How to add Copyright Info using a DSLR (i.e. Nikon D3400, Canon, Sony, etc.)
HTML-код

- If you want to protect your photos, consider adding copyright information. This is a quick video showing how to use your camera to add copyright information to photos. I demo using the Nikon D3400 but this method will apply to most cameras (other Nikon, Canon, Sony, etc.).
Will this stop someone from taking your photos? No, but help identify overall ownership of images. This is just one of many steps that can be taken to help safeguard your photos if so desired.

As you said, just a little more protection to make sure your photos are your creation and not someone else's. Thanks for the vid!
Glad to be of help!:) Agreed - just one more relatively easy step to tag your photos.
Need Watermark tutorial for videos and pics... U r the best... I also have a d3400...
Do like if u guys want that video... Thnkx...
I like the straight to the point tutorial and directions easy to follow. Thanks
Thanks for the feedback and glad to be of help!:)
Came here for this information and it was right to the point. Thankyou so much. Carolyn from Australia.
Thanks for the post and glad to be of help!:)
Clear and concise information re copyright information. When will you be demonstrating the watermark RUclips? Looking forward to seeing it. Thanks.
Cool, never knew I could do that, i'll be filling that copyright info when I get my D3400 back!
Just wondering whether you'll be covering prime lenses any time soon as I'm interested in picking one up for an upgrade over the kit lens.
great video as always, keep it up. :)
Thanks for the post/feedback Luke!:) I created a portrait video using the fixed 50 f/1.8 attached to a D7000 which can be found here - ruclips.net/video/Dun-ANF5evQ/видео.html I may do another video with the fixed 50 and D3400 though.
RealWorld thanks for the reply! I'll have look at that video.
Looking forward to any future videos :)
Luke G. I have a D3400. I bought the Nikkor 50mm 1.8G fixed prime lens which is an FX lens, but can be used on cropped sensors or full frame sensor cameras. I absolutely love this lens. Low light and wide aperture. Image bokeh is phenomenal
Andrew Riddell interesting, I'm also looking at that lens although I'm not sure whether the vocal lengths is to limiting, so I'm also looking at the 35mm as I've heard its a 50mm equivalent on crop sensors.
Hi there I’m experiencing a couple of quirks with my new refurbished D 3400. I went to a party and took a lot of photographs and as I was bringing them up to edit them on my computer some of them said it’s a read file only! I have no idea how that happened and I was afraid I had ruined all the pictures I had taken. But it only happened to a couple and I don’t know why. That’s the first problem the second problem is I was shooting a bunch of pictures in the house randomly To test a lens. When I went to delete those experimental pictures there were three of them that said they were protected and couldn’t be deleted. I don’t know how as I did not select anything to protect them. How do I unprotect them and how did they get protected in the first place. This all happened in a matter of about three minutes.....Is this a quirk of a refurbished camera. Thanks for your help
Thanks for this quick tutorial, and thanks for sharing a link to your Instagram. I love your videos, and I will definitely be following you on Instagram. That said, I would also be very interested to learn more about watermarking images. Specifically why, when, and how it can/should be done. Thanks again, and keep the videos coming!
Glad to be of help and thanks for the feedback!:)
You all probably dont give a shit but does anyone know a trick to log back into an instagram account?
I was dumb forgot my password. I would love any help you can give me!
@Luis Leonard Instablaster =)
@Joseph Walker Thanks for your reply. I found the site on google and I'm in the hacking process now.
Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Joseph Walker It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thank you so much you really help me out :D
Thank you for this great tutorial like me still searching how to use my new camera
Glad to be of help!:) This camera is loaded with various features (along with many others). Once you gain a better understanding of the features, your photography will grow:).
nice video, I'm interested in watermark tutorial too! :)
Hi love all the videos but I have tried to switch on my copyright function on my D5300 and I can’t find it in the menu please can you advise on this .
Thanks for the feedback/question!:) I am not 100% certain, but I do not believe the feature exists in the D5300.
