Great summary of a bunch of bikes that are bordering on being irrelevant for road use. I do love sports bikes. Had several including zx7r, '04 Fireblade and a '15 S1000RR. Whilst the 7R wasn't setting the world alight with power, it was a great road bike. Satisfying to ride on road and track. The Fireblade felt on the limit of what power was remotely possible to use on the road. The RR tipped the balance and got rid within 6 months. Ironically, superb electronics and insane power, combine to make a bike that is video-game easy to just pin the throttle. Whilst this does allow the rider to focus on everything else, it doesn't stop the fact that you find yourself in two polar opposite ends of road riding: left feeling that you're pootling about using half revs and quarter throttle, or, you begin to feel that you're stretching it's legs, arriving home thinking - how am I (or others) still in one piece and will I be getting a brown envelope in the post in next two weeks ...worse, a knock on the door. let's have some great handling, usable sports bikes for the road that we can use and can afford.
I've been saying this for years. I'd take 130-150hp and a nice, usable torque curve over a 200hp revbox any time I'm not at a track. The Triumph looks about as close as you can get at the moment but I haven't tried one so can't say for sure. All this £25k for something that can't pull your gran under 10,000rpm is just daft.
Actually nicely said. I used to race (so I think I’m a reasonably decent rider) and I wouldn’t buy a 1000 for the road. Exactly what you said - just never feel like you’ve “ridden” the bike without getting into ultra-dangerous arrest-me-or-die speeds.
I miss when bikes were simpler in the 2000-2010 era where it almost felt like it was literally just an engine, two wheels and yourself. Now with all the electronics it feels like a computer. I think the last of that golden era is the current gixxer. Just put gas and ride it. Not a fan of Suzuki but their bike is the only that feels like those golden days
Well, some allow you to zero out almost all the electronics - not TC, WC, Acrive/semi active shocks, etc. etc... At 158-168 hp, you can still get sideways, but at 200 hp, it just happens that much quicker...
Very informative. I also had a difficult time to choose in between BMW S1000RR Sport and Suzuki GSX-R1000R but ended up with S1000RR for having little more tech eg semi active suspension, TFT dash and active breaks etc. But no doubt that Suzuki is an excellent all rounder as well. And in Korea, GSX R1000R is 10-15% cheaper than BMW. So great value for money too. Cheers

Don't forget that for the Roadside Assistance, BMW does NOT charge any deductibles unlike all other roadside assistance programs from all other motorcycle brands; such as Ducati, which ONLY gives you "up to" $200 to have a tow truck pick you up as part of the roadside assistance. You have to pay everything else after that. So, if you get stuck on a tour and the nearest Ducati or other exotic dealership is 150(or more) miles away you are screwed. Anyone would be happy with either i reckon, ZX10RR for me if I could choose, always loved ninjas and although apparantly not the best bike there still far more performance than what the average rider could use
What I find interesting is the tuner shops that with no parts changed just stop the fly by wire butterflies closing at the top end with some reprogramming of the ecu and release so much power from the stock Japanese bikes. The Japanese bikes nearly all limit their own power with this method. I guess they have a reason? Just having that fixed by an ecu reprogrammed puts them back up with the European bikes power outputs.
Thanks for this it has confirmed to me the BMW s1000rr sport is the best road going and value sports bike. It has by far the best usable tech. Add to this 3 years warranty, road side assist and up to 5 years fixed price servicing. Looks great as well.

I’d argue that a) go second hand cos you’ll get great bikes for way less. But b) if you want new… the base models are actually far better than all but the fast track day riders - you just pick the brand or looks you like really. Plus people throw some mods at it anyway.

a true gem of a video thanks so much! I love the R1 the most but most club race 'super stock' rules don't allow brake caliber changes which makes it a difficult choice if you want to do a little more than just track days
My choice will be the fireblade SP , the white one ❤️. Anyway good suggestions and nice video. Overall all of them are beautiful bikes but sadly also extremely expensive.
It's an optional addon nowadays. It's a new trend to sell it separately. The new s1000r base comes without QS too, even though the 2017 model has QS and autoblipper as standard.
Here is something interesting to look at. Here in China the motorcycle prices are through the roof. Just to list a few: BMW S1000rr base model = 297,900RMB - 44363.72USD Ducati Panigale v2 = 222, 000RMB - 33049.48USD Ducati Panigale v4 (base model no 's') = 248,000RMB - 36920.14USD Kawasaki Ninja ZX10r = 360, 000RMB - 53593.76USD Yamaha YZF-R1 = 229,000 RMB - 34091.58USD Suzuki GSX-R1000 = 339,800RMB - 50586.55USD Honda CBR1000rr-r = 428,000RMB - 63717.02USD These are a few of the liter bikes, however to be honest the 600 CC's are also all from 260k to 400k RMB (CNY). And all the motorcycles have a 13 year scrap period before you can't ride your motorcycle anymore. (Sad but true, I own a Ducati here and plan to ship it to a foreign country once it reach that period or 120 000km).
How can one call a BMW "exotic"? These days the japanese bikes are the exotics in my opinion - here in Germany all the newer liter bikes are mostly BMW, Ducati or Aprilia - Japan has really fallen behind in technology and development, not only in MotoGP but also with their road bikes.
Could you please elaborate more about the HONDA FIREBLADE and why you say "bottom end" when we compare it back to back with other Japanese superbikes? I appreciate your reply and feedback

