Dr. Carr is spot on with Durham, Wilmington, Charlotte and others. I grew up and am from Durham, NC, home of Hayti - the Black Wall Street of South is 30 minutes from Raleigh. Black people had communities in the cities. However due to urban renewal, desegregation, and eminent domain, these thriving Black centers were decimated. Thus, Black people moved to and started communities/neighborhoods in rural areas where land was available and affordable. Today, these lands are under siege and in jeopardy of being sold or taken. History keeps repeating itself. We must learn the lessons.