Thanks so. Much for this great video and I have question that i am confused that inwanted to buy a wide angke zoom lens foe landscape and astro photography as i have canon 1300d crop sensor so please help me out 😊
Glad to be of help!:) Do you currently have a zoom lens with the 1300d? If so, what is the range? I like the 18 side of the typically 18-55. You could get a wider angle if needed.
RealWorld Thanks for the help. I have 18-55mm but its kit lens i want any good wide angle zoom lens from which i can do lanscape and astro photography where there no light.
How do you find the info imbedded in the photo once it’s posted? Or sent etc
Nice I got many idea from you thank you..i used Nikon d3400 that why I like your suggestions.
glad to be of help!:)
RealWorld 👍👍👍👌👌👌👌
Great video, I’ve always done this in Lightroom but this is far better as it’s there from the start. I very rarely post online as I give my prints to a charity and I don’t want any commitments due to my health, on the very rare occasions I do I have an action that shrinks the image right down so it’s impossible to make a print. I once did have an image stolen, it wasn’t the fad it was stolen that bothered me as much as it was by a photo journalist and he did such a terrible job of re-editing it and he made my blue tit into a strange purple bird. Thank you for this one, and it’s under the yellow tab for canon cameras if anyone is interested.
Thanks for the post/feedback Mark:). I've had various images taken/borrowed over the years as well and know the feeling. I've had a few companies reach out to me after seeing images I snapped during the 500 one year. Typically, larger companies are good about following the right/prudent path ... it's the individuals and/or smaller groups to watch out for:).
RealWorld Strangely enough Chelsea and Tony Northrup released a video today about having one of their images stolen.
Interesting - I suspect it happens quite often unfortunately. Based on recent feedback, I plan to create a video on watermarking soon which is of more help in prevention.
The "Artist" point is quite self-explanatory, but what is that second "Copyright" entry for? Just for the year or what else could be supposed to put in there?
Mainly for the year but i suspect you could enter anything:).
@@RealWorld Okay, thanks. 😃
Another great video. I would like to see how to water mark pics .
Thanks for the post/feedback!:)
my favorite Nikon channel but why even though i added Copyright the photo can let you change author of the photo
I always like your videos not just for the sake of it but because they are really informative... simple but technically very strong...i've learn a lot..... btw, i have a sony a68.. overall it's great for an entry level, took some nice photos with it but im not sure if it has this copyright feature.. if you do know anything please share it with me..
Thanks for the post/feedback!:) Unfortunately, I do not believe the a68 has any similar features although you can manipulate the meta data in post edit using a tool like Lightroom:).
@@RealWorld thanks a lot.. i guess i will try that out.
Thanks, man now I will not need watermark
Plzzz upload how to make cinematic videos using 30fps or 24fps etc etc in nikon D3400,am one of ur big fan
Thanks for the post/feedback!:) I have added it to the list:).
i like you man because every time have a great music, absolutely amazing view a video
Thanks for the post/feedback and glad to be of help!:) Finding music is interesting and more challenging than what many might think:).
Great one you have been always so helpful 👍👍👍
Thanks for the post/feedback and glad to be of help!:)
Great! I even didn't know about this feature!!! Thanks!!! Love your channel!
Thanks for the post/feedback and welcome to the channel!:)
My d3200 does not have the copyright information drop down. How can I still add it to the set up menu?
unfortunately the D3200 does not have the option ... this will need to be done in post processing outside the camera:)
can you give me a link of what tripod you used for D3400. Thank you
not a problem - i created a quick video which might be of help ... ruclips.net/video/UGf070YTkuw/видео.html
thank you for the reply, can you make a video on how to make money as beginner photographer. I already have skills in photoshop and lightroom. i bought D3400 yesterday and i just waiting to come this weekend.
can you tell about how did you make money when you first bought your dslr cam coz i don't know how to get started.
This might make for a good video!:) Stay tuned as I have a handful of thoughts on this topic:).
