Following trend in clothing, green has been rising in popularity as a substitute to the more classic navy blue. I think that has impacted the watch industry as well
I was a bit ambivalent to this green trend until I saw that Monaco in person. It is absolutely magnificent…the way it plays with the light is mesmerising
Seeing the Monaco and the new Carrera in green? Tag Heuer is crushing it... I'm going to work on a clip about the brand in the coming weeks to give them some credit. Some watches suit the colour nicely (and Fumé is always the way to go) ;)
I have olive skin and black hair so the green contrasts well with that. This gives the green variation a competitive advantage for those in the same boat. Therefore, watch brands looking to expand their collection should be incorporating green dials if (economically feasible). So it makes sense that we are seeing more green dials
Great video as always. Just one honourable mention for the Seiko Alpinist SARB017 as a classic before the trend😁. As a bloke with a brown/red tinge in the hair and beard, I’m all for the green, however the flood of green dial watches onto the market has made even I grow slightly tired of the colour. Then Omega released the Constellation Globemaster Annual Calendar in green, and I’m in love again. It’s all in the shade, as you suggest. Oily green/black does it for me every time. Glad to see you’re looking healthy and well, sir! 🥃 😉👍
The Alpinist is one model that completely slipped my mind while putting this together and you're absolutely right. Way ahead of the curve. Also seeing the Globemaster in Green... Omega knows what they're doing ;) Really hope you're well Mark and still loving your Explorers! Funny to say they haven't been on my mind lately (but I guess they're always in the back somewhere)
When I was a kid, my mother had a Gucci watch with screw in replaceable bezels. This way, she could coordinate one watch with any number of outfits she wore. That Gucci was a women's fashion watch, and pretty much the opposite of what most of us in the watch community value in watches. Yes, we value our watches for aesthetics, and think along the lines of our use, casual, sporty, or dressy etc... But in general we don't think about coordinating the color of our watch with the rest of our outfit. We expect that whatever watch we have will coordinate well with whatever color we are wearing. The reason why white, black and blue work so well as dial colors is, they pretty much match everything in most men's wardrobes. Green does not, and for that reason, I think it is a poor choice of dial color, especially in an expensive watch which could be someone's primary watch.
Thanks for this Martin. It's an interesting one because I think for women the colour green will have a far greater appeal. BUT Blues, Blacks, Whites are so much more versatile. Crazy to think how a simple colour can change the way we view a watch
The swappable bezel is an excellent concept. I already do this with my Vostok. A bezel change takes about a minute. It's a conservative (for a Vostok, at least) black dial, so most colors will go well with it. I change bezels on it more often than I change straps on most of my other watches.
It's personal preference for me. I love green dials on watches, always have done (having just bought one finally). I've not once ever had anyone say to me 'your watch doesn't match the rest of your clothing', so for me I don't see a problem with the green. Everybody has their own experiences/opinions, but for me, if I like a watch, same as with anything else, I will wear it.
My first watch aged 11 was a Citizen auto with a green sunburst dial. 4 decades later I still prefer green dails over blue, and it suits my ginger complexion.
Anyone else loving seeing ID guy?! Another great video! I've kinda been loving the green dial trend. Green is my fav colour, so I'm incredibly biased. ;)
Still getting the hang of being a presenter, must say. There have been some beautiful green releases among the masses from brands that we don't immediately think about too! Ah, it's all great stuff. Just avoid the Green Nautilus like the plague ;)
Visiting IWC's Manhattan boutique recently, I assumed I'd be leaving with the seed planted for a green Pilots Chronograph 41. But the blue on bracelet was stunning. No comparison for me. The real surprise was the Red, somewhat of a Burgundy, Portuguese. So, I agree with you. That and the new Pilot 43 blue on blue leather stole the show. The greens in all their offerings were beautiful. They're amazing watches but green was feeling too trendy in person even though I'd went to see them specifically. Love the Glashutte 60's and 70's in green but did you see the yellow?! Cool.....
As you often do you've presented a thoughtful overview of the green wave . Where I believe you nailed it was on the FOMA and profit over passion aspects of current market trends. That "gotta have it mentality", driven in part by social media, has led to wildly over priced watches. I always enjoy your vids, be well.
Thank you Michael! "No Passion, Only Profit" was going to be one of the big catchphrases of the video at one stage, decided to make it a bit more subtle afterwards. But this is a continual repetition, you're right. We're starting to see the formula in front of us
You are a very well spoken young man. Has Hollywood contacted you to ask you to play the new James Bond character yet? I prefer blue, no complications. Something so honest about a watch that only tells time.
