I mean its been a revelation for me. I was mid high master dps back when i played a lot and watching this guy at first, i thought blasphemy. I am now 5-0 with his method, it doesnt make sense until you try it for yourself.

Yeah the “WORSE” is literally killing me although I’m GM 1 playing like this is difficult I would throw nades and land sleeps but the amount of dps Is something I am not used to doing all the time
@@jorgedeleon7162You’ll know you’re starting to improve when people are complaining about your damage even when you’re winning the game. @@cocob0l0 no actually it’s insane but understandable to be so used to heal bot supports instead of dmg supports so it’s natural for them to go against something they are not used to.
Im an unranked player, whos trying to learn Ana. Here's what I picked up so far: 1. Try to do as much damage as you can while prioritizing healing those who are drying. [Consider to even damage shields. Keep urself busy] 2. Purple nades are game changing. Limit the self-nades, you can just take cover and heal. 3. Establish a priority on who to heal depending on who is dying. When theyre safe but not full hp and you can do damage, do damage. 4. Know when you have to fight a flanker as opposed to running away. 5. Know when to hide behind a cover. 6. Use nano for more than doing a nano-combo. [EG. Saving someone by Nano] 7. Use your cooldowns more often. Only when you use it more often do you learn when to use it. Dont save them too much. 8. Understand the Push and pull of the fight. Know when to keep your distance. Specially when there is someone like Doom or Winston. Hope it helps.
Awkward, I just wanna say, because of this thoughtful and simple yet effective guide, and your skills as a teacher, I have climbed from bronze 3 at the start of the season, all the way to Platinum 5 by the end, which is a massive climb for me. I have played Overwatch since the beginning but have never made it into Plat before. Thank you so much! You easily make the best Overwatch guides without question.
On kirko I have a little tune I play in my head to keep my uptime of healing/damage up, Dat Dat whoosh, Dat Dat whoosh. Dagger dagger heal. I'm bad at flicking so I found I get more hits overall if I throw the extra one even if it lowers my healing productivity a little bc a hit headshot is a different fight
Your production has gone up a lot! Adding tips on the screen, breaking up the timeline by rank, and cutting the time between matches makes watching this much more enjoyable!
i find that your setup is also vitally important in term of Aim, i mean your game setting and monitor. u want ana unscope n scope sensitivity to be the same, with a relatively slow sensitivity. also monitor plays a huge role here, i got a 240hz mon with ulmb. its seriously night n day compared to 60, heck even 165hz. It really improve my aim
The discipline to rotate out with 2 HP at 39:07 and then chuck the grenade offensively is wild. I have to imagine pretty much every other Ana player in the world would have self-healed there
@@emma6648 anyone can get good aim. ALL the Plat players and above have good aim (unless they're pocket GF Mercy 😉). proper game sense and knowing how to adjust to the rhythm of a team fight is a skill that takes time and what gets you to GM and Top 500
@@emma6648 this is true to an extent, i'd say lower elo game sense is more important because you can hit all of your shots and still lose because of feeding, bad positioning, not being aware of your team and where they are. likewise you can miss most of your shots but still be adding value by staying alive, plying with the team, being aware of enemies positioning and how their abilities can counter yours etc. of course aim is needed as you climb higher, but it's something you'll pick up naturally as you climb either way!
They also are not cognizant of where their supports are. That’s the biggest issue I’ve seen in lower elo. Tank/dps will be behind 5 walls spamming “I need healing!” Like okay dude, come in my line of sight. I’m not coming to you so we can both die.
You’re the only person who really helped me! I went from a lowly bronze 5 to a low silver just from watching at least 2 hours and using some of those techniques you mentioned. Can’t wait to learn and improve more 😌❤️
Man this guide is fr just a masterpiece really appreciate how you go through everything so thoroughly without making it super complicated or making us as the viewer feel stupid
I've only played ana some in ow1 and you've opened my eyes to her damage potential. I would never in a million years think to use her on off angles or soft flanks and tended to lean towards heal botting more. Started going for more damage and I'm able to have a lot more impact especially when dps are struggling on my team thank you so much.
Seeing him play in the lower ranks really shows you how everyone there has the 'someone else will do it' mentality, they see widow killing everyone, tracer on supports, and they just don't do anything about it lmao
