I think you probably saved my day. I installed a SATA HDD with an adaptor but kept the original 40 pin IDE cable. I can boot from the slayers disc, installed EvoX - but without the disc, I get the error 11, not 13 or 16. When I hold the DVD drive tray so it won't go back in, I can start EvoX without any problems. I was searching for a solution for days, but I think you just told me the solution at 3:00 minutes :) Thanks!
Dude, I have been having issues with this for years, but I never thought to swap the IDE cable when a failure happens. Thank you so very much, now I can really load up my system. Cheers!
good shit man, i really love the little tips, cause they make a big difference. for instance if i have never watched this video and just went off of the other ones ive seen, i would have never had any clue to the spacing and electrical tape for the adapter and hard drive. i potentially could have fucked my system. thanks
This actually helped me alot bro. Thanks for posting a really good Sata install video. Also I used the rubber feet from the bottom of my xbox as a barrier between the adapter and HDD fits perfectly and no fire.
I also have a feeling that in order to get rid of any issues, you should really have a modchip installed. I have no experience with soft modding but it may cause troubles like long lags during booting or any other device detection problems - perhaps realted to locked HDD... All I can say is: with DuoX2 and Xecuter I have no troubles whatsoever, and I do not even need to worry about master/slave jumpers. The only thing that did matter was to use 80 wire cables since 40 wire ones would not boot with Agestar STI-2 SATA PATA adapter.
Is there application I can down load to show me how much Memory I have in GB's? Also I notice all the other applications can't tell how much memory there is.
since your on a softmodded xbox just solder 1 wire to enable TSOP flashing, so you can flash the stock xbox bios with ind-bios 5003 and pretty much you can install any hard drive with hexen cd or auto installer, coz if your hard drive with the soft mod in it died your shit out of luck.
+Casual yes you can but then the xbox wouldn't boot as the xbox original power cable is a yellow cable. not mollex. besides if the adapter you owned didn't have a pin headers and a dvd drive did it wouldn't work still. each device needs a pin header if its being set. by default the xbox dvd drive is slave/cable select
Also if you install a dvd drive and have the right bios on a hard mod. You can put a pc dvd drive in. HOWEVER it will only read copies no original xbox media. Not the biggest pain but for some people that'd be useless
This seems to be today's choice for Xbox. In late 2015 I bought Agestar STI-2 adapters from DX.COM which even have a isolation layer applied, but they no longer sell them and it looks like they replaced them with this exact model. So this has to be the right choice now. Whether you like it or not, there will be a need for SATA drives, being either traditional or SSD. PATA has disappeared completely not to mention the prices.
At this point you better off Tsop you box to make move to SATA easier-once you have unlock you can clone your HD with Raw-copy tool and a dock over to SATA.
What drive series have you had the most success with? I've seen you using a Western Digital Blue in another video. -edit By the way, are you editing the eeproms to make all your Xbox HDD and Motherboards cross-swappable?
Western digital blue is all i use now. tbh i have hardly had any hdds not work or refuse to lock. that seagate in the video didn't even lock and was actually the first one
Yeah, I just finally had success with a 2TB Samsung notebook drive. I found out what was holding me back were all the modchip launched bioses. The issue? I turned off the 'flubber animation' which shortened the boot-up not giving the Sata bridge time to initialize.
do you think a 2.5" laptop hd would possibly work as well? It would need a 3.5" bay adapter bracket too, but I'm thinking this setup would just be more roomy for the xbox. And have you found any database for which sata hard drives support the locking feature?
yes it works i tested it with a Toshiba 750gb. now, with the locking i usually just buy a hard drive and pray it works... funny enough the hard drive in this video didn't lock so i had to get a western digital LOL
the ide cable, what length would be best for this install ? Also would be great if you made an updated video on how to install Coinops (latest version) Visionary etc.
thanks alot, ive never installed any coin-ops so I'm not sure how to do it. I hear that they are up to version 7..i'm going to try and find a location to get that...
Great video! I just got an Xbox from eBay and ready to mod it, I'm planning to get a bigger hard drive, do you know if the 2 TB western digital WD2002FAEX caviar black is compatible? Thanks
So interesting thing I just finished modding my brother's Xbox with a Kingwin. had an adapter just like the one in your video but it failed to work. Was tearing my hair out trying to figure out what I did wrong. The new kingwin boots the XBOX insanely slow. IGR reset works just fine. not sure what I did differently as after the adapter swap the xbox booted right up. It seems that with these adapter boards it is just a crapshoot. Going to post my findings in the Sata/IDE compatibility thread.
Any recommendations where to buy a good 80 wire IDE cable? I want one that I wouldn't have to twist my cable too much and all I can find are 18 inches ones that are too short and placed incorrectly.
Hi dude, great vid, luckily i got the same adapter as you, i have ordered my 80 pin cable too! was hoping to follow your chimp tutorial you mention but its not present in the link! will you still be doing this? also do i need to format my sata drive to ntfs or fat32 before attempting to upgrade hard drive
Jacob Power thank you for your replies mate i appreciate it! I think by doing what you said with the electrical tape to make sure theres no contact to the hd from the board would be ok and not fry it! I will try the chimp method first! If frys the hd then so be it lol Its an old drive anyhow
Okay, stoopid question. Why can't you use the IDE cable that's already in the unit? And, if the one that's in there isn't 80 wire, how in the heck does the 80 wire connect to the other components and mobo? Thanks!