I dont see the market as rotating colour trends, I think black white blue green is the mainstream and we will go back to black white blue when the green is over. but I could imagine that the popularity of bronze cases pushes brownish red tones to a more common position.
It almost feels coordinated how brands are bringing these colours out in succession. But you're right about case materials, Bronze is growing (with red / grape dials) Ceramic might be the next phase too (hopefully)
@@ID-Guy am I the only person who doesn't want case in ceramic? I mean if I bang... Eh smash.... Ehhhhh, hit my watch on something, I don't want it to be shattered, scratches and dents I can live with, but a case in million piece I can live without
@@ID-Guy as you said in other video, when you are surfing in the dead of night, like at 1am and stumble upon a watch or in my case "hey I want a purple watch" and while at it find a pink one as well lol
As a interior designer I can see the trend of green in every fields. Couple of years ago nobody wants to have green details in interior - now everybody wants it (and also gold accents). It has something to do with "art deco" retro wave in clothing, interior design, industrial design etc. Nothing suprising but also nothing special - everything goes there and back in a waves. As we all know - simple adding or changing colour doesnt make any design better :-)
Visceral Valera, I Like it! You're talking to someone who owns about 10 black dial watches (so I can relate to this) Actually on the hunt for a blue dial next - the Rolex can wait ;)
@@ID-Guy I probably don't really mean it ha ha . I would take a blue dial OP, or even green and yellow... so I'm talking poo to be honest! But black is my choice for most watches
Thank you Will and I've always been drawn to your Olive AT. There are some terrific examples of green dial watches available to us now and many are just superb!
You forgot one, about a year and and a half ago Rado came out with a re edition of their Captain Cook in Bronze at 42mm one of the three colors released was Green. I brought one at $2,800 USD. Nice price to get into both Green and Bronze.
Jumping on the bandwagon usually turns into a short ride. I think it is a challenge to be true to your own preferences, when bombarded with the latest and greatest.
I bought a green Aqua Terra not because of any trend, but because of a few other reasons. One, I have a few blue watches already and wanted something different. But the the main reason is that it is an absolutely stunning color, especially in the sunlight. I buy watches for me, not because of a trend, because trends come and go. My last name is not Rockefeller so buying a watch like the AT for me is a significant investment. Not like buying a trendy shirt or pair of shoes.
Its definitely part of the reason why i chose the green Orient Kamasu as my first daily driver. Really enjoying the piece and it calls back to the old Omega Seamasters.
Love those classic Seamaster skin divers from back in the day (think they're called Seamaster 120's?) Beautiful underrated designs. And without question, the colour green pairs with some watches so, so nicely...
Yeah, I went back and forth between getting the green and red Kamasu Ended up with red, in part, because I had the green Orient Maestro already. Both the red and green Kamasus are gorgeous.
Got a rado captain cook in green, probably one of the nicest green watches I've seen, apart from the hulk. But my latest acquisition is a seiko sla043 with a blue face . As much as it's nice to have a change I think I'm a black blue type of guy. I wasn't sure if a blue face watch with black bezel really works, but it does somehow. Yellow could be a good shout , as it's always a stunning colour and works well with black bezels . If rolex do a yellow sub it will be known as the submarine, lol.
Great models and you're right! Didn't even register in my head... another that came to mind later was the Green Oris Aquis. All watches that were ahead of this craze, but that Alpinist is exactly the kind of watch that began the craze in this zone too. Got some Seiko content coming up soon which is going to be a blast!
Green is a great color for a watch. (I already have watches with White, Black, Blue, Grey, Orange Salmon and Gold Dials) I just purchased the Hamilton Navy Scuba Automatic Green Dial on a bracelet and also purchased a Green Hamilton Nato to go with it. Ciao.
Interesting thoughts IDGuy. I think its the manufactures being directed by the marketing departments to grab a quick buck riding the green fashion wave before it crashes but I think in the watch community fashion moves much slower than in other consumer markets. Clothes can go out of date in a season or two and be worth little when the trend has passed by. While I do see the green dial as a trend I do not see it dying out anytime soon but see it as another colour option that is good for for the consumer unless the availability is restricted. There is also a fashion for bright colour dials that really pop but this seems to be targeted at the younger consumer. Over time it's worth looking back to the, excuse the pun the evergreen dial colours that never seem to be the to but never go out of fashion, the classic black, white, silver or champagne as examples, these colours (or lack of) excuse another pun, are timeless. As a personal favourite I do like the red dials with different characteristics from a lacquered flat oxblood dial of say an Oris pointer date to the sunburst cherry of the Aquis again from Oris.
