I just discovered your channel today and have been binge watching your videos on the Nikon D3400. You inspired me to get off Auto setting and learn what the camera can really do. So happy to see a cleaning video from you...you’re a great instructor for beginners! Happy to be a new subscriber!
@@RealWorld Hi. I recently bought second hand d5300(shutter count below 1000). Camera is in mint condition except one tiny detail(sensor is spotless). When I look through viewfinder I see few dust particles. Mirror and outer focusing screen look clean. I'm guessing it's inner side of focusing screen or some dust in pentamirror. It's bit annoying but doesn't have impact on photos. Should I just leave it as it is or send it somewhere for small maintenance? I found your channel a couple of weeks ago, and find the videos very helpful. I bought my D3400 a little over a year ago. Is there a link to ALL your videos? Thanks!
Great video but...... if you really want to know if there is dust or other contamination on your sensor I suggest you do what I did when I had an issue with my old D40 some years ago. Remove the lens after setting the camera to Bulb mode and making sure it will shoot with no lens attached. Point the camera at a large, mainly white surface such as a painted wall or ceiling (you can do this indoors). Whilst moving the camera body, press and hold the shutter release and make an exposure of about 10 seconds, count to 10 if it helps. Keep the camera moving the whole time during the exposure until you have released the shutter button and heard the shutter close. Quickly place a body cap or lens on the camera. Examine the resulting image on your computer screen. Any contamination will be obvious - anything blurred is probably a mark on your wall or other surface you were pointing at, whereas any distinct shape is something on the sensor. Don't forget that the image is reversed, so dust on the bottom left of your image is actually top right on the sensor. When you think you have the sensor clean, try the above again, just to be sure. In my case it took about 6 or 7 cleaning attempts before I got a spotless sensor, do idea how so much stuff landed on the sensor but once I had given it a thorough clean, to the best of my knowledge (and visibility on the images I've shot), it's stayed clean to this day.
Thanks for the great video as always. I can see some participial when I look through the Viewfinder eyepiece and I can't seem to find a way to clean it up. at first, I thought it was on the mirror but after cleaning up and checking the different views on camera, it seems this is on the Viewfinder eyepiece. Can you please help me with this? Many thanks
Thanks for the post/feedback Chris!:) Not a problem ... many post editing packages can handle RAW images (like Lightroom, etc.). If you are trying to simply click on the file and view on the screen, your computer will most likely error. RAW files are - RAW and need to be processed:). The beauty of shooting in RAW means you will capture everything the camera's sensor is capable of capturing. This allows you to post process the image(s) in whatever manner you like allowing for loads of creative influence. You can use Adobe's DNG converter (free) to convert your RAW images into DNG (DNG is a generic form of RAW (Digital NeGative)). I created a video using Adobe's Lightroom which discusses and demos the converter ( ruclips.net/video/tqd_Cnk-FBM/видео.html ). If all of this sounds like a mess, you might consider shooting in JPEG (after converting/processing your currect RAW files:)).
Chris, I use Irfanview and/or Faststone Image viewer to look at photos on my computer before working on them in Lightroom if needed. Both programs have some basic editing features, as well as the ability to convert into other formats. (And both are free or donation-ware). Also, sometimes in order to see stars captured by the camera I have to zoom them to 50% or higher because the standard ~16% view is too small for the stars to show.
Thanks for the post/question:). My portrait lens of choice is the Nikon fixed 50mm f/1.8 ( amzn.to/2kD7EkF ) ... I created a review of the lens which might be of help and can be found here - ruclips.net/video/e2TZVu7yZig/видео.html
Very useful many thanks. Do you use canon much? I just changed from Nikon d3400 to sl2 eos200d my Nikon didn't produce pin sharp images. Canon getting better results.
I’ve watched your videos for some time now and I’ve been wanting a Nikon D3400, but had the opportunity to buy a Nikon D3000 instead, so I was wondering if you had any pointers for a beginner. I want to learn as much as I can for the best possible picture quality I can get.
Congrats on the camera and welcome to the wonderful world of photography!:) I can appreciate the D3000 - an older camera but still capable:). I would take a look at the following video I created which is a good starting point: ruclips.net/video/6I3jtQfd-sU/видео.html
Me again,,, LOL... my nikon d3400 isn't a full frame camera,, and want an ulta wide lense for landscapes when i go on vacations..... is the nikon 10-20mm compatible with my d3400 directly, or do i have to buy an attachment,,, and is it a good lense for my needs??
I'm starting to worry about plastic waste so the sensor swab to me is a no no. Would be interested if you know any more eco friendly solution? Other than that, great video as always.
