I uninstalled and reinstalled Downloader and then unchecked "APK Auto-install" in its settings before trying the initial download. This allowed me to click the relevant settings buttons necessary to get to the "Install unknown apps" screen. Hope this helps. (I agree Chris, a more efficient way to do this would be great, if I discover one I'll let you know)
Hi. For the people who still can't download the APK via your way, I would like to inform them to do these steps after the security steps, same as yours: 1- Uncheck in the downloader the APK auto download. 2- Open developer mode. (To enable developer options on your Chromecast with Google TV, navigate to your device settings > System > About > Android TV OS build, and then press the Select button on the remote about 7 times.) 3- Go back to the downloader and download any app you want, and the window for "install unknown apps" will appear. 4- Finally, enjoy and share ♡

Great video but unfortunately doesn't help me. After I download Downloader and when I want to install apk ...it skips settings in Downloader and automatically I get cannot install cuz unknown sources is disabled 😑

I did everything you mentioned here but I still can't install third party apps via the Downloader app ( in this case the Aptoide TV app). I keep on getting Unknown Sources error. Any tips on how to get over this obstacle?
@@cwtek1 Thank you for your reply. Restarting the device didn't help. Neither did a hard reboot. The all-important menu Security and Permission in System to enable Unknown Sources is still missing. Without entering it, one can't enable Unknown Sources, unless it has been hidden away somewhere one can't easily stumble on!
Install unknown app screen comes but option to enable is not click able. All remote buttons juat freeze except back button. Seems it juat doesn't want to allow to enable despite disabling play protect.

It doesn't work anymore. It does not ask to get the permission like you getting allow and then after that it is downloading. But when you click thereby says you cannot download anymore. I have Android 12 Google TV

Thanks for info Chris, but my screen is black w/resolution mismatch message. How can I follow your technique?
Try plugging your device into another TV and see if you can sort out the problem.

@sidmcmillan926 I tried what you did and it didn't help as well 😢
I'm sure this worked at the time but they got to it quickly
They are certainly making it harder.
Thanx Chris… shared

I can get to this page but I can't choose one of those apps to enable them 🤔
Doesnt work for me😢
Down vote for being long-winded and not actually showing how to get to the option. Waste of time.

Please try restarting your device!

I got the same issue. So frustrating and still can't get it to install apk files

the company gave me android box free with subscription but they blocked setting of allow unknown app even by this way what can i do??
If they blocked it then I am not sure what you can do, you could factory reset the device but you would almost certainly loose your free subscription.
Thank you!!!
