time I went in a WH. If you get around to it... I would enjoy your thoughts on a Mining Barge (specifically a Mackinaw) I am 2 hours away from completing *Mining Barge 5*
Thank you! Check out my Wormhole 101 video too, just D-Scan like mad and be ready to run. As for mining barges, may be a ways away as I don't have skills for it on any characters yet, but it's something I'd love to cover.
How do you sell for anything other than small change? I have, according to my ship inventory, 6 million isk after my first ever wormhole dip. Got out, went to sell at trader and was only offered 35k!! How do I get even near that amount?
4:10 oh and 'Jedi huffing' ... my main is from 2008... never heard this to this day. Lets check other gas tutorials. I am confident they use the term all the time. Cause Jedi's are known to be *stealthy* ... with those BRIGHT GLOWING swords and all that... super sneaky. A credible name would be *Ninja Huffing* i suppose ... but how else you get the Disney growd lel! Remember calling your ship 'Huffing Falcon' ;) He found so many clouds in only 20 parsec! He just chew-i-ed them up. Selling you must, in Jita, best price you will find! (ok i am done :p
Jedi and Ninja Huffing are two different things. Ninja Huffing (I've gone a video on it too) is warping to a site and warping off as soon as the rats spawn. Jedi Huffing is when you build to speed tank the rats, like a Jedi deflecting all the shots with a lightsaber. I'm not a Star Wars fan, I didn't invent the term 😅
With the recent gas market crash and changes are you going to revamp this video? June saw a big permanent drop in the gas prices due to ship construction. Personally I don't know why the booster gases dropped too? I assume it is a panicked market, hoping the boosters rebound this fall. I am still causally scooping the boosters in 0.4 LS as my alpha. I am making about 1 billion per month doing this very casually. Still a solid mining video but people will have to put in more hours, if they plan to keep huffing gas in WHs. Back when I was WH huffing, I was living in the wormhole owned by Wormlife, and used my destroyer to clear out those nasty NPC rats. Yes I even nailed the 5 sentry turrets at the Ordinary Perimeter Reservoir with my destroyer, it takes practice and makes it fun.
Newbies TO GAS HARVESTING. This isn't a "Day One" video, it's something to aim towards. "Here's how to do the thing" not "Here's something you can do on day one", at no point did I even insinuate that it was day one 😂
yeah you not making 100m isk per hour even with tier 2 scoops. its just not happening. the amount of time it takes to scan down a wormhole, then a gas cloud, + 15m timer on gas... you not making 100m per hour. never. ever ever. MAX 80m if absolutely everything goes your way.
You massively misunderstand the ISK/hr calculation. I'm assuming you're in a corp where scouts have found it, or you've found enough sites to run for a full hour. I'm not saying "log in for one hour and you'll get this" - simply "if one site takes 30 minutes and earns you 50m, then if you have two sites, that's 100m in an hour" Don't needlessly complicate basic maths 😉
@@captainbenzie Thats cool, but I meant it as it would be nice for min/maxxers to have a video like this that also mentioned the implants and boosters you can use to max things out. I might be wrong I'm very new to the game. Just a though.
-Suuuuuuper misleading. This method only works for 3 specific types of gas sites and even then there are caveats.- *Edit:* I must admit... I was wrong. Speed-tanking does work on all except the Ordinary Perimeter Reservoir. It was a bit tricky, had to be vigilant at all times to make sure I didn't get in the way of the rats, but it worked.
@@captainbenzie I don't understand how. Majority of the sites have frigate rats, which you can't outrun, and one of them has Sentry Towers, which will decimate you if you don't warp in cloaked (even if you warp in at 100 km). And you also conveniently showed gas huffing for the ONLY site that this method is perfect for. Convenient. Most people watching this video will be noobs like me and they will have only a month or two of skills while you possess years of it. Super misleading.
@@Scytale56 as I said, the Outpost is the one big exception, hence I've covered that elsewhere - that's the one with the turrets. The frigate sites are fine too. You're fast enough and small enough to only take minor damage, and the shield booster can keep up with that.
@@captainbenzie Grrrr... You're gonna make me lose my prospect, aren't you? Sigh, fine. I'll give the other sites a try with the same Speed Tanking method. I'll get back to you after some testing :P
@@captainbenzieThis works for frigates site, until you hit a site with frigates with webs. Then it doesn't work. You can't outrun frigs because they fly almost double your speed. For example token perimeter. Frigates web you and criuser neuts you and shoots you.

Yup!
I just now realized that both Warp Core Optimizers and Inertial Stabilizers negatively impact signature radius. Well, damn... there go my old fittings (only really used them in high sec previously).
As such, I made a new fit that compares favorably with the one featured here in a few ways:
- sub 3s align time from stationary;
- is a lot harder to scan down by probes (22,74 sensor strength for me);
- has a warp stabilizer that can mitigate one basic scram;
- is faster by 26,4m/s before activating the AB (2785,8 m/s max speed with AB for me).
Downsides:
- no shield resistance bonuses;
- 42% worse targeting range and scan resolution (it still has 543 mm of resolution, so I don't see this as an actual problem);
- only 58s of cap (without the warp stab) - this is probably the main downside but, with nearly 2,79km/s (i.e. over 10k km/h), it should be able to speed tank just fine with the booster only being used occasionally (without the booster/stab it's cap stable at 42% for me, so it should recharge quickly if some care is taken).
Mind you, I do have most of the relevant skills maxed out, so this fit may not be useful to you if you don't, as it's very tight (0.7 power grid to spare).
Here's the fit:

If you don't use a separate ship for scanning, feel free to replace the Small Auxiliary Thrusters II with a Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I (sadly the T2 version doesn't quite fit).
If only Inertial Stabilizers wouldn't bloom the sig. >.>
And remember, if you see someone doing this, it's bait. There's 3 cloaked Proteus following every Prospect.