Ahhhhh yes, good/respected point!:) Hmmmm ... I wonder if there is a wooden handled swab? I just took a quick look but did not find any - seems like a good idea!:)
Hi realwold, I’ve just ordered a rocket that looked the same as the one you used, but it turns out it’s not a Giotto (hope this isn’t a problem) I’m using a d3400 as well, could you tell me what size swab I should be using please? Many thanks in advance, keep up the great work 🎥🔥 also, do you have an Instagram page where you show off your photography?
I like the Giotto but there are many other options that should do the trick:). You will need a Type 2 swab (Type 3 is used for full sensors). A good Type 2 is amzn.to/2KCkSdQ ... feel free to follow me on IG as well - instagram.com/realworldpicts
Hi. Between Nikkor 18-200mm and Tamron 18-200mm, which you think is better? Nikkor lens cost almost thrice the Tamron lens and there DxoMark is almost same. Thanks
I have used both:). While the Nikon may have a sliiiiiiight edge, I would lean towards the Tamron and save some money (just my two cents:)). After shooting with the Tamron 18-200, I sold it and purchased a used Nikon 18-200 (I had a great deal on the Nikon). The Nikon felt a bit more solid but I felt that resulting images were very similar.
lol - i typically hold by the largest/heaviest component. while the mounts are plastic, they are solid and i have never experienced any issues with warping/etc. :)
I have a camera question.... I'm going on an Alaskan cruise and I'm buying a Nikon d3400,,, which lense should i use while I'm on the ship to get the best landscape shots of beautiful Alaska....???
Thanks for the post William - sounds like you are set for a great adventure!:) I like the 18-55 kit lens and believe it can do a decent job, however if you want a dedicated wide angle lens to better capture landscapes, you might consider the Sigma 10-20 ( amzn.to/2QQWQ19 ) ... a good/solid/capable lens in my opinion:).
Mainly for zoom shoots ... anything you might need to get up-close (a good lens to take on your trip in my opinion as you may want to capture something in the distances as well). I created a video on the 70-300 which might be of help - ruclips.net/video/1RaXjNuD6ls/видео.html
Sir, as you told me to buy this nikon d 3400.....i bought it.thank you sir ......sir please can you tell me If the sun's light is full and there's enough light to take the image..then what should be the value of aperture., iso,and shutter speed , to blur ver niceely prefectly..plz tell....i know that that it depends upon the light.....but what should be their value for excellent blur
Thanks for the post/feedback and glad to be of help!:) In order to achieve a nice/smooth background, you will want a wide open aperture. I might suggest moving into aperture mode and opening the aperture as wide as possible - set the ISO to 100 (or if on auto ISO, the camera may use 100 if you have enough light) and let the camera control the shutter. The 18-55 kit lens will do a decent job but the fixed 35 or fixed 50 will do better as they both open to f/1.8 which is great for portraits (I have videos on both the fixed 35 and fixed 50 which might be of some help).
excellent video as always. I was just wondering if you can make a review of Yongnuo´s chinese lens wich are very cheap and in my opinion they are great for the price. thank you.
You can but dust in the viewfinder is relatively common. Since it does not impact the image and providing it is not incredible intrusive, I leave it:).
To really get a thorough view of the dirt in the sensor, it is best to close the aperture all the way down and shoot at a bright continuous surface with the focus completely off and preferably with a low exposure so you can move the camera a bit while shooting. That shot will only show what’s on the sensor. Also, I think you should always have a cleaning solution on your swab, never use it dry.
Cheers! For 3 weeks starting February 13 next year, I am in South Carolina! Including my 20th birthday on the 15th, I will be taking hundreds of pictures!
Thanks for making this video, it will help me cuz in February next year i am getting my own Nikon D3400 + 18-105mm lens! And maybe later ill collect money for zoom lens and that stuff. :D Great videos! Stay awesome. :)
I started photography 5 years ago, and still doing it with an old CASIO EXILIM EX-Z77 it makes good shots, but only 7.2 megapixels... moving on from 7 to 24 will be great! :) Also could you make some video abbout trainspotting? I love doing that and i wish i could find more tips and tricks online!
I have another question.... which is better for an amateur like me just starting out.... lightroom or photoshop?? I know they both offer different benefits, but i don't need both yet....... if it helps, about 80% of all my pics will be of my family and maybe some city and the occasional romantic trail walks with the wife
I have used both for many years and would suggest Lightroom. Photoshop is great for detailed image manipulation, but I almost always turn to Lightroom for post edits:).
Not a huge difference between the two - they both share the same sensor and resolution. If you can get the D3400 on sale, go for it in my opinion. I will create a detailed review of the D3500 as soon as I can get my hands on one.
