Steven Tyler has a foundation now called Janie's house that builds homes for young women who have been abused and just basically need help. He has a huge fundraiser every year around the Grammys I think it is. He's really a great person I've gotten to meet him several times. I remember one time we were all backstage and there was a girl that was talking to him about how their music helped save her and get her into rehab. He didn't care how many people were waiting to talk to him he gave her his ultimate complete attention and I don't think I ever saw his eyes leave her eyes while she told him her story.

Steven Tyler is THE vocalist. His instrument is just so fine tuned after half a century of singing. He's finally retired to take care of that instrument, but his legacy and his lyrics (along with Joe Perry, the lead guitarist who wrote many of the songs with Steven) will live on for decades!

Aerosmith is America's Greatest Rock and Roll band and the best selling American hard rock band of all-time. Their first album came out in 1972. They have spanned decades with huge hits. You have to dive down this rabbit hole. Walk This Way, Sweet Emotion, Love in an Elevator, Rag Doll, What It Takes, Angel, Livin' on the Edge, Train Kept a Rollin', Baby, Please Don't Go (from 2004), Jaded, Back in the Saddle, Draw the Line, Falling in Love (Is Hard on the Knees), Amazing, Cryin', Crazy, F.I.N.E, Eat the Rich and about 100 more. There are too many to list. Steven Tyler is the goat. Enjoy the journey.

When I was a 14ish year old girl (with a wonderful dad, but still), this song felt bones-deep cathartic, for every time I'd been casually creeped on, touched, photographed, catcalled, by men I knew and by total strangers, at way too young of an age to know how to deal with any of it. This right here was empowering in a way I badly needed back then. Nobody was speaking to us about this when&where I grew up, and I found this song by complete accident. And it made me feel like I had a right to all that anger I carried around, from every incident I couldn't explain and couldn't get out of. Still gives me chills to this day.

This was one of a few songs in the "adults didn't want to talk about this stuff happening to kids, but now this song is everywhere I guess maybe we have to talk to our kids and make motions of doing something" genre along with Jeremy, Runaway Train and others. Overnight when this dropped there was a lot of kids asking their parents uncomfortable questions after hearing the lyrics, and good on them for using their platform to bring it up. Sadly still way too common so not as transformative as it could have been, but there were a bunch of kids out there realizing stuff they were going through wasn't normal and wasn't okay, which was validating and hopefully a step in a better direction.

This is one of those the perfect Rock albums. And like Nobody's Fault and Living On The Edge, it's one of the songs where Aerosmith stops partying and gets a conscience, which is one of my favorite things ever.

WOW! This takes me back to when I was 11-13 y/o. The town used to hold free outdoor concerts, and they used to play a few songs when they came. This was before they were noticed and became famous. Steven Tyler is from the tiny state I live in, and he still comes back to his home by one of our well-known lakes about an hour from where I live. His mom was in an exclusive assisted living facility in my hometown and my husband was a full time firefighter. Firefighters were almost always first on the scene of any call, including medical emergencies, and most of them knew her. She enjoyed talking to them. And the actress Liv Tyler is Steven's daughter. She was in her teens the first time they met. Just a bit of trivia for you.

More Aerosmith 😊 I've seen them live twice.
One time I went by myself lol
Back then it was one big party and you could meet people while you're there.
Joe Perry is one of the legend guitar players!

There's no other song that to me sounds so disjointed yet properly cohesive at the same time. It sounds complete and finished, yet somehow missing something - like it's got a head and legs that are somehow connected without a body in-between. I don't know how better to describe it. Amazing song and craft.

Little 10 year old me is smiling so big right now :) This was some of the first rock n' roll I remember, and I loved it! It was nothing like the BS hair metal of the same era. These guys were so good, and I knew they were special.

What a treat rediscovering this song and seeing you enjoying it so much too. Gotta respect your serious commitment to these videos MollyBoy. You definitely got me hooked. It's like a cliffhanger at the end of every video wondering what's coming next. And your little aside glances to the camera. So endearing!

Aerosmith is one of the biggest bands of all time! They've been around since the early 70s and still touring. One of the first big 'hard' rockers. Endless songs!

This guy Joe Perry the lead guitar player is one of the best guitar players in Rock n Roll History and one of the most underrated guitar players in Rock n' Roll history the MF can play that guitar!!!! Joe tears it up on every song Aerosmith creates!!! Love Love some Joe Perry!!!

I love Joe Perry's solo for the reason you said. It's crazy. I think it reflects how Janie is feeling. Torn apart by what her father has done to her and grappling with defending herself against him using the gun she's obtained. It is just the perfect complement to Steven's storytelling in the lyrics.

I saw Aerosmith perform this live in the Birmingham Exhibition Centre UK in 1991, I have never seen anything like it since. Steven Tyler is a once in a lifetime phenomenon and for him to hook up with a band of musicians to match him was nothing short of miraculous. I will take that memory to the grave.