i apologise. that was commented at 420 and i totally read that wrong hahaha... The ide 80 is just faster otherwise it won't boot... it jas the same amount of holes and the plug is almost identical so it will fit just fine however they are usually short so they need to be folded it a stupid way
Hi everyone, updated the hdd link, also if you are waiting for a chimp video, ill probably never do one as ive modded enough xboxs in my time and am moving on... if the links are broken say something and ill fix it! thanks!!
I just cloned my 1tb sata with chimp, everything went fine until i got the error 16, then 21 message. YES i have the stock 40 wire IDE ribbon. If i get the 80 wire will these errors still show or do you know if the cable swap will make it all better? Noticed my stock hard drive isn't booting the xbox up now as well.
sorry for making everyone wait!! since i softmod i need to be able to lock the hard drive and the new seagate in the video doesn't lock. ill try upload one today
Question, i want to update to a hd i have that was on a old modded xbox i just want to install on the new softmodded xbox what setting should i use in chimp to bring over my old hd without erasing?
Most of the time that can't be done. if you put the C:\ as ms dash and lock it to your new xbox then softmod it maybe..... Id recomend ftp all your old stuff to a new xbox and new hard drive
If i have a softmod Which hdd should I buy? because on the internet I can not find information about lock or not lock. can you recommend something good for me? for softmodded console? thank you very much
Three things when recording a video use a tripod as much as possible this will stabilize your video. Second you never want to record in front of a window if you do you want the camera pointing in the opposite direction of the window this makes for better viewing for your subscribers. And 3 know what you're going to say before you press record. I see what you're trying to do here but it wasn't executed very well.
I could make it a perfect video with better lighting and editing. i just have no reason to make it flawless. it's just me talking about sata adapters. spending more time would have no benefit for me, the whole idea of this video is to help people not a have a imax experience. Thanks for your unwanted criticism, hopefully you actually gained something from the time you spent here.
So I picked up a WD Blue HDD with sata. I noticed in the video you said the standard IDE cable might work with 300gb or lower. Mine is 320gb. Would you say its ok to use the 40 wire in the Xbox even with a 20gb difference or stay safe and pick up an 80 wire?
Actually, it isn't the cable thats the issue, I got the same adapter and the same kind of HDD and ran into a error 13 when I had finnished cloning it once i put it back in. While a 80 wire cable will work, the problem is actually how non-samsung CD drives handle cable select, and putting the hdd adapter after it on the IDE cable causes some kind of confilct that prevents the HDD from being read properly. The fix is pretty simple, just put the HDD before the CD drive and the adapter in cable select (just remove the bridging thingo), and bam, it works great. My 1tb sata drive runs perfect in there, the only downside is the length of the cable, i got it fit, but it took a bit of effort.
I bought the SATA adapter and 80 pin IDE cable from the video, and I am having issues getting Chimp to detect the SATA drive. I set the jumper on the adapter to the slave setting. can someone confirm that is what the adapter should be set to? I've tried repeatedly with no success.
Hello, nice video . I have mod xbox, alladin xt evo, and I added 250 sata hdd with the adapter works but I can not create a partition G, the partition is visible but has 0 mb ??? I not changed "80 wire" or it may be the reason ??
just tsoped and when I flashed the bios there was 2 version one for f&g and one just for F, I think F is around 140gb and g takes the rest, there is also a setting in the dashboard to enable F/G if its setup.
Hello. I tried this with a 500 GB SATA SSD and an HDE IDE to SATA adapter and it kind of works. I have a strange issue though. The Xbox hangs and shows a blank screen on boot, and the only way to get into EvoX is to press the eject button on the DVD drive. Then, it boots into EvoX. It only happens with an SSD. With a mechanical SATA drive, it boots straight into EvoX. Anyone know why SSDs would be a problem? I tried it with two different SSDs, different brands and sizes, and hthey both required pressing the eject on the DVD before EvoX would start.
sorry it doesn't work, ive got 2 of them same adaptors, ive built 320gb seagate hdd with xbhdm.but when I fit it into my chipped xbox,it just gives error 9.any info would be very much appreciated.ps,the adaptor is on master.
+jason dowsett then you have a 40 wire cable which is the stock. its inportant you use an 80wire because it's faster and will give the xbox more time to read the drive on boot
I think you probably saved my day. I installed a SATA HDD with an adaptor but kept the original 40 pin IDE cable. kennyfication88 haha all good no worries mate, let us know how you go!
Dude, I have been having issues with this for years, but I never thought to swap the IDE cable when a failure happens. Thank you so very much, now I can really load up my system. Cheers!
Clee VonDeath glad to hear i helped buddy
Subbed out of principle. You've done a service to noobs like me
Wild working in an IT industry will do that. Helping the standard user and power user. Glad to see this still helps people!
good shit man, i really love the little tips, cause they make a big difference. for instance if i have never watched this video and just went off of the other ones ive seen, i would have never had any clue to the spacing and electrical tape for the adapter and hard drive. i potentially could have fucked my system. thanks
happy to hear all the best on your system. look up removing the clock cap also. it will save your system and keep it goin, cheers
Thanks for this video. Although I had numerous IDE->SATA adapters, I didn't think to change the stock IDE cable! This did the trick!
This actually helped me alot bro. Thanks for posting a really good Sata install video. Also I used the rubber feet from the bottom of my xbox as a barrier between the adapter and HDD fits perfectly and no fire.
LeagueBrosInc haha nice. glad to help