dude when i swap to kiriko trying to deal with the widow people get mad at me calling me a "dps kiriko" yeah no sh*t kiriko is literally advertised as a dps support lmao
10 minutes into this video and i learned so much already. Just started maining Ana yesterday because my team needed a support. This is the perfect video thank you man you earned a sub from me❤
Theres a saying that the best "healer" is Widow. The reason for that is because if there are less enemies, the less you have to heal your team. Same goes for Ana, the more you kill, the less you have to heal your team
i was bronze the first time i came across your unranked to gm from ow1. i come back to it from time to time when i feel like i've been autopiloting or healbotting as habit. you're not the only content creator i've watched but i definitely learned how to better balance damage with heals from watching you. i just hit diamond for the first time a few weeks ago. thank you for your content.
@@howtotech9930 honestly i got through plat pretty quickly through grinding an aim trainer for a month straight, but that was because it was a weakness for me personally.
22:13 THIS!! I always tell this to new players in forums and group chats.. There's no "Healer" role in this game, it's "Support". The change in mindset alone can literally make a night and day difference... Managed to climb at least Masters (High Plat-Low Diamond before) with this in mind..
holy crap, glad to see you back with some youtube content. Your first Ana U2GM has helped me more with her than any other video. Can't wait to watch this one.
Really happy you've made this video. I'm only 4 hours in but as a gold ana I've already learned that her damage is way more important and has way more impact than I understood. Very excited to switch it up and practice this playstyle. You've earned a very well deserved sub.
Somehow I made it to master as Ana in ow1 without prioritizing damage and this makes me think that I may be able to get back to that point again or near it as I'm not as good as I used to be
Thank you for making this. I've been dreading to go back into competitive because I always felt like I was either shit or my team wasn't very good, and I got tired of playing. That was in OW1. When OW2 came out, I wanted to play again with my friends, but... I didn't feel right. I play support, but I felt like something was wrong. I was heal botting too much. I wasn't playing in places that would protect me and I got so discouraged because, this is my first fps game I've played, so to see myself miss alot of my shots, I got so upset with myself. I've watched guides and coaching videos left and right, just to drill in my head what to do. Then I started watching this. I play Ana alot, and I feel like of there's anyone that I can improve with, it's her. So, as I watch you play, I start seeing what I SHOULD be doing and what I can do to improve. Line of sight with cover, angles to get dmg in, and...be confident in a 1v1. I thought that Ana wasn't good in 1v1, turns out it was just me being bad. So...I went back to comp today. Strangely, I don't feel stressed like usual, I don't feel angry, I'm not blaming my team, all I can think of is "do better next time". Thank you, thank you so much. Also, I liked the video and subbed to the channel. I wanna learn more from you.
@Awkward I did see that come up yesterday on my notifications, Kiriko is another one that I've been playing alot. I'll definitely watch it and study it, thank you so much for what you're doing. Seriously, thank you. Now i feel like I can actually climb.
You’re the best, Awkward! I’m both super new to fps and overwatch and with your advices, i quickly went from bronze 3 to gold 5 just today!! My ana winrate went from 37% to 54% in such a short period! And the crazy thing is I found myself missed a lot of shots when playing, that’s honestly just a prove of you can win games without hitting everything like you said. Good work, man! Have a great new year and I hope you blow up soon! You deserve the recognition!!! ❤
I've been watching since OW1; thank you for these guides. Because of you, I've ranked up from mid gold to mid diamond. I just hit mid diamond for the first time yesterday. Your guides are incredible. I hope you keep making these, and your channel grows.
Been watching so many support videos but for some reason yours was the one that opened my eyes. Very simple and straightforward. Just had two ana games where others called me insane so thank you 🙏🏻
These kinda videos got me from 1k bronze to all golds. Explaining why you do one thing and not another makes the video some much better for learners. Currently gold 1 in ow2 and I still come back for the basics and the advanced. Please continue with educational content, genjis love me bc of you!