OK I figured out how to unprotect the images. Apparently the problem is because I’m using the back button focus, because to unprotect a protective photo you have to hit the ATL/AFL button. So I believe that problem is solved maybe I won’t be able to use back button focus. Another problem since going through that issue now when I hit the replay button up black box comes up with all of the information of the picture. I can hit the? Button and it will go away but at the lower right corner there is a yellow box around the image and then that goes away. If I tried to delete it at that point the black box reappears. now I cannot use the preview button to see the pictures because as soon as I hit the arrow keys left and right to advance pic taken....it brings up that black box. I have looked in the manual online but I can’t come up with this, or how to stop it.
Thanks for the post:). Back button focus is great and works well but one quick note ... if you take a shot and quickly take another shot using BBF while the image is still in preview mode on the screen, you will lock/protect the image (I did the same when I first started using BBF:)). When you preview the images back on the camera, you will see a small key/lock icon on the image. If you press the AE-L/AF-L button when previewing any image, you can toggle the lock/protect feature:).
Yes I believe you are absolutely correct about hitting the back button focus well the image you just tag is displayed on the LCD. That is how those images got locked. Thank you for confirming that, and thank you for all your help!
Hi I'm using a nikon d5300 and i couldn't find the copyright information on my menu, what should i do?
Unfortunately, the D5300 does not offer this feature.
on my Nikon d 750 Nikon did the most brainless thing, you can't delete things or go back :( So user unfriendly
you would think after 5 firmware updates the would fix this ?
Hi, What I would like to do is add my name onto my pictures. I see pictures on facebook that have the creators names on them. How can I do that. I have a Canon T7
Thanks for the post/question elizabeth:). Sounds like you want to watermark your images which is doable using various packages. I created a video stepping through one package which works well ... ruclips.net/video/uroEc86IaHM/видео.html
I have D5600
On my screen after photo is taken, it shows the copyright on my camera view, how do I remove that so I can view photo?
Thanks for the post/question Jody:). Are you able to view some of the image but have an overlay of information? If so, try pressing the up or down pad on the backside of the camera. Pressing up or down will rotate information imposed on the image (i.e. histogram, etc.). Hope that helps!:)
Watermark tutorials....yes!
Thanks for the feedback!:)
How can you see your copyright on your photo and when I downloaded my photos I’m not able to see it either ?? Would love to get an answer thanks in advance Marjan Richard
Thanks for the post/question Marjan:). The copyright information is stored in the exif data included in the image/file. If you want to place your name on the image, you will need to water mark it. I created a video on a water mark utility which works well ... ruclips.net/video/uroEc86IaHM/видео.html
Does the D3200 not have the copyright information setting?
I do not believe so.
@@RealWorld Aww ok.
I’ve followed these instructions and still do not have the copyright information in the metadata on my photos. How can that be?
This is a late reply, however if you entered the information, it should appear in the meta data ... interesting:).
What is your instagram details? Great post and would like to know how to watermark my photos on the d3400. Thanks again.
Thanks for the post/feedback Nick:). instagram.com/realworldpicts ... watermarks are nice but need to occur outside the camera. I may create a vid on how-to using various programs.
Real-world..I'll follow on instagram
Nice and simple tutorial, thank you! As for a watermark tutorial, please, please, please can you do one??? Many thanks from a subscriber in a place called Wales (the bit attached to the west coast of England...)
Thanks for the post and welcome from the United States!:) Based on recent response, a watermark video will be coming soon:).
How do you put the name of the photographer on the image? Is this something you do in post editing?
There are various methods to make this happen. Nonetheless, I created a video on watermarking which might be of some help - ruclips.net/video/uroEc86IaHM/видео.html
Cool! Please let us know how to do watermark
It works for me..thank you so much..
Hi I’m 2nd. 🤗🤗
First reply :D
first reply to the first reply. ;D
Pls show us how would this info appear on the pictures?
this will not show when viewing the image, however it is stored in the meta data attached to the image :)
How could I make it on my Nikon 3200? Please could you help me?
unfortunately, this is not an option on the D3200, however you can edit the EXIF data in post processing using various tools ... might be another video idea:).
