    🚨Q35 UPDATE PLEASE READ🚨
Soundcore has released a firmware update that fixed the EQ shift issue I highlighted in this review. The Life Q35 are now a good recommendation. However, I still stand behind my recommendation of the Life Q30 being a better value.

First off, a big thank you for holding the review to make sure you weren't missing something, or had a bad sample. This is why you are my guy when it comes to wireless audio. I'm a little disappointed these don't meet your expectations, but hopefully Soundcore can get this straightened out with software and firmware updates. If they are able to get these sorted, they're definitely a steal at the current pricing.

El Jefe is the only one who's honest about Q35. The ones ive watched is just hyping this up.
This is why I love El Jefe's video. He's brutally honest and don't want to waste our money unlike other RUclipsrs who licks the boots of audio company to get sponsorship money. We've seen El Jefe stood up to his reviews and for us against Bluedio.

Thank you for the honest review. Just bought mine about 10 days ago and am waiting for the arrival. I was already expecting the EQ shift to be a problem ever since the first video I watched about the Q30 and later on watching other videos about the Q35, that you had to mess with the EQ in app to take full advantage and bring out the true sound quality of it. So I thank you for reinforcing this subject. I was OK with having this little work once it arrives, but now I'm actually eager to really fine tune it.

      Thanks for the great review!
I totally agree that the Soundcore Signature EQ setting is muddy and way too bassy.
But it's also true that with the app you can EQ them to sound great!
However, like you, I've always wondered why that's the first impression Soundcore want's to give you of their products ( I've found its the same with all their stuff).
I found myself nodding in agreement with that point totally. Your review was dead on. I have the Life Q30s and the sound shift with NC and transparency isn't too bad. But you're right. When that's an annoying feature it should be taken care of in an updated model! I'm a big Soundcore fan but they are letting their fanbase down in this way. So appreciate the straight goods in your review El Jefe. You are an excellent reviewer!

I love these. I set MusicBee the same EQ preset electronic, and using the cable for wired, and they sound exactly the same on my laptop, as how I have them set on my phone with the Soundcore app, with EQ on electronic. Sounds so good, and I do not care what people say that there is too much bass. I love the bass and lots of highs too, and sounds balance between all. First headphones to sound the same via wired or bluetooth for me. The only difference I have between wired and bluetooth, is I turned ANC off with wired to save battery and use ANC on bluetooth. Still sounds awesome!

The app is still the best feature on both because we can get patches and adjustments over time so despite this current issue you mentioned with the EQ shift (first time I saw this on a review for these headphones), I believe this will be addressed in the future and fixed as well
In my opinion, having LDAC (I'd prefer aptX instead) and wearing detection don't seem enough for a 50 buck increase as these Soundcore models are intended to be budget-friendly, but they're still a fine piece of tech for their retail price (even better on deals at their official site)

Thanks for the review. I'm late to the comment party but I have been interested in the Q35 for a while. I did have a chance to hear one in a retail outlet and noticed the heavy bass presence, but that also could have been the selections they had available to listen to which were already bass-heavy.
You bring up a good point about the bass in these headphones and the tendency for manufacturers to tune these things with stupid amounts of it out of the box. I know that most people who buy wireless headphones want that big bass, which I get, but I don't manufacturers realize that non-bassheads (audiophiles?) want these kinds of headphones too. It would be nice to see headphones like this come out of the box tuned relatively "flat". That way, bassheads can go into the app to thump them out and those who prefer a more balanced sound can make slight tweaks, or none at all, to get the sound they want.
I don't know, maybe it's just me because I'm an old-timer audiophile but some of us do embrace these cool, BT headphones. But we have to bring the sound back! Features are great but if the sound sucks, it's a fail. Maybe we should start a petition to have manufacturers #bringbackthesound to their headphones. And Soundcore is in a great position to do that since they make pretty good quality products overall.

Great Review, Jeff. You're right in saying that the Q30 is the better buy - but that's partly Soundcore's fault. Being that the Q35s are released so soon after the Q30s, besides the issues you raise, I find it confusing why they didn't upgrade to BT ver. 5.2, and offer HearID on them, their new flagship model, to further distance it from the Q30s. My guess is that the "real" release will be a Q40, with this just being a placeholder until then.

Spot on review! I should've trusted my instincts, and your impressions of these headphones,
but I left my favorite NC headphones, the Sennheiser HD 4.50 in black with beautiful red trim, in the back of an Uber, and was unable to retrieve them. I got them on sale, brand new, from Best Buy for $85 2 years ago. Loved their sound!
Anyway, I wanted to replace them and decided to go for these, in obsidian blue, one of the selling points for me as LDAC won't be useful.
In your review, when you got to the part about them not sounding very good out the box, and how you had to jump through equalizer hoops to get good sound, I was immediately reminded of the Taotronics BH060 which I picked up for the sweet price of $40 a few years back. They were MORE comfortable than the Q35s IMHO!
I ended up returning them because of all the eq tweaking that was necessary to sound good. My Sennheiser's sounded good out the box, with or without ANC.
Based on this, I think the 35s are overpriced. As good as they look in this special dark blue, I may return them and spring for the Q30s instead because at $70ish, I can overlook their shortcomings more easily!

