What's ironic is that the insulting towards "nerds" here is insulting a good majority of his own audience. Most nerds are hungry for knowledge and willing to read and do the research, it's not all videogames and anime like a good majority tend to think. Because of that the older generation (a good majority of them) are out of touch with the youth and that includes being out of touch with those of us in our 30s and even 40s. You can't insult people that are trying and wanting to make this country better for the right reasons just because we're into something that's deemed "nerdy."

Her comments on how she has to use Marvel references to get their attention because tech people don't know who Voltaire is, is in my opinion equally as bad as bill Maher's insults to nerds. Wtf.

The end result by the pursuit of the end game is always the same, no matter what the product or arena of business. It’s incompatible with meritocratic fairness and human value.

I know right. Bill seems to want to blame "nerds" rather than focus on corporate models that ignore any sense of social responsibility or social contract in favor of profit at all cost. Zuckerberg isn't some autistic who doesn't understand human social mores, he knew what he was doing and he just didn't care because it made him rich.

She is very sharp intellectually. Her voice of reason regarding social media is very much needed. The various social media platforms are basically electronically packaged addiction accessible via a touch screen. Despite all of the mishaps, stumbles and data breaches of the social media apparatus, most of us cannot turn away, even temporarily. At the very least, I think we need to be able to toggle on-off our social media addiction. Kara Swisher is on point here.

This was easily one of Bill’s most frustrating segments. Requiring an ID to use Facebook or Twitter? Wanting to regulate them and force them to be “responsible” for things that aren’t even illegal? This goes against the very spirit of the internet. Bill & this lady clearly don’t understand the importance of the free flow of information.
It’s up to the consumer to have media literacy. It is not Facebook’s job to censor everything you don’t like. Their only responsibility should be to remove things that are ILLEGAL.

that's a smart lady. she's also a nerd. no one broke democracy. democracy is not a perfect system. no system is. the internet amplifies and accelerates everything. so we see all the flaws in people and political and economic systems jump up in our face. don't blame the nerds. we are in uncharted territories. no one knows what lies under the surface of the water. traditionally, the prudent thing to do is to go slow, but that's not an option for techs. or is someone advocating that we should impose speed limits on techs so that human society has more time to catch up? it'll be an interesting conversation but i doubt we can agree on what the speed limit should be, so it's a non-starter

Actually we could compare this to the printing press and it's arrival in the west. It shook the lands of Christendom ,and was the key to the spread of Protestantism. The 30 years war happened because of severly demented animals engaged in imposive their views over other people, who weren't them, following their own dementia af the absolute addiction to uniformization and making everybody a Xerox over you, because you are demented and as such completely unable to deal with the complexity of nature, and seams always for the dements easier to rule by impissing top down over everybody else their own interiors and ways and desires and perceptions, forgetting that those people are not them.

@@Gravelgratious Also, the Reformation itself, had nothing to do with printing press and anything of the kind, remember: nothing what's ever.
      1. Catholicism is not Christianity, is more like Judaism, and is a sever departure from both the Evanghelia and the original Christian dogma as it was made in Constantinople. The Catholics were never Christians, and up to these days many of them, they never accepted Christianity. They are a heresy of middel easten traditional cultures and views, based on sexual slavery and slvery in whatever other way and form, and hey cluster more with Jew and Muslims, currently in the Catholic area only the non-believers hce a Christian kind of spirit and Christian type of idea. Catholicism was invented some 1000 years ago, spreaded ever sice, is a disgusting perversion of both the Scripture and the Christian dogma, is a system mass animalisation and mass slavery, mass desertified on of self, they cluster more with the so called worshippers of the Saint Falus and of human elitism and dementia from the entire southern hemisphere, than with anything to have to do with Christianity. In fact, because of them, the western populations nowadays have no clue wstsoever about what Christianity even is, because they took carein the last 1000 years for Christianity never ever to exist in the west, and eerything having to do with the name of Christ to be ridiculed and dispised, there and elsewere, because they preferred the Babylonan Borthels. People ME in origin have a very hard time most of them to live ad feel by the Christian dogma, this as an emasse phenomenon, and for a very long period of time, and they just use the Bible in a very false manner and to extract and severly twist a verse or another, all in the Ed to legitimize their only true ways, which are the classic middle eastern humanly antropological ways, very similar with the Indus basin cultures actually, less similar but with some influence of very classic African culture, but in this respect way less although there are come influeces, and that's it. Basically, you can call the Catholics the northen extreme of the Indus Basin, if you wish, and the entire hindu-ismic-jews-catholic area and cluster, call it the extended Indus Basin.