@@RealWorld that's look hard for me lol, I don't know about these stuff but I did something today, I make a new folder storage, if you can check it in the video you have it named D3200 so I make a new one with an own name for me so in the Metadata it will be appear ;) so it will be like something similar to copyright. Check it out if you can and tell me if I'm right. Sorry but it's the first time I use these options, I'm a scale cars model photographer, check @elieksarkis on Instagram and will be a pleasure to know your feedback on my shots and captions :)
When will we be seeing your watermark video? 😄
VERY soon:). I plan to have in ready in the next day or two:). Stay tuned!:)
When will you review Canon 200D ??
Thanks for the post/suggestion:). I have added it to my list of upcoming videos just need to get my hands on one:).
Make one video on watermark pls
I think were are no such a settings on D3300.
Sad
You are correct - the D3300 does not offer the same.
I'm curious why your always using Nikon D3400?
Great question!:) While I also use and enjoy various Canon and Sony cameras, I simply chose the D3400 because I had quick access to it and it seems many people have questions about it:). I plan to use other cameras as I get my hands on them.
RealWorld what's the best dslr for you sony, canon or nikon?
if mirrorless, go sony ... if mirrored and looking for photos, Nikon ... if mirrored and looking for video, Canon:).
I knew that setting, but did this copyright setting ever stop any thief to steal any photo? You can embed this data, but everybody could remove the data again (or, more naughty, store his own copyright). Except for, maybe, in the RAW file which nobody would share on the internet. So for me, it sounds quite useless, a watermark could be more usefull.
Thanks for the post/feedback:). Agreed, the copyright info will stop a thief but it acts a one deterrent in the overall prevention effort. Ultimately, a large watermark is the best option but the photographer must carefully consider placement as to not impede optimum viewing. Based on recent feedback, I plan to create a watermark video soon - stay tuned:).
This setting is not appearing on my Nikon D5300. Purchased in November, 2017. Please help!!!
Unfortunately, the D5300 does not have a copyright specific field. Fortunately, the D5300 does have a comment field/section:). Please the copyright information in the comment section and this will embed in the metadata.
RealWorld just like the one this setting(copyright information) does?
Will it be the same?
Very similar. Both copyright and comments are in the metadata attached to each image. The location in which the copyright information is stored is not as important as the content itself. As long as you have copyright information attached to the image, you will have covered one base of proper diligence.
RealWorld thanx a lot! Thank you for sharing this amazing feature!
I have start shooting in raw but instead of getting a file size about 31MB I am getting almost 18MB why ?
Hmmmm ... what camera are you using? File size will vary by the subject/scene. A complete black or white file will yield a much smaller size compared to an image with lots of detail. If you take the same shot in RAW and another in JPEG, your RAW should always be larger to some extent.
RealWorld Nikon d3400 .. yup I got it ..
Would love to see a watermark video. Please..... :)
Thanks for the feedback!:)
Hi, How do you add a space between your first and last name?
The space key is located next to the underscore (_).
Thank you! :)
Once made for canon 600d this setting is not given in that
Hmmm ... typically, back button focus is available on most cameras.
Waiting for your watermark video tutorial
Thanks alot that is what l want to know
how can i keep de iris open when attaching extension tubes on nikon d3200?
When you remove the lens, you should see a small metal tab on the lens side that attaches to the camera. You can easily metal tab to open and close the aperture. Since the tab appears to be spring loaded, you might be able to tape the tab down, etc.
Also I don't know how many know this but your camera's serial number is embedded into the meta data file.
Thanks for the post/note Dennis!:) I may mention this in my next video (based on recent feedback, I plan to create a watermark video soon:)).
Yes show how to water mark, awesome video.
Thanks for the post/feedback Scott!:) Based on recent feedback, I plan to create a watermark video soon - stay tuned:).
Great tutorial!!
Would it be possible to connect an Android as a live monitor for a Nikon d3400
Unfortunately, I do not believe so.
RealWorld Thanks for everything without your CLEAR instructions i wouldn't have know much about my camera.
