As a Raptor owner I can tell you exactly why. Ford left out over a dozen convenience and tech features standard on the Tacoma to keep the price where it’s at. In two years it will be more than a tacoma once they’ve added everything in. There are basically zero options on the Raptor. You can want or not want everything on the Toyota but it’s easy to see where the money is going.
@@morimo11 The raptor is still a full leather interior with basically every feature you can get on a ranger. Most of the tacomas extra features are just gimmicks. There's not a single person who's going to use the removable speaker. The ranger is still way better mechanically and makes way more power. I don't know where the 63k is going on the tacoma. It should be a 55k truck max
@@dawsongranger4940 I'm not familiar with the Raptor stereo options. But the removable speaker in the Tacoma is just part of the JBL upgrade, which is a pretty standard stereo upgrade in terms of costs. I would imagine Raptors also have a premium sound system?
The TRD Pro is a cool truck but I’m not spending $66k, plus dealer markups, for a mid-size truck with zero back seat room with those silly isodynamic seats.
I have a TRD Offroad I paid 44k for. I honestly can't see spending well over 20k more for a TRD Pro just for a few luxury features and performance that I don't need. It's an expensive toy and there is a market for those.
@@chadsalmon7379 Cool. That's what I thought because objectively, other than interior amenities, the TRD Pro is sub par to the RR in every category including the most important one, price.
I’m a ford guy at heart. But if this was the last gen Toyota I’d easily say that’s the better choice. But with all the problems Toyota has been having with the new Tacoma I’d easily take the ranger. Currently have a 2019 ranger fx4. I already have 82k on her. She drives great and I’ve never had any issues with her, have traveled all over the u.s with her and I put a lot of daily everyday miles on her, I’ve always done the maintenance on time. She’s been the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. And I know people have had some issues with the ranger but for the most part it’s not a bad truck at all.
I was considering the tacoma trailhunter, zr2/at4x twins and the ranger raptor. After months of homework and considering my wants and needs, the ranger raptor was what i ordered in shelter green. Plus at msrp, i was even more psyched. And in this class, the TTV6 is an absolute gem even before i get the tune installed, which is waiting for me. I couldnt be happier with the truck. Even though the midsize segment is so good right now and id be happy with any choice i went with, this ranger raptor has so much emotion. I look forward to the drive to work or wherever im going. Glad to have it in the driveway.
All that you have to do is watch the edmunds review dirt comparison the Ranger Raptor smoked the Tacoma TRD Pro, and the Colorado ZR2, but giving credit where credit is due the Tacoma TRD Pro did smoke the Colorado ZR2. At the end of the review the edmunds reviewer said that the new Tacoma TRD Pro is a (Jack of all trades and a Master of None). Also, The Topher said there is no physical button for lockers on the RR??? There is a big button on the center console right by the gear shifter it has a landscape picture on it of hills and a cactus. You press that button and instantly lockers pop up on the main screen, takes about a second to engage. My RR is 5 months old and I can honestly say it is the most Bitchin Truck that I have ever owned, and it is wicked quick and fast when you floor it in Sport Mode, love it. Lastly and I don't want to sound like a knob but there is a (Major Cool Factor) when you're driving around in a Ranger Raptor, hard to explain unless you own one. ✌
Yeah TRD Pro was priced way too high. If the choice is between the Ranger and the Pro, then the RR is 100% a better bang for your buck. But I think lower trim is where Tacoma shines this year. You can get everything you need with a TRD Off-road/Sport or even an SR5 without going into stupid money territory. Toyota definitely dropped the ball on this 4th Gen TRD Pro
As soon as he said "A little bit of regen whine on braking" i was out on the Tacoma. That is one of the biggest reasons why i quickly got rid of my '22 Tundra TRD Pro. That noise absolutely ruined the driving experience. My new Ranger Raptor should be delivered next week so I am psyched to get in it. Oh and you ask "How quick do you need your mid size truck to really be?" Umm...apparently you like it to be really quick since you added the tune to the RR:). The fact that you can hear the RR from several car lengths ahead of him why driving the Taco should be all you need to know. Overall a nice honest comparison. Great video.
I actually liked the front end/grill looks of the Colorado ZR2 the best out of all the new gas burning mid-size 4x4 trucks but now that I have had my Ranger Raptor for 5 months now and I've seen two other RR's on the road I'm actually digging the front end look on the RR. Honestly it has really grown on me, kind of a no BS Navy Seal type of look to it, and the C shaped light that wraps around the headlights that stays luminated during the day makes it really stand out. 👍

Two nice midsize pickup trucks with similar performance at low speeds. The Ranger has much more top end power and a good engine note while the Tacoma sounds buzzy and drones under acceleration.
I have a 24 Taco TRD Pro and it def has that positive camber on the front tires as well. It also has a shake that starts around 50mph but at 80mph turns into a loud and serious shake that sounds like youre in a washing machine. Havent got it back to the dealer yet but my best guess is its related to those tires. Thoughts?
The Ford Ranger Raptor is so nice all-around; the absolute benchmark of the midsize segment. I’d go with a Chevy Colorado ZR2 before the Tacoma for that matter.
I really wonder what kind of legacy this new gen of Toyota trucks is gonna leave. They’re pretty damn expensive for what they are imo. Less towing capacity and power on paper, and on top of that, its competitors are a BARGAIN in comparison. I’m a HUGE Toyota fanboy at heart, always have been. We’ll just have what time tells I guess
My RR is 5 months old zero issues or problems with anything so far, the biggest issue is I can't stop smiling every time I floor it in Baja Exhaust mode. Plus, I paid a little bit extra for a 6-year extended bumper to bumper warranty when I bought it, so I'm really not concerned about the cam phaser issue that is happening to a small amount of RR's.✌
No cam phaser noise on my RR. Had some valve train noise on startup for a little while running pennzoil ultra platinum, switched back to the motorcraft blend and it went away 🤷♂️
Just read this on ranger6g tonight, a guy took his Ranger Raptor to the Ford dealership he thought that he might have the cam phasers issue a little rattle noise at cold start up and then it goes away after several seconds. Dealership said that it was (turbo waste gates noise) and it is common and absolutely nothing to worry about the truck is perfectly fine. Dealership also said that many diagnose this wrong and think that it might be cam phasers when it is not it is just turbo waste gates noise because the noise sounds kind of similar. They also said that their dealership hasn't seen any 3.0 L EcoBoosts with cam phaser issues in years and that it is a thing of the past and especially not on a 2024 3.0 L EcoBoost. Also, on ranger6g on the same thread a different guy suspected that his RR might have the cam phasers issue. So, he took it to the Ford dealership, and they replaced his motor with a new one. Then when the guy gets his truck back from the dealership the next day after getting it back his truck is making the same exact noise. WOW maybe everyone has been getting this wrong and it is actually just (turbo waste gates noise), and the trucks are perfectly fine and there is absolutely nothing wrong with them.
Meh engine, unusable backseats, ridiculous price never has a toyota been this much of a non factor...sad really cuz it feels like this may not just be unique to the tacoma going forward
Toyota offers the Pro powertrain in lower models, which will actually be less expensive than the less equipped raptor. Get a TRD Off Road with hybrid powertrain for the win.