maiki60fps idk man, i call bullshit on the headers, chipped or not its still got a bios and it will be confused and throw errors if it has two slaves
Thank you I'm going to try this soon hope to see the chimp video you do a great job explaining the little details
Thanks. sometimes i do it too much. But alot of people don't and i just want people to be as informed as possible
Thanks man that was a lot of good information. I got it to work because of this video. Cheers!
awesome to hear!!!
Is there application I can down load to show me how much Memory I have in GB's? Also I notice all the other applications can't tell how much memory there is.
Your dashboard will tell you in mbs. Its easy to calculate. first few numbers are gigs the rest are mbs
your video is a godsend. thanks so much for the tip to prevent the xbox from catching on fire!
Haha thanks. glad i could help!!
cool video.
Here's how to fold an 80 pins ide connector for the sata hard drive upgrade: ruclips.net/video/PzYaKbfWQ44/видео.html
No need for lockable drives when you have a modchip. So for the people having a modchip you can use any HDD till 2tb
Correct
btw i bought one that looked the same as yours. 100 percent identical but it didn't work.
since your on a softmodded xbox just solder 1 wire to enable TSOP flashing, so you can flash the stock xbox bios with ind-bios 5003 and pretty much you can install any hard drive with hexen cd or auto installer, coz if your hard drive with the soft mod in it died your shit out of luck.
+Dino Picardo ind-bios is soild as fuck. but i actually have a tutorial on how to grab the eeprom to relock the hard drive on a stock console
If the DVD drive doesn't work, you could (possibly) set it to Slave, if the SATA adapter is master, and that could (possibly) make it work.
not possible the xbox dvd drive doesn't have pin headers
***** ah, okay. can't you just replace it with one with a header though? I heard that you can replace the drives in them
+Casual yes you can but then the xbox wouldn't boot as the xbox original power cable is a yellow cable. not mollex.
besides if the adapter you owned didn't have a pin headers and a dvd drive did it wouldn't work still. each device needs a pin header if its being set. by default the xbox dvd drive is slave/cable select

