Nice, this is a good educational piece, especially for those of us wanting to build on the cheap. Finding that line between good and cheap is difficult at best, and you've illustrated that brilliantly. Well done!
You are in the sky where you live... altitudes make for a tough build on a mini due to the thin air. You want to go with 4S power (35-70C rating- maybe more) and 12amp esc's and a touch lower on kv- say the Cobra 1960 or even the Lumenier 2206-2300kv's and 6in props. I hear the KISS 18amps work well- that extra voltage will help on high C rating punches. You are an r/c fpv natural brother... everything you fly you make it look good. (excellent camera skills push you over the top- pun intended)
Someone called them "crappy chinese stuffs" but everytime i saw people fly them, they fly so good and they are very happy with them... Thanks for the ride! Very nice video as usual! Happy weekend
I would imagine that with the thinner air where you are, you could easily run some 5x4.5in props without hurting the motors. And what did you do to fix the stock Möbius vibrations?
rctestflight You might could use the 6x3 props on those 1804 motors but I would not go anymore aggressive. I'd suggest moving up to the 1806 2300kva motors as they have much more thrust and can run the 6" props pretty easily plus they have better bearings and hold up well in crashes. another thing you can try is the 5x4 props, they give more thrust compared to the 5x3 props.
I noticed you never showed a receiver hooked up to the board. Just curious how that setup worked for this! The receiver input pins are different on this compared to the regular Naze32.
I have the ZMR250 too, had many crashes but still going strong. BTW i didn't get it from Banggood, so not sure how the quality is compared with other sellers.
It seems there are various types, is yours the CF version? you should be able to see a continuity in the layers of the CF, if the colour changes toward the centre of the layers slightly then they are the composite type ;)
I have the actual CF version and have been bouncing it off trees and concrete all summer and it is still going strong. To dampen the mobius mount i simply use a battery strap around the top frame plate and the mobius and mount. If your props are balanced there is no jello.
I have the same setup but my default dampers don't get me those vibrations. I guess if you tighten the camera under the top plate instead of the camera plate then you will force down the dampers and they will reduce the vibrations a lot more, imho. I have post some videos with my setup, anyway.
hello! i've never build my own quadcopter before but have a ok understanding of how they work, i have a hubson X4 and i took it apart and worked on it but that's as far as iv got. if you could make a video or instructions on how to build one just like in the video but step by step. i have all the parts but im not 100% sure how they go together and dont want to brake/mess them all up. Thanks!
Brian Evans hmm.... well ok, I guess. I suppose it depends who you listen to, and how pedantic you are: "What isn't Naze32: Flip32, Nanj32 and similar stuff that's been based on the published rev4 schematic is not Naze32. You can generally tell by the soldering, pcb and silk quality" code.google.com/p/afrodevices/wiki/AfroFlight32 Funny that naze32 is in the URL for that item, but they seem to have removed all other traces of 'naze32' from their site :) I bet it works just fine though.
I'm getting an adrenalin rush just watching the flight video. Those picnic table awnings are big, but still really heart pumping to fly through, especially because you know you have to spend hour fixing and re-aligning shit if you crash... make that *when you crash :) Good stuff.. thanks for sharing the video.. keep it up m8! :)
Would using a higher mAh rated lipo battery with the same number of cells and C rating reduce the issues you were having with it getting too hot? Say 2200mAh.
I have a few fully carbon fiber ZMR frames. They weigh a lot less than the glassy fiber frames. I think 1806 is the minimum size motor that flies well on this frame, and the 2204 motors do really well. My favorite props are HQ 5x4.5. If you fly 6x4.5 props, they produce a ton of thrust, but are very floaty unless you use escs with active braking. I also have a blackout which I love, but which also cost me five times the price for the frame.
I wonder if that additional noise that starts at the 3:02 mark is all the wifi signal from the houses interfering with the audio signal. Great little build! Whats the average flight time?
Awesome video man! Great footage and thanks for the info. Long time rc pilot from props to jets and helis. Getting into quads and have no idea where to start. Thanks for fixing that.
HI. I had the same problem, the solution was to plug the USB lead into my USB hub and it works???. >can not get the cc3d board to hook up. It gives me the warning that it is waiting for the board to be connected, and I must manually update board with the plug in. Can not fly--any .ideas?
Nice job on the quad! I have a question-- I can not get the cc3d board to hook up. It gives me the warning that it is waiting for the board to be connected, and I must manually update board with the plug in. Can not fly--any ideas?
Looking at your damaged arm you do have the true full CF version. Banggood has mixed up their stock alot with the 'glassy fibre' version. Great cheap mini quad, recommended.
Tiger Motor have recently had a huge price reduction on their line of miniquad motors (to the annoyance of their dealers holding old stock) making them a realistic choice. The Cobra 2208 on 4s are also a hot setup for insane power and speed you just need to choose the ESC's wisely.
I have a HJ450 quad, but I am interested in trying the 250 size.. I like the idea of getting everything from Banggood.. would you do the same build again?
I would say he probably used his camera mount to fix vibration, Just curious what are you run times with this thing im very interested in building on of these. I like the whole mine quad setup
Hi Daniel! I have the same frame with DYS BE1806 motors, they provide plenty of power, even with 5x3 props. Running them with Emax 12A simonK escs. This setup is only 2 dollars more on banggood than the power system you use, so I think it's worth checking out. Your flying skills are great, cool stuff. Keep it up.
I see the turnigy radio is quite cheep from Hobbyking . you could go for a second hand 7 channel on ebay ( you need a 6 channel minimum . I use a Spektrum dx7s . I think Hobbyking also sells the mobius at a pretty good price . remember there are 2 versions of mobius .A and B , B version has a wider viewing angle . I found the zmr frame on ( look for qav250 ) ebay for £10 delivered and the motors , 12 amp esc's and cc3d flight controller for £55 . do a good search and you can get the parts separately cheaper ( with the included shipping too ) . It will take about a week and a half to be delivered . you need some lipos and a charger too. Hope this helps you out a little , happy landings
thank you. I amt desparate to get into the racing quad scene. however Im not good setting up flight controllers and transmitter settings. been flying for years and always needed help. now my clubs closed the only help is the internet :(
go and have a look at the CC3d open source software . download it for free . You will be amazed at how easy the step by step set up is . also there is a chap who has a great youtube channel called thatHPIguy . a Brit . showing just how easy the set up is .. I use the factory settings of there cc3d F.C and it flies nicely enough .. don't let it baffle you . you can pm me if you feel out of your depth but any flier on youtube will help. go .. have fun , BL
I´d recommend a FS-T6 transmitter. Cheap, 6 channels, easy setup, bundled with receiver, nice build quality and design (personal preference). I´m very satisfied with mine and never had any problems.
How much is the total weight of the 250 mini quad (including mobius camera)? I'm asking because in some countries there are restrictions that only apply after a certain amount e.g. in Switzerland, less than 500g it's not considered a drone and you can fly it everywhere. Thanks for sharing this info ;)
rctestflight, I'm wondering if you are my neighbor: That little soccer park looks like one that I have flown in a few times right off from route 224 in Park City, UT.
Hi, I want to build a quad that can fly with 2200 Ma 11.1 v (my t rex 450 lipo), I can use the same setup that you have and change the motors and the ESC. What motors do you recomend?
You said in this video that your quad seemed underpowered, how would you address that? I'm looking to build one and I'm trying to address any issues before I pick out all the parts