I loved your overwatch 1 ana unraked to gm. Been thinking about ana in the new meta, so I've been literally dreaming about this content at night. Excited to still have you around Awkward. :)
Finished up watching this entire video, and I just want to thank you for the effort and making these types of helpful videos especially for people who are trying to get better at a certain character and climb!
came to watch this after I saw the coaching session you did with svb. (That was super helpful in its own right; I’d been told to do more damage on ana before but couldn’t properly shift my mindset to prioritizing it until I watched your coaching, especially when you talked about rotating to open the angle for more damage opportunities & risktaking/pushing limits.) now, watching you play through this climb yourself, it’s not only helpful seeing your positioning & target priority and all that, but also seeing you struggle in some games in spite of their rating technically being well below your skill level. it’s reassuring & a good reminder that one L does not affect the climb in the long run and sometimes, things are simply beyond your control (even when you could’ve played better). ty for this, I know there’s a lot of discourse around unranked-to-gms but I think that’s an underappreciated aspect. overall, ty for sharing your knowledge, been really enjoying my games after a short adjustment period to this new playstyle
As an Ana main in gold 4 who played ow1 but then stopped for years and is getting back into ow2, thank you so much. Will be coming back to this one lots for sure!
The advice that helped me the most from this was to hold myself accountable. Don't blame others for what is happening to me. Crazy how this evaded me until now but it's such a good mindset.
Yes!!! I’m so happy you are still creating these videos. You have an amazing way of explaining things and are very easy to listen to. Thanks so much for these guides, I would love to see some Brig OW2 content (as she’s my main support)
This was very interesting, especially how some teammates got mad at you even though u where making a big impact for not ‘healing enough’ This would be really good for kiriko aswell as it’s a very misunderstood how to play with her, not sure if u play Kirko or if u stream it but would be great to watch u play with her
@@Awkward2 thanks man ur road to gm on both helped a lot in changing how I play support bro, got to diamond finally, I’m new to ow only started at ow2 so it really helped me escape elo hell
I've been following your advice and I've been implementing it as much as I can with Ana. I just found out yesterday that my friends don't like it when I play support because I don't do enough healing. I guess I'll stick to heal botting them in quick play and go back to doing damage when I play by myself for practice. Oddly enough the only times where I feel like performed well or the rare moments where I get play of the game (2 now so far with Ana) is with this awesome advice and these are the games where I'll be playing by myself, no comms, doing damage, getting purples, getting sleeps etc. Thank you for the video. It was fun and informative. I look forward to more!
@ the 28 minute mark he is talking about support dealing excess damage for pressure and gm /gold players are different levels......and i read "ana look at your damage, heal more please" That is a forever-gold.
I initially dismissed your advice but after slowly climbing I'm honestly impressed by how much extra value you manage to get out of literally every map. Like, I've learned so many ways to potentially get extra kills just from all the little tricks you do. Sometimes it's truly mind blowing because I must have played some of these maps 100s of times yet it never occurred to me to do something. What strikes me are amazing is how you're always perfectly synchronized with your team and the enemy. You always know exactly when to back off and where to do go to maximize survival. All while walking backwards to face the enemy during retreat. You must know every inch of these maps to do that. I think everyone can learn something from your guides.
dear awkward, in overwatch 1 I was low silver and I never expected to even reach gold. yesterday I peaked at plat 2. thank you so much for your help and videos!
I'm very new to fps games because I recently bought my first good computer and because of that ow2 is my first ever fps game alongside mw2, but thats neglectable. I'm naturally better at fighting games because I've played them more and I really struggled to get a good feel of fps games, like how to position, where to look for, etc.. This is the ONLY video tutorial I watched that actually helped me get a better understanding of how to play fps games and it really works well to have someone with experience explain the choises they make whilst playing. This video provides a source for mimicking another persons behaviour, which is imo one of the most powerfull tools to get better. Thanks a lot, Awkward.

