WOW. This is lovely. I originally wanted a P226 Legion.. but watching your video, and I'm a .45ACP guy more so than 9mm. I will try to hunt down a P220 Legion because this catches my attention a lot. Thank you Sir.

I do have the P220 Legion SAO 45acp and I love it. Smooth action while shooting is a plus. The slide release on all the Legions (Classic Lines) are hard to actuate. So I do the over hand rack. I was fortunate late last year to get the P220 Legion SAO in 10mm and it's a tack driver. Slide and barrel a bit longer. Great review as always sir! 👍

My fiancé has one of these in 10 mm. I don't know why, but it has the standard curved shoe trigger, and it's an sao model. It's heavy like hell cause it's a stainless steel frame as opposed to a metal alloy. I have the 226 Sao model, and it's my pillow gun. One of the absolute best shooting guns I own.

I really appreciate this video. My local shop has an unfired P220 legion SAO that was the owner's (probably one he earned on points for Sig sales) for under $1k. I keep debating Sig vs. HK for my next handgun purchase. I do prefer 45 to 9 although I shoot both and I really. Something about the quality of the P220 and the HK USP keeps bringing me back to looking at them.

I had one. It was nice, but FOR ME, I felt like there was nothing it did that was better than the 1911. It was slightly lighter, but it was bigger and clunkier. Mags are harder to find and they were around $50 if I remember correctly. Decided to move it on to a new owner. If I ever buy another Sig, it’ll be the P226 SAO. That’s my favorite gun that Sig makes and it’s an incredible shooter.

I would actually make the argument that the SiG P220 Legion is a viable 1911 alternative for a few reasons.
    1) Durability. The 1911 can get as damaged ejector if you smash the magazine too harshly when the slide is locked back from an empty magazine, and you can in many cases damage a 1911 entirely by dropping the slide on an empty chamber. You don't have those issues with modern pistols like the Beretta 92 or SiG P22X series like you do the 1911.
    2) Reliability. 1911s are not as reliable as most modern stuff under harsh conditions. That's just the way this works. The SiG P226 and P220 have LEGENDARY reliability, and these days with less cleaning, any modern gun will be more reliable than a 1911 that hasn't been as well taken care of and babied.
The 1911 I don't wanna say it's fragile, but it kind of is in comparison to a Glock, Walther PDP, CZ-75, SiG P22X, Beretta 92, Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0.... anything else out there right now.

    • @MDpolo

Same capacity as a 1911 but bigger in width. Steels are just an Fe-C alloy. If Iron has the highest weight-% overall and it has usually less than 2 weight-% carbon, that's a steel. 'Stainless Steel' is just amazing marketing for NiCr steels. Check the slide weights of the commander and the 220.
Have you tried a CZ 97BD? Sadly no longer made.

Trigger travel ruined it for me, same trave/creep I've seen on other youtube videos.
I also have some creep with my 220 but after having matched parts from different guns, I've reduced the creep to almost non-existence. In addition to a matched srt oem kit, my p220 trigger hast strong/positive/tactical/quick reset that's all very smooth with a skinny/srt trigger.
I like the single action safety layout so I can have my high grip and not having slide not locking back, but that legion sao trigger set up is not for me. I would put a stronger/smoother trigger kit in.
Sig trigger srt is mighty good but a 1911 trigger is king due to design.

I'd pick this P220 SAO over a 1911 on reliability alone. It's simply a more reliable design. I love the looks, history, and trigger of a good 1911, but from a functional standpoint, the SIG P22X series is superior.
