Worked as a gas jockey in East Leeds as 15 year old. Bremner was managing Hull. He stopped for gas at 8.30 on a wicked winter night. chatting asked me where I live. I told him. He asked how I was getting home after shutting shop at 9PM I told him i was taking the bus. It was snowing. "Sod that " he said. "I'll read the paper and take you home. Which he did. What a soul! Great man!
sniffer was an amazing goal hunter - left foot right foot balance lethal shot quick composed and surprisingly good header of the ball. i remember he would seem out of game for 75 mins and then strike out of nowhere like a snake. superb
The Sniffer just knew how to find the open space, and simply knew how to put the ball in the back of the net. Today's Leeds could learn a thing or two from watching this!
The most under rated striker in football history right foot, left foot, head took the stick from the defenders of the day but could give it back Oh Allan Allan Allan, Allan Allan Allan Allan Allan Clark !!!!!!!!!!
I think he was highly rated. Just not with the FA who dodn't like Leeds nor probably Clarke's individuality. One of the greatest finishers in the history of British football.
An assassin, Alan Clarke was calmness personified in the penalty area he never seemed hurried when putting the ball in the net. No wonder they called him sniffer he sniffed out chances from nothing.
L G Paul Madeley was a utility player , basically he could be put in any position on the field and fulfill it. Thanks for recognising his skill , it's not often he's mentioned.
1970 wold cup Mexico what did the papers say about Leeds? the MAGNIFICENT 7, CAUSE 7 LEEDS PLAYERS WHERE IN THE ENGLAND SQUAD n the others where Scottish Irish Welsh internationals, for me by far the Best club side in England of all times thank you ALL you will Always be the Magnificent best in my heart

Is it my imagination or did Clarke have extraordinary long arms when celebrating a goal? He was surely taller than the 6 foot that Wikipedia have him at!

ITV broadcast the game. I've only seen the Allan Clarke's goal once (about 20 years ago). I can only think Yorkshire TV wasn't the main broadcaster because they were never included them on their 180 goals VHS compilation.
According to Clarke himself, it was because Don Revie was keener on keeping him fit for Leeds. This wouldn't wash with Bremner, though; Billy once said to the Don, 'Don't ever stop me playing for my country'. I personally think Sniffer should have got 50 caps!
@@paulbarrett22 I'm not sure he did. Ramsay wanted the best players to fit within his overall tactics and strategy. Players from the "Leeds machine" (as Clough once disparagingly put it) would have fitted in better than the mavericks that Ramsay tinkered with but had no real long-term plans for
Clarke was made for Leeds United & vice versa. Mick Jones is the forgotten Leeds United player. He scored many goals & was just a run & kick merchant but didn't have the persona of the other players. It's a odd thing really & he deserves a plaudit.
Not a single "spectacular" goal (well, OK, the FA Cup header), just 170 odd stuck away from around the six yard box ! Can't think of any striker like that now, probably because it's not as easy as Clarke made it look. Sniffer was an apt name for him.

Gas? Are you American? We say petrol you say gas. What's going on here? A hoax? So he read the paper whilst driving the car. Hmmm..
He played for Hull he never managed them.
My footballing hero was always sniffer Clarke number 8 playing footie at school ❤

good description. Liverpool fan but I love watching Alan Clarke. So silky.
My dream team... sniffer Clark a joy to watch he was always there to pop them in. ♥️
what a great side. what brilliant players, great commentators to. sniffer was deadly. and I'm a hammer.
The diving header against Arsenal just shows killer instinct. A class, class player.
That goal is iconic ! I watched it as a 14 yr old, and It blew me away, What a team, and what a goalscorer !
The truth.
Sniffer was the last piece of the jigsaw and the one element Revie's Leeds had been missing up until then - a prolific goalscorer.
Instinctive finisher and always well-positioned. Right foot, left foot, head.. Didn't matter!
THE BEST
Clarke one nil still brings a tear David Coleman 🙏
We need a goal scorer like him today, amazing!!!
LeedsLeedsLeeds!!!
Get Bamford to study these video clips.

Sniffer Carke's diving header against Arsenal is imprinted on my brain.
iconic goal
Either foot or headers on rough pitches, great player.
don't think he got enough credit he was pure class.
You're right. I love watching him - and I'm a Liverpool fan.
The ball control at 6:44 under pressure is phenomenal.
we need an Allan Clarke today. Leeds united till i die.
An assassin, Alan Clarke was calmness personified in the penalty area he never seemed hurried when putting the ball in the net. No wonder they called him sniffer he sniffed out chances from nothing.
Paul Madeley was so important, never seemed so at the time though, classic unsung hero !

Loved Sniffer
Bre....Clarke . David Coleman brilliant.
wow that was a great team to a man. Hell of a striker ..would cost a fortune today.
To a man...even the subs such as Bates, Yorath and Hibbitt were quality players.
it makes you realise how giles and bremner were almost balletic when you watch their skill they were both world class players as was eddie gray

"Sniffer " Clarke .... an icon of Leeds United ! Let him in and 99% of the time he would punish ! UP THE LEEDS !
Can never understand why Ramsey never picked Sniffer and Jones to Lead England's attack together.
he was brain dead
seemed to like that LOSER CHANNON though
Sniffer.... C'mon Paddy, you got some boots to fill, come to think of it, C'mon boys, be Lorimer, be Charlton, be Grey, be them all...... C'mon...
clarke totally clinical cold assassin.only 19 caps but 10 goals.
Richard Branton check out his penalty against Poland I the World Cup shear class
Loved That Hello Leeds x
Legend ! Could today's players perform on those mud bath's. ?
Different gravy
Not a chance . Alan Clarke was exceptional.
Nice vid great player
Bre - Clarke . Love David Coleman
Muddy fields and tough men. Great days of football.
Today's prima donnas wouldn't survive.

The muddy and snow covered pitches. Happy days.

Sniffer Clarke has to be Leeds utd all time greatest forward, He made it look so easy, and as a striker myself, I can say, I didn't have his knack,
The best team ever.
Brilliant.Where’s part 2.
How it was that this " ice cold executioner only
Can anyone remember allans goals against burnley 1971 i think he scored 4,i can't find footage anywhere.
Go on, Edward IV!!!
so where's part 2 of Sniffer Clarke's goal collection?
Was it not Bill Shankly who rated Sniffer the best 1 on 1 finisher in the game ? If not , he should have .
England's best finisher from 69-75 for me and Leeds best ever striker my first and best hero.
You wouldn`t put cows on those pitches !!!
Leeds GOAT,until he wore red,wot a team though!!!
Yeah, goal's pay the rent alright
How come this silky smooth operator and goal poacher never received the accolades he deserved including more England caps than he got?