Hi, i have a question about the durability of the Nikon d3300. I like to go mountain biking and I would like to bring my camera, would it be okay to place it in my camera bag and then put in in my backpack? Or will the vibration from riding on harder surfaces break my camera ? is it safe or should i avoid that completely ?
Thanks for the post/question Ugnius!:) You should be fine ... In addition to trailing hiking/running, I bike a bunch as well and take my camera:). My camera has been tossed around without any issue and runs fine today:). Get out and have some fun!:)

Hi !! How are you? Great video!!! I got a question. I have a question. MY 1080 hd videos that I record with any camera doesn't play at full HD on my Mac desktop( it's a new one) or and on my mac air laptop. It degrades a lot. 4K works fine. The same footage plays perfectly on my Iphone and Ipad and 10 year old Dell. Do you know what the problem is? Thank you so much Jose
Thanks for the post/question:). Do well or as well as can be expected!:) Unfortunately, macbook air does not support 1080p (a resolution of 1920x1080). The macbook will easily scale down though. I am not certain what version of the desktop you have but I suspect the same might be true although most desktops should not have an issue. Macbook air supports the following: 1440 x 900 (native), 1280 x 800, 1152 x 720, 1024 x 640
Hi sir Good day. I am a newbie in photography and I am a d3400 shooter. I just want to ask if there is a teleconverter compatible for a af-p 70-300mm kit lens?
You might consider the Kenko 1..4 ( amzn.to/2OvlGlM ). This works well with various prime lenses but I have not tried it with a zoom (suspect it will work fine as well though).
I have a question for you? I am thinking about upgrading from my d3200 to d7000. I have bought a couple lenses but they are not dx lenses so with the 3200 I have no autofocus. I have found these lenses are cheaper to pick up and easier to find. Will I miss the difference between the megapixels between the two and will I give up any quality. Thanks for any help with this.
Just to clarify, you stated 'I have bought a couple lenses but they are not dx lenses' ... did you mean they ARE dx lenses?:). DX lenses are less expensive and do not have AF motors. This means you will need a camera body with built-in AF like the 7000 series in order to use AF:). I have both the D3400 and D7000. The 7000 is a beast - relatively heavy compared to the D3200, weather sealed, etc. I used the D7000 for many years with good success. You will drop from 24mp to 16mp but it's not too bad in my opinion unless you plan to create large prints:). I might consider the transition from the D3200 to the D7000 a bit more of a lateral move, although I would definitely feel more confident taking the D7000 into a challenging environment (sand, rain, etc.). The D7200 would be a nice step-up if your budget allows:).
@@RealWorld I have been getting my lenses second hand at pawn shops and to find anything other then a dx kit lens is hard around here. I just got a 70-300 f4-5.6 I think it is for $45 and a 50mm 1.8 for $65. I couldn't pass these up but because I have the d3200 autofocus will not work on my camera. I will take your advise and see what I can come up with thanks for your help.
Hello sir, glad for sharing your knowledge, I'm Nikon D3400 user which I bought few days back and I am following your channel since a week. I had few doubts that need to be clarified which I cannot post here because that are too lengthy to write. So can you please share your email so that I can shoot the question there. Thanks
Not a problem and glad to be of help!:) You can try to send a message to realworldpicts@gmail.com ... I do not check it too often but will try to keep an eye on it:).
will not hurt to try although ensure you are in a relatively clean environment. hair dryers will suck air from the back of the unit and you want to ensure you are not sucking in dust, etc.:) in addition, use the cold air option if the blow dryer has one.
Does the camera focus hunt for all lenses? I suspect an issue with the lens, the mirror, and/or focusing system itself. I use single point focus almost exclusively. Do you have this issue with all focus modes as well?
@@RealWorld when I use 50mm prime with c continuous af, this is in video mode not photo. is there a way to have af in video with out using manual focus?
Ahhhh yes, I have been down this path before:). When I first got the D3400, I attempted to capture video with continuous focus but the focus would constantly hunt and adjust - it was frustrating. I later got my hands on a Canon 80D and the focus was awesome. I realized Canon created a lens to help with silent focus - the STM lens. Soon after, Nikon released their version of a silent focus lens which I later tested and it works well! Any Nikon lens that is designated AF-P is much better suited for continuous auto focus for video IMO:). The standard AF-S will work, but the focus will hunt/adjust and make noises along the way:).