Hello im from México i want one cuadricopter like yours! How can get it! I have a cauadricopter but I think is not good than yours! stay for your answer thank you!
Using the ZMR250 frame as well, together with 12A AfroESCs from HK and comparably cheap motors. It's my main mini quad as that's the only thing I can afford. Flies pretty good, footage is good with some foam instead of these terrible balls, but really underpowered for carrying FPV gear with an MWOSD setup. Where do you live? I don't want to ha a stalker but a lot alof people are saying that the quad doesn't fly well from the thin air. I live at a high elevation as well and maybe instead of getting the normal battery I may use a 30-35c one.
I will rather recommend this one www.readymaderc.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=76_600&products_id=3644 Looks good and from well known retailer
If you interested in building on on the cheap I have a nice article over here with links of where to buy everything. You can build a fully FPV ready miniquad for less than $300. www.modifiedrc.com/miniquads-how-can-i-get-flying-on-the-cheap/
***** thats kinda expensive, for about $115, I shopping cart built a tri or quad and a custom frame, that left me with 2-3 spare frames, spare props, already had transmitter, just everything else, non fpv, and not mini.
MartinezUAV - HighflyingRC That's a good thing though. You know when they are broken, where plastic props can be bent and you don't even notice until they break mid flight.
This is true with cheaper blades, have not had that problem with HQ props. I can get away without breaking blades with the hq5040's a lot, first crash with the 5045's and they all exploded on impact :D
Adam Wilkinson Ahhh yeah I tried the gemfans on the weekend(latest vid). They're cheap so wasn't surprised to find lots of stress marks and broke about 5 or 6 i think, also they need balancing unlike the HQ props which i find impossible to balance as they are so good :D
Great video! If you were to build this quad today, what motors would you buy now? Would it still be the Micro Muscles? I just ordered this frame and would like to get a motor that's good enough to use on the next higher quality frame I eventually upgrade to. I'd greatly appreciate your input on this. Thanks in advance.
Nice Vid , i am having allot of fun with my ZMR , the problem i have is that i need to point the #16 cam UP to see where i am flying and its hard to make a mount that eliminate the vibrations .. You have any idea's ? Did you balance your props , your zmr is so silent
In 2014 this kind of flying was considered impressive..
We have come far :)
Nice, this is a good educational piece, especially for those of us wanting to build on the cheap. Finding that line between good and cheap is difficult at best, and you've illustrated that brilliantly. Well done!