It's funny as fuck how the gold players tried to tell YOU to heal more. They don't seem to understand that your team can't be damaged if the enemy is dead. You can tell they aren't paying attention to sntinades, sleeps, etc. Every single game is a "dps diff" for them.
i’m not even kidding when i say that after watching your gameplay and tips i finally hit Masters, i was hard stuck diamond 1 but i realized it was because i was a heal bot, and now that i actually do dmg as Ana too, always using my nade offensively and getting picks while my team is good on health, i’ve literally been popping off, it’s insane, AMAZING GUDIE
I had a plat Ana in my game as a tank the other day who was 4k damage and 520 healing. When asked they said "Awkward says you don't have to heal as Ana". Be careful watching these U2GM and hearing _what you want to hear_ rather than what he actually says. He says prioritize damage but _keep people alive_

The cool thing about watching Awkward is that you learn confidence and to be a better player by watching someone of a higher rank, more hours into the game, even a COACH, make mistakes. If Awkward can make mistakes, why can't I, as a casual player who's played maybe 2 comp games ever? Awesome video dude, I come back to it all the time.
Thanks a lot dude. Had a 18 game win streak carrying with ana and applied it to bap too. Went from gold 4 to Plat 5 this weekend already. I'm gonna try to watch this whole video eventually until I finish it I've found a lot of hidden tips you mentioned can't wait to climb even more!
@@howtotech9930 Ana's tough though, you miss 2 or 3 shots to heal a skinny ass dps, and you get endlessly flamed even if your hitting fight winning anti's and sleeps.
Hi Awkward! I picked up Ana this season because of Mauga meta. Prior to that I used to play Lifeweaver or Mercy as support and was hardstuck silver, and even dropped to bronze 1 at one point. Playing Ana and using your advice me me realise how helpful it is to have a character with damage and solid utility instead of just pumping out bulk heals. I've hit Gold 3 and hope to break into Plat soon 😊
Thank god you made this. The transition of ana into ow1 to ow2 has been difficult for me. I usually played ana 97% of the time in ow1. Now I never play her in ow2😞 Thanks so much for the education awkward!!💛💛
I like your approach to be honest. Only seen the first 2 hours and it has helped me from silver 5 to plat 1! Hopefully I can reach diamond 5 by the end of the season! Also what really helped me is to alternate between cover when I need to heal and when I want to do damage.
Thank you for pointing out that the words "simple" and "easy" are not synonymous when it comes to skill and competitive gameplans. There's alot of people who roast teammates for mechanical errors (missed shots, nades, reflex sensitive situations) when there's nothing to roast about there. It's obvious when someone misses a shot or something like that and it's obvious that the player is working on that through practice. There's nothing productive about constantly talking shit to your own teammate because he can't aim, that is a perishable skill that requires training and is based on consistency. No one is going to turn into a GM accuracy Ana overnight. People don't develop good accuracy and consistency with their shots and nades because they've hit alot in practice, it's actually the opposite. The reason why high level players and pros have the accuracy that they do is because they have fucked up and missed so many more shots then they've hit in the past.
Yep, just because something is simple doesn't mean it's easy. But explaining the concept in a simple way to understand, makes your practice easier and efficient.
It feels like in lower ladders supports are more often relegated to being heal bots. And what I mean by that is, your dps players face-plant into the enemy team non-stop thus constantly requiring you to heal them so they don’t instantly die. So doing off-angles and applying damage to put pressure becomes a rarity, it’s probably one of the worst types of games you can have because it takes away the strategic thinking this game requires for you to rank up…
The people who just take a quick look at the scoreboard and determine that Ana needs to heal more just based off the number they see. That is what makes playing support so unbearable sometimes. This dude was doing so much to make it an easy win but still gets told he's not doing his job lmao. Support is such a thankless job. Especially with these snotty nose gold/plat dps players who think they should be pocketed at all times
Skimmed through the vid this morning, win rate increasing by 30-40% by this afternoon. Getting yelled at for the absurd amounts of dmg im putting out and that's how I know I'm doing it right. Absolute king.