    1) Do the EQ profiles save to the headphones and get applied everywhere (BT and wired)
    2) Does it turn on BT mode with a magnetic tip plugged in. (the same as just connecting a cable with no power to it)
    3) Do other audio cables work with it (I've test 2 other from amazon that didn't work with the Q20 but do with other audio devices)

      1. Saved to headphones. DSP or "EQ" only applies while headphones are powered on. Unpowered the driver tuning is not very pleasant. These need DSP to sound good.

Excellent review. Glad to hear that Soundcore fixed the EQ shift issue. I really like the Life Q30 as they are way cheaper than the Life Q35, but I will be getting the Life Q35 over the Life Q30 as I heard that the ANC doesn't work on the Q30 when wired which is a huge deal breaker for me as I do tend to use my headphones wired a lot of the times. However, with the Q35 ANC does still work even when wired. When I contacted Soundcore directly asking which of their over-ear headphone models support wired ANC and which ones don't they said that the Life Q20 and Life Q35 support wired ANC and that the Life Q20+ and Life Q30 don't support wired ANC.

I returned my Q30s because I couldn’t stand the “faucet” sound in the background when I had ANC activated. I also just couldn’t get the clarity to an acceptable level for my taste despite extensive EQing.
Looks like I’ll be skipping these, too. Thank you again for always keeping it real!

I'm of the mind THAT you got a defective pair. PSA to the world, ELECTRONIC DEVICES HAVE A HIGH FAILURE RATE!! Actually, anything with a host of moving parts is susceptible to quality control issues. Take Apple as a brand, people worship THEM (I mean THAT literally) but they have a ton of quality control issues. We should really temper our expectations for electronics as a whole, particularly BLUETOOTH devices, as it's a relatively new technology!!

I 100% agree, all that EQing really should not have to happen between ANC on and off. I could see plenty of people really getting annoyed with that...worse if it 8s someone like me who doesn't really need ANC that much in the first place. Feels like for the extra money I am buying into an experiment that ain't nowhere near done.

I had the sound core q30 and then I gave it to my nephew. I went to go and purchase them again and then saw the q35. I am a person who rejects the stock sound of any and every headphone so I am a custom EQ guy. Also if you go to the other 22 presets many of them can take that bass out. I do agree that the base is a little strong coming out of the box and they should do better on an update on the firmware. I like the Matte finish on the blue headphones. I had the blue headphones for the q30 but that blue was more of a bluish purple color but this one is blue and it looks more premium. They feel better than the q30. I like the Wear detection. It didn't work right at first but once I put them on my head a few times they work perfectly. These headphones once you EQ them the LDAC support really shines. I believe the q life series of headphones are designed for those who like different presets and customization. If you are a person that doesn't care about customization and you just want everything out of the box and that's it.... Then you probably want to pass on these headphones. But if you are an audio file and you really really really like customizing your sound then these are great. They are probably going to go on sale I would then buy them once they go on sale.

Well, I used to have Cleer Enduro ANC headphones but they had codec issue that randomly gave noise feedback. I tried to deal with it but I switched to SBC off of the HD codecs, and the noise feedback issues went away but I did not want headphones I could not be able to use Hi Res audio. So I contact Cleer Audio over it, and they told me to send them back and they sent me a egift card to Amazon to buy other headphones. I bought these Soundcore Life Q35 and they sound really awesome and no problems ever so far for like I had with the Cleer headphones.

Thanks very much for the the very honest review man. I recently got the Q30 just over 2 months ago. When I saw the Q35 I was excited, mainly due to the wear-detection. However, even that pales in comparison if I'm getting negative sound quality.
I guess a suggestion for those who have upgraded could be to maybe have one custom EQ profile for normal mode and another for ANC/Transparency mode. With the Q30 that's what I did until I eventually played with the EQ and got something that sounds good in all 3 modes.
But as it stands, I'm personally gonna have to take a pass on the Q35 since to me the upgrade with those issues you mentioned isn't worth it for me.
Thanks very much for your honest review man!

The main issue with a lot of Soundcore products imo is that the majority of the crowd they're targeting happens to have a lot of people who literally only care about low-end frequencies. Yes, its certified Hi-Res by JAS just like how OneOdio's Pro 50 is literally certified by JAS as well. It just means that the headphone can produce certain frequencies.

Well, I decided to give them a go again, and got them yesterday and the black ones. They seem to work a heck of a lot better this time, and already latest firmware without updating them. Only issue this time is really no issue, and that was the sensor for pausing on and off head. Outside wind causing it to flip out and noises from inside business make it flip out but I turned the feature off unless I use in my apartment only. Otherwise, they work a lot better than the ones I had almost a year ago.

Hello El Jefe! Thanks for your review! I have just received a pair of q30 and a pair of q35 from Amazon to give it a test and decide. After unpacking and connecting, the q35 has received an update to firmware v1.20. I must say I clearly hear the difference between normal and nc mode on q30, but I can’t hear it on the newest firmware version of q35. They are pretty bassy by default though, but that can be easily fixed by setting up the EQ to your taste just once, since the normal/nc mode issue seems to be fixed. Also, they sound a bit more open and clear than q30, to my opinion. Will keep the q35 - for 89 eur (prime day) it is a steal.