This is a great review by a more competent rider than myself. I will say that probably most riders are in the sub 20K category. The rest depends on your riding habits, capabilities and mechanical ability. Being a mechanic I like the low price of Kawasaki and the fun in fixin' it up (2014 N1K, 2019 ZX_10R). BMW, Aprilla, Ducati all have high cost of ownership. Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki are more user friendly and fun/cheaper to mod.

Great video, as usual from Michael👌
Best review ever done on the latest superbikes.
Great video
Doing the same for middle weights ??
Everybody loves a Gixer👌
Great work as always really appreciated the straight to the point approach and clear recommendations 🙌
I have a 2018 Honda CBR1000RR and plan on purchasing the 30th anniversary edition of the Honda CBR1000RR-R
Thanks for this it has confirmed to me the BMW s1000rr sport is the best road going and value sports bike. It has by far the best usable tech. Add to this 3 years warranty, road side assist and up to 5 years fixed price servicing. Looks great as well.
Michael, don't forget that for the Roadside Assistance, BMW does NOT charge any deductibles unlike all other roadside assistance programs from all other motorcycle brands; such as Ducati, which ONLY gives you "up to" $200 to have a tow truck pick you up as part of the roadside assistance. You have to pay everything else after that. So, if you get stuck on a tour and the nearest Ducati or other exotic dealership is 200 miles away you are screwed. But, their is NO limit distance for BMW. They pay for ALL of the towing no matter the distance ! That is considered a true 5 Star Service to the 'conscious intelligent man'...
Cause they know that their crap keeps breaking down frequently 😂@@markettradinggenius
@@foodmaniac9339 The other motorcycle that would be good is the new 2025 Triumph Rocket 3R Storm Edition. That thing is mental man...haha...great reliability and good for 100,000 miles without engine issues....The suzuki hayabusa is another good one and their engines are literally bullet proof...
@@markettradinggenius all japs are bullet proof
A very sensibly put together video , makes a lot of sense
Great video, hopefully add an S1000RR in a few years when prices drop a little (I hope)
I'm going to give you my top list for everyone that works 9-5 and makes
I’d argue that a) go second hand cos you’ll get great bikes for way less.
But b) if you want new… the base models are actually far better than all but the fast track day riders - you just pick the brand or looks you like really.
Plus people throw some mods at it anyway.
Amazing video
I really enjoy your videos, totally unbiased and extremely accurate.
MM93 Honda Repsol HRC Honda RC213V is the most expensive MotoGP Bikes of all times.
Being a tall bloke I'd have the S1000RR M edition 50th anniversary. Being skint though I'll keep what I've got.
thanks for your honest view
I'm happy you said this, about the k67 bmw s1000rr sport.. being your number 1 bike.. given all the above details etc mentioned 😀 this is why i decided to buy the m1000r last year..still have both bikes today and always smiling..never been on a track..so some might say these bikes are wasted having not been used on a track
Great stuff, thank you.
a true gem of a video thanks so much!
The best takeaway from all of these bikes is they are all amazing because you get a chance to ride on two wheels!
I'm not a superbike rider but I enjoyed this video.
The 'Blade doesn't even have a quickshifter? My 2015 BMW has an 'up and down blipper' ffs. 🤔
It's an optional addon nowadays. It's a new trend to sell it separately.
The new s1000r base comes without QS too, even though the 2017 model has QS and autoblipper as standard.
Amazing video as always, great work!
Great video, thanks bro!
Here is something interesting to look at. Here in China the motorcycle prices are through the roof. Just to list a few:
BMW S1000rr base model = 297,900RMB - 44363.72USD
Ducati Panigale v2 = 222, 000RMB - 33049.48USD
Ducati Panigale v4 (base model no 's') = 248,000RMB - 36920.14USD
Kawasaki Ninja ZX10r = 360, 000RMB - 53593.76USD
Yamaha YZF-R1 = 229,000 RMB - 34091.58USD
Suzuki GSX-R1000 = 339,800RMB - 50586.55USD
Honda CBR1000rr-r = 428,000RMB - 63717.02USD
These are a few of the liter bikes, however to be honest the 600 CC's are also all from 260k to 400k RMB (CNY).