The "PowerSysyem" package you have quoted only has 2x motors. Do you just add another 2 motors? Or do you buy 2x "Popwer Packs"
Someone called them "crappy chinese stuffs" but everytime i saw people fly them, they fly so good and they are very happy with them...
Thanks for the ride!
Very nice video as usual! Happy weekend
i see you're standing outside of your car. Can you sit in the warm car with the doors closed and still be able to have a good signal to fly?
I would imagine that with the thinner air where you are, you could easily run some 5x4.5in props without hurting the motors. And what did you do to fix the stock Möbius vibrations?
I tossed the anti vibration balls and replaced them with 2 zip ties. Works well
Awesome, thanks
Yeah I bet I could use 6" props with no problem. I just used a layer of velcro for isolating the Mobius. It works well for isolating vibrations
Really? Never would've thought so
rctestflight You might could use the 6x3 props on those 1804 motors but I would not go anymore aggressive. naze32 from banggood?? I don't see that anywhere on their site.

I was wondering the same thing ......and than I noticed he wrote ....."stock vibration isolator balls" ......soo I am guessing softer balls
It looks like he replaced the stock dampeners

haha, balls.
Would using a higher mAh rated lipo battery with the same number of cells and C rating reduce the issues you were having with it getting too hot?
Say 2200mAh.
Nice flight footage! Digging that Quad you built. I'm putting together a 200qx coupled with a Rakon Frame. Then after throw in a Morbius/ FPV system.

any alternate batteries that will work just as good?
Can you help me out please. I don't know how to plug in wires from cc3d to my fly sky receiver
I already spent almost $200 building my own quad.. What would be a cheaper option for a remote that works with the radio link receiver?
Do you have to buy four of the power systems to get 4 motors?
What would you recomend for a beginner
Great set up. Do you have the crash video?
Building my first 250mm quad, should i go with kk2,naza32,cc3d. And why. Thanks!
Lots of interesting comments, keep em coming. Gonna build my 1st one soon.
Nice one. I fly one of these on 4s using multistar 2206 motors and 5x4 props. It's a beast.
Dude... at this point I have TOTALLY subscribed! ...ALL CAPS NERD RAGE!!!!!

