    That's a great visual on how well those LUTs work!! Thank you Shane and big thumbs up 👍👍👍
    I have a couple of questions - with the LUT in camera activated, will that "LUTTED" image go out the HDMI port complete?
    I'm thinking about the topic of live-streaming, you think it's possible to get a finished picture "out the door" from using the LUT to use on YT for live-streaming? I know the software I use (Ecamm) allows the application of a LUT, but I'm curious if the camera can handle all of it all by itself. What's your say on that?
    Thanks for such a cool video :)

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  Год назад +5

      Hi Peter, I tested the HDMI feed and it does show the real-time LUT. You can't modify it in camera with the exception being the sharpness from memory. If you can adjust the levels in e-camm it should work okay as very small corrections on the levels will give you a close to final look.

    THanks so much for this video! I was thinking maybe something was wrong with my real time LUT, as it didn't look the same as adding a conversion in post. The minimal tweaks in POST with this Real Time LUT are great - although I use the Gamut LUT, the principals you showed are the same. As a side note, I am really enjoying the CINED2 with the Gamut CINED LUT applied in camera as one of the optional custom color profiles - so far colors seem great and the dynamic range seems to cover most normal situations.

    Thanks for sharing your findings. I am new to LOG-shooting and trying to get my head wrapped around the concept of shooting and editing in this profile. Firstly, do you retain the LOG file if you shoot Real Time Lut? Do you shoot the same way as you would with the Natural Profile? I assume the big advantage of shooting Real Time Lut over Natural Profile is greater dynamic range- but is the dynamic range the same compared to v-log?

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  8 месяцев назад

      Real Time LUT burns the lut in at the time of filming. You get more dynamic range than shooting with the typical picture profiles. If you want to grade it later, shoot in VLOG (normal).

    Nicest LUT seems nice! What is the difference of .VLT, E-E.CUBE and E-L.CUBE as camera seems to be able to load any of them from memory card? I am just starting to learn color grading and such. I have Lumix S5ii. VLT is the right one for the camera I guess? My test videos with Nicest LUT still seem to be a little flat, though. Certainly they need editing.

  • @MichaelSchagen
    @MichaelSchagen Год назад +4

    I'm still a bit surprised how nothing in the video world works exactly according to standards. You would think that when Panasonic applies its own nicest LUT in camera, the output would be identical to applying it on vlog on a timeline in post, but your video shows that the black-level and range don't quite match. It may be small and easy to correct but you would think that vlog and these LUTs have exact mathematical definitions allowing things to match perfectly. I wonder if different NLE's apply LUTs differently. It would explain why some people complain about certain issues with respect to color science while others don't seem to have the same issues.

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  Год назад

      It could be down to other factors like the LUT loader program I am using. Unlike the standard VLOG to 709 LUT which is baked into Final Cut, I had to add the Nicest LUT via a LUT loader.

  • @fabiopisani8167
    @fabiopisani8167 3 месяца назад

    Thanks! How do you expose with real time lut? My understanding is that shooting real time lut experience is the same of shooting with natural pic profile. So you try to find the proper exposure in camera even if the lut tou are using is based on vlog (while doing it in post would have required a different exposure becuase you would have to use and shoot vlog)

    Thanks for the video, but maybe I'm missing something: why wouldn't the real-time LUT look identical to the Vlog+LUT, if you're using the same LUT? Isn't the point to not have to do any further adjustments in post?

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  Год назад

      You can actually adjust it in camera further through a different menu. I missed it when I first tested it. It's not part of the Quick Menu. Either way, it saves all of the post production of adding a LUT and rendering out files that can take longer than a read-to-go file. This will make a huge difference when you've got a 50-100gb project.

    Very nice Shane! So you have always been pleased with the results from the Natural profile. Will you be moving away from that to the RealTime LUT? People complain a fair amount about the noise from VLOG in low light - remember the low light video you did with your girl and the your dog? Would you use it in that scenario?
    Also - you have travelled quite a bit between PAL and NTSC regions - what changes do you make to your camera when doing so?
    PS - were all still waiting for videos of a red back spiders in your guitar case, brown snakes in the scenes you're filming, as well as crocodiles and bull sharks...

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy

      The Natural profile is going to be used in the studio. I can set it up so I don't have to adjust it in editing. For outdoor clips the LUT loader is going to be a fast way of getting great results with more dynamic range.

    • @DrWNoLs
      @DrWNoLs Год назад

      @@GeekyNerdyTechy Why not use a custom LUT that has more contrast added into Resolve, for the studio option? I've found Gamut conversion + Gamut boost LUT (35 dollars in total for both) and then 1.25 contrast and 0.2 exposure added in Resolve, and then exported as one final LUT, gives an amazing result. Even better than Natural, and more similar to the end look than just an initial conversion. Feels like a whole new and improved color science.

    Are the rules different for video or something? Was there a firmware update?

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  10 месяцев назад

      So, it's basically adding a LUT to VLOG without any adjustments. One thing that's a bit confusing is, you can add the LUT over another custom profile and adjust the colours more in camera to match. The end-result is basically the same once you fine-tune it. There wasn't much info at the time of filming this video that was available. Even the LUMIX USA video is pretty confusing on how to customise the profiles. Long story short - after using this for months, I see no disadvantage to the LUT loader, it saves a bunch of time in editing and computer processing. If I have to adjust the contrast a hair, no big deal.