Crazy. I thought I was such a good Ana but wondered why I kept losing. The first 30 seconds of the video made me realize how much I’m doing it wrong. You’re awesome !!
I would really like to see you trying to get an already used account to GM. Because its kinda easy to get a new one to gm. Your first game is a diamond game nowadays to prevent smurfing. Its way harder to carry with an accoutn which is stuck in gold or plat, because your teammates also kinda sucks in this elo. WHen you get insta queued for diamond and onwards its a bit easier.
i swear each time you do an unranked to GM you make me see the error of my ways! love ur stuff man, and i respect that you enforce learning from mistakes, too! :D
The fact I would rather watch a nearly 12 hour video on Ana instead of doing something productive for 30 minutes really shows how we live in a society.

Be less afraid in general, especially in 1v1s and exposing yourself to enemies to damage them
Play-make and risk dying for it, but do damage where it's low risk
Line up nades, become more accurate, output more damage and anti the enemies more often
Use sleep more often, don't save it for special occasions
Nano whoever is in the fight that's doing shooting and doing damage
Rotate out of the way or hide when you feel or think you're in danger
Rotate to anywhere you can find damage that's safe
*Things not to do:*
Do not jump, do not find yourself in open spaces
Do not be too focused on "living" at the expense of making plays
Do not rush your nades, take one second at least
Do not prethink "oh I'm going to nano x" unless they ask for it
Do not get too greedy, do not trade your life for another, unless you think it's worth
*Questions to ask yourself:*
Am I in a position to do damage?
Am I using my sleep dart enough?
Am I staying in this position for too long? Should I go find an angle to damage?
Why did I die? Did I stay in the same spot? Didn't rotate?
Can I rotate? Am I supposed to be fighting?

NOTES:
DAMAGE
Im an unranked player, whos trying to learn Ana. Here's what I picked up so far:
1. Try to do as much damage as you can while prioritizing healing those who are drying. [Consider to even damage shields. Keep urself busy]
[EG. Saving someone by Nano]
I've been putting this in chat and some people get it. Gotta spread the message. Damage!
"trying and missing is much better than not trying at all" is fantastic advice!
Your production has gone up a lot! Adding tips on the screen, breaking up the timeline by rank, and cutting the time between matches makes watching this much more enjoyable!
it feels so nice hearing you say "oh you miss your shots/ sleep/ nande? its ok! No big deal" ... this is the reassurance i've always needed
nah its a big deal! dat mean u cant land a single shot!
i find that your setup is also vitally important in term of Aim, i mean your game setting and monitor. u want ana unscope n scope sensitivity to be the same, with a relatively slow sensitivity. also monitor plays a huge role here, i got a 240hz mon with ulmb. its seriously night n day compared to 60, heck even 165hz. It really improve my aim
nah fr. that's the best part about his videos. It let's me know that it is okay not to be perfect. Just try. Try. Try. Try.
The discipline to rotate out with 2 HP at 39:07 and then chuck the grenade offensively is wild. I have to imagine pretty much every other Ana player in the world would have self-healed there
Yh that was wild
Relatable Ana coaching from the Ana Gawd himself! He helped me climb from Plat to Masters on Ana. Listen to what he says and you will climb too!
He knows what he is talking about
His positioning is so good and the transition from cover to cover, better than most 500 players.
You need good aim though
@@emma6648 anyone can get good aim. ALL the Plat players and above have good aim (unless they're pocket GF Mercy 😉). proper game sense and knowing how to adjust to the rhythm of a team fight is a skill that takes time and what gets you to GM and Top 500
@@emma6648 this is true to an extent, i'd say lower elo game sense is more important because you can hit all of your shots and still lose because of feeding, bad positioning, not being aware of your team and where they are. likewise you can miss most of your shots but still be adding value by staying alive, plying with the team, being aware of enemies positioning and how their abilities can counter yours etc. of course aim is needed as you climb higher, but it's something you'll pick up naturally as you climb either way!
love seeing the dps complain about not enough heals. seems like many people in gold just dive and expect a heal bot.
this is also a big problem in diamond too sadly 💀
They also are not cognizant of where their supports are. That’s the biggest issue I’ve seen in lower elo. Tank/dps will be behind 5 walls spamming “I need healing!” Like okay dude, come in my line of sight. I’m not coming to you so we can both die.

