I'm Mexican American, born and raised in America. However every summer I would go visit my. Grandmother and other family in Mexico, the food, air ,and comradery was so astonishing to me. I noticed that despite high poverty and corruption in Mexico , every one there was always smiling and joking around. Everyone was like a big family, neighborhoods knew each other and had small talk. I remember coming back to America, I would lose substantial weight and would feel miserable all over again in this gray America. It's not all about money. Thanks for listening

Nothing is free, someone has to pay! Infact when something is free, you don't have any choice.
@@riscnx Not true. In Finland, income tax is progressive, the average Joe pays around 30% income tax. I currently work part-time and pay income tax of about 13%.

As an Indian, i do accept our rank would be low on happiness index but 126th is not at all expected.
40 years back i remember my parents, my grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and I were all much happier. My dad used to come home by 6 pm and never had to work afterthat. My mom was always at home and kept the family strongly bonded, we had ony Doordarshan which used to start at 5:30 pm, we had many friends in our society, there was no feminism, today we have much more materially but everyone is much more axiety, too much work pressure, too much competition, feminism, social media and other problems.
All are very small countries. Discard all countries below 15 million population. All countries below 15 million are just like cities.
But Maldives is small population and small country

India is not a Happy country, it is an country which is showing growth at the cost of its people and creating Oligarchs which people right now are not able to understand too. I am happy to be unhappy. It lowers the line of depression, the level of 'lack of happiness' below which you will feel depressed. If you are excessively happy all the time, then you are very susceptible to depression. The moment you become slightly less happy, you can not tolerate it. Because happiness is like a drug. You get addicted to the chemicals released during the state of happiness. You are bound to be less happy at some point, because such a hyper state can not be sustained forever. So don't be obsessed with being happy all the time. Expose yourself to a bit of hardship. That is how you build psychological tolerance. Excess is always bad. Be happy in a balanced way.

I do not want to work 70 hours per week for pathetic monthly salary of 25 thousand rupees given by Narayan Murthy who sucks up all the commission from my blood, sweat, tears and gives 250 crores to his just born grandson. Even from that 25 thousand rupees, Sudha Murthy snatches 800 rupees for her charity without my consent to get Padma Vibhushan. And on top of that we have to pay bribes for every government official signature. I spoke to end client in USA and they are paying 100 dollars per hour for my work. Murthy is paying me 3 dollars. The work culture in IT needs to be improved as soon as possible in India. Even though there is no war going on with other contries but people are going through excess mental stress due to the toxic work environments.

But, in terms of social and work life balance is zero and if you are in village side there is no equal opportunity for people. People of india in some states they hate each other because of religion and caste. This is what the report says….

I am now aged 60 years. Till today, not even one survey fellow has approached me with questions. How these people conclude the survey? What is the sample taken? What is the techniques used to make the index? I must say all these are ##&& sh**#s. I can also make some index based on my experience and knowledge and with proper data collected from Internet and make a survey and publish from India. Happiness is a subjective thing. It can't be measured by any parameter. Some one who looks happy from outside can be miserable from inside. Hence, this index is irrelevant.

Everyone especially older generation wanted to marry and have children. Some became child factories churning out 5,6,8 children per family and extended families together have 15 -20 children in some states but nobody cared or thought about implications for these future generation , how they would live and survive with limited resources and ever changing policies to suit the rich and powerful already ruling over for years. Business families are the new type of monarchy also having large influence on a country and its affairs affecting average citizens. Older generation just wanted to brag to every family and community member and random strangers about their children but never thought how their children will achieve and sustain any success. Obviously, it will be a problem and younger generation are miserable and unhappy while their fathers and grandfathers have not had to deal with sending 1000 job applications every month for rejection ritual and then selling tea on the street. In India, tea sellers are now the new celebrities and upcoming millionaires lol. Instead of investing millions on degree , buying a teapot and paper cups will make you rich 😆

Sounds like you've been a foreign Santa tourist in Lapland and you're not happy with your experience :D The UN happiness report was about something else. I got bored as a tourist in Ireland, but it seems that the locals are doing pretty well.
I will be very honest here. It's not social media that did anything, it's our developmental curriculum.
In case if Urban GenZ, we were raised as if we are some good gift for mankind... we were raised to think of everyone as potential threat... and top of that we have too much knowledge to have prejudices for anyone we meet.
End result is, it's hard for us to be friends with anyone.
Social media was invented to bring back lost friends of GenX... but for GenZ it has become tool to just look at others... not connect it anyone, just to look at other, as natural urge to socialise which have been throughly paralysed during our developmental stage!

I am skeptical about these so-called happiness rankings. Finland has been at the top for seven years and take them with a pinch of salt. Israel getting 5th rank is a joke. Much as I admire the brave people of that country, I would not like to be in their shoes for a moment.
Of course there are many ways to measure life satisfaction, the UN Happiness Report is based on statistics and personal interviews. It's not about who smiles the most but more like who is the least unhappy, that's where Finland and other Nordic countries are strong. Low relative poverty, safety nets, mutual trust in each other and in institutions.
I can assure you its not caste.

I am late for the comment here. This index was so biased against India yet palki found nothing wrong with it. So west accuses India of caste system, religious discrimination, unjust development schemes and palki just went on quoting it without any feeling of being wronged by the biasedness. Too much objectivity is also not right. Show some passion and patriotism and stand for your country. Palki could have called out the biasedness of the report but something else was more important for her, something more important than the country. Maybe her way is of neutrality, but I couldn’t take this western report about India.