What I find interesting is that both participants try to belittle Zuckerberg and insult his intelligence (IQ) and emotional aspect (EQ) ... despite the clear and obvious fact that Zuckerberg IS intelligent and is able to organise groups of people to build software and companies that provide exactly what the majority of people want.
Ms Swisher notes disparagingly that Zuckerberg didn't finish college - as if completing an outdated college education in tech is needed at all. Given Bill's aside that he left to start a company and become a billionaire - I'm not sure she realised the weakness of her put down. And once she starts talking about needing to use Marvel references? Please - you are embarrassing yourself with these pathetic putdowns.
That fact that social media sites have morphed into an unstoppable series of fake news items that are "liked" and specifically sought out by a large section of the community is NOT a fault of the construct - it's a reflection of the populace.

LOVE HER ANSWER!!!!! " You can, insult his entire service and how it's destroying democracy, but don't insult how he looks!"✊😎
We really do need to stop insulting people based on how they look trying to get our point across. I always thought it was a sign of a weak argument when someone couldn't use their words (without insulting someone's looks)to get their point across.

Facebook isn't required. It's a free private service; you do not have to use it. Personally I wonder how they expect anyone to both monitor for bad behavior while simultaneously not censoring first amendment rights. Give them that algorithm and I have no doubt they will immediately implement it. I also think it is easier to blame than to solve the problem.

It has to go both ways. There has to be some sites that should not allow you in unless you've validated your identity. You can't have accountability and anonymity at the same time. I'm not saying every internet site has to be that way. But Facebook used to do this, they used to be college students only and if you didn't have a college email address, you couldn't get in. But once they got big enough, they relaxed that. Comment sections either need to be shut off, limited, or heavily moderated so that spam, trolls, and conspiracy theories can't thrive. Comment sections for places like here, or lots of facebook pages are complete cesspools. And just quite honestly, not every stinking post needs to be commented on. Freedom ain't free. There has to be rules and consequences and more importantly, enforcement.

Besides that Kara is right with the statement that politicians are braindead when it comes to tech, you saw it in his hearings in the US and in the EU committee. Let him testify in front of tech-savvy committee and he wouldn't be able to get away with some minor changes to their TOS.

Ouch! This isn't good. Google tried to impose real names across the board on all its properties, and there was a huge blowback. With universal real names, _everyone_ can track you all the time. There's no way to put in 10,000 hours practicing your offbeat humour online, without _all_ of your clangers coming up on the top of the heap the next time a prospective employer Googles your real name.
Bill, ever heard of what happens in improv, stays in improv? You, of all people, ought to know.
People develop their identities online now. Every time you die on stage becomes part of your permanent record: unless you firewall your half-baked identities under various search pseudonyms. Should it be safer to humiliate yourself in some boozy club than from the comfort of your own couch or office juice bar?
When you earned your comedy chops, did you demand that every heckler in attendance where a visible identification badge, just in case some gin-head got too far out of line?
Bill, surely you can't be quite so dim as to not see both sides here.

You don't have the right to privacy on the internet the moment you engage in a social network. You can have your private emails and communications but the moment you enter into a network used by others and start posting you should be IMMEDIATELY identified. THe internet would be a whole lot more civil if millions of cowards didnt hide behind anonymity.

    • @Michael-di2le
      @Michael-di2le 6 лет назад +1

Well, yes you ARE identified when walking down the street if you, of instance, start bullying someone. Authorities can get involved super quick in such situations, but even without them you are identified to some extent by those people around you who see what you are doing, or who are the victims of your behavior. Anyway i fully support your right to privacy....outside of social situations. If you want privacy don't use social networks. Stick to private ones.
