Guide to Cleaning the Springfield Armory XDM Elite
The Springfield Armory XDM Elite is a popular choice among shooters for its reliability, accuracy, and advanced features. Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential to keep your firearm functioning properly and to extend its lifespan. This guide will walk you through the steps to effectively clean your Springfield Armory XDM Elite.
    Step-by-Step Cleaning Process
    1. Ensure Safety
Check for Ammunition: Make sure the handgun is unloaded. Remove the magazine and visually inspect the chamber to confirm it is empty.
Engage the Safety: Engage the manual safety and keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction during the cleaning process.
    2. Disassemble the Handgun
Remove the Magazine: Press the magazine release button to detach the magazine from the grip.
Check the Chamber: Confirm again that the chamber is empty.
    Field Strip the XDM Elite:
Pull the slide back slightly and lock it in the open position using the slide stop lever.
Rotate the takedown lever down (toward the 6 o’clock position) while maintaining the slide in the locked position.
Release the slide to the forward position.
Pull the trigger to release the slide completely from the frame.
Remove the recoil spring and guide rod by pulling it out from the slide.
Tilt the barrel upward and remove it from the slide.
    3. Clean the Barrel
Use a Cleaning Rod: Attach a patch soaked in gun cleaning solvent to a cleaning jag and run it through the barrel from the chamber to the muzzle.
Scrub the Bore: Use a bronze or nylon brush on the cleaning rod to scrub the inside of the barrel, focusing on areas with carbon buildup and residue.
Dry the Barrel: Run clean, dry patches through the barrel until they come out clean.
Oil the Bore: Apply a light coat of gun oil to a clean patch and run it through the barrel for protection against corrosion.
    4. Clean the Slide and Frame
Use a Brush and Solvent: Dip a toothbrush or cleaning brush into gun cleaning solvent and scrub the inside of the slide and frame, focusing on areas where fouling accumulates.
Wipe Down Surfaces: Use rags or paper towels to wipe down the inside of the slide and frame, removing dirt and debris.
Clean the Firing Pin: Use a brush or patch soaked in solvent to clean around the firing pin, ensuring it is free of fouling.
    5. Clean the Recoil Spring and Guide Rod
Wipe Down: Use a cloth or paper towel to clean the recoil spring and guide rod, removing any residue.
    6. Clean the Exterior
Wipe Down the Grip and Frame: Use a cloth or paper towel dampened with solvent to wipe down the grip and frame of the handgun, removing fingerprints and dirt.
Inspect for Damage: Check for any signs of wear, cracks, or damage that may require attention.
    7. Reassemble the Handgun
Insert the Barrel: Place the barrel back into the slide, tilting it slightly downward to secure it in place.
Reinsert the Recoil Spring and Guide Rod: Position the recoil spring and guide rod back into the slide.
Attach the Slide to the Frame: Align the slide with the frame and carefully slide it back into place until it locks securely.
    8. Final Lubrication and Inspection
Apply Lubrication: Use a small amount of gun oil on a clean patch or cloth to lubricate the moving parts, such as the slide rails and locking lugs.
Wipe Down the Exterior: Use a soft cloth to wipe down the exterior surfaces of the handgun to remove any fingerprints or excess oil.
    9. Store Properly
Final Inspection: Check to ensure everything is properly reassembled and functioning correctly.
Store in a Safe Place: Place the handgun in a secure and dry location, preferably in a gun safe, to protect it from damage.
    Additional Tips
Frequency of Cleaning: Clean your XDM Elite after each use or at least every few months, depending on how often you shoot.
Avoid Over-lubrication: Excess oil can attract dirt and debris, so use it sparingly. Subscribe to the Skull Crush Inc channel for more gun cleaning tutorial videos.
Use Quality Products: Invest in a good-quality cleaning kit and solvents for the best results.
By following these steps, you can maintain your Springfield Armory XDM Elite in excellent condition, ensuring it performs reliably when you need it most. Regular maintenance not only enhances its performance but also contributes to the longevity of your firearm.

I'm a newbie gun owner concerned that I might mess up the disassembly of my pistol. After watching this video and then following along step by step I am a lot more comfortable with it. Thank you.

Yeah when I first took apart my wife’s Ruger Security 9 (compact Tiffany blue/nickel slide) I didn’t pay much attention when taking out the recoil spring and was worried that I may have put it in backwards! After shooting the first 75 rounds we took it home and disassembled the pistol to find where the recoil spring sits inside the end of the barrel it had chipped away metal from our slide a decent little chunk too. So I called Ruger and they said you can’t put the recoil spring in backwards and the damage done was enough for me to send in the slide and get another sent to us.

One additional thing I learned is in noticing that you wore rubber/latex gloves.
This was to keep the CLP off your hands and constantly returning to the parts while cleaning and in reassembly.

First time popping that extended mag baseplate off and now can't get it back right... I'm going to try the other, but boy do I feel stupid. I've broken down other mags but never one with an extender on it. When you said "I don't need to show you how to do that in a video," I was like, "Oh yes you do!" LOL

@@ernestogarcia9159 There are dedicated lubricants and CLP liquids. Lube is just lube and CLP is a cleaner, lubricant, and protectant all in one. You can use lube on the high friction areas after you’ve cleaned with CLP if you like. But a CLP is all you need.

You can get a red dot. Which I did. I got the Holosun 508T. It will need a mounting plate. C&H Precision has the right parts. Or... if you don't like red dots, there is a paint you can get to simply paint the top third of your front sight iron. Sort of like with a small nail polish brush. This way it's easier to pick up on the front sight in contrast to your back sight iron.
