That point in the Arroyo was named the Devil's Gate long before the damn was built. So why is it that everyone assumes that a control slough, built into the damn, IS the Devil's Gate? It's the natural choke point of the Arroyo right there at the profile rock that is the "gate". And you ignored- or perhaps just didn't get around to it in your ten minute Google search, the real reason that people think that area is charged with dark energy. It's also the reason it's tied to the Colorado Street Bridge suicides. Parson's and Co. did more than test rockets just north of that site in the Arroyo (next to where JPL stands today).
What I enjoyed the most, was that you guys did not make it a mockery, you were respectful. Oh and I would also have to agree... You can NEVER have to many flashlights lol Everyone who knows me, always jokes that in an apocalypse, I would have enough flashlights for everyone haha it is really sad, but true =)

Years back, I think it was 1991 while working on a TV Show, we were shooting at the Devil's Gate Dam. Myself and other crew persons got to go inside the machinery house on top of the dam. Inside this room we viewed the hydraulic cylinders and controls that would lift up the gates that you visited. Thank you for the visit.

Funny, I worked security temporarily at a highrise in Pasadena a little over 20 years ago called "Parsons Infrastructure", off Lake Ave. The place gave me the WILLYS!!!!!!! Employees were OUT THERE!!!!! GLAD I left when I did, from what you mentioned in this video.

My Experiences @ Devil's Gate Dam: I've been there twice. Both times I went the gate was unlocked. The first attempt didn't happen because the swamp at the entrance was way too deep because it was raining and there way no way in hell I was using that old ladder. The second time was actually creepy AF. The swamp was dried up so we just walked straight up to the entrance. (I wasn't alone this time. took my brother and his gf after a hike to explore some more.) And right when we we're unwrapping the chain to go in I noticed a head pop out from the bushes to the left of the entrance. The bushes had women's clothing hanging on it so I figured it was just someone getting lucky. Right when we opened the gate to go inside this homeless Mexican guy surprised us from behind. He was asking us (in Spanish) why we were going in there and blocked us from entering. He stated that he had never been inside and always wanted to go. He was shirtless and as he was talking I noticed he had a knife on his waist, a woman's pink hiking shirt hanging from his back pocket and scratch marks all over his body. Mid sentence he got defensive and kept asking us if we were there to take him back to the insane asylum he escaped from. He was begging us not to and at that point we were weirded out and were hoping he'd leave. He then told us he could show us around in there because he goes in there all the time which contradicted his original story that he'd never been inside. We declined his offer and he warned us about the devil inside and walked back into the bushes. By that point I was amped to go in but my brother and his gf refused to because they said he was sketchy and would probably try to rob us when we were outside. His gf was caring alot of cash at the time and even though both my brother and I had knives on us he didn't want to risk it. So we left and vowed we would return at night with more ppl. It's been 2 years since but we still plan on going. P.s You guys should explore the abondon mining caves in Pasadena. They're deeper than the dam and are really creepy. They're a hidden off trail gem 👍
Nice Vid. When I explored it, that gate wasn't over the access tunnel. BTW, that's not the actual Devil's Gate. The Devil's Gate is reference of the narrow gap in the canyon where the Devil's Profile is. This was before the flood control dam was build.
Multiple locks on a chain that create the chain like that are so that multiple different people have access so if there were 10 lakhs there are at least that many keys out there and that many people or agencies with access. That's an old military trick