Im from Zim also , been playing Eve since 2006 , never come across anyone else in zim playing till now :)
Oh fantastic! Whereabouts? I'm not in Zim anymore, now back in the UK, but was in Vic Falls for three years, and Bulawayo for four.
If you r really good at it project discovery gives you ~200k every minute
200k*60=12 million

Edit: Unfortunately, devs saw this and you can only submit some every day. But still a lot of money
Yup, Project Discovery video is also on the way!
I've found that if you're inside the cloud, you can "Set Orbit to Current (0m)" and then you will orbit around the edge at the minimum range.

started eve 2months back, im in null corp and i easily gain 500mil a day semi-afk huffing myko gas for few hours, sometimes around 800mil if i get a Lime Myko gas site, two ventures with syndicate gas scoops, I tried WH gas huffing but realized WH gas ain't giving much isk + it can't be played semi-afk.. I just keep eye on local and do my office work while huffing in null.. I'm happy I found gas huffing so early in the game, I was just trying it out with a corp mate and i loved it since.. suits well to my semi-afk playstyle..
Glad you've found something you enjoy! For me, that thrill of being hunted is what makes it all so much fun, though!

I am a new player to EVE online and just did my first gas huff run today, learned from your tutorials about J space and Ninja huffing.
nice I found that even doing 250 m/s around the cloud some of those sleepers are not doing much damage - this fit works for low risk loss
I think having a probe scanner on, if it fits is really useful if the wormhole collapses on you.
Erit: on a Venture
You should never enter a wormhole that has less than four hours on it anyway.
@@captainbenzie some can roll wh close! :) and if it is big enough AU you won't even see it coming even when use D-scan. Scan is a thing, esp. when Venture cargo holds expensive gas :D
I could only imagine the horror of going into a wormhole doing your thing and then when you return it’s gone
Wasn't all that bad, albeit I just decided to log out for the day. Hunted down a new exit in about an hour.
Just so you know the aggro range of the sleepers is about 250km range. SO since the cloud is so big you can burn to the outer edge of it and huff outta aggro range. You legit don't even have to move.
Chameleon Huffing ❤️
I'm having an issue with my setup, fitting is exactly the same as this one in the video except i put 2x small poly engine housing II instead of small poly engine housing I. My problem is when i orbit a gas cloud (or ore or anything else) my ship does not stay within the 1500m range if my afterburner is on, seems it cannot turn fast enough to stay that close unless i turn off the afterburner (which leases me slow and vulnerable) Maybe my evasive maneuvering skill is too low? its only lvl 2 atm. also my base speed is 539.4 not 554.4 like in the vid
Yes, you need higher agility to maintain the orbit at that speed
MWD also increases your sig radius.
I did a video about the Ordinary. Sadly, it's the ONE you have to be very careful of
@@captainbenzie LOL! Well it will not be a mistake I make twice. Any suggestions about how to start gas huffing as Alpha with Venture. Do I just scan down other unknown anomalies that are not one of the labeled Ordinary Perimeter Reservoir. Are those the only ones with sentries? It's in the video description.....

When you orbit a gas cloud, you orbit the centre point, but that's not where you have to be in range of for harvesting
@@captainbenzie That's cool,

The 2200m/s is because I'm in a Black Hole system. It normally hits 1200m/s which is enough

Hi, ty for guide. One question. Does some npc have warp scramblers? I like to use micro warp drive, and that would ruin me.
Yes they do
MWD are only meant for short bursts of speed, not for prolonged use. Remember that they also make your signature radius bigger so you don't become harder to hit with an MWD on, you actually become EASIER.

Looks like the price has changed then
Gas huffing in a venture is some of the best money you can earn in eve if you are an alpha clone
Absolutely and it's not too risky either if you know what you're doing!
And by the time you actually locate the gas the ISK per hour drops significantly due to just finding the gas. Better off making 40M ISK/hr hi sec mining with an Orca and a Hulk.

What you found were gas sites where another player already huffed and left as soon as the NPC's got there. Thats why you saw NPC instantly beeing there, and thats why you always warp within 100km range in Gas Sites, you don't want to fly directly in their arms :)

*Edit:* I must admit... I was wrong. Speed-tanking does work on all except the Ordinary Perimeter Reservoir. It was a bit tricky, had to be vigilant at all times to make sure I didn't get in the way of the rats, but it worked.
It's worked on every single gas site I've ever run except the Ordinary, which I've detailed elsewhere.
100 mil/h is kinda pitiful for a endgame nullsec player. I recommend this only for solo beginner players whos only alternative is to try and earn even more pitiful isk in hisec.
Excellent advice considering this isn't available in Hisec 😅 not everyone wants to be a Nullbear Krab. I try to show people different ways to have fun - ISK isn't everything
