Bach - Flute sonata in A major BWV 1032 - Root and Van Delft | Netherlands Bach Society

- Bach’s Flute Sonata in A major, performed by Marten Root and Menno van Delft for All of Bach, has a complicated past. Bach notated the work himself on a series of remaining empty staves at the bottom of pages of a piece of music he had written earlier. Later on, pages were lost from the manuscript, along with many bars from the first movement. So here, too, reconstruction was necessary. The sonata as a whole was probably also a ‘reconstruction’ of an earlier work. Notes made on the manuscript suggest that it was preceded by another version - probably a ‘real’ trio sonata for recorder, violin and basso continuo.
Recorded for the project All of Bach on May 22nd 2020 at the art museum Mauritshuis, The Hague. If you want to help us complete All of Bach, please subscribe to our channel bit.ly/2vhCeFB and consider donating bit.ly/2uZuMj5.

I somehow forgot the account password. I would love any tips you can offer me.

Sometimes it's hard for me to believe that there's such high quality content being produced and, specially, being avaliable to the whole world here on RUclips. Thank you very much, Netherlands Bach Society, for impacting lives in such divine way! All the generations shall be thankful to you forever!
Marten Root's interpretation and playing of the second movement is breathtaking.

THANK YOU GUYS so much for changing the intro
A perfect and difficult harmony between these two instruments. The result is a duet masterpiece. Bach is really one of great compositors for every time. The interpretation is excellent.Bravissimo!!
Absolutely wonderfully played

Beautiful to listen to such high quality performances, and on authentic instruments with wonderful acoustics and aesthetics! Thank you!
Einfach wundervoll!
Such a gorgeous video, wow!
Simply Amazing.

Super ton!Fain
brilliant and scholarly.
Thank you so much for replacing the intrusive intro with something more restrained. Much better. :)
Loved Thank's
I wonder if Emanuel Bach and Friedrich the Great ever played this lovely piece together.
Three they cha but anyway s technology stuff you knowged so fast all the time
Most likely not Friedrich, but Quantz.
@@KingD775 Quantz was Fredericks flute teacher. Quantz own compositions were not the only thing quantz teached and friederich played. even in his book of flute tutoring pieces he extensively used melodies, patterns and loops from other composers. It is more likely that friederich, being a king and thus money not being an issue and being an obsessive book collector, had an extensive sheet music collection of flute music. It is very plausible that friedrich was farmiliar with these sonatas.
@@Herr_Flick_of_ze_Gestapo Yes- and this sonata is rather hard. Friedrich was a decent amateur (who famously avoided hard works), but Quantz was a virtuoso and the master. Hence, if this piece was ever performed at the Dresden court it was likely performed by Quantz.
So beautiful.
And.. I want lute music please :)
wonderfull!
Thank you Thank you Thank you 💗
great!
Super. Danke

Круто! Мне понравилось.
Thanks for the elegant performance and the info. section. Will it be also an interview with the performers?
Some time ago we decided not to make a separate interview for each recording anymore. Instead, we started producing short background documentaries, for example about the baroque violin, the countertenor and basso continuo. With these 'new style' videos we aim to share our knowledge about certain topics/themes in a more accessible way. We notice that these videos are getting higher ratings.
Where's the old intro theme?! I love it
This has ruined me for hearing these sonatas on a modern flute. And for listening to myself play them on such a contraption. His sound is so supple, so easy and natural ( writing this knowing how difficult to achieve that effect.)
Beautiful!!
First comment😀
I know a Sonata when I hear one!!
SEÑOR ACOSTAAAAAAAA
Vivaci wasn’t supposed to end at 3:11 because it’s an incomplete piece?
They say that it is a reconstruction in the description.
"Hmm, wat is er in deze kamer om te filmen? O ja, mus!"
Traverso is the most hard baroque wind instrument for playing in tune. I am studying this amazing instrument and it is being such a torture. All of it it is because I am not a former Boehm flutist but an alto recorder player. Recorder is such an instrument that doesn't require embouchure issues because the wind channel drives the air flow inside recorder's pipe. It is being a thing.
Ah, Den Haag, Mauritshuis :)
Fui el escucha 1032 de esta sonata 1032 ¡¡¡
Does anyone know if these recordings or this channel is on Spotify?
I would like to learn how to play my alto recorder please
Flutespotting! My guess is 3-part Naust copy at A=400Hz made by Aurin.
Amazing music from a leg of furniture!
New intro
Is that a new intro music?
This is indeed our new intro sound, we wanted to achieve a more neutral sound. I hope you like it!
@@bach I like that the new intro doesn't allude to a key that may not be the same as the music in the video!
@Netherlands Bach Society It’s much nicer! Not so intrusive as the loud timpani bang. Sounds great!
Quien interprta ?
new Intro Music?

In my personal opinion, Bach is good.
You spelled God wrong
This was probably composed by C.P.E.
Bach, not by his Old man. Great Sonata.
The style of J.S. Bach in this sonata is evident to anyone who knows his music.
Is this A=430
No, it's most likely A=400.
It's a pity I can hit the like button just once.
Such a dialogue!
When vibrato is an ornament and not a disguise for poor tone control.
definitely a great interpretation of the work, elegant and a master in the traverso technique
More cowbell!
I think that cymbal it's one Mietcke, really?

Maravillosos pero no han logrado ajustar los tempi. Igualmente, estupendos
Jajajaja. Tu comentario supera la ignorancia
