  • Networking is one of the most crucial skills needed for success. It is also one of the most daunting tasks for people of all ages. Andrew hasn’t needed a CV for the past 5 years. Here he shares his tips and tricks to becoming a master networker and accelerate the opportunities coming your way. It’s not what you know, it’s who you know. But not all of us grow up with family business connections - so how can we each build a network of meaningful relationships to maximise our impact? Since becoming an Institute of Directors Ambassador 4 years ago, Andrew has become a prolific networker. He attributes every single opportunity that has come his way in recent years to meaningfully connecting with people both online and offline. How can we avoid empty transactional networking and nurture genuine human connection in our professional lives? Find out in this session. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Hardest part of Networking would be the start, learning what to say to who and having to remember the key details that matter, while forgetting the ones that wont. Every conversation has to have logical attacks to the person so they will become intrigued, and actually listen.

Personally, I absolutely agree with the fact that networking is now one of the most important areas in building relationships. If you don't know how to interact with people, then why are you building a business, for example? As the author said, this is a really cool opportunity when you are offered some startups, positions simply because of getting to know you, because once during a conversation you told them about yourself. And you don't have to wait for luck in money, career, etc., if you don't communicate with anyone

For example, add them on social media. Or get their business card. Or have a QR code on your phone. When they scan your QR code, they got all your contacts and social media handles

Well, yes, I think all those points do make sense, and this guy knows what he is talking about, but… those thoughts really are common and hackneyed. Nothing new here for me, unfortunately.