It is an interesting paradigm seeing this shift of colours. A watch like the Oris Aquis green was one of the first that beat the herd if I remember and damn, they make some beautiful dials today. It'll be something to see what happens next and hopefully some normality comes out of it. Thanks as always for your thought provoking comments Anthony!
My Seiko szsb018 looks great, jdm raised crystal looks like a baby gs,bought if bc it was on sale and the green dial leather combo looked the best,it's both black and emerald green that is the dial looks almost black until the light hits it. So by that standard it 's very versatile. Little did i know I would be enrolled in the iron guard secret society :)) Now the kicker in a year or so might be this..there were always green dialed watches both the outdoorsy types and the ultra dressy (it goes well with white diamonds) so I wonder if we will see a price surges for models that were released BEFORE the green "craze".
You may hit a nerve with the watch brands by pointing out that we pretty much have to accept what they offer in terms of color rather than the other way around as in choosing what color we desire for instance in purchasing a car lol I always appreciate and look forward to your videos. Your take on various trends and designs is unique!
Ah, glad someone noticed this Alvin ;) It's crazy though, right? We only get what's offered to us (no exceptions) It just struck me while preparing this. And thank you sir! It's never a dull day talking about design and getting a bit cerebral
Another great VLOG and I said something very similar a couple of months ago in a VLOG. I think green is in currently in vogue, but will date in years to come. In the 1970's brown was the in colour, brown suits, brown interiors and brown cars! I don't see anyone driving a brown car today! Stick with the classic dial colours, namely black and white, obviously blue and silver are an extension of those colours and will not date too.
Hahaha! Everything beige! What a time that must've been ;) Thinking about the future of watches, our more standard colours will always be a safe bet (plus we have straps to spice things up if we like) Great point on this sir and thank you!
To start with I really like this new format of yours in the videos. Second, I’ve never been a fan of green watches but green just isn’t my color. Call me boring but I’m still a blue type of guy 🤷🏻♂️
Greatly appreciate it Maarten, thank you! Still learning how to present better (and just got some new equipment this week to practice with) And like you, I've always been drawn more to blue. Maybe it's something we're just born with? ;)
I honestly believe this green 5711 would be a distinctly so-so watch in a hypothetical scenario where supply and demand were in equilibrium. It's the über-rarity, the not-even-VIPs-have-a hope-in-hell factor, which makes it special. Objectively speaking, I think most people would prefer the blue (and indeed white) variant to the green.
When I purchased my Grail watch earlier this year (Oris Aquis cal 400, and yes. I am a lightweight when it comes to watch collecting), I did opt for the blue dial. But I will be to first to admit. Trend, or no trend. The green dials are POPPING!!!
Once again, what a wonderful and thought provoking video. Colors are so personal and for myself affected with red/green colorblindness, it’s blue dials all the way. They just look incredible to me and why I am so in love with my VC Overseas. It’s not just the color but the way it dynamically changes shades in light, angles, views etc. Prob also why Moser is so popular right now with its Fumé dials.
Great viewing as always. Honest, In-depth, intelligent and a good laugh. Are you trying to start a new colour trend…? Hehehe. I have 29 in my collection at the moment. Far too many watches (went crazy there for a bit…) Not one in green however… I would have one if the timing was right though and my heart desires. Longines, Oris, Tag Monaco, GS..? I ain’t got 750mill…. Nor would i spend a stupid amount….
Always a pleasure David and as far as collecting goes, you just gotta move where your heart takes you. The beauty about this hobby is that there's always someone out there wanting the watch you own ;)
Probably the best exponents of the green dial is Grand Seiko. One look at the GS "Matrix" and you are enthralled. It is breathtaking. With a green dial a lot depends on the shade - a green dial can either pop or look bland. Blue dials generally look good in every shade. My tip for the next colour trend is brown. Works exceptionally well with the integrated sports watch craze.
