One of the most inteligent parts of the game. Everything tells you to escape, including the script. I refused to abandon her, and I am glad I did. AMAZING GAME!
Reminds me of rescuing Paul Denton. Paul Denton tells me to escape through the window but if you do, he dies. If you stay and face the incoming army instead, you can save him.
I like that it's not a binary dialogue choice but rather an emergent one, the outcome depends not solely on your decision but also your performance in gameplay, and that's wonderful game design to me
It's clever because it works on three levels - the first time you play there's an incentive to run away, the second time you kill everybody, the third time you try to perfect your pacifist run. The game has a linear plot, but there's still a big incentive to play it more than once. The design is really smart.
i went through the game non lethal without ever killing anyone, however when i first did this scene and saw them kill faridah..i reloaded my save and went full berserk with typhon spamming everywhere

@@DiGreatDestroyer I too threw my pacifist run in the trash the first time this mission hit, and did not regret a thing. Had a fully upgraded pistol, never bothered to use it...I called it "Break glass in case of emergency." That pistol came out of the bag that day.
The way you play is how I imagine Adam Jensen would actually be in any non-interactive stuff (movies/comics/whatever) - too fast to be touched by anything. Well, anything not as augmented as he is, anyway. Very good job! :)

I didn't know you could save her til after I went up the elevator and out the door, but by then there were too many auto-saves for me to go back. Felt like shit when I saw her corpse on a operation chair later on.
Simple: By not saving her. ;-) But yes, I could have figured it out. :-D And In the meantime I have returned to the game and done a non-lethal run myself. And she survived! Yay!
I thought her death was canon for months until I came across the walkthrough to save her, I went fucking nuts. Till this day I haven't gone back to save her. ;'/
I like how some of Jensens takedowns are complete overkill, like working somebody's arm three times just before whacking them on the head to take them down, but I LOVE how one of this front-facing takedowns is just abruptly right hooking them on the jaw so hard they spin around and fall.
So... -you wear sunglasses and a black jacket. -you kicked everyone unconscious with kung-fu moves. -you dodged bullets while rushing trough gunfire. I'm having a deja-vu
Great work. I used all my gas grenades right away to incapacitate the guys on the ground, then my revolver with exploding bullets finished the guys on the higher levels. Malik defintely has a giny tingle for Jensen, so I had to reward her for her good taste in men, as well as her skills as a pilot and colleague.
I didn't even realize this part was possible non-lethal. I just went nuts with the explosive revolver. Is it doable non-lethal on Give Me Deus Ex difficulty?

Hell yeah it is, just stack up on protein bars and don’t forget to upgrade the right skills And if you have the Director’s Cut version of the game, you can do New Game + even, and then you’ll have no problem at all doing this
I used this as a guide just a while ago. I also used the Stun Gun you can find in the utility closet under the Sarif Co. Helipad. You get 9 shots from there, which is more than enough to make up for not having enough Cyberboost items.
I tried to finish the game without killing. just knocking out. but at that moment I couldn't help it. I had to save her and in the end I felt so happy and relieved. because the first time I played this game I didn't know I could save her
I honestly didn't know if the whole thing was supposed to be scripted at the time I played this part, but without hesitation, I stayed behind and tore those guys to pieces, even abandoning my pacifist-so-far playthrough to save Ferida. I know you can do it non-lethally, but ehh, I got caught up in the moment. I can always get it in another playthrough. It was worth hearing that little exchange at the end.
@misnoto It is a fairly unique moment where you have a short amount of time where they entirely focus on the VTOL. However if you get in their vision, between them and the VTOL they will start shooting you. I am still using stealth, just very fast paced and within the rules I've been allowed.
@seberusnet I've already covered that in previous comments. Yes, this wasn't the save I went ahead with. This was my second take of the fight, the third I grabbed the two guys by the mech and used the strength augment to toss them aside. And the sniper didn't get punched, he got bear hugged. But this was the take I was running playclaw on.
I normally do the tactical stealth and takedown routines against the guards, cause it's not their fault that they got tapped to try and keep me out of a building. But on this mission? Maxed out revolver into the brainpan for all of them. No one tries to kill Malik on my watch...
0:18 waiting for the other guy to knock out two with single takedown is very nice touch. 0:34 I wonder if there was opportunity to knock out sniper by pushing him off the roof.
@hiddinsmile Two tubs and a box, I think... Has been a while. I don't use energy bars normally except in situations where I've got 2 or 3 clear take downs and I'm too impatient to let the guards do another full circuit of their patrol route.
Smooth moves. Very impressive. Good use of those Cyberboost energy bars. I had like a massive pile of them at the end of the game and wish I abused them more. I tried this fight by sniping at first and lost her, so I reloaded and attempted it with my 100% accurate laser sighted Heavy Rifle and mowed down everything with ease. Used the revolver+explosive rounds to deal with the bot.
i like how he bends the back, shoulder and elbow of that one guy in a way that wouldnt hurt at all, more like a chiropracticioner that mobilizes a client
@@GrimoireOfAlice These guys are moving around lots but if move up behind those guys in the middle and throw an emp grenade at the mech, then non-lethal the rest of them you'll be fine, you might have to retry a few times but those guys will move to a proper spot for you so you don't end up accidentally killing 😬

