Me too :-) There's a REASON this guy was identified as a top-class example of an exciting and inspiring presenter. This guy is absolutely awesome! So is his message. I'm really glad I was recommended to watch this.
Thank you Google Data Analytics for tagging this as one of the TED Talks to watch to see an example of a great presentation. It is one of the best talks I've seen--the passion in the message, the perfect cadence, and of course, the 3 bones and the numbers (>90% success rate in 3 yrs!, also love the 51/49 concept) make this presentation quite compelling and inspiring. Bravo, Mr Serwanga! Thank you for this.
there are some good videos and explanations of SQL, spreadsheet functions and Tableau. However, there is so much basic info like "what is data" "what is a line chart" that I was skipping thru the course a lot. @@horse3k415
Very inspiring 1. Wishbone (State what you want!), the Jawbone (Ask with competency and humility!), and the Backbone (Persist, persist, persist!). 2. Networking at its best is not about you. It's about what you can do for others Thank you Google Data Analytics for tagging this TED Talks
This is what I learned from the videos: be brave enough to meet new people, be competent (know what you are talking about), be humble (be nice and try to connect with the person). And to successfully connect with the person, try to figure out what the person might need, so put yourself in the person's shoes. That might reinforce your change. And the last point is consistency: try to connect with many people, and one day you will find the right person.
My professor for Ethnic Entertainment sent me to this video as we are learning how the importance of networking in the entertainment industry. One of my goals this year was to start networking and I think this is a sign from above lol. I resonated with his point about stating what you want from people. My mother always taught me that closed mouths don't get fed and we can quote the scripture, "You have not, because you ASK not." Definitely keeping this video in my arsenal.
The Google data analytics course brought me here. The message is so concise but detailed. Know what you want, give more and persist. Overall networking is all about a balanced social exchange.
My Google Data Analytics course brought me here. As an elementary school teacher, you grabbed my attention immediately! The concept of 51/49 in networking was eye-opening. Wishbone, Jawbone, and Backbone - check, check, and check!

Apart from the very important and necessary topic this young man is addressing, I think this presentation set the perfect example of how engaging an exposition should be. At one point, I was complaining in the first minute about having to watch a nine-minute-long video to complete a course module, but then I realized that I was just finishing the video and was craving more. Thank you to Mr. Serwanga for sharing this knowledge with us, and good luck to those who are completing or will complete the Google Data Analytics Professional Course. Keep learning and don't give up; all the effort and the time invested will pay off.
This TEDx Talk is part of my assignment for the Google Data Analytics course. I've already begun networking but feel so out of place sometimes or not sure what to say. Getting clear on what I want, knowing the industry, and being persistent will help me in my pursuits.
Very informative information that I will share with my college students. I love the way Mr Serwanga broke down the steps of networking into 3 bones. You can see that he is passionate about sharing this message! An awesome talk!
Thank you google for letting me know the networking. In my background, I believe ask someone for help, which worry others. So most of time, I avoid to communicate with others. I try to listen or watch, but no talk. This speech reminds me the old saying in China "There are 3 people, 1 of them must be my teacher". Networking is important in whole life.
Networking at its best is *not* about you. It's about what you can do for others... Obviously, this isn't about selling your soul to the time clock or socializing with people you'd rather not be with for the sake of a promotion. It's about developing yourself into a person who works hard, means what they say, looks out for others, shares a genuine interest, etc. To find such a person is a RARE thing. Good people recognize it and just as importantly, admire it. Those are the kinds of people you want to lean on, and they likewise know that they can count on you when the opportunity arises. (And that's when the job offers come in...) Really, this is all summed up in one word: "karma." Hope this helps.
As Google Data Analytics course brought me here, I told myself I was not going to watch the full 9 minutes of it. Well I did and I loved every minute of it. Loved the passion, message, and inspiration.

Hi, I am one of the hundreds, if not thousands, doing the Google certificate here. I want to wish everyone good luck with their careers. As for myself, I’m not entirely sure what I want to achieve with all of this yet. I love blockchain and finance, as well as their "child," DeFi, and everything that comes with it: lending, borrowing, financial products, indicators, staking, stocks, bonds... and A LOT of charts. I think I’ve seen thousands upon thousands of charts. Some were art pieces, while others were highly interactive, with drawing tools and statistical filters. I even took some Python courses a while ago, where I worked with Numpy, Pandas, and Matplotlib, but I have not coded much...I understand basic concepts I want to learn how to transform all this knowledge and experience into simple, easy to understand visuals that can help others make the right decisions. You’re putting your own definition to networking. Networking is not limited to just connections, but it is sub-factor to having an open perspective. From that a creation of many new ideas and perspectives can form from the understanding of another’s view of such. Networking will never be taught, but conscious thinking will.