Great review of the current hype in blue and green dial options - first green piece I fell for was the Kermit. Not got one but still love it - maybe some day. 👍
I think 💭 this video was talking about your watch Russell 💚🙏👍, although Dad just got the AP Emerald Jumbo but it hardly compares to your blinged 💎 out Patek Nautilus 🤜 🥃
Totally wanted to rip into your 5711. Honestly think that's where this all started (the first green 5711 that sold earlier this year for ridiculous money) - you sharing the details with how the diamond bezel is climbing cemented it ;)
@@thepariswatchmaitresse5423 I've been trying to coax Russell down the AP rabbit hole, we all know what's going to happen if he gets a Jumbo on the wrist ;)
I think it's entirely down to the hue / saturation of the color whether a model will stand the test of time and not be a fad, regardless of what color we are talking about. As one's tastes evolves over time, they might get tired of a very bright and saturated color. If I take my personal example, I have always found the green hue used in the Rolex Submariner models since 2003 garish. The one used in the Oyster Perpetual 36 or 41 is a bit more subdued, but I'm pretty sure I would tire of it over time. I just went for a GO SeaQ Reed Green over the blue version precisely because of how restrained the hue is. Whereas the blue dial is quite magnificent, but also very bright due to the sunburst finish, the matte green dial goes from emerald green under intense light to a very discrete charcoal under most lighting conditions. It is very subtle, and very discrete, which gives me confidence I'll enjoy wearing it in both casual a more formal settings.
Strange how a simple colour change can make or break something, right? Think a lot of us feel this way. Some watches looks terrific in green, others better in blue, and many more deserve to stay black. Madness I tell you! ;)
I have recently bought a green Seiko Alpinist simple because I did have a green watch in my collection and It was available on a leather strap. Green is often paired with bronze and gold which suits it well. It also looks good against cream and beige/brown clothing. Interestingly, it is regarded as an unlucky colour and green cars have never sold well in the UK.
Green is an after thought. You need neutral colours for versatility and seriousness. "Coming back in vogue": you need perennial colours that are above fashion as stated in a Rolex advert.
I never knew that Rolex mentioned that about Perennials, fascinating! Makes total sense when you see how they've addressed their OP's. Thanks for this Michael!
@@ID-Guy I have worn Rolex for the intended reasons in 103 countries since 1975; hence I am sure of my long-held opinions based upon evolution, tours of Rolex service centres, winner of a 1993 Rolex Award For Enterprise and experience.
And thank you! It's a Smiths everest on a custom bund strap. Been wearing it way too much over the last few weeks. Wonder if we should start a trend to bring back the Bund ;)
I'm definitely poised to jump on the green tulip bulb before it becomes hyped. Then....perhaps my nightmares of owning a diamond encrusted Nautilus become true. On a serious note, my "favorite color" happens to be green, yet I have no real desire for a green dial with the exception of the IWC Pilot 41. But I honestly have given this thought and I have never been able to figure it out for myself. Great episode as always
Appreciate it Michael as always. Funny to hear that even though it's a favorite colour, it's not in your interest to have it on a watch. Maybe this whole green trend will be more short-lived than we think?
I do like my green OP34 with the olive dial (discontinued). Missed it in the line up. It is a wonderful watch and very wearable in different settings. Blue is still the go to color. Sadly the last year; we have a new release, the dial is now green. That pretty much sucks. Think of something new, a new color. I do like the turquoise and coral red which Rolex is now using. Prices are dumb so i will not even look at one .
Can't tell you how close I was to pulling the trigger on an Olive / White dial of the OP 34's before they were discontinued... But you're right about the sheer demand and prices for colours today... where will it go next? Glad to know that you grabbed one of those Olive dials (with the orange accents) definitely one of the most underrated OP's they every brought out and thank you Theo!
@@ID-Guy where i will go next i don’t know yet. This year i was luckily enough i could add two watches to my collection. A JLC Reverso Tribute Small Seconds in blue (monoface) and a Rolex Pepsi (at retail). The Pepsi was the watch I wanted nice about 25 years, when i first saw it in. National Geographic. I do like the Patek World Time in rose gold. But i am not willing to spend those amounts yet. Had it on my wrist in Shanghai to see if i like it, and i do. But a 40k watch is just too much as this point in time. I still want to use my watches all the time. With this amount of 40k i still need to worry, which goes against the purchase of a watch. Watches are made to be used.
And to think that for all these years I’ve just been picking the watch with the dial that matches my sportcoat I’m wearing that day. 😀 Best Blue Sports: VC Overseas Best Green Sports: 2-Tone Rolex But you’re right, I do need a Burgundy/Maroon/Oxblood watch. Rolex had the OP ‘Red Grape’ but I’m not buying a watch without a date function
If one manufacturer offers green, all of the others must offer green, or risk losing the "customer who wants green". They completely ignored that customer in the past, but now they can't afford to. And once green happened, it wasn't long before reds, yellows, and "Tiffany blue" were rolled out. Thanks to modern manufacturing methods (logistics in particular), all of these options are probably here to stay, and manufacturers won't find it difficult to track trends in fashion. If green is "out" next year, production will adjust accordingly. (My field watch is olive green, and I appreciated having the option!)
