I want to say thank you for this video! I have a 97 Accord that was infamous for throwing timing belts and noticed the pulley was wobbling a little but still worked. Last week this exact problem happened to me and after seeing this actually work it gives me hope it can be fixed. I'm going to give it a shot this coming week. Thanks again!
@@jfGarage4k I bought everything I need even a torque wrench today. Waiting on a new woodruff key to come in on UPS. My torque wrench only goes up to 150 ft. Lbs. Can I just set torque to 150 and over tighten just a bit and this work just fine?
Very common problem as the crank area where the balancer attaches is only half inch, and it spins . It should be tighter .i did a crank kit and replaced a new pulley and it still wobbles. Maybe i got a crank that already had issues. So my best bet was to either install a shim or epoxy the balancer to make the hole slightly smaller until it fits tight and then make sure to place locktight on the bolt and torque it to specification.also replace with a new keyway
I've got a 95 EG Coupe, with a B18b1 swap, and noticed some wobble on my crank pully with it running today. No weird noise. But definitely going to check that bolt.
Hey bro I’m having problem with my crankshaft bolt it gets loose every 5-10 minutes sometimes if I rev the car it loosen up I bought a new bolt as well nothing work with that when I torque the bolt it keeps spinning to where it isn’t even tightening
anyone else’s pulley stuck between the engine and the engine bay? my pulley pulls out but hits the side wall before i can slide it down, so i have to just keep messing around?
hey man! just found out about this vid and it’s helped me to start fixing my own ludes harmonic balancer. I got a new pulley but it doesn’t fit like my old one, the diameter of the teeth inside seems to be smaller so it wouldn’t sit on properly, did yours fit on nicely? any help is appreciated!
1998 prelude with the same issue just not as severe. I was able to pull the bolt and get it loose. Key is half sheared but I can’t even get the pulley off due to the body being in the way. Do I drop the engine a few inches? Likely going to need a timing pulley for mine as well given the condition of the key. Any help appreciated!
@@layneaube6074 yes but only a few inches with the jack bolt on the motor mount. Was pretty easy. Turned out that the crank was beyond saving without pulling the motor so I snagged up and h23 and a tunable ecu. It’s at the tuners getting finished up now. On the plus side my civic just snapped the timing belt. Here we go again lol
I hope you will reply. Please help. I have a 2000 Honda Civic ex with a broken crank pulley that is more looser than what you showed in the video. I don’t have an electric impact drill, how can I break it loose with a breaker bar with extension pipe? The crank pulley cannot be held since it’s loose. I wanted to take it off so I could see if it’s repairable. Thanks!
U need to hold that crank prevent of spinning. You have 2 options 1st Put it on gear and hold the brake pedal, have another person to brake loose the crank bolt with a breaker bar. Another 2nd option, grab your self a longnose vise grip and clamp/lock the flywheel with this tool, this well hold the crank shaft in place for Not spinning. Hope this help out champ good luck
Jasmine & Father Garage thank you very much! I’ll try having someone hold the brake. It’s an automatic tho. I never even thought of the flywheel trick. Very interesting!
Thats probably why, Who ever installed it previously did not torque the crank pulley bolt in the right spec. Overtime its loosen it self out, make sure torque it to spec and to make sure in the future put a drop on blue lock tight on the bolt treads.
Thanks for sharing. I had same problem and bought new crank pulley and same problem keeps on happening. The crank pulley bolt gets loose after a while. What do you suggest. Thanks
@@jfGarage4k Thats actually pretty smart engineering..well hopefully i just need a pully..this is the 3rd one..its like it wont sit on there flush and keeps slinging the belt
Noticed a rattling sound, popped the hood, 2.2L VTEC 97 Honda, and there's a wobble on the crankshaft pulley. It's a daily driver so maybe a one day fix? I'm a Chevy girl, this is my first Honda.🤣👍
Your first honda, "Nice" make sure have a honda crank pulley holder ready to take out that stubborn crank bolt or what i use is this belt trick Pulley Holder, i made tons of this short videos on my channel check it out
Hi, i have a similar problem too, mine was changed the bolt to bigger size. I just got the car with the issue already. Is it dangerous to use or should I get crankshaft and replace it?
Is the crank shaft supposed to be splined to fit the pulley splines? Trying to fix one for a friend but I think it may have made the crank shaft smooth
This mechanic messed up my 98 civic i rebulit everything and change every single thing on the car and when i ask him to change the water pump and timing belt he didnt put the ping right and it stripped everythibg and the bolt stripped the inside and tbe car is just there sitting 😪
Hey thanks for the comments. Yes i did skipped it, its pretty easy to install the belt, i dint wanna record the boring part. alot of videos on here how to install the belts on H22.
I love the guy asking all the questions lol it feels like I’m asking and you’re answering 😁 awesome
I know eh. He wants to learn