Im getting there im just really lazy
+dsedew efeferf lol
The video has been made, check it!! :)

Haha crazy. Cool deal I got the adapter off ebay on the way. I'll give your process a go in due time. Thanks for the nice vid.
+gamernaut88 no worries. good luck. and if possible try to look at 7000 rpm and not 5000 rpm. because coinops struggles on 5000
the ide cable, what length would be best for this install ? Also would be great if you made an updated video on how to install Coinops (latest version) Visionary etc.
ok sweet yeah good idea!!! ill even give a link out for coinops 6 if i can!! :)

cr4zyw3ld3r you did use an 80wire ide cable tho yeah?
Jacob Power yep, on both adapters
cr4zyw3ld3r interesting
cr4zyw3ld3r whats a kingwin lol
not the one in the video, probably won't work
Any recommendations where to buy a good 80 wire IDE cable? I want one that I wouldn't have to twist my cable too much and all I can find are 18 inches ones that are too short and placed incorrectly.
all of them are like that. just reverse it
I have a new video that talks about getting a sata extension to make less twisting and everything easier
you can also use a round ide cable to make routing easier, might also decrease the chances of signal interference that these cables are prone to.
Nope, Its just to dangerous
Jacob Power do you mean hot swapping cables using chimp is dangerous? What would you say is the best method to clone the hd
Jamie rose the xboxhdm.... but chimp is ok worst that can happen is it kills ur new hdd, but its not awful
Jacob Power thank you for your replies mate i appreciate it! I think by doing what you said with the electrical tape to make sure theres no contact to the hd from the board would be ok and not fry it! I will try the chimp method first! If frys the hd then so be it lol Its an old drive anyhow
I've got the same adapter, 1tb barracuda Seagate and now it comes up with an error 13 I just bought a 80wire so that will be here in a few days
CADBURY SSV strange, try another drive then use it for a pc?
Jacob i bought one with the black plastic power instead of white i having problem to upgrade my hdd could it be because of that?
Ari San yes likely
Okay, stoopid question. Why can't you use the IDE cable that's already in the unit? And, if the one that's in there isn't 80 wire, how in the heck does the 80 wire connect to the other components and mobo? Thanks!
because ide are no longer manufactured. also they don't make 1tb ide drives. biggest ide is usually 500gb or 750gb
i apologise. that was commented at 420 and i totally read that wrong hahaha...
The ide 80 is just faster otherwise it won't boot... it jas the same amount of holes and the plug is almost identical so it will fit just fine however they are usually short so they need to be folded it a stupid way

MrFuckin Whiting i know its been 7 months but were you able to fix this? Im running in to a fairly similar problem.
sorry for making everyone wait!! since i softmod i need to be able to lock the hard drive and the new seagate in the video doesn't lock.
ill try upload one today

+Jacob Power ok thanks
I put the video up finally a few months ago!!
TYVM
nice video, u could also use a low temperature hot glue gun instead of electrical tape
To Cover the joints? good ide
Yeah jus make sure its a low temperature glue gun, nothing too crazy hot.. but yeah I'm look forward too seeing more videos bro
+C Enloe already have more, check em out if you want. cheers man
nice video
thank you. i hope i helped
I used an old psu to power the second hdd
If i have a softmod Which hdd should I buy? because on the internet I can not find information about lock or not lock. can you recommend something good for me? for softmodded console? thank you very much
Valerio Tamburello most are fine. however Seagate doesn't lock anymore id say western digital blue is your safest bet

It might, it might not, its really hard to say because its a hit and miss and you won't know untill you try
I bought the SATA adapter and 80 pin IDE cable from the video, and I am having issues getting Chimp to detect the SATA drive. I set the jumper on the adapter to the slave setting. can someone confirm that is what the adapter should be set to? I've tried repeatedly with no success.
yes but remember the retail, disk must be master not cable select
Hello, nice video
.
I have mod xbox, alladin xt evo, and I added 250 sata hdd with the adapter works but I can not create a partition G, the partition is visible but has 0 mb ???
I not changed "80 wire" or it may be the reason ??
yeah i think to make a partion g the drive needs to be like 500gb or larger i think
are you using XB partitionor?
just tsoped and when I flashed the bios there was 2 version one for f&g and one just for F, I think F is around 140gb and g takes the rest, there is also a setting in the dashboard to enable F/G if its setup.
oh okay yes, is it all working now?
I tried it with two different SSDs, different brands and sizes, and hthey both required pressing the eject on the DVD before EvoX would start.
interesting, try unlesah x? and you're using a 80wire ide and not the stock right??
well that's weired ive just pluged it into my chipped alladin xbox and its working but only shows up as 131gb not 320.strange.
oh awesome. thats normal just get xbpartinor to extend the f partion
sorted it,thanks for your help.its weired how it only worked on 1 of 3 xboxs I tried it on though.anyway cheers.
Strange. Yeah sweet cheers :)
sorry it doesn't work, ive got 2 of them same adaptors, ive built 320gb seagate hdd with xbhdm.but when I fit it into my chipped xbox,it just gives error 9.any info would be very much appreciated.ps,the adaptor is on master.
awesome. uhhh thats interesting... you're using a 80 wire ide cable Yeah??
uhh not sure, its the one that was already in there, does it really make much difference then
ill have to have a look for one.ill let you no the outcome.
+jason dowsett then you have a 40 wire cable which is the stock. its inportant you use an 80wire because it's faster and will give the xbox more time to read the drive on boot
just tried with a 80 no joy still getting error 09
is there a certain model hard drive you have to use?
Not really. i usually use seagate but the newer model like in the video i had issues with especially in chimp
cool thanks for the info!
hope i could help
xbox on fire? EXTINGUISH ALL THE FIRES.
I blew it out. works fine lol. no dvd drive tho