I made the mistake of not getting a Hulk back when I was offered one for 7k in 2017, but I think the green dial watch fad is starting to become too much, and I think this will make the special feeling of green watches less and less in the future. I feel like new colors like purple, pink, and red are more unique and will definitely have also a place in the watch world. Thanks, IDGuy for the great video.
It’s fashion(able) along with, possibly, bronze cases? Have a look at AnOrdain and their range of enamelled dial watches, including Fumé. May think differently about the ‘in’ colour?
Bronze is definitely getting a lot of attention (as we've been seeing) and the mix with purple / burgundy dials looks like it's also getting popular. Great call about AnOrdain! When it comes to being able to choose a colour for a watch dial (that other makers aren't allowing) a maker like AnOrdain with their custom finishes are a world apart. Thanks for this Jim!
Burgundy will be the next trend. Check out the new Oris Aquis Cherry. Also you visually captured most of the beautiful Green watches out there (great job) with one noticeable absence being the stunning Sinn 104 Limited Edition Green dial. Have it and love it.
I have a couple of green watches,a Seagull tank commander reissue and Vostok Kommadirskie (yes, really).I feel obliged to wear green when I use them, consequently they don't get much wrist time.I remember years ago bidding on Ebay for a vintage (don't go there) Soham watch. Two colours were available, blue and green.Everyone went crazy for the green one,so I ended up with the blue................................................
A few years ago blue was the “it” color, now it’s green, next will probably be red and I predict purple after that-just follow the Rainbow 🌈😎. I think in time green watches will be as popular as a harvest gold colored fridge.
It's a weird thing, and the more brands pump out this repetitive colour thing the quicker we tire of it. Better get on the train quickly before it leaves the station ;)
Chopard Alpine Eagle 🦅 just released the red dial at Dubai Watch Week + AP have had some red dial Boutique editions in other countries as well. Our family has been predicting the return of something less colourful like the grey dial in 2022 🤜
Great video as always. I know it’s a popular model but I really don’t like the Rolex Hulk - I find the shade of green very bright and off-putting. It is not a versatile colour at all. The Tudor Black Bay Harrods edition is much more attractive. The green OPs are beautiful as well.
Well I have to disagree with you when it comes to subtle. For example the new DJ 36 Palm Dial looks very extravagant on the press photos but on the wrist it has a dark green tone, which reminds of a darker dial. The palm motif just shines when hit by the right lighting. Same applies even more (apparently, I do not own one) on the 5711 in green. It just appears as green with the light hitting it. Blue on the other hand usually is really bright when used as a dial colour.
You and I might be distant relatives - I’ve been thinking burgundy will be the next hot color (Oris already there with the Big Crown). I’m one of those who really has no interest in green (or brown, college color). I do give PP and others a little credit for going with an off green instead of a very basic down the middle version so many rolled out.
I guess I would disagree that green should be held back to only a few limited "special" models. It makes green a "special" color and just feeds into the hype and FOMO of it all; like salmon dials. But I do agree that with all the brands rushing in to make green watches, it feels like a fad, might make the market react cynically to it all (like we are now?) and potentially poorer than expected sales might dial it back to when green watches were a rarity, and I don't like that. I would like green to be widely available, so long as they are always thoughtfully shaded/textured and not just added for variety sake.
I don’t care what’s in vogue. Blue is my favorite color. My dream watch has always been the Rolex two toned Bluesy Sub. I got the call from my AD 3 weeks ago I’m now wearing it. With green, it definitely depends on the green. I can’t stand the olive shades. I just buy what I love.
I have the Seiko Alpinist and Orient Kamasu, both in green. I love them both, but don't seek out green watches. I just thought the particular shades of green worked with these two. I do love the look of the JLC Reverso in green, but it's always about the shade of any color.
Green is fine with gold/bronze accents. Green on steel, apart some special green (that H. Moser... I'm drooling on it since its presentation... And also the emerald green of some IWC...) doesn't pop-out like blue. Personally I'd love to see more variety around. More champagne dials, more red dials (check out the Grand Seiko SBGH269, it is GORGEOUS), for instance.
I'll always have a 10:1 ratio of black to white dials. I'v never liked green or blue dials. And feel all my watches could be worn in any scenario. Almost any accents and attire works with black (few with white). As the seiko wilard and glashutte diver look good in green or blue stand alone i'd only get them in black happily. AND if Tudor make the new pelagos FXD in black i'll get it in a heart-beat and send it to you first for a few weeks to review and do all the sticker-porn/unboxing i don't get :) Seeing you in person upgraded your already stellar videos! thank you for your time and hard work!