I have a D3400 and the viewfinder is sensitive for dust no clue why I already used the rocket blower. I didn't do any extreme spectacular weather photography I Was just outside... Please advise
Ahhhhh yes, the viewfinder is another story:). My viewfinders are filled with dust:). The air rocket or compressed air might do the trick. I do not pay much attention to it as it does not impact the overall impact nor my ability to view the scene. Nonetheless, nice to keep it clean though:).
Cause any dust particles stuck in the sensor cause its wet .. and u can easily identify whether any dust particles are on the mirror by looking into it ..
If something is on the mirror, it will not appear on the image:). The mirror lifts up prior to capturing any image, so anything on the mirror will not be on the image.
@@RealWorld Interesting. Have you ever cleaned the camera's mirror? It must get dusty. I have had to do the D7200s sensor once about 8 months ago and today noticed three circles on an image, confirmed by the test shots so thought I'd view this video again. Blowing using my rocket sadly did not work.
Talks about keeping dust off the sensor by keeping the camera pointing down while changing lenses. While doing so outside anon the wind (as heard through his microphone).

Can you do a clip on video recording with a DSLR and the best settings to use. I've got a Nikon D5300 and not sure what to set it to. Thanks!
I found your channel a couple of weeks ago, and find the videos very helpful. I bought my D3400 a little over a year ago. Is there a link to ALL your videos? Thanks!
Thanks for the post/feedback Ron!:) You should be able to see all video on my channel's main page - ruclips.net/user/realworld
Subscribed and bookmarked. Thanks!
Welcome to the channel!:)
Thanks for the post/tip Christopher!:) A good/solid tip that would do the trick as well.
Many thanks
Sir very informative video, thank you. Kindly tell about tripods also. Which tripod i should but for d3400, 300mm
Thank you
Wow. I was going to ask you to do video like this. Thank you for all the great videos
Glad to be of help!:) I received a handful of similar questions and thought this would be a good time to create the video:).
Love your vids. I'm in dire need how to get my raw files of astrophotography viewable on my computer. Tried everything nothing is working.
Chris,
I use Irfanview and/or Faststone Image viewer to look at photos on my computer before working on them in Lightroom if needed. Both programs have some basic editing features, as well as the ability to convert into other formats. (And both are free or donation-ware). Also, sometimes in order to see stars captured by the camera I have to zoom them to 50% or higher because the standard ~16% view is too small for the stars to show.
Hello! I own a nikkond3400 and i decided over buying a new lens. I was wondering if you could reccommend me a good one for portraits
Good and simple waiting for this, welldone for the shared
I’ve watched your videos for some time now and I’ve been wanting a Nikon D3400, but had the opportunity to buy a Nikon D3000 instead, so I was wondering if you had any pointers for a beginner. I want to learn as much as I can for the best possible picture quality I can get.
Congrats on the camera and welcome to the wonderful world of photography!:) I can appreciate the D3000 - an older camera but still capable:). I would take a look at the following video I created which is a good starting point: ruclips.net/video/6I3jtQfd-sU/видео.html
Me again,,, LOL... my nikon d3400 isn't a full frame camera,, and want an ulta wide lense for landscapes when i go on vacations..... is the nikon 10-20mm compatible with my d3400 directly, or do i have to buy an attachment,,, and is it a good lense for my needs??
yes, the nikon 10-20 ( amzn.to/2Nd5Mes ) will work with the D3400 ... a nice solid lens:).
Very good video on cleaning the sensor...thanks
I'm starting to worry about plastic waste so the sensor swab to me is a no no. Would be interested if you know any more eco friendly solution? Other than that, great video as always.
Ahhhhh yes, good/respected point!:) Hmmmm ... I wonder if there is a wooden handled swab? I just took a quick look but did not find any - seems like a good idea!:)
Sounds like an idea for Real World merch!
RealWorld excellent, those are the ones I got. keep up the great work, your videos are awesome! Nice work on instagram also 📸👍
Halo can you plz make a video about nikon d 3500
What is that cleaning fluid? Thx
I get nervous when I see you handling the camera by the lens. With the plastic mount is there any concern of damage to the mount?
lol - i typically hold by the largest/heaviest component. while the mounts are plastic, they are solid and i have never experienced any issues with warping/etc.
@@RealWorld ,,, thank you....
What exactly do i use the 70-300 lense for
Mainly for zoom shoots ... anything you might need to get up-close (a good lens to take on your trip in my opinion as you may want to capture something in the distances as well). I created a video on the 70-300 which might be of help - ruclips.net/video/1RaXjNuD6ls/видео.html
Hey ... what about canon T6i ? how to clean it by removing mirror in front of it ? Does Canon have such options ?
Yes, you should be able to do the same on the T6i:).
