here's an advice from a person who's fluent in French:
don't get confused between *pronunciation* and *accents* .
in every language, you have to learn how to *pronounce* words correctly because a *certain* or *specific* mistake in the pronunciation of a word can lead to a misunderstanding of the word itself.
however, *accents* are a totally different thing.
you might pronounce a word correctly but it won't sound the same as when a native French person or someone who speaks french very well says it. and that's *totally fine* because it's your accent.
of course, you can always improve your accent by speaking more and listening to how French people speak.
anyways, good luck to all people learning French!

As a native English-speaker who has studied Spanish, French, and German -- in that order -- I always tell people that French is by far the hardest to learn at the beginning, because of the very strange pronunciations and spellings. Even at the intermediate level, it can still be a challenge, but it's especially at the beginning that most people are very overwhelmed. Spanish is a breeze by comparison.

Actually one of the biggest hardship in french pronounciation compared to english is that there are close to no diphthongs in french. All of our vowel sounds are short and straight which is unnatural for english speakers.
Mispronouncing the "r" in french is actually less a problem than saying the french vowel sounds when you're a native english speaker who aims to be understood in french.

@@meeekstubbular Spanish grammar is pretty consistent too, especially compared to English and French, there's some stuff that's a pain in the ass for English speakers but the pronunciation is very consistent and there are very few sounds in Spanish that English speakers can't already make (namely the trilled or rolled "r" in Spanish). Spanish doesn't have the mess of the "je, tu, il, elle, on," conjugations for group one verbs all being pronounced the exact same, so we can normally drop the pronoun in Spanish, ("yo, tú, él, ella, nosotros" for the most part have unique conjugations and you normally know who somebody is talking about based on the conjugation,) so it's more efficient.

As a French person, let me tell you something : you don't have to pronounce EVERY sound well. There are some like the "r" that are important because if you can't pronounce it, it can be very problematic to say some words but if you say a French word with an "u" pronounced as in English people will understand and just find it cute ! Of course, if you want to speak French really well then you have to able to pronounce those sounds but what I mean is that when you're beginning to learn this language, don't focus on the pronunciation. At first only learn the important sounds and the others will naturally come with time (:

In France, every region has an accent. My region speaks very slowly and mispronounces “j” (we almost say “ch”) and “g” that we pronounce “c/k”. I cured my accent by living abroad for a dozen of years 😂

"ø" was the most difficult for me to pronounce because the tongue must be in the same position as pronouncing an abrupt "ay" sound, yet the lips must be rounded. This is definitely one way to exercise the orator muscle.
The same goes for "y," although for some reason, though the position of the tongue and lips doesn't make sense in my head, I'm able to pronounce it similarly to Maily's pronunciation on the first try. I'll keep at it so that my brain doesn't freeze up on me any time I pronounce it. ;)

As a native Filipino speaker, I thought pronouncing French words is very difficult but I found it easy lol. Maybe it's because Filipino tongue is so flexible? Haha idk XD✌
    (Sorry for the grammar lol)

True story: Many years ago, I was in France for 8 weeks. By the time I left, I could pretty well understand everything said to me (everyday things, not; e.g., philosophy) and was forming full sentences. Immersion works. Keep listening and trying, and your brain will work it out. Bon chance!!!

We don't pronounce some letters ending the words. So how can we know the differences between a lot of words?

99% of the time you will only pronounce the letters C R F and L at the ends of words. You can remember this as they are the consonants of the word CaReFuL

Making the French R is actually easy to me since I can't pronounce the normal R correctly, and bc one of the dialect in my language have the same French R althou it is spelled as "gh"
and also the French U is also easy to me since I'm learning Vietnamese and they also have the same exact U but spelled as "ư"

I can’t get the difference between “u” and “o” sound...

    • @theSkin_of_a_Killer_Bella
      @theSkin_of_a_Killer_Bella 3 года назад

From my point, the "u" is more like saying "oof" without the "f".
      Now the "o".
      If u pronounce a normal "o" or English "o"(owe).
Then u may or may not realize that when u do, it has a "w" as the ending sound.
So when u pronounce the French vowel, u lessen the "w" sound to barely their or none at all ig. It almost sounds like a quick "oh", or I should say "oh" and it gets cut off at the end before u can fully pronounce the word.

If the lesson goes too fast for some, it may be helpful to know that the playback speed can be slowed down (or sped up, as it were). Tap the three dots in the top right corner of the video and select the playback speed menu. Hope that helps