Glad to be of help!:)
RealWorld i found a way all you need is a micro usb data cable, OTG adapter and the app Qdslrboard. Ive tried it and it works perfect.
Thanks for the follow-up and great to know!:) I used an OTG cable to create a time lapse which can be found here - ruclips.net/video/QF3gugula7M/видео.html
Thank you for that information sir
Glad to be of help!:)
Good
Hmm...never knew I could do that...
Thank you interested in water marks
Can i use HDR in nikon d3400
Achintya Patra no you can't ! That feature is removed but you can use it in Nikon D3300
You can't use native HDR on the D3300, just d-lighning. HDR can still be done manually with a tripod and different exposures
lovely thanks
please do a video on watermarks.
In the works - stay tuned!:)
Great..
Thanks!
Need watermark tutorial for Nikon D5100 please.
I created a vid using a watermark software which works well ... ruclips.net/video/uroEc86IaHM/видео.html
I did that and it DIDN'T show in background info
Ok....Sorry to be such a pest. I turned off everything in the playback display options and now they’re black box is gone but so is everything else. It was appearing on top of every picture as I would try to review the pictures. I have a half a dozen cameras and I have never experienced this....Thank you for listening anyway, smile
not a problem:). when previewing any image and pressing the up/down arrows, you will see detailed image information which is expected/normal. if you press the ? button when previewing any image, you will see a yellow box which is expected/normal as well:). The ? button acts at the zoom out function when previewing which means you will see more images and the selected/current image is highlighted with a yellow box. if you press the button above the ? button, you will zoom back to normal:).
@@RealWorld actually..........I couldn't get rid of that black box.....BUT went into menu (don't have my camera now in front of me) and where you check for histogram, data....I guess what you will see when you press info?.......I unchecked the last one.....actually for now, I unck'd all except the first one....and....that black box that wouldn't move is gone.....!!!
Great!
Glad to be of help!:)
Thanks for the video, but not exactly correct. The Artist field is for who took the photo for information only. The copyright field is where the copyright holder information goes; something like this: "Copyright 'year', 'name', "All rights reserved." The artist may not be the copyright holder. This is not legal advice, just information. Also good to include an email address so you can be found in someone proposes a possible violation. Also better to spell out "Copyright" as I understand it. One may not be fully protected unless the fields are filled out properly, although technically and legally the copyright applied when the image is taken.
Good points William. Copyright is actually established when the images is taken regardless of what is attached to the image.
Thx
grazie
John Dope
Example pictures with copyright?
I snapped a handful of picts but you will need to view the exif data to see the copyright:).
Can you add a copyright on a canon 4000D?
I do not believe so:).
Yes water mark is coming soon !
Thank you for the video.
I didn't find on nikon d3300
You will need to add it in the comments field (Menu > Setup Menu > Image Comments (I believe)). The comments field is attached to the exif data and will attach to each image:).
RealWorld thanx your video are very helpful , I learned all features of my camera from your videos.
👍just fired up instagram again, (777pilgrim), following
Good to see you on!:)
RealWorld 😎
Great review.
Thanks for the feedback!:)
You welcome I have the d3490 still trying to figure out how to work it
Stay with it and you will soon get the hang of it:).
Thanks
Do you recommend this gimbal for camera sites.google.com/site/DjiRoninS
There isn’t copyright infló ni Nikon D5300
hmmmm - interesting. I will need to research the D5300 a bit more. I wonder if Nikon inserted the copyright feature in a firmware update.
Hi
Just use lightroom ;-)
Nice if you have Lightroom, but if not, you can easily place the information in the camera:).
RealWorld lightroom is free and on Google play ;-) i don't know if it costs on Apple, like everything else :-P
Show us how to do it on the Canon EOS R7
Please can you confirm if Nikon D750 has setting for date and time printed on photos, or please suggest cameras with this function
Hmmm ... I am not certain but each file will capture the date/time. I am not certain if the camera is capable of imposing the date/time on the actual image though:).
In Canon 600d can do or not
unfortunately, no - this is not a feature on the 600d.