@@RealWorld how to throw mirror up for cleaning the sensor of 6i?
this should do the trick - support-vn.canon-asia.com/contents/VN/EN/8202663800.html
@@RealWorld thanks.. This was really helpful :)
Thanks for the video, Very helpful and nicely explained.
Thanks for the post/feedback and glad to be of help!:)
Thanks man. Going to try this tonight!!!
Sir, as you told me to buy this nikon d 3400.....i bought it.thank you sir
......sir please can you tell me
If the sun's light is full and there's enough light to take the image..then what should be the value of aperture., iso,and shutter speed , to blur ver niceely prefectly..plz tell....i know that that it depends upon the light.....but what should be their value for excellent blur
@@RealWorld sir thank you so much
.....you always rock with your videos.....best channel😍😍😍😍
excellent video as always.
I was just wondering if you can make a review of Yongnuo´s chinese lens wich are very cheap and in my opinion they are great for the price.
thank you.
Thanks for the post/feedback Nicolas:). I will need to see if I can get my hands on some of the Yongnuo lenses:).
What if the dust is in the viewfinder? I see there is a latch on the prism, should I open and have a look?
You can but dust in the viewfinder is relatively common. Since it does not impact the image and providing it is not incredible intrusive, I leave it:).
To really get a thorough view of the dirt in the sensor, it is best to close the aperture all the way down and shoot at a bright continuous surface with the focus completely off and preferably with a low exposure so you can move the camera a bit while shooting. That shot will only show what’s on the sensor. Also, I think you should always have a cleaning solution on your swab, never use it dry.
good point regarding the aperture - this will help to spot dust, etc., however be careful with the cleaning solution (not too wet):)
Mate please compare the D3400 and 3500
Thanks
On a Nikon D3400 what shutter speed do I need to set for 4 seconds? Is it 1/4?
Thanks for the post/question ... the shutter speed is 4 seconds:). If you are in shutter priority, keep rotating the dial and you will soon get to 4".
Cheers! For 3 weeks starting February 13 next year, I am in South Carolina! Including my 20th birthday on the 15th, I will be taking hundreds of pictures!
Glad to be of help!:) SC is a nice state - spent time in various parts of the state:). Enjoy the trip and travel safe!:)
Thanks! In 44 days, I am going back to Italy, will be excellent. Keep up the superb channel!
hi :),,can you do a review for bridge cameras?
Hey bro....how to remove fungus for Nikon AF Lens....Plz 1 Best and easy tutorial
Thank you for another great informative video!
Glad to be of help!:)
I want to buy the d3400, but is it worth to buy the newer d3500?
Not a huge difference between the two - they both share the same sensor and resolution. If you can get the D3400 on sale, go for it in my opinion. I will create a detailed review of the D3500 as soon as I can get my hands on one.
@@RealWorld I just bought a d3500 earlier this week. Feeling pretty dumb at this point for spending extra money but atleast it's not a terrible camera
The D3500 is a nice/great camera as well so don't feel bad:). Nikon will soon stop manufacturing the D3400 if they have not already done so.
@@RealWorld Nice! thanks for the info friend! :)

Hello sir. What if the dust is only be seen in viewfinder ? how can we clean it ?
try using canned air to spray down the viewfinder
Hi sir Good day. I am a newbie in photography and I am a d3400 shooter. I just want to ask if there is a teleconverter compatible for a af-p 70-300mm kit lens?
You might consider the Kenko 1..4 ( amzn.to/2OvlGlM ). This works well with various prime lenses but I have not tried it with a zoom (suspect it will work fine as well though).
Thank you sir. Im looking forward to your tutorials in d3400. 😊
Thanks a lot for detailed explanations. Cheers fm a new subscriber.
and if there anything on front of lens like fingerprints it will appearon the photo ?
i wish nikon d3400 had a mic input.
Agreed!:) Nikon had one on the D3300 but removed it on the D3400. I typically use the Zoom H1 ( ruclips.net/video/4StJ6QmYvpQ/видео.html ).
Hello sir, glad for sharing your knowledge, I'm Nikon D3400 user which I bought few days back and I am following your channel since a week. can i blow it with cool heat from blowdryer?
will not hurt to try although ensure you are in a relatively clean environment. hair dryers will suck air from the back of the unit and you want to ensure you are not sucking in dust, etc.:) in addition, use the cold air option if the blow dryer has one.
how do I stop the d3400 focus hunting
Haha i know i doesn't realy hurt However it feels like the camera is old , rusty and unsellable ( i have only 1200+ clicks on it )
Thanks a mill !
Thanks for the useful info
How to you know it’s the sensor that dirty and not the lens or mirror?
It helped. Thanks! :))
