Never seen a race quad in person but I'm a sucker for bad assery(word?) Which this thing is bad ass. I have to build one now. Those props sound so mean. Great flying. I might use your build as a guideline. Thanks for sharing

      Well I've been pricing out parts and wow is this hobby cheap compared to helis. I can buy 4 motors I need for around 100. Funny I just told the wife no more this year after the 700. Now just wait till she sees me putting something new together. Lol. I figure the big money is in fpv. My budget is fairly open. What's a good decent fpv unit with range and little interference in your opinion.

    My Merica flies pretty fast on 5151 HQ Prop 3 blade. 150ish? on 2207 1700kv Those are now my go to prop when I need a 51xx prop. They're decently durable and hard to flatten out in hard turns. Nice flying. Nice spot too. The Merica is a beast. It's pure power/weight. My only complaint is I'm more likely to break the base plate than the arm because it's so thin but .. gotta save those grams of weight.

  • @barthchris1
    @barthchris1 6 лет назад

    That was awesome! I'd be worried about EMF from the power lines but I guess it's not an issue. APC props rule. Just had a 6x3.5 HQ carbon/nylon biblade snap on me midair during a LOS full throttle speed run. Predictable results ensued.

    here's an idea; put the quad on a tripod at the angle you flew for the time trial. get a leaf blower measure max wind with anemometer hopefully 160 mph, then take some simulated smoke and place it with blower in front of the quad. watch the smoke. smooth areas = good, rough areas = bad=drag. now you will know where to improve aerodynamics

    How are you running 6s with 2500kv motors???

    • @weakmindedidiot
      @weakmindedidiot 5 лет назад

      You can throttle curve high KV motors to work on 6s. I'm not sure that's what he's doing here or not. If you want them to perform at 1/2 the KV then you chop the top 1/2 the throttle off. I'm still skeptical that it's a "good" way of doing things though.

    • @gabbychavesracing24
      @gabbychavesracing24  4 года назад +1

      EbonySeraphim it’s not a software adjustment, (though probably it can be done, not sure) it’s just the “flight mode” when you are full manual flight mode, you don’t need to make many inputs if any at all once to are in forward flight. There is some input however the rates are quite sensitive so it may not be too apparent

    Welcome to 150+ mph club bud. It's not easy. lol. Battled through A LOT of desyncs to get there myself.
    Please invest in a dynamite gps speed tracker. Many of us are skeptical of the variables in doing the distance/time calculations. The device adds a little weight and will be a pain to mount to your frame but it is the most cost effective and safest way we've found to accurately measure top speed.

    Seriously, great job Gabby. I was amazed an ordinary racing quad, with a motor change and some fast props could go THIS fast. It's interesting how close this is to whatever is the latest contender for the world's fastest quad. For a given prop diameter, I wonder what would determine a theoretical maximum speed? 1.) If you assumed you could get an unlimited amount of rpm's to each of the 4 propellers of a 5" (or then of different diameters), is there a theoretical limit? I calculated 50,400 rpm for a supersonic tip speed (figuring around 1,100 fps at sea level) for a 5 " propeller. It goes down to 42,000 rpm for a 6" propeller size. Is a supersonic prop tip speed a magical number for a reduction in prop thrust production? I can't believe I don' know off the top of my head. I know single rotor helicopters get into retreating blade stall that limits their top speeds. It doesn't seem like such things would come into play with a quad. 2.) If #1 doesn't give a theoretical limit to the top speed because of prop RPM then things would get way more complicated.
    Someone must have such things roughly calculated. Got any idea?

      gedgar2000 I’m sure there is a way to just calculate rpm and prop size/pitch and a get a theoretical speed, problem is then you throw all these real life variables with drag and turbulence and a bunch of things that make it nearly impossible to predict haha

    Ok I just got 2 ???. 1) What are the amps? (Amps times volts equals watts.) 2) how many G's is that thing pulling? I mean I could break the video down, but all I think of is that I'd pass out from that. The guy that hops up on the Gyro-tron & stands up!

      John VanAsselberg II I would say close to 200 amps for the 2 second burst, and not sure about the Gs hahaha maybe double what a dragster car does

    Frightening shit man, that's sooo fast. Amazing you didn't hit that electrical pole on those runs. In real life pretty big gaps. But at those speeds it becomes more like tge opening of a snipergate.

    So again.. how did you come up with your speed? Did you take the 150m and equate the milliseconds from the ring marker to the transmission pole?

    That's pretty dang fast. I like it. Have you tried the three blade props?? They will take your quad from fast to flat out craziness. They put out LOTS of thrust.

    • @gabbychavesracing24
      @gabbychavesracing24  5 лет назад +1

      Shawn Dubay yea the 3 blade props will give you more thrust but less speed since they create more drag and less rpm, so for top speed, 2 blade, and for acceleration/ handling 3 blade!

    Hi Cannonball. Nice work!
    How does the quad feel with the DYS Thor 2500KV 6S? Would you fly it on a racetrack? And how was the amp draw?

    • @gabbychavesracing24

      Moritz Beyer I don’t think I would fly it on a race track. Amp draw is too high. Peaking around 200 amps, not really sustainable for racing

    amazing video. trying to build something similar but the electronics and motirs you're using are discontinued. would 2306 2400-2500kv and a decent 50A esc would do the job/similar speed without blowing up ?

    I am skeptical, I have driven a car at 150 plus, it looks much faster than the video. My guess it looks about 80 to 100 mph. How did you get the reading? I'm not saying your lying, just that it doesn't look 165.

    • @gabbychavesracing24
      @gabbychavesracing24  6 лет назад

      Richie Rich and I drive Indycar at 240 mph, speed is perceived differently from different perspectives. The method used is measuring a distance, laying out a beacon at point A then point B, and using a transponder to measure the time it took to cover that distance which gives you a very accurate speed. Much more accurate than gps or radar

      mx118racer yes mode 2. It’s a little deceiving because the quad is mostly already in forward flight so it takes very little pitch input but it’s certainly there

    how much does it cost to build one of those, I been considering it latley

    • @e4Bc4Qf3Qf7
      @e4Bc4Qf3Qf7 5 лет назад +2

      A normal racing quad is around 100-150$, assuming you build it yourself. The goggles can range from 100-500$, batteries are 25$ each, and you need a lipo charger which are 50-60$, and a transmitter which is around 100$. A 6s build like this will cost way more for the quad, and you will need to have some pretty damn good soldering skills to solder it. Look up some videos and guides on building quads.(btw quad=quadcopter)

      I’m building my first ever and with everything including goggles I’m around $250-$300. I bought a fairly inexpensive build that will go only around 60-70mph. The transmitter and goggles are the two main big purchases and after that it’s fairly reduced pricing since you have those two components already.