Aprilia all day long for me. Soundtrack alone is amazing 👏
Love the honesty. Need more info on setting up as a track day beast, bang for the buck
Really good and to the point video, I liked it.
Excellent as always mate but I’m keep my h2 💪
Value for money bmw but ducati v4s for looks
If possible do a superbike shootout but with all the bikes unlocked. The japanese especially kawasaki are restricted much harsher than euro bikes.
The r1 is without a doubt the best super bike ever made. Harmony
Great video! Would love to see a similar one for the hypernakeds.
Absolutely
YES!!!
Yes, please do a comparison of the hyper nudies!
Gsxr for the reliability, these bikes are pretty much indestructible and they are cheap to fix and maintain.
Excellent video
Nice rundwon of the current listings. Pretty much on par with what i have heard other reviewers say. I'm looking forward to trying the cbr1000rr and bmw s1000rr
go with the BMW s1000rr the honda cbr1000rrr has had big reliability issues .One is it runs SO hot oil lines melt, ecu burns out (and just shuts down period) The cbr 1000rr runs so hot Honda sent a notice to the cbr 1000rrr owners that the bike cant be ridden under 50 mph or it will over heat . I would be very poed if i bought a 30,000$ bike that over heated . Dont take my word for it google Honda cbr 1000rrr over heating problems .
@@jake88ci I heard a lot about that, the electronic also shat and the in a lot of bike the engine wasn't charging the battery so Honda had to recall several models because of that. Its stupid really.
@@jake88ci thanks for the heads up!
For a road bike , 06-16 year model fire blade is a great choice , 06-23 year model gixxer1000 is also a great choice.
I'd still get a R1. So much capability and they sound the best in my opinion
Wowww that was massive! I am in love with the new gixxer 2022 but that s1000r is really something! What about Yamaha Vmax? Opinion please!
Hi, a great video as usual, I have a 2022 R1 60th gp anniversary, what do you recommend to make the brakes better for the road, TIA.
Brembo.
Pads?
Pads(brembo), new brake master(brembo RCS 18-20), different braking fluid(brembo/motul). I have the same bike, after these upgrades you will love the braking feel!
@@needformotorcyclesNFM brake fluid, something other than Dot 4?
Brembo GP4-RS calipers with road and track pads RCS 17 master cylinder which is recommended for those calipers.
How would the rankings rank up if you would add a 10.000 km reliability factor in, based on used models?
Why the S1000RR and Gixxser only if you’re NOT going to do many track days???
So would you personally get a naked or standard over a super bike for daily riding and trips?
Where would i acquire a non sp cbr1000rr-r?
So, Yamaha R1 or Aprilia rsv4 for 5'11ft rider?
I’m old school and the only bike with any electronics I owned (briefly) was the 2014 ninja 1000 w abs and traction. Hated it! I miss my 2004-2015 bikes with some only having a slipper clutch. Those were cbr 1000rrs Gsxr 750 cbr 600rr, zx10r and my lovely tractor of a beast rc8r. These newer bikes are too cluttered and busy with bs I don’t need. They should make them in base models too no tc no abs nothing! My wrist takes care of all the controls instead of crappy electronics
I suggest using tierlist for categorization fir these bikes, great visual aid and way to order items
Suzuki AND Aprilia (and I'am a Yamaha fan tough).
Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki are more user friendly and fun/cheaper to mod.
awesome review
I think you forgot to mention the Ducati V4R.
Absolutely mental prices I bought the the Bmw s1000rr m sport when it came out and was so disappointed in the build quality bolts would just disappear the right handlebar came off in my hand at knockhill track day was more stuff to the bike had only done 1300 miles lol
I’ll take the cross plane crank R1 ,..actually an MT10 SP did it for me.
Waiting for delivery of the MT10 standard version. Can't wait to put on an aftermarket exhaust and release that cross plane crank sound!
My 1199 is still lighter than these and with an Akrapovic runs over 200 hp, crazy bike and always a day out, and Im never going to good enough to ride it!
Have you made a similar video recently for supersports or middleweights?
Excellent video, I’m waiting to see if Suzuki updates the GSXr1000r for 2023. I don’t trust BMW reliability