Hello this quadro dont have gps rigt?
hay nice quad would that be a good first one
Naze32 and Frame can't be found on Banggood .
I have a spectrum dx5, what receiver would you recommend for a mini we'd like this. ?
Hi Daniel!

Does the anbee remote work with the radio link transmitter?
Cool to see how technology and prices have changed in just two years
87gbp for the parts listed. doesnt cover the cost of mobius, receiver and TX. anyone recommend a cheap setup for that?

I also have the mobius on top.
how do you connect your fpv setup to your quad?? Im a newbie and am about to build one
rctestflight, I'm wondering if you are my neighbor: That little soccer park looks like one that I have flown in a few times right off from route 224 in Park City, UT.
Why don't you just use the Mobius for FPV? Wouldn't it save weight?
Which vibration isolators did you use?? You switched out the stock ones right?
Probably used some zipties. Google ziptie vibration isolators.
I just used a layer of velcro. It works well for isolating vibrations
Okay cool, thanks
You can use the stock ones if you simply use a battery strap around the top frame plate and mobius and stock mount.
Martinez UAV
What kind of control should I buy
What transmitter should I use for this build
if those were the stock props then they still did well when you let loose or perhaps your just a really good pilot
How much did this cost 2 build ?? I am a beginner in fpv and want a low cost fpv quad
Pls, what kind of anti vibrator you used to replace the original?
Tks
You can use the stock one, simply use a battery strap around the top frame plate and mobius and stock mount. Also make sure your props are balanced.
MartinezUAV - HighflyingRC Thanks!!!
Hi, I want to build a quad that can fly with 2200 Ma 11.1 v (my t rex 450 lipo), I can use the same setup that you have and change the motors and the ESC. What motors do you recomend?
How did you get rid of the vibration from the bobbins?
A layer of velcro
You said in this video that your quad seemed underpowered, how would you address that? I'm looking to build one and I'm trying to address any issues before I pick out all the parts
how much flight time you got on this setup? Thanks
HI Daniel any chance the blackout is coming soon? and can you do a naze 32 setup
Is this a good drone to get into drone flying? ~100 bucks isn't much but how much harder is it to fly than lets say a LaTrax Alias?
It's not hard at all to fly if you have self leveling mode on. In this video he uses rate mode, (AKA acro mode) to do flips and roles. It is a little tricky to build but rcmodelreviews has a great tutorial.
Dude! You should try forming your own carbon fiber. A vacuum and heat, idk the details but I bet yours would be bad ass
Around how much did it cost to make this quad?
Hello im from México i want one cuadricopter like yours! How can get it! I have a cauadricopter but I think is not good than yours! stay for your answer thank you!
sorry but how much can be build your own 250 mini quad project?
what should i set my voltage alarm, on my battery, too?
3.7 is the best for your battery in the long term, but 3.3 is the minimum
Rik Houtman cool i appreciate it bro, thanks!!
how much was to completely build this drone?
Did you have programmed the flightcontroller or just used it out of the box?
What transmitter should I buy for this @rctestflight
hello, where I can buy and RTF with transmitter?
what would be a barebone cost of this quad?
Using the ZMR250 frame as well, together with 12A AfroESCs from HK and comparably cheap motors.
It's my main mini quad as that's the only thing I can afford. Flies pretty good, footage is good with some foam instead of these terrible balls, but really underpowered for carrying FPV gear with an MWOSD setup.

Dang!!! You really inspire!!! Thanks for all those great videos!!! Getting mine pretty soon!!!
hey does it matter which way the motors spin
Yes. :)
Yes. :)
wait is this deer valley??? I saw the slope Rose, and I thought you were taking it up either Lucky Bill or White Owl. Is it just me or am I right?
screws used to mount chip?
How much did it cost to build
How much cost done quad without fpv?But with camera
Wish I knew how to configure my HK AIO FC in my 250 quad to fly this well :/
I have 4 ZMR250's and I love them!
will 2300kv motors work better
how much does that quad cost with everything..? looks cool