Theres a saying that the best "healer" is Widow. The reason for that is because if there are less enemies, the less you have to heal your team. Same goes for Ana, the more you kill, the less you have to heal your team

I wanna learn more from you.

came to watch this after I saw the coaching session you did with svb. (That was super helpful in its own right; I’d been told to do more damage on ana before but couldn’t properly shift my mindset to prioritizing it until I watched your coaching, especially when you talked about rotating to open the angle for more damage opportunities & risktaking/pushing limits.)
now, watching you play through this climb yourself, it’s not only helpful seeing your positioning & target priority and all that, but also seeing you struggle in some games in spite of their rating technically being well below your skill level. it’s reassuring & a good reminder that one L does not affect the climb in the long run and sometimes, things are simply beyond your control (even when you could’ve played better). ty for this, I know there’s a lot of discourse around unranked-to-gms but I think that’s an underappreciated aspect.

Thanks a lot Awkward :) From gold to Diam in 5 days from the moment I followed your tips

Your aim is so freaking smooth/steady. Nice.

That's why players are stuck in Gold.

I think that the fact that you are so calm is really positive to the gameplay. Thank u for the vid is working for me but I have to work in the calm
Stopped using bio nades defensively, started using them offensively, immediate results.
Just because youre unranked to gm episodes ive climbed from silver 5 to plat 3 i have been stuck in low gold high silver since 2018
thank you for doing this again for OW2. This is very helpful to a ana trying to climb out of bronze
i swear each time you do an unranked to GM you make me see the error of my ways! love ur stuff man, and i respect that you enforce learning from mistakes, too! :D
Here we go again , my favorite unranked to gm 🔥
god tier content ive been searching for ages for, thank you so much!!!
You got it
The fact I would rather watch a nearly 12 hour video on Ana instead of doing something productive for 30 minutes really shows how we live in a society.
Of all the unranked to GM visões out there you have the best ones. Your commentary is simple and to the point. Going to try to break out of diamond this week!
Loved your overwatch 1 videos and glad to see a guide for my favourite hero in overwatch 2. Thanks Awkward!
Thank you for watching
3:38:14 how to get more confident with my aim, ‘shoot more’ 😭😭😭
love ur unranked to gm videos man, keep em' pushin
Will keep them coming
@@Awkward2 I don't know how hard it would be to do, but I think having your chat from stream above your cam would be pretty cool to see in the series as well. Just something I thought about while watching.
Awkward is insane but it hurts me every time he knows Genji has blade but burns sleep without a purpose. It could have saved him some matches for sure.
Yo this was incredibly helpful! Ana was one of my worst supports now she is my best haha
You're like the first person I have watched that explains everything they do. Thank you!
I was just thinking about your videos the other day, hoping you'd make more for Overwatch 2!
There will be more
Appreciate the video and def subscribing. I have mained Mercy since season 1 of ow1 and figured it was time to swap it up, if I truly wanna get out of plat. This video is really helpful!
Thanks for the sub!