Personally I find green more versatile than blue, tho currently I own one blue dialed watch ( king Turtle Manta Ray) but not a green, tho will probably pick up a green Willard soon. Did have a Alpinist, loved the colour but sold it because it was too small for my taste. Interesting video, thank you 👍👍
I find green to be a difficult color to match with my wardrobe, which is a mix of darker colors. And for some reason I associate the color with christmas, which to me is a little bit silly. Where the trend goes from here doesnt really matter to me, but I hope we go from everything being silvery metal back to gilded fonts, gold/redder golds hand sets and indices on non rubber quality straps (canvas/wool/leather).
Don't forget the Sinn 104, otherwise known by no one as the S-ulk...oh and the Longines Hulkquest, love the analysis, love the photos...but the white t-shirt I'm still warming up to
I have seen some burgundy watches in the last year. One IWC which was stunning and some others. I find the colour burgundy pretty nice for people with taint not so much for myself, but I see a need for a red one which drags for attention at a lot of wrists.
I wasn’t drinking or eating but burst out laffing at the perfect timing and delivering of 3/4’s of a Million. Bloody Fantastic. I just can’t imagine who would willingly part with that sum of money for a steel watch. OK Diamond set but that is Stupidity in extreme.
Great video. I prefer a black dial, so much so back in 2010 i turned down a hulk from my A.D because i thought a green watch looked stupid and brought and black sub. I wouldn't swap it even now for a hulk because i still think it looks stupid.
ive liked green dial watches for some time now. but not all green dials look good, as you pointed out, there are many shades of green. i like the H. Moser Pioneer in that electric green.
Brilliant video. Seeing so many stunning watches was a real treat. The fad will fade but those that have will continue to love them. They won't go out of fashion as such.
Agreed Matty, some beautiful examples that work so well with Green. I just hope prices won't be dictated by colour changes over time (like we've seen with other models from different brands)
I'm aware of the green trend but it's not a colour that really speaks to me, it probably has appeal to those who see a watch more as a fashion accessory. I collect mainly vintage watches & you don't see many with green dials, I wonder if there's a reason for that!
And let's not forget your Delta Integrale! Even back then green wasn't a thing by the sounds of it. There must be a reason. Maybe the colour was harder to produce or people just weren't into it? Maybe it gave off "Lead Paint" vibes that scared people away ;)
@@ID-Guy Ha well absolutely! I guess with watches made 30+ years ago when you needed a decent watch as a tool, had to be more versatile as it was likely to be your only watch . I don't know if green dials were more difficult to make & there were funky coloured watches in the 1970s in particular, but most watches before that decade seem to have versatile coloured dials like black, white, cream, gold & silver. Green could have scared people away, imagine an all Radium painted dial!
Because green isn't a great color for a watch dial. Or even a watch band, for that matter. I tried it once and after a couple of months, I switched back to brown. Green looks ok with tan, khaki some shades of blue, and some shades of brown. And not very well with other colors. Green with yellow looks like you are on your way to a Green Bay Packers tailgate. And Green with Red looks like you are one of Santa's Elves. Most men don't wear a lot of green shirts, jackets, or pants so It isn't a color a lot of men wear a lot, So in a nutshell, wearing a green watch requires men to pay a lot more attention to colors then they like to do.
I don’t think it’s a fad. Green is simply the next most popular color that most men feel comfortable wearing. When a brand wants to intro a watch that’s not white, black, blue, or gray/silver, green is the obvious choice. Agree that it will never replace blue, but it doesn’t have too. Some people, myself included, crave variety not just in style, brand, etc. but even in something as simple and important as color. The green craze doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I’m in love with my green Aquis so can’t see buying another for now, but … Anyway, I’d bet on red coming on strong, but it will never get to green’s level. It’s too bold and so, so many watch buyers are obsessed with black or white dial watches as it is. Already having two purple watches I actually hope the next to craze is orange. Not going to happen - just saying.
I just bought a GO SeaQ Pano with the blue dial and bezel. I had to think long and hard to get that over the black, so no, green is not for me. Maybe it's this seasons tulip.
"This seasons tulip" I like that a lot ;) And huge congratulations on your GO pickup! Such a great piece to cap the year off! Wear it in good health, brother
Next colour to become popular is Tiffany Blue. Basically the entire watch industry is just following 2 brands in terms of dial colour to go for : Rolex and Patek.

Just avoid the Green Nautilus like the plague ;)
i'am so loving green, that i'am starting a green only dial collection.