when doing the pacifist achievement back then i had lots of energy bars and invisibility, just had to make sure to move the guys away from the robot and EMP it. if not for the achievement i would have though her death as part of the story, glad i wanted all the achievements
Yes, reminds me of the Samantha Carter(Sam)/Colonel O'Neill relationship in Stargate (TV series). Supposedly just colleagues and that's it, but , well, if you've ever watched the show, you'll know what I mean.
Awesome use of takedowns. I completed the non-lethal version by using all my power on Stealth and doing a combo of stunning takedowns and taser-gun / emp grenade use. I think your way was better, and probably used less bars. :)

With the exception of the heavy which as you'll see, he does see me and even begins to wind up his heavy rifle but I get him before he lines up his shot. The npc's are distracted and have a kind of tunnel vision where they won't attack you unless you are directly within their cone of vision. And at this point in the game, I have grown used to flanking from side of enemies for quick stealth take downs.
I was so tense every time I never noticed how cool that engine sounds when it spools back up at the end. Very smooth moves. The take down to grenade to reposition to take down was....*french man kissing noise* Moi.
I never even thought to try to do this part up close, like this. I figured staying on the roof and using a sniper rifle or whatever was the only viable solution.
@veipper Oh I know, I redid it after and punched him into the pillar instead... Didn't look as cool. You also have to pick up the guy you knock out by the mecha and throw him somewhere safe otherwise the self-destruct will kill him too.
@GrimoireOfAlice Okay, i've got the xbox version, and switching weapons is a real pain. As wel as that you aim through the iron sights by clicking the right analog-stick, instead of holding the left trigger. There's just not enough buttons on the controller to really cover all the actions you can do in Deus Ex. It's still a great game though, even on the console.

That pretty much sums it up. You've got some skills. On my first playthrough of this game, I did this with 17 10mm rounds, 60 machine pistol rounds, 1 concussion grenade and 1 emp grenade. Problem TYM? *insert troll face here*
@Wings012 I usually use the bars when I've got two or three clean stealth knockouts in the space of a short time... What I assume they were intended for. This is just an extension of that and what better time to use them?
I guess they felt the need to call back to saving Paul in the original Deus Ex although that was dodgy in that you merely had to leave through the front door instead of the window. In that case as well it looks like the odds are against you but it's possible

I can't evem remember how I saved her my first runthrough.
I just remembered retrying over and over until I did.
I spend the whole game saving up energy bars for this fight, and for the crazies in the last stage.

It was a cocksucker to pull off but I was able to save Malik, get pacifist and foxiest of the hounds.

This is a good approach to this fight. I took a more brute force approach by chewing on energy bars and typhooning all the guards and robots.
I used a lot of gas grenades when I did this. This is cooler.

The sniper on the balcony fell off. He will prevent you getting no kills achievement.
He was fine, it was actually the mech blowing up that killed people.

I guess they felt the need to call back to saving Paul in the original Deus Ex although that was dodgy in that you merely had to leave through the front door instead of the window. In that case as well it looks like the odds are against you but it's possible
That was awesome, I didn't even realize you could save her. Was this on easy? I played through the game on hard the first time and this was so tough, I had to keep killing then ducking out of sight to stay alive.
