motivation, confidence, perseverance: the three things that are for me the most important. If you fail, you must redo it, you have to be confident in yourself, be enough motivated to continue and persevere the longer the better.
It’s not that hard if you have the right mindset for your work. Patience and consistency will come out on its own if you value the process more than what will be the result of your work. Just saying from my experience.
I gave up on hyper realism years ago until I heard you say "Ja" in a video of yours. You gave hope to alotta people in Namibia where art is under heavy prejudice questioning its relevance and for that we're grateful. PS ek is nog steeds geskok van hoe goed jy is...
You should start a vlog channel or integrate vlogging into this one. Believe me we artists are much relieved to see somone pushing it through their life everyday. Just a suggestion. Btw big fan of ur art
Your personality level is just as high as your drawing level! You're a gem in our society. It's people like you that make the world a better place! Wishing you the VERY best in life!
your work is breathtakingly beautiful, I'm mad that I only discovered you now, you went straight to my top 3 best artists of the world, since I watched few of your videos, wow!! I hope you have many successful art exhibitions in the future, world needs to see these masterpieces
Jono, no soggy sentimentality here, just pure admiration. Of course, your work is astounding, but your calming presence has so much impact, that can’t be ignored. So glad to have just found your channel...thank you for sharing your talent with us. Kudos man...kudos. I’ll be following your vids very closely
Holy SHIT that is amazing! You’re so calm when you speak I could listen to you all day 😂 you’re so talented and I’m SO pleased you get to do what you love as a job. You deserve all the publicity and more. Looking forwards to the next one! :)
Please keep us in your busy schedule as your thoughts and technique to drawing are so inspiring. Thank you for your kindness in helping others to improve on our skills and looking at our drawings in a new light.
Still learning at 70 and love your honesty and straightforwardness about what you have learned! Keep it up and wishing you the best of luck. Love you studio so j........................
Yes, please do a video on social media marketing for artist, how you navigate the business side, and/or a video on your journey on becoming a professional artist
I like your videos even before watching them...you really inspire me though am not an artist, your videos are like stress buster for me. Love from India and thank you very much.
Turning the drawing upside down was a brilliant tip. I can now more easily see where tiny flaws are when I’m doing more detailed work! Particularly portraits! Thanks!
you might check out a book titled Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain for more tips like this. Also, looking at your work in a mirror can be helpful.
Such a handsome and talented artist... Never was drawn to graphite drawings till I saw your works. Great details, observation skills and brilliant use of light and shade.
I've always loved the feeling of holding a pencil in my hand. It feels like I am holding a magic wand and worlds are waiting to be created through me. Thank you for sharing x
YES!!! I would love to hear about the business side of art and I'm so glad to hear your channel is growing too. Your videos are like an extension of the art and your work. Each video is artistically recorded and edited. Thought has gone into lighting and angles of the camera and it's done in a way that perfectly showcases you and your craft without it looking like your performing and I love it! Congratulations on a successful 2019 and wishing you an even better 2020! He says water humbles him every time...ROFLMAO! I hear you! I HEAR YOU!
hey jono, I really like your videos! I am starting to draw, and even if I'm just a beginner you give me ideas on what to focus. The thing is, man, YOU are the one we want to see! your personality is so calm and you make every video so interesting, that even if you uploaded like vlogs or videos of any kind I know you'll make them very entertaining. I hope this year you find the breakthroughs you need in drawing and surprise every one of us as alwaysssss
Your works are amazing, I never get tired of watching your videos, I like to draw, I would say am an upcoming artist but am finding it difficult to know my path in art,
You are absolutely amazing and I really do appreciate the how to’s you were posting they really got me motivated and away haven’t been prior to doing my drawings that I’ve been putting off for a while. Thank you
Because it was so hard for him to draw water since his name is dry, and he put a lot of effort into mastering it. That’s why you should listen to him. Because he started from the bottom
Once you see Mr Drys work its very hard to not compare everything else to his art. Somehow he has with hard work and perfection practice turned his hands into the most amazing camera plus. Jono , you do with a pencil and paper what Neil Peart did with a drum kit in the band Rush. Mr Peart also used a pencil when writing most of the lyrics to Rushes songs.
Hi Jono, when I have a complicated subject, warter being one tree bark could be another one. I focus in an area using a peice of card with a square whole cut out of it, this could be any size depending on you subject. I then use a similar size cut out on my drawing this focus your mind.
"Water has a beautiful way of humbling me, every single time."
Beautiful. 💙
For me the hardest thing about art is patience and consistency.

for me, a little OCD comes in handy

Feeding the algorithm, cause you need to be seen by more people. Breathtaking
It's awesome to see that it is that "simple" in term of pure skill (contrast is the harder part) but the level it require to be able to draw that