What I hope to see come out of this green mania is more people warming up to rose gold again. But it’s a long shot.
@@ID-Guy am I the only person who doesn't want case in ceramic? I mean if I bang... Eh smash.... Ehhhhh, hit my watch on something, I don't want it to be shattered, scratches and dents I can live with, but a case in million piece I can live without
I'm 3 steps ahead of the curve, I've ordered 1 pink and 1 purple watches the other day lol
Smart, smart man ;) I'm telling you they're next haha!
@@ID-Guy as you said in other video, when you are surfing in the dead of night, like at 1am and stumble upon a watch or in my case "hey I want a purple watch" and while at it find a pink one as well lol
@@drfathertime The best decisions happen at 1am. Then you wake up thinking "What have I done?" ;)
@@ID-Guy This is so true of me 😬
Purple ? I've never seen a purple watch I think 🤔
I ride the black dial board on those deep blue and green waves... and watch the trends flow past, into the distance, to smash up against the rocks 🪨
The great thing about " green " there are more shades of green than any other color .
I have to say this is by far my favorite watch video of all time, I was drooling all the way through........well done sir..👊
We love our 💚 & 💙 dials don’t we Rizzo 🤜
Thank you Will and I've always been drawn to your Olive AT. There are some terrific examples of green dial watches available to us now and many are just superb!
You forgot one, about a year and and a half ago Rado came out with a re edition of their Captain Cook in Bronze at 42mm one of the three colors released was Green. I brought one at $2,800 USD. Nice price to get into both Green and Bronze.
Jumping on the bandwagon usually turns into a short ride.
I think it is a challenge to be true to your own preferences, when bombarded with the latest and greatest.
Very well said George! Have to always go with your gut and trust your decisions
Bring them on. Greens, crimson, ruby colors, we need more color
I think It was the 'JDM' SEIKO SARB-017 Alpinist; that really set off the Green Avalanche. Thoughts ???
Great models and you're right! Didn't even register in my head... another that came to mind later was the Green Oris Aquis. All watches that were ahead of this craze, but that Alpinist is exactly the kind of watch that began the craze in this zone too. Got some Seiko content coming up soon which is going to be a blast!
thanks idguy very interesting video tallk about green watches thanks.
You may hit a nerve with the watch brands by pointing out that we pretty much have to accept what they offer in terms of color rather than the other way around as in choosing what color we desire for instance in purchasing a car lol
I always appreciate and look forward to your videos. Your take on various trends and designs is unique!
Ah, glad someone noticed this Alvin ;) It's crazy though, right? We only get what's offered to us (no exceptions) It just struck me while preparing this. And thank you sir! It's never a dull day talking about design and getting a bit cerebral
Try the German brand D.Dornbluth and Sohne. You can build a great watch the way you want it. Hands, face, numerals, etc. at a great price. I did.
@@ID-GuyAnytime. You are spot on with this.
Far too many watches (went crazy there for a bit…)
Not one in green however…
I would have one if the timing was right though and my heart desires.
Woooo!
Always a pleasure Gel ;)
I like blue, can’t wrap my head around green
Strange how a simple colour change can make or break something, right? Think a lot of us feel this way. Some watches looks terrific in green, others better in blue, and many more deserve to stay black. Madness I tell you! ;)
I have recently bought a green Seiko Alpinist simple because I did have a green watch in my collection and It was available on a leather strap. Green is often paired with bronze and gold which suits it well. It also looks good against cream and beige/brown clothing. Interestingly, it is regarded as an unlucky colour and green cars have never sold well in the UK.
I would kill for an almond green Mini mk1. But I live on the continent.

What is on your wrist ?
And thank you! It's a Smiths everest on a custom bund strap. Been wearing it way too much over the last few weeks. Wonder if we should start a trend to bring back the Bund ;)
@@ID-Guy no please don't lol
@@ID-Guy it’s but a pleasurable means to a measurable end. Why does no one comprehend? Let us hope this lunacy is just a trend….
Best Blue Sports: VC Overseas
Best Green Sports: 2-Tone Rolex
But you’re right, I do need a Burgundy/Maroon/Oxblood watch.
Great informative and thought provoking video. Glad you included a shot of the green dial Seiko 5. That's about my affordable level of watch. 😇
Burgundy will be the next trend. Check out the new Oris Aquis Cherry. Also you visually captured most of the beautiful Green watches out there (great job) with one noticeable absence being the stunning Sinn 104 Limited Edition Green dial. Have it and love it.
What is your opinion on red? I both own the red and teal orient Kamasu. I like both, for different circumstances.
@@ID-Guy you spelled color wrong 😆!