Crank pulley started wobbling after I hit 150 on the interstate with my buddy
Hope you guys are okay? Could imagine crankshaft pulley looking like after?
PreludeOwner, that's not funny.
Mine started wobbling after I hit 125 in my accord sport. Too much sauce.
Bro thank you, I couldn’t get the crankshaft holding tool to fit 👌
Glad I could help

I have the same wobble on my b18c1 today and I probably will change mine ASAP because it might be hitting the timing cover

You need to Remove the Driver engine mount to lower the engine

If its automatic the brake pedal trick not going to work, clamp the flywheel is the best option for you champ. Good luck
What’s the name of the tool u using too tighten the screw on the pulley
Hey Alexis: That tool is a digital torque wrench
My pulley also loose. I tightened and again it loose. Then I tighten again. Now ok. But why that happens. Loosing the pulley? 😑
Thats probably why, Who ever installed
it previously did not torque the crank pulley bolt in the right spec. Overtime its loosen it self out, make sure torque it to spec and to make sure in the future put a drop on blue lock tight on the bolt treads.
@@jfGarage4k thank you very much 🙂
Crank snout is still damaged it will give out again like mine
We replaced it with a spare crank pulley kicking around the garage. Still running strong as we speak 💪
Thanks for sharing. I had same problem and bought new crank pulley and same problem keeps on happening. The crank pulley bolt gets loose after a while. What do you suggest.
Thanks
I thinlnk whoever installed it last time forgot to torque the crank bolt. Keyway may have been in wrong too. Not 100% on that.
99 prelude here same problem...hope i didnt strip the crankshaft
The crank shaft are solid steel they are strong. The balance pulley are cast steel this well give out before the crank
@@jfGarage4k Thats actually pretty smart engineering..well hopefully i just need a pully..this is the 3rd one..its like it wont sit on there flush and keeps slinging the belt
Get a new keyway if this your 3rd pulley already.

That’s a harmonic balancer btw
That’s crazy! I’ve never seen one can spin a crank pulley by hand!
Hahah supa strong 💪 🤣
Such an easy fix if your lock on the crank shaft for the pulley is okay. Giving me hope
did you just put the pulley with the old key?
No, We got a good spare pulley with a old key and it fit nice and tight, so far its running strong
@@jfGarage4k but you didnt take out the old one?
The old key? NO we did not change it. it was stuck in good but it look okay its no damage or anything
Do it cause oil leak?
Great video
Good job bro 👍

Hi, i have a similar problem too, mine was changed the bolt to bigger size. I just got the car with the issue already. Is it dangerous to use or should I get crankshaft and replace it?
Replace the Crank Pulley, key and the both same size what came out
Is the crank shaft supposed to be splined to fit the pulley splines? Trying to fix one for a friend but I think it may have made the crank shaft smooth
There are no splines. Only a keyway and woodruff key
Your mechanic forgot to tight it to spec. 162# or more.
This mechanic messed up my 98 civic i rebulit everything and change every single thing on the car and when i ask him to change the water pump and timing belt he didnt put the ping right and it stripped everythibg and the bolt stripped the inside and tbe car is just there sitting 😪
Oh wow that's horrible, so what happened to the civic?
Jasmine & Father Garage i still have its just sitting there you have a fb i can show you
Oh wow he wojld have to buy u a new engine the thing with those type of cases u would have to prove in civil court that his work was the reason
Did your prelude run with the wobble crank pulley how did it sound?
Like a rod knock that comes an goes
Is the crank not suppose to spin ?
On a loose pulley or missing woodruff key 'Yes' Sir the crank pulley not suppose to spin like that.
Why didn't you show how the key way goes on?
yeah that is a vital piece of information
Rubber in the ring detaching as well
The rubber is part in the crank pulley. Replace the pulley with new ones
My crank pulley is still wobbling even after replacing the key and the pulley
The pulley brand new not used?
@jfGarage4k Used. Sourced from wreckers. Very good condition, though
Your rubber dampeners are still intact. how ironic.
Oh Ya I know! lucky it was just the crank pulley Not the crank shaft😥
Can start or not
Hi. At the end of this video Yes we start up the engine and it started really good, first turned key she start
u skipped the whole putting the belt on again
Hey thanks for the comments. Yes i did skipped it, its pretty easy to install the belt, i dint wanna record the boring part. alot of videos on here how to install the belts on H22.
