Very good explanation on how to adjust the balance, especially the counterbalance control.
Nice job on the review. My experience with these heads is not quite as rosy as yours! I think they are good, but not great heads. If perfectly balanced, they hold position very well and have overall smooth movement. The problem they I keep coming across is that there's a certain degree of "stickiness" on the start of a pan/tilt if I have the pan setting turned way up, which is how I like to work. So that means if I initiate a move it sometimes hiccups at the start which is very annoying. I've got four of these and they all do that.
These are definitely better than the 502s, which are garbage, but not a buttery as my old Vinton Vision.
I'm saving up for the Sachtler Aktiv system. I'm intrigued by the Speedswap approach, and the reviews on the smooth movement look promising.

I run gimbals 99% of the time. But still interested if I'd ever get a manfrotto or sachtler. Still undecided.
Hello, I bought one, and the tilt fluid drag knob is making a crackling noise when adjusted a bit hard/fast. Do you have this? Also, how hard is the maximum drag (tilt) ??
I have a fully rigged up Nikon Z9 system... i feel like all in it's under 8lbs, but i'm maxing out the counterbalance already with the 608.... would I benefit from the 612, or will it not be heavy enough?? Find it hard to find a fluid head that truly counterbalances where it will stay exactly at any angle you place the camera... I couldn't even get the sachtler aktiv8 to do it properly. Thoughts, suggestions, ideas?
It sounds like the 612 might be better but I'd check the payload specifications. The 612 counterbalances my red and black magic perfectly.

I just bought one and I've gotta be honest, it's nothing like my Cartoni. That head is aweful as far as tilt goes and does not properly support it's claimed weight in that regard. I can get buttery smooth tilt and pans with my cartoni and the nitrotech couldn't be further away from that. Even my old Benro does better than the nitrotech.
The legs are nice though, I'll give manfrotto that. That said, I'm returning mine.