Chopard Alpine Eagle 🦅 just released the red dial at Dubai Watch Week + AP have had some red dial Boutique editions in other countries as well. Our family has been predicting the return of something less colourful like the grey dial in 2022 🤜
What do you think about Tiffany/Sky blue ? I see the market going from green to that direction with Rolex OP, Nautilus etc.
DATOMATIC!!!! GREAT NAME FOR A WATCH
So many cool names from back in the day that used - "omatic" - I agree, such a charming name ;)
Interesting topic. I feel ‘Tiffany’ blue, will be the next trend colour. Subbed.
2024 boom
Great video as always. I know it’s a popular model but I really don’t like the Rolex Hulk - I find the shade of green very bright and off-putting. It is not a versatile colour at all. The Tudor Black Bay Harrods edition is much more attractive. The green OPs are beautiful as well.
Hoping purple is next. I’d love a purple sky dweller
Great video. Great ideas.
I have the Seiko Alpinist and Orient Kamasu, both in green. I love them both, but don't seek out green watches. I just thought the particular shades of green worked with these two. I do love the look of the JLC Reverso in green, but it's always about the shade of any color.
I Really Love my Direnzo DRZ-02 in Green Dial! Direnzo says he is going to make a reduced model in the future. Don't miss it!
I've never been a green dial guy, but have you seen the new gold Daytona?.....Wow!!
The Gold Daytona and the Gold Day-Date Olive dial... simply incredible!
AND if Tudor make the new pelagos FXD in black i'll get it in a heart-beat and send it to you first for a few weeks to review and do all the sticker-porn/unboxing i don't get :)
Seeing you in person upgraded your already stellar videos! thank you for your time and hard work!
The question is what will be the next hero colour?
Don't forget the Sinn 104, otherwise known by no one as the S-ulk...oh and the Longines Hulkquest, love the analysis, love the photos...but the white t-shirt I'm still warming up to
I genuinely like green dials. Palm fronds, not so much, but to each their own.
I have seen some burgundy watches in the last year. One IWC which was stunning and some others. I find the colour burgundy pretty nice for people with taint not so much for myself, but I see a need for a red one which drags for attention at a lot of wrists.
Burgundy is a nice color for a tie, maybe a pair of shoes, but not a watch dial.
@@martintanz9098 I have got an burgundy pen, so a watch for that would be fitting
Wearers need to desist from hype and be realists.
Truer words have never been spoken!
Cheers for another interesting presentation.
In the Japanese language the character 青(Ao) represents both blue and green.
"They say geniuses pick green.....but you didn't pick it."
What's the problem with green? I love it! Saturated? I think everybody is SATURATED with black, white and blue dials?
I wish they would do more with Green dials or mint Green.
Octo,70s, alpine Eagle or the Polo unlimited.
Hi. I was looking for your collection video of homage watches. It seems to have been deleted.
Green is a far more masculine color than blue. I don't think this goes much deeper than that.
Most men don't wear a lot of green shirts, jackets, or pants so It isn't a color a lot of men wear a lot,
So in a nutshell, wearing a green watch requires men to pay a lot more attention to colors then they like to do.
The first green watch I fell in love with was the Hamilton Khaki so I bought one.
Prefer Red. A bright red sunburst dial is just excellent. It glitters; it shines and catches the eye.
I love my Seamaster Diver 300m because it's had a blue dial long before they were the norm.
I’m in love with my green Aquis so can’t see buying another for now, but …
Anyway, I’d bet on red coming on strong, but it will never get to green’s level. It’s too bold and so, so many watch buyers are obsessed with black or white dial watches as it is.
Already having two purple watches I actually hope the next to craze is orange. Not going to happen - just saying.
Great Video!
good to see you
Datomatic, Saxomatic, at least you didn’t say Vegomatic😆!
Got there eventually, right? ;) Ah, the outtakes are always good fun!
Cool topic
I just bought a GO SeaQ Pano with the blue dial and bezel. I had to think long and hard to get that over the black, so no, green is not for me. Maybe it's this seasons tulip.
"This seasons tulip" I like that a lot ;) And huge congratulations on your GO pickup! Such a great piece to cap the year off! Wear it in good health, brother
I have a green Formex Essence. I did not buy it because its hot. I got it because it's beautiful.
I nearly bought a green dial watch to match my motorcycle but realised my vanity was getting ahead of me. So opted out of the allure of green dial .
Next colour to become popular is Tiffany Blue. Basically the entire watch industry is just following 2 brands in terms of dial colour to go for : Rolex and Patek.
