I love the color of those cabinets. You can have so many colors around the kitchen to design so the kitchen will pop. Great choice that was made by the homeowners. You can learn so much by watching this show. Keeping cabinets level what person would care about doing a great job like that? Wow! hmhm There are some great carpenters out there that would do the same.
I'm a professional cabinet installer. I install them by myself. I start out putting lines on the walls using a laser level that puts a line around the room.i mark the highs and lows..i always install the uppers first then the bottoms.talking about the floors,I did a very expensive condo on the beach a few years ago.i think it was over 700k.the kitchen was huge and so.was the bathrooms.the floor in the kitchen was over 2 inches out in 12 feet. Anyway I finished the kitchen and the toekicks didn't cover the space.later on the super was upset with me because of the gap.he asked me with a nasty tone are you going to fix it? I asked him if was going to pump up more concrete? I didn't pour the floor.this one is funny.i started a big kitchen and the home owners showed up. The lady asked me how long it was going to take.i said about 3 to 4 days. She said I WATCHED THIS OLD HOUSE LAST WEEK AND IT THEM A HALF HOUR TO DO IT! Her husband and I just burst out laughing.
It takes me an hour to get up out of bed after I open my eyes nvm actually showing up to the job itself. I may make it there by quarter to 1 PM status..
How fun it'll be to seal that granite sink over and over and over. Not sure how I feel about a marble island. A main area for kitchen activity and you're giving it over to marble? Either way, fun install. Nice video.
Why does no one use large head cabinet screws anymore? I see so many cabinets hung with construction screws set into the particle board backs which looks bad just like at the 2:30 mark in this video. Pre drill the hole and use the proper screw.
Are all kitchens in the USA made like this, or this just a very old video? I sell kitchens here in the UK and all base units come with detachable, adjustable feet which can be used to level the units. The base units also come with service voids at the back of the units to allow for plumbing pipes, etc.
if you buy cabinets with feet, which is pretty rare, you can get adjustable feet. However, substantially uneven floors, like the one in this video, is also pretty rare, so most of the time you don't need them.
Does anyone have any tips for how to ensure you screw the cabinets into studs? Stud finder won't be very effective because the cabinet back wall will be in the way so it is very easy to miss a stud and insert a screw that then needs to be removed and rescrewed, which would leave a hole from the first attempt
The cabinets were still slightly off. Looks like 1/32 or 1/64th. You can very clearly see that @3:51. Tommy with his carpentry magic got em flush though. 😁

Cool video to watch. But most people can't afford custom stone sinks... this kind of work is for totally rich people. Then the maid will keep everything cleaned
some will use cabinet jacks off the lowers to hang the uppers.. in a situation like that I'd just get a nice strait rip of plywood and screw it on the wall to set the upper cabinets on, then do lowers.. to each their own..
That is one complicated way to even out a tilted floor. Every kitchen cabinet I know of has adjustable feet overhere in Germany. You just draw the counter top height with a laser level on the wall and adjust the cabinets accordingly. That being said, before even installing a kitchen I would take care of the floor problems first. 2 inch within such a small distance is not really acceptable.

A stone kitchen sink? I give it 2 years before that gets pulled out and replaced by stainless or at the very least porcelain. Preferably a nice thick stainless unit and will last 60+ years.
Are you suggesting putting the stove-top, the oven, the sink, and the fridge as far apart from each other as possible, with a big island to walk around, might not be the most practical layout for a kitchen?
Wait, you mean you don't want a sink where dropping a ceramic plate/dish from 1/2 an inch results in a broken dish? I honestly can't think of a single reason why a stone sink would be better than a nice thick stainless sink, but I guess that's why I'm not an interior designer getting people to throw thousands into something because it's trendy.
@kevin lol. You read my mind. That layout is good for when the catering company comes in with 3 or 5 people. Surprised no double oven tbh. Also looks like no built in microwave....

Almost every old house has out of level floors - t his doesn’t mean the floor joists are compromised. Unless the floor is in bad condition there is no need to mess with the floor other than sanding and refinishing.
